[SOLVED] Gnome 3.8: Unable to use Nokia N9 as a Bluetooth modem

Hi,
I'm unable to use my Nokia N9 mobile phone as a bluetooth modem. Phone and Gnome get paired OK, and I have even managed to get my phone recognized as a modem. However, Networkmanager complains that it can't find the modem.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • Using nokia mobile phone as a modem problem

I want to link up two computer (running XP) throughh two modems.
First, I set a PC that use 56k dailup modem as become a server (accept incoming connection), then connected by a PC that use nokia 6230 modem as a client and success. The 56k dailup can receive the call automatically and each PC can access the local area network to another.
However, it has a problem when i try to use 56k modem to connect to 6230. it seems 6230 treat the call as a voice call and not answer to it and I must set 6230 as a server in my place.
Then, i replaced the 56k dailup modem by a nokia 6610i and installed the lastest driver. However, the 6610i cannot dailup or receive call from 6230 except a voice call.
Finally, i try to borrow another 6230 from my friend (two 6230) and all works fine.
    My question is:
    1. How can I set 6230 modem as a server to accept connection from 56k dailup modem automatically?
    or
    2. How can I make connection between 6230 and 6610i (they work as modems)?
    or
    3. What fuctions can make 6230 to connect to a 56k modem? (is it fax??coz i want to make sure another model i buy has this function)
    Thanks
    Derek

    Thank you Seraphim.
I think you are right because i just borrowed another 6230i from my friend. Now i have 6230 and 6230i, the ringing tone of the server (receive side) is different to a vice call and the connection between two computers is success.
I'm sorry if I may have made a wrong post here because i still have a problem in configing my 6610i as a modem in my windows. I have tried the "nokia 6610i Cable" and "nokia 6610i Infrared" Modem driver. I cannot dailup a call or receive data call. I saw the 6610i was trying to call out but all the calls returned "Disconnected" and even my home phone cannot be rang.
All of the cases I have tried are (the mobile phone worked as modem):
6230i call to 6230 (result: connection success)
6230 call to 6230i (result: connection success)
6230 call to Voice Phone (result: normal ring)
6610i call to Voice Phone (result: no ring, disconnected)
6610i call to 6230 (result: no ring, disconnected)
6230 call to 6610i (result: no ring, disconnected)
I have tried to set the 6610i in different windows (xp and 2000) but still fail and i also tried to replace the sim. card in 6610i by the one in 6230 but still fail....so the one i could guess is my nokia 6610i modem driver has some problems but i'm using the one that i just download today 26/03/2004, 1.0.2.4.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Well i have a pc which doesnt have wifi and well is there any way i could use nokia e65 (via usb) since my pc doesnt have wifi/bluetooth etc
To be able to view the wifi connections using my pc ? sorta like a wifi emulator

It can't be done, unfortunately. An Nseries or Eseries phone cannot be used as a WiFi adapter connected to a USB port.
Unless I've misunderstood what you want...
You can use it as a straightforward modem connected by USB cable. For this, make sure you have a data plan with your mobile operator (occasional packet data usage with no data plan can be expensive) and install PC Suite. This allows you to access the Internet on your computer through the phone's GPRS, EDGE, 3G or HSDPA connection depending on your phone's capabilities and network coverage in your area.
Real WiFi USB dongles are inexpensive. You might want to look into that anyway.

  • Nokia 3G phone supporting bluetooth modem

I'm looking to get a Nokia phone that can act as a Bluetooth modem in Linux (from what I can see if it can act like a Bluetooth modem at all it should just work). What models support this? What spec should I look out for?
    Thanks

I don't use Linux so I can only give you half an answer.
However Nokia do not make drivers for Linux.
I use my handsets with Windows and for that application you really need to be looking for one that has HSDPA - High Speed Downlink Packet Access. This allows speeds ranging from 1.8mbps to 7.2mbps depending on your carrier networks capability.
You'll also need to be connected to a network that supports HSDPA.
The Nokia N95, N95 8Gb, N82, and 6220 Classic, and a few other handsets support HSDPA.
    Shunts...
I will mostly be communicating with a Nokia E72 Zodium Black
Nokia E72-1 with Vr 051.018.207.04 Software
If this post helped... Add some kudos!!

  • Using LG CU320 as a Bluetooth Modem

I was able to connect my LG CU320 Cingular Phone as a bluetooth modem and verified a 217 kilobits per second connection.
I got some of this information from http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=874483.
Click on the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar and choose setup bluetooth device.
    Choose Mobile phone.
You'll have to make sure you phone is "visible" from the bluetooth menu (may have that wrong, not sure how LG does it yet)
Follow the instructions from your mac's bluetooth assistant
Choose use Address book (if you want, don't know how that works yet) and as connection for internet.
For settings choose high speed direct connection.
    for string (or number): 99**1#
    for username: [email protected]
    for password: CINGULAR1
all is case sensitive (that means use capital letters).
I know it seems weird but choose Sprint PCS Vision as the modem script. This is because the new 3G on Cingular is based on similar Sprint PCS Vision.
Open up Internet connect from the Applications folder, click on Bluetooth and choose connect. This should work. Others are welcome to add their two cents.

Are you in a UMTS area? I tried the same thing with my CU320.. Same settings and it starts to connect then immediatly disconnects.. I see the phone say "Connecting" then almost immediatly it says "Disconnecting".. My powerbook then says something about the modem disconnecting unexpectly and to try again.. I wonder if the dialing script is wrong, or if I am missing something else.. I am in a EDGE only area, so I wonder if it has to do with that and when UMTS launches here in a few months if that problem will go away?

  • [Solved]Gnome : libgnomevfs-WARNING**: Unable to create ~/.gnome2

    Hello everybody!
    I've a very strange problem
When I want to open an application as a root it doesn't work.
For example when I try to edit a file with Gedit by using this command :
    sudo gedit /etc/udev/rules.d/00-myrules.rules
(yes I know that editing a root file with Gedit is the evil ^^), the terminal says :
libgnomevfs-WARNING **: Unable to create ~/.gnome2 directory: Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type
Impossible de créer un répertoire de configuration GNOME par utilisateur « /home/root/.gnome2/ » : Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type
That's very annoying, can someone help me please ?
    Thank you

solved the problem by editing the file /etc/passwd.
root's file was located at /home/root instead of /root

    1) How do I set it up to act as a modem with the cable plugged in to my PC?
    2) BT: I can pair it to the PC, but not see it in filemanager as I can when the cable is on.
With other phones of mine it has always been possible to use as BT modem, in case I forgot the cable at home.
    Is that possible with 5s?
    If so, How?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Nokia E70 as bluetooth modem

Is it possible to use a nokia E70 as a bluetooth modem, will the bluetooth setup assistant identift the phone. I found some nokia 3G phone modem scripts that should work aand I know the settings to use but I am not sure if it will find the phone.

Once your phone is paired correctly with your mac and during the setup you selected to use the phone with a high speed internet service then the only other thing you need to install is a nokia 3G modem script.
You can get those from ross barkman's homepage
Read the manual that comes with the nokia scripts.
I found some nokia 3G phone modem scripts that should work aand I know the settings to use but I am not sure if it will find the phone.
If your not sure why don't you try it.

I called att twice they tell me its movalstar that has this code.
movalstar says its att that has the code.
straight talks knows nothing , this account is reactive now also.
my question is . What is the solution to this problem?
I need a damn code. Who can help with this issue?

  • [SOLVED] Unable to use DRI due to DRM problem

    HI.
I have a Sony Vaio laptop with an ATI video card, and I'm using the opensource ATI video drivers.
The problem is that I'm unable to use DRI. I think it's because there's no DRM module loaded.
    How can I fix that?
    This info may be relevant:

    Hi signor_rossi.
The 'drm' module was not loaded because I didn't include the 'radeon' module in my rc.conf file
I added 'radeon' to my modules and restarted, which led to another problem. To solve this new problem, I had to declare some additional modules before the radeon module, like this:
    ati_agp agpgart radeon radeonfb
(It seems that the 'ati_agp' and 'agpgart' modules must be loaded before the 'radeon' module)
I added the 'radeonfb' module just in case, but I'm not sure if I'll need it.
With this configuration in place, DRI is finally enabled, but now the screen is completely black
I started the X server with:
    startx 2>startx.log
After the screen went all black, I killed X (by typing <ctrl>+<alt>+<backspace>) and typed 'reboot' in order to get a visible screen again.
This is the last part of 'startx.log':
    Save TV timing tables

    disable montype: 2

You can take a look at the Xorg.0.log file here: http://pastebin.ca/935744
In order to avoid the black screen, I have to disable DRI in my xorg.conf file...
    Any idea is welcome.
    Thanks.

  • [SOLVED] Unable to use GUI applications on any WM I tried except TWM

I'm using Arch Linux at my work despite it's very risky because something may go wrong pretty often (rolling distro, latest packages, DIY for newbs like me etc.). Unfortunately, this is one of those times...
I was using Xmonad. It all started w/ Chromium crashing a lot. I had a discussion about it here, but nobody found a solution. Chromium just got frozen and I could only kill it manually. Then I switched to Google Chrome and it get a little better. Today it was so bad that I couldn't do my daily work, so I switched to Opera; then Firefox... the same! After that I discovered that it happens w/ any GUI application. Good thing I'm using terminals for almost anything else I do. Anyway, I need GUI browser! So I thought that it may be something related to Xmonad itself. That's why I installed Xfce4 and... ...the same - GUI crashes. It's even worse actually because Xfce4 has a lot more GUI elements than Xmonad.
Now I'm writing from TWM and it has crashed only twice in two hours. What should I do? I really have no idea what could broke the things here. I really need help, guys!
Ohh, back home I have PC w/ almost the same conf -- everything works. Driver problems?
P.S. Title says "wrong focus" because sometimes application just freezes, sometimes it loses focus and I'm unable to use it... weird stuff.
    P.S.S. Changed title.

So, as I understand it.... Haskell somehow conflicted w/ X11 when I did system upgrade.
    Quick solution was to:
    1. Remove Xmonad (xmonad, xmonad-contrib),
    2. Try to remove Haskell (ghc),
    3. Remove all needed packages that disallows to remove Haskell,
    4. Remove Haskell,
    5. Check that system still works (I tried to do things w/ TWM and system upgrade),
    6. Put on any WM (I'm now using Awesome, but you can try to reinstall Xmonad as well (just follow all logs and stuff)).
Also, this fixed problem /w browser crashing.
P.S. Maybe this is just temporary solution, but for last 30 mins everything works /w problems.

  • [Solved] Gnome-shell text turned to rectangles after botched upgrade

    Hi all,
I've run into a problem that I just can't solve, so I was wondering if somebody with a lot of expertise could help out. My system has a couple of stability issues; it freezes up every few days, and I have to make a hard reboot (I think it's related to the video card, but I haven't had the funds to go get a better one yet). The last time it froze was during a pacman upgrade, and I had to reboot. At the new boot, after logging in, all of the gnome-shell letters turned to rectangles (see screenshot), and I had a bunch of other errors. I ran another upgrade Sync with pacman and rebooted; that took care of the errors, but the font problems still remained. The interesting thing is that the gdm window has no problems, I can see the icons on the top right just fine, and the date renders perfectly. It's only when I log in when the blocks occur, and they only occur on gnome-shell panel text (and on everything under Activities).
I have a 32-bit system that's fully migrated to systemd with open source radeon drivers. Here's some output of journalctl for the current boot, with stuff unrelated to the gnome-shell display removed (e.g. NetworkManager, UFW, etc). However, I didn't find any new errors compared to logs from before the upgrade.

I tried using gnome-tweak tool to fiddle around with the fonts, but that didn't help, none of the fonts would render correctly. Cantarell, which I'm assuming is the gnome-shell font, is still in /etc/fonts/conf.avail, so I don't think that the font file itself went missing. I made the fontconfig update a while ago, and that didn't cause any problems.
I also heard that there were problems with xorg-server, so I downgraded xorg-server, pixman, and cairo to their previous versions, but that didn't help either. EDIT: I've also done a pacman -Syyf gnome-shell to try and reinstall gnome-shell. That also didn't work.
I've run out of things to try. If someone else was more familiar with the workings of gnome-shell fonts, or had a better idea of how to debug, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.
UPDATE: I found that /etc/fonts/conf.avail/31-cantarell.conf existed, but was empty. After doing a pacman -Syyf cantarell-fonts, they went right back to normal!

    Problem disappeared.
I'm not sure, but i think installing xf86-video-modesetting helped to fix this issue.
I had an error messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log like this:
(EE) Failed to load module "modesetting" (module does not exist, 0)
