[SOLVED]Gnome: No network icon in the status bar

So fresh install and no networking icon in the status bar.
I also opened the network connections program and it didnt show any connections. I am using eth0 to write this.
This suggests to me that a daemon hasnt been started (but doesnt necessarily explain no icon in status bar)
here is the daemon section of my rc.conf
DAEMONS=(hwclock syslog-ng network netfs crond networkmanager dbus gdm)
i added network manager as a previous attempt (on advise of someone elsewhere on the internet(cannot remember where lol))
Thanks.. I have nearly got my system how I want it (minus software i havent installed yet)
Sorry if i have created a duplicate thread

Thanks to both of you.
I had already noticed the redundancy of network which was added in the install however hadnt considered the ordering

This is pretty much all i have seen people saying at the end of their posts on here. I agree with the point you have made, however i have been on the wiki all day, conisdering this is a newbie forum it is to be presumed that it is a pretty new installation. Therefore the user does not have time to read the entire wiki. As i said i have been on the wiki all day and used it countless times and have found it invaluable, so im only posting here when i am unable to find answers there.
That aside this is a wonderfully helpful community so HI

Prior to updating to iOs 6.3.1 my system worked perfectly.
    Can anybody help please.

Thanks for your quick response. I've tried everything you suggested and get only temporary fixes. Sometimes for a day or two, sometimes only until I use Safari for the first time. It's annoying and probably effects battery life between charges.
You would think that it must have some effect on the battery, but oddly enough, the update to iOS 8 actually helped my battery life, in spite of all of these hinky little issues that are taking place. In my experience, the activity icon is not affecting the battery in a negative way.
Another issue with IOS 8.1 that you may have seen is the loss of icon pictures on home pages. Again it seems to be Safari related, since app icons found in the App Store are not affected, only web based icons you personally put on home pages. I get what I call a test screen similar to what you used to get on old tv sets on every one of my personal icons.
I know exactly what you mean. I got that as well. On a few of them, when I opened the websites using the generic test screen icons and then closed them, they changed back to the way that they should look. For the ones that did not change, I recreated the home screen shortcuts and deleted the generic looking ones - the test screen icons.
And don't get me started on iBooks.
For the very limited use that I make of the iBooks app, i haven't noticed any problems, but I rarely use the app. I don't read books on the iPad other than a few user guides and if they are pdf guides, they reside in more reliable and feature rich pdf apps on my iOS device.
I wish that I had the fix for the spinning activity icon, but everything that I try, is temporary at best. IMO, this is the buggiest iOS update that I have seen, and I have been using iOS devices since iOS 3 on my first iPad. I realize that there are plenty of people that are not experiencing issues, but I have seen a number of weird things that I wish I could fix. None of my problems are major, but they are annoying.

    Siri is wroking fine

I am experiencing exactly the same problem, today, and a reset, of all settings, did nothing to correct it.  Any suggestions would be welcome.  While dictation in all apps is out, Siri is working fine also.

The icon you see is indicating that a handsfree is connected to the phone. If you have not connected a handsfree and still get this icon I suggest that you update the phone software using the Update Service program. If you have not installed Update Service on your PC, you can download it from here.

  • Icon on the status bar

    Hello,
How can place an image on the status bar?
Also is possible to place it at any position on the status bar?
    -Kathik

It's like BullJ says, if it's a JLabel you sure can. A status bar is not a Swing feature, you would have to implement it your self (e.g. using a JLabel). So it all depends on the component you're using.

  • What's this new icon on the status bar?

Noticed this little icon for the first time after the Jelly Bean update. It's kind of sandwiched between the LTE icon and the signal strength bars.
    Anyone know what this is?

Seems to be the consensus around the interweb.  Thanks for the tip off.

  • HT1975 My location icon in the status bar never comes on even after trying everything. Location services are on but still cannot find my location in any app. :( HELP!

I've tried to turn my location services on and still cannot be located.

For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location. Thus, it appears that the iPod can't see a nearby router that is in Apple's database. Apple continuously updated their database based on info they obtain from iPhones. No one has been able to find a way to inform Apple of a router or correct is location.
You can confirm that by going to place with a know located router like Starbucks or McDonalds

  • Unknown icon on the status bar in OsX.

Anyone know what icon this is? I can't click it and can't find a way to remove it... no programs in the login items on my user account seems to have anything with it to do. The most curious thing is that nothing happens when i click (both left and right) on the icon.

That icon is for the Smart Panel software installed with a Samsung printer. ML-xxxx.
You should be able to find it in your login items in Preferences>accounts.
    Cheers
The item in the login list is SPanel.

    Hi all,
