[SOLVED] Gnome Only One Workspace in Switcher

Hi,
I just installed Gnome but the workspace switcher in the panel is only showing the current workspace. When I go into the preferences the option to show all the workspaces is greyed out. How can I fix this?
Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. I first tried relogging in but that didn't work, but I read that killing the panel works and it did. Strange that relogging in didn't have the same effect. Anyways, marking as solved.

  • Openbox in GNOME: Only one workspace

I start gnome with exec gnome-session in my .xinitrc and the fusion-icon in autostart. This allows me to switch between compiz, metacity and openbox but switching to openbox only gives me a single workspace, despite having set 6 in rc.xml and having four in metacity/compiz. Any ideas as how to fix this?

  • After booting only one workspace on my second monitor

I got a MAC PRO 5.1 with 2 screens connected.
Problem after rebooting yosemite, on my second screen only one workspace is left. All others are at the first screen.
I also can't tell applications to open at a specific screen. After reboot the screen information is lost.

In Mac OS X, if a screen disappears -- all the items on it are moved so that at least some part of each window is on another screen so that it is not "lost" on a screen that is off. This problem sounds similar. Perhaps for some reason, your Mac thinks a screen has disappeared, and your workspaces are moved.
If this is the case, I thought of some workarounds that may prevent that from happening:
    1) If you do not already use a "regular" user account (as opposed to an Admin account), I suggest you create a new Admin account, log in to it, and use it to demote your daily-use account to a regular account. Then cancel auto-login and endure the login screen. [You will also have to enter the Admin username and password when installing new software, but your Mac will be slightly more secure that way.]
This moves the creation of your workspaces away from the Startup sequence, and may mean the screens are stable by the time you log in and your workspaces will not be changed.
    2) reverse which screen is the primary screen, in hopes that it (and its workspaces) will be maintained instead of dropping out

  • Conky in only one workspace in awesome

Hello, just trying out awesome. I've got some rules defined in rc.lua to make some apps start with certain tags. I've managed to do this by using xprop, finding out WM_CLASS of the window and defining consequently the rule. However, I'm having problems with conky. No matter how I set own_window_type in .conkyrc [1], the conky window gets displayed on all tags/workspaces (still not sure what the correct terminlogy is in awesome). I've set the rc.lua rule such that it gets tagged with tag number 1, and in fact when I start it I see in the upper bar a little white square appear in the first tag (and only in that) - however the conky window is then present even in other tags.
any hints? using awesome 3.4.10-1 and conky 1.8.1-3

  • Assign more the one workspace to a developer account

I have run into a stumbling block in setting up my accounts for Apex that seem to conflict with the training class I just took
I want to assign more then one workspace to a developer.
On page 1-16 of the oracle class manual it indicates that you can assign more then one workspace to a developer. On page 1-16 it depicts user 'A' having access
    to Wkspc1 and Wkspc2.
However when I login as admin or the workspace admin and I click 'create' there does not appear to be a way to assign more then one workspace to the account.
It appears you need create the same account(e.g. dev01) under each workspace. That is you create the same account for each workspace and can give it the same password.
So you end up with more then one account with the same name assigned to each workspace. Create dev01 on wrkspc1 then create devo1 on workspc2 etc.
Is this correct? This doesn't seem right.

    Hello,
are given access to only one workspace at a timeCorrect
are created in Apex only(not db)Well Apex runs inside the DB...so yes the accounts are created in the DB, however they are only accessible (and meaningful) from within Apex. You can't login to the DB via SQLPlus using Workspace credentials for example.
can not use a db account to login as a developerCorrect
to access more then one workspace at time the account must be
    created seperately in each workspace.Correct
if the applications are db account authenticated ....Correct.
if the applications are apex account authenticated then a different user account...Correct
    Hope this helps,
    John.

  • [Solved] Gnome: Locking the screen only locks one of two monitors

    Hey guys,
I'm using Arch for quite a while and I am really happy with it. Today I faced a problem, which no one else seems to have. At least, I wasn't able to find any infos on the net:
When locking the screen, gnome only locks my primary monitor. I cannot only see the windows on my secondary screen, but also use them with the mouse (but not with the keyboard).
Does anyone have an idea, how to solve this or how to find out, what could cause the problem?
I'm using the current versions of Gnome and the nvidia drivers and only one graphics card with one dvi and one hdmi port.
I happily provide more infos, if needed.
    Thanks for any tips!

    Hi again,
there are to bug-reports (one at Arch's package, one upstream) for this issue, but no solution patch so far:
    https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/30547?project=1&cat[0]=2&string=gnome-screensaver
    https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=679441
Since this was introduced with the current version of gnome-screensaver and since this is a crucial feature (at least for me at work) I did the following to get it working again, until there is fix:
Download and install the previous version of gnome-screensaver (here: x86_64):
    wget "http://schlunix.org/archlinux/extra/os/x86_64/gnome-screensaver-3.4.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz"
    pacman -U gnome-screensaver-3.4.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
Prevent pacman from upgrading gnome-screensaver, with adding the following to /etc/pacman.conf:
    IgnorePkg = gnome-screensaver
When there is a fix, just remove "gnome-screensaver" from "IgnorePkg" and update your system as usual.

    Heres the show tacacs output from the switch where only one user account fails;

What could be the reason ?
No errors on ACS server; same rights had been given to the user account.
    Thanks to advise.
    Prasey

    Hi there,
Does the user get authenticated in the ACS logs?
    reports and activity----> failed attempts
    ro
    reports and activity----->  passed authentications
That will help narrow it down.

    Any ideas?
    [SOLVED]
I just doublechecked the BIOS settings and it had the CPU Core Control set to manual and one core was disabled. I set it to auto again and now both cores are recognized correctly. I don't recall ever touching this setting but at least it works now. Maybe a bios update actually changed the setting or (more probable) a friend of mine.

Sounds like you have a battry issue but don't want to believe it.
If a car was running fine on one tank of gas, then you filled it up with another tank of gas and it began to run funny, one might suspect that tank of gas. But let's just say coincidence blew a valve-- would you think the new tank of gas was the culprit?
BUT WAIT!! It just might have been! The gas could have been of higher octane and put more more strain on the valves; you know, like going from 87 octane (OS6) to 93 octane (OS7) and showing you the engine was on the edge of compromise.
Sometimes you have to go with common sense. If everything else is ruled out, it must be the battery. And if it runs fine one moment in OS6 but immediately ***** in OS7, I'd believe my battery was suspect-- though comfy-- in OS6 but the OS7 showed its true power.
Moreover, if you had the answer-- or didn't want to believe someone's more competent advice-- why did you even call?  You've already shown that you don't know much when you asked if you could go backwards after setting up the new OS as a new phone.
Additonally, if you're such the know-it-all, but yourself the $29 battery and put it in yourself. It's a piece of cake.

Can I switch between Illustrator and Photoshop? (I am subscribing to only one product per month)

Absolutely. Just change the sim card and the APN details in the settings. You can do this either manually if you know them or just sync with iTunes after changing the sim and the details will sync. Once you have done it once for each network the device seems to remember the details.

Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin. Sometimes it's necessary to uninstall then reinstall that plugin.
Uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed plugin first.
Now launch Safari and try a video.
If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
You may also need to delete the cache associated with Safari .
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Click Go the move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a video.

  • Conky on only one desktop/workspace. is it possible?

    Hi Everyone,
Just playing around with conky today. I am wondering if it is possible to have conky appear on only one of the desktops/workspaces. This is for openbox but don't think it would matter. I have four desktops/workspaces and only want it on desktop1. I can't seem to find a definitive answer.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    http://conky.sourceforge.net/config_settings.html
    look at the option "own_window_type"
Also, have a look at the rc.conf of openbox. Everything you need should allready be there, in the following section:
    <applications> ...</applications>

  • X11 dual head - want to get window manager (gnome) on one screen only

What I want sounds simple, but I just can't get it done... Hope anyone is able to help me!
    What I've got:
Four monitors (two at each of my nVidia graphic cards). Both devices are configured using nVidia's Twinview, giving me two virtual screens (:0.0 and :0.1).
I can use xinerama to get one huge desktop, but this doesn't work well, as the borders between two screens of the same device are no longer recognized in this case, causing windows to always span over two monitors on maximization.
I can also not use xinerama, giving me two independant gnome session.
    What I want:
I want gnome to only start on one screen (i.e. two monitors), leaving the other screen blank but available. They don't need a WM as they will run nothing but a fullscreen mplayer or an xterm that will periodically output some stuff. I actually don't even need input devices for the second screen and it would be good if the mouse was restricted to the gnome-screen.
However, I didn't manage to make gnome start on only one screen. I don't care if it's done using one xsever with two screens attached or if I can do it starting a second xserver, I just want it resolved in some way.
I've tried to restrict gnome to :0.0 by setting the DISPLAY variable or giving gnome-sessions --display option. Both to no avail. When trying to start a second xsever (different layouts, each using one of the screens), my original screen becomes all white and on the second screen nothing happens. Any ideas?
