[solved] Gnome/GTK icons missing

Hey,
yet another icon missing topic, but I didn't find anything similar to my problem in this forum.
http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/3432 … gicon1.png
http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/4341 … gicon2.png
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/7168 … gicon3.png
As you can see, icons are missing not only in the gnome menu, but also
in firefox (gtk app). Therefore, I think the problem is more related to GTK?!
Yes, I tried serveral icon themes and engines, no success.
1. Anyone out there who got the same problem?
Because laptop and desktop have the same issue.
2. Any further information about this issue?
3. Any suggestions/advices?
Thanks in advance,
Max

I dug up an old applet I had written for Cinnamon (based on another applet by Tjaart van der Walt), and upgraded it to work with Gnome 3.12
For some reason, I am not able to submit it to the AUR.
^^Mods: please help if possible - I keep getting a "Invalid name: only lowercase letters are allowed". error when I am trying to submit the tarball linked below.
download link to the tarball, in case anyone wants to use it: https://app.box.com/s/d9wsu6u8jkcknl0r4z6x

  • Gnome applet Icons Missing

I installed a fresh arch linux on another pc.  I installed gnome and gnome-extras. There is one problem:
The icons on the "system tray" are missing. The applets are there but the icons are not shown:
I already rebuilt the hicolor and gnome icons (and re-logged) with no result. Am I missing something?

Ok here is something weird I found out.
I am using xorg without xorg.conf. Since I have a Voodoo3 card I installed the xf86-video-tdfx driver. After a xorg restart the icons are working but the mouse flickers when I move it and there are graphic bugs when restoring windows.
So I removed the tdfx driver and reverted to the vesa driver. The mouse does not flicker anymore but the applet icons are gone.

  • GNOME menu icons missing?

How come in ArchLinux those are missing? Was it Debian that spiced up the GNOME or was it ArchLinux that does something differently from upstream GNOME configuration?

  • [SOLVED] GNOME + play icon has changed

After the latest gnome updates (gnome-icon-theme 3.2.1-1), i noticed my play button (in my uber-cool Goggles Music Manager) looked funny. The  play icon (shaped like an arrow) used to always point to the right, it now has changed directions and points to the left instead. You can see for yourself:

  • [Solved] Gnome 3 Shell - Icons Missing After Update

After my last update session, some icons went missing in Gnome. Even more unsettling, only some are missing. From what I can tell, my application icons haven't gone anywhere, but things such as minimize, restore, close, etc. are 404. Here's a photo to explain: https://vps.nullh.net/uploads/gnome-icon-issue.png I also noticed nvidia is included in the last update. I searched the forums, but all of the other problems seemed to be different problems (e.g. application icons were all bunched up/missing, desktop icons "missing", etc.) I feel like I should probably have more icons in the folders, too, but I haven't looked in there before the problem to be sure. Also, Alt+F2 "r" doesn't make a difference, the shell reloads but the icons are still AWOL. If anyone has any ideas, I am all ears.

  • [SOLVED]Gnome 3.10 Icons are broken

I upgraded earlier to Gnome 3.10. Although I've had a lot of problems.. I'm working on them one at a time.
Most of the default icons are not showing anymore. My Nautilus looks like this:
Some of the applications icons do still exist.
If I create a new user and log in, the icons are all fine. But I cannot figure out how to bring back icons on my own user account.
I tried running the command on http://askubuntu.com/questions/56313/ho … e-defaults, which set my favourites and wallpaper back to default. Icons still aren't fixed.
I tried running gtk-update-icon-cache on my icons folder. Tried running xdg-user-dirs-update. Tried sudo pacman -S $(pacman -Ssq gnome-icon-theme). Tried running /usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders --update-cache and tried reinstalling librsvg. None of these have helped.
    Thanks.

Not solved for me I'm afraid. I'm running Openbox + Tint2 setup, with quite a few Gnome applications. I use the Oxygen icon theme.
Since the upgrade to the Gnome 3.10 packages, my GTK3 applications have missing icons which only reappear if I choose the GNOME icon theme using lxappearance, which modifies ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini. Here's my normal settings.ini:
    [Settings]
    gtk-theme-name=Clearlooks-Phenix
    gtk-icon-theme-name=oxygen
    gtk-font-name=Arimo 9
    gtk-cursor-theme-name=aero-drop
    gtk-cursor-theme-size=0
    gtk-toolbar-style=GTK_TOOLBAR_BOTH_HORIZ
    gtk-toolbar-icon-size=GTK_ICON_SIZE_MENU
    gtk-button-images=1
    gtk-menu-images=1
    gtk-enable-event-sounds=1
    gtk-enable-input-feedback-sounds=1
    gtk-xft-antialias=1
    gtk-xft-hinting=1
    gtk-xft-hintstyle=hintfull
    gtk-xft-rgba=rgb
When 'gtk-icon-theme-name=gnome' is used instead, the icons display in GTK3 applications.
Any ideas please how I can get the Oxygen theme to play nicely with Gnome 3.10 applications?

  • [Solved] Evolution Icons MIssing after upgrade

After upgrading evolution all icons except print and canceled disappeared.
    file needed
    ~/.gtkrc-2.0
    -----Start
    gtk-icon-theme-name = "gnome"
    -----End

I had to make this change to get my Evolution icons back:
    In file /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc, I changed:
    gtk-fallback-icon-theme = "hicolor"
    to
    gtk-fallback-icon-theme = "gnome"
Don't know why my case is different, except that I'm using KDEmod with just a couple of Gnome apps thrown in (Evolution, Tomboy, ...).

  • [SOLVED] gtk icons not working

To save my soul, I can't get my icons to change in Thunar. There is no icon set in there right now, so everything is displayed as just a piece of paper picture (folders, files, everything!).
    This is my /.gtkrc-2.0 file:
    # -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT
    include "/usr/share/themes/Foresight/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
    include "/home/bovis/.gtkrc-2.0.mine"
    gtk-icon-theme-name = "Hicolor"
    # -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT
I even have the gtk-icon... line included in .gtkrc-2.0.mine and it still will not change. I've tried several icon theme names and several themes. The themes all work fine, but even when the theme file specifies certain icons they do not show up in Thunar.
This is driving me insane. Please help. Thank you.

Well, I found a solution. I don't know how to delete this post (I don't see an option anywhere), so I'll post the solution for anyone else who comes across this problem.
If you go to this site it explains the common concern about the "fallback" icons showing up in Thunar.
    http://thunar.xfce.org/pwiki/documentation/faq
Basically, what I needed to do was install the package gnome-icon-theme, in addition to the hicolor theme, which I had already installed (I found both in the pacman repos). For some reason, both of those are needed in order to begin working with other icon themes. I hope this helps out anyone else who has this issue.

  • [SOLVED] Gnome 3.2 Document, Contacts and file preview Problems

Hi, I just enabled the testing the community testing repos today. I updated and I got a huge list of updates and pacman downloaded them. However while checking for file conflicts it said locale.sh was found in /etc/profile.d/ folder and hence it did not install anything. However, I moved the locale.sh folder to my home folder and then proceeded with the installation. It all went smooth. I restarted and was presented with the new login screen. • LabVIEW 2011 compiled application icon missing

Previously when I built an application the VI Icon would appear in the top right corner exactly the same in the compiled executable as it did in the VI.
Since upgrading to LabVIEW 2011SP1 all I get is a blank/question mark, icon missing indicator.
This happens for all of my compiled applications regardless of what icon I specify, even if I leave it as the default.
VI icon looks like this               Application icon looks like this.
Just to be extra clear, there is no problem with how the exe icon appears in windows explorer and shortcuts.
I am ONLY talking about how the front panel icon in the top right corner appears.
The application works, it just looks ugly/unprofessional.
Is this a bug? Do I have something configured incorrectly? Is there a workaround? Has anyone else noticed this?

I tried building on another computer. It works properly.
My usual development machine is running Windows XP SP3.
The other computer I just tried a build on is running Windows 7 and that works fine.
I'm trying a repair of the XP installation now (I'll get back to you in a couple of hours!).
One other possible difference is that on the XP machine I installed the LabVIEW 2011 SP1 f1 patch.
Now I can't remember if I uninstalled it again afterwards. How can you tell if the patch has been applied or not?
I can't remember if I did it on the Windows 7 machine too???

  • GTK Icon Theme

I get this error when running switch:
    /home/aquafox/.gtkrc.mine:1: error: unexpected identifier `gtk-icon-theme-name', expected keyword - e.g. `style'
    This error running nitrogen:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Gtk::IconThemeError'
    Aborted
    This is my .gtkrc.mine file:
    gtk-icon-theme-name = "Tango"
Am I doing anything wrong? Or is the new gtk broken?

Hehe, whatever works. I suppose. I got that same nitrogen error before and installing gnome-icon-theme is what fixed it for me. Definitely a strange error.
