[Solved]Gnome Development releases on AUR

Hello Arch users!
I have an idea: I want to provide development tree (now it's 3.1) of GNOME in AUR. I have some questions to Arch Developers and TU:
First: GNOME is a pack of software that is a depedency of lots of packages. Is it possible to create in AUR packages with the same names as in [extra]?
Without it, my idea is not possible to realize.
Two: I don't want to duplicate other projects. Is there anything (I don't know about it) similar to my idea?
Three: It's a question for Arch user: are you interested of using and testing GNOME unstable? (It's a lot of work and I must be sure that it's a good idea)
At this time it's all I want to say.
I am waiting for replies.

No big deal, I'm glad you asked first instead potentially wasting many hours :-)
Of course. It would be stupid.
EDIT: Thank you wonder. It was my greatest problem: I had not any "serious" packages to build in AUR. Now, I will create my own unofficial repo and put packages into it.
I'm programmer, but i must gain more packaging experience to build anything more "official"

  • Oracle SQL Developer Release 1.5.5 "compile for debug"

Using Oracle SQL Developer Release 1.5.5 on Windows XP pro machine connecting to 9.2.0.4 database on AIX machine.
Trying to debug a procedure, in the navigator window, I rt-clk the procedure and select "Compile for Debug", then nothing happens. This happens for every procedure I've tried. I've been granted both DEBUG ANY PROCEDURE and DEBUG CONNECT SESSION. Any ideas?

This is the first I've used SQL Developer, so I'll take the blame. I had not noticed that the Messages Log does in fact tell me that the proc compiled. However, the debug icon (little red bug) was nowhere to be found.
I see now that I need to Edit, not Open, the proc in order to debug. If I had read the Help screens a little more closely, I would have seen that I needed to be in Edit mode. My bad. Thanx to all for your responses.

  • JSP demo PTS included with Oracle 9i Developer Release for Mac not working

Hello all, please pardon my ignorance, but I am an Oracle DBA not a JSP programmer.
I have installed Oracle 9i developer release for Mac OSX and it included a demo application in JSP called pts.
I followed all the instruction and it still doesn't seem to work.
When I try to login to the application I get the following exception:
    exception
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
An error occurred at line: 3 in the jsp file: /oradev/pts/solmktinit.inc
    Generated servlet error:

    [javac] symbol : class DBAccess
    [javac] location: package pts
    [javac] import oradev.pts.DBAccess;
I'm not sure what this means or how to fix it. I'm sure it's something simple like modifying my classpath or something, but, as I said, I don't know where to begin.
Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can't you just use the 10g client ?
I have not tested the 9i dev. with oci calls but I would not be surprised if you try this on tiger. That won't work AFAIK.

  • SOLVED: SQL Developer Code Compilation with warnings

Hi, I think I found one bug in sql developer.
I have one pl/sql package, that contains a lot of code. In the previous SQL Developer releases (prior to 1.2) when you compile the code, first appears the errors and then the warnings. Because of some type conversion in my sql statements i have more than 20 warnings, and now i cannot see the errors (i think that they will appear if i'm able to increase this "20 messages" limit). I was searching for some option in SQL Developer to increase the number of displayed warnings or errors (or turn off the warnings) but i cannot find such parameter.
Is this a bug, or i'm missing something ?
PS: because of this, i'm not able to compile my package with sql developer, and i'm compiling via sqlplus.
    null

Yes, you're missing something: the forum's search feature.
    See:
compile with many warnings causes compiler dont show errors correctly
Compiling an invalid packagebody without errormessage
SQL Developer says Compile sucessful but it is not

  • Crystal Reports XI Developer Release 2

What is the upgrade method of going from Crystal Reports XI Developer to Crystal Reports XI Developer Release 2.
I've seen mention on other forums and help-desk websites that it is a free upgrade for a registered user of Crystal Reports XI Developer. However, I can't how this is done.

    Hello,
There are a number of ways to get the physical download.  Here's one that's pretty easy. Go to the [Downloads page |http://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm]for Crystal Reports and set the search criteria for service packs for Crystal Reports XI R2.
    Software Product: Crystal Reports
    Product Version: XI Release 2
    Software Type: Service Pack
You'll see a number of downloads.  Download one of the Full Build packages like "Crystal Reports XI Release 2 - Service Pack 4 Full Build".
After downloading CR XI R2 you should uninstall CR XI and then install CR XI R2.  CR XI R2 is not really an upgrade to CR XI.  It is it's own stand alone version.
You'll sometimes see issues in Crystal Reports if you don't fully remove CR XI by following manual cleaning steps.  You may need to do the following from SAP Note 1218535 - How to manually uninstall Crystal Reports XI:
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Symptom
Crystal Reports XI is installed on your computer. You need to manually uninstall Crystal Reports XI for one of the following reasons:
To verify that all Crystal Reports XI components have been completely removed prior to installing a later version of Crystal Reports.
To remove the remaining Crystal Reports XI components that have not been removed using the 'Add/Remove Programs' command (Start > Settings > Control Panel).
To remove the remaining Crystal Reports XI components that have not been removed using the Setup.exe file from Crystal Reports XI installation CD.
    Resolution
Before getting started, uninstall Crystal Reports XI by launching the Setup.exe file from the installation CD or by using the 'Add/Remove Programs' command. If either of these methods fails to remove all Crystal Reports directories, files and registry keys, then continue with the resolution of this article.
WARNING: This resolution can be applied if Crystal Reports XI is the only software installed on the computer that uses the Business Objects directories, files and registry keys.
For example, Crystal Analysis, Crystal Enterprise and BusinessObjects Enterprise XI are applications that may share the same directories, files and registry keys. Removing these directories, files and registry keys may cause other software to function incorrectly.
    1. To manually uninstall Crystal Reports XI, delete the following directories:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0
    C:\Program Files\Business Objects
NOTE: Do not remove the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0 if you have BusinessObjects Enterprise XI or Crystal Reports Server XI installed. These files are shared by both applications and removal of these files will cause Business ObjectsEnterprise XI and Crystal Reports Server XI to function incorrectly.
WARNING: The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall the Microsoft Windows operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.
HELP: For information on how to edit the registry key, view the 'Changing Keys And Values' online Help topic in the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
RECOMMENDATION: It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat on Win9x computers) before you edit the registry.
    2. Delete the following registry keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports
    HKEY_USERS\S-#-#-##-...-####\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports
The number signs (#) represent a series of numbers that are different on each computer.
After making changes to the registry, restart the affected service or application as required.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Sincerely,
    Dan Kelleher

  • Oracle 10g developer release

    Hello:
While runnning the createdb.sql with the oracle 10g developer release for AMD64, on the instruction
    startup nomount
    the following error is thrown:
    SQL> startup nomount;
ORA-02778: Name given for the log directory is invalid
How to check what is the name given to the log directory and how to fix it.
    Thanks,

    Thanks for your reply.
Thanks for the help from one of the forum handle : dba I got it resolved.
Somehow in the developer release for windows 2003 server, the logs directory are not created. So the solution is after extracting the zip file, I ahd to create 2 directories:
    1. directory log under %ORACLE_HOME%\network
    2. directory trace under %ORACLE_HOME%\rdbms
Then the database creation went fine.
But now when I login to the sqlplus, getting some user profile not found. Run pupbld.sql.
    Regards.

  • Distributing app while in 'hold for developer release'?

I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that when a new app reaches 'hold for developer release' status, you have access to your promo codes even though the app is not technically available for sale.
My question is:  if your app is free, is there a direct link you can use to distribute the app to a set of users before you mark it 'ready for sale', or are you strictly limited to the promo codes.  I realize test flight is an option for distribution as well but I'm trying to determine what other options might be available before the app is 'ready for sale'.
    Thanks for your help!

Your iTunes Connect account is tied to one bank account that receives all the proceeds. What you do with the money after that is your own problem. You also have to call Apple to get that account changed. I haven't been paid yet, but I'm guessing they deposit in one lump sum for all apps you've published, which could be a problem if you have several apps with different contributors; however, the iTunes financial reports should give you enough information so that you can split it.
If you don't want to open your personal account's statements up to examination by your partners, I'd suggest you open a new account for your iPhone apps and give that to iTunes. That way you can include bank statements and iTunes reports with your checks so they can see that you're not cheating them.

  • With Mountain Lion Developer release, and most likely the finished release having all updates via the App store, how does ARD fit into the picture?

The following question is based on what I have seen in some early reports of the Developer version of Mountain Lion.
Since the Developer Release of Mountain Lion, and the final version also I expect, having all updates being installed via the App Store by the user, how is a administrator to keep hundreds of systems current with all updates?  The App Store requires, at least in its current version, a user to log in with their Apple Account ID and password even to do no cost updates.  In an Enterprise operation I expect a number, maybe the majority of users will just not bother to do the updates.
Is there some way to use ARD to handle keeping Mountain Lion systems fully updated from an ARD Admin system?  Is there a backdoor for updating systems?

No one is going to be able to discuss how ARD might work with Mountain Lion since anyone running an ML system is under nondisclosure and cannot discuss it publicly. All anyone here can talk about is how ARD can (or cannot, as the case may be) be used to keep Lion systems updated.
At this point I don't see any easy option in ARD to run Mac App Store updates, but it might be possible to script that, though whether that could run in background, as OS updates can, or on a system without a user logged in I don't know. Someone else here may be able to offer insight. For enterprise-level management I think most people have more-or-less given up on ARD as their primary tool, though, and moved to one of the third-party solutions.
    Regards.

  • [SOLVED] GNOME 3.8 annoying window resize problem

    Hello all fellow early-adopters :-)
A very annoying quirk I've noticed, moving from GNOME 3.6 to 3.8, is that it no longer remembers, nor retains, the size/positions I set for many of my application windows. For example, my mail client (Evolution) is sized to fill most of my screen (centrally), with Empathy and Skype as long narrow windows on both sides - giving me a nice, broad "communications" overview on that particular desktop (with dev tools etc open on others).
On 3.6, this layout was retained during my session, as well as next time I started these apps up.
In GNOME 3.8, not only does it insist that these windows are always started as small little bunched-up windows that I need to resize, but every time a window displays a notification/warning (message in internal yellow bar inside the window - such as loss of internet connection, mail retrieval failure etc) it resizes the windows spontaneously to a stupid, small size that overlays the other windows. This is driving me crazy!
Where can I learn a bit more about how window sizing / positioning works in GNOME 3.8, or is it finally time to switch to awesome wm? I want to love GNOME 3.8, I really do. It's so slick, but so... unpolished.
I want to dig in an assist with problems like these, but I need some pointers to some background material first to understand the problem. Is it the window manager? Is it the app?
** UPDATE: Doing a full system upgrade, as of May 18, 2013, has resolved this annoying problem. My windows now stay where they belong, and start with the same size they were closed with. GNOME is now pleasant to use again :-)

I really like GNOME 3.x though (and would like to understand the windowing behaviour), but if the annoying quirks are insurmountable, I will happily switch.
Man I love GNOME 3.x. I admire the courage they had to change, basically, everything, and I find myself more productive with my GNOME 3 Arch box than with my good ol' Slackware KDE 4 box. I just hate those bugs - for example I filed a task in their bugtracker for this window resize problem I have with gedit. If it's a love/hate relationship, I think it's marriage ^_^
With the 3.8 upgrade, deadbeef was having a similar problem with window size/position. I just recompiled it against the latest GTK+3 package upgrade (that came after the 'big upgrade' here on Arch) and it was fixed. But not with gedit
    bwat47 wrote:
Man I really hope this gets fixed soon, because aside from this one incredibly annoying issue I am loving gnome 3.8.
I get the feeling gnome badly needs more beta testers, sizable regressions like this in "stable" releases happen way too often sad.
I get the exact same feeling. Well bugs exist everywhere, there's no denying. But I think it would be wiser to 'alternate' the nature of each major stable release - one focusing on new features and one focusing on fixing bugs. For example if the only new features in GNOME 3.10 were the AppsFolder full implementation and the introduction of gnome-calendar, and the rest of the development cicle being devoted to fix bugs, I'd be more than happy.
Like Fedora and Ubuntu, the fixed 6-month release cycle colaborates with the bugs. They don't do like Debian or Slackware which are released 'when they are ready'.
EDIT: fout (yet) another bug. At least with facebook chat (haven't tested with other telepathy plugins) the buddy tray icon appear duplicate. Anybody with the same issue?

  • [SOLVED] Gnome 3.8 apps crash with X Window System Error

So far this applications are affected:
    - gnome-terminal (when clicking on menu)
    - gnome-control-center (when choosing Users or Date & Time and some other tiles, choosing account in GOA)
    - epiphany (when clicking on new tab button)
They crash with following error in console:
    (gnome-control-center:12717): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'gnome-control-center' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadImplementation (server does not implement operation)'.
    (Details: serial 3583 error_code 17 request_code 148 minor_code 46)
    (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

My graphic card (iI guess this has something to do with xorg):
AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4550 (using catalyst legacy driver 13.1 with Xorg 1.12)
Last edited by szorti (2013-04-24 08:40:26)

    I did a little test:
    - upgraded to xorg 1.14
    - switched from catalyst to xf86-video-ati drive
Most of the errors dissappeared (GOA still crashes).
But now i can only see message tray using keyboard shortcut (super + m). I read that I need to move my mouse fast to the botton edge of my screen - does not work - instead it show up randomly when i moved mouse near the bottom edge.
I don't want to use the open source drivers (slow and laggy with multi monitor setup I'm using). I hope gnome devs will fix this bugs soon.
    SOLUTION (to still use catalyst):
I found out that this is an Xorg 1.12 bug.
    Bug: http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2012/12/msg00133.html
To solve this use patch from this bugreport to compile xorg 1.12
    I used this aur packages:
    1. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xf86 … evdev1.12/
    2. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xorg-server1.12/ - I have edited PKGBUILD to include patch from bug report above

  • [Solved] Gnome 3 goes into fallback mode after graphics card upgrade

    Hello,
I have been using Arch with an AMD Radeon HD 4670 and open source drivers for the past couple of months together with Cinnamon, everything was working well. Recently I have upgraded to an AMD Radeon HD7750 which is not supported by the open source drivers, I have removed the open source drivers and installed the catalyst-total package from the AUR. After doing so Cinnamon failed to start and gave me an error, I have decided to try Gnome 3 and it just goes into fall back mode which I assume Cinnamon cannot work with.
XFCE however works. There is one small issue with it though, the left and right borders of windows are missing (borders of context menus are missing too). Other than that it seems fine however.
What is the problem? Is Gnome 3 support for Catalyst just simply very bad? or have I installed something incorrectly?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
EDIT: Catalyst 12.9 recently came out and a corresponding catalyst-total package was released, intially it broke my X install but after re-running aticonfig --initial it worked fine. I have uncovered an option in the Catalayst Control Centre which lets me use two screens without Xinerama, doing the following: Display Manager -> Multi-display -> Multi-display desktop with display(s) 1, allows me to use compositing and my two screens, and I am still able to drag windows between the screens. After I have saved these new settings I have reloaded Cinnamon and it worked perfectly.

It would seem i solved it myself.
First of all, gnome-volume-manager need to be recompiled with a patch i found (ubuntu gutsy); http://patches.ubuntu.com/by-release/ex … hint.patch
Why this isn't included by default in gnome-volume-manager is beyond me!? You bad, bad, gnome devs!
