[Solved]Gnome Places Extension Links Error

As the title states, they are not pointing to the proper places.  For instance, when I click the home link it opens up an IDE called anjuta... Infact all links in the places menu point here. Nautilus is set as the default file manager, I have gone through various files and gconf-editor to change the menu.
No Joy.
Any help would be appriciated as searching on google has lead to no change.

I'm having this issue as well right now. When opening a location from the Places extension in the Gnome3 top bar, Audacious starts scanning that location for songs...
Looking in the /usr/share/applications/mimeapps.list file learns me that Audacious, Easytag and as third option Nautilus are set for inode/directory.
I changed it back a couple of days ago, it was working correctly until my next update with pacman. Something triggered the 3 applications again for inode/directory and I would have to correct it again. But what is making this change? How is the mimeapps.list populated?

  • [SOLVED] Gnome Shell Extensions won't install from website

    When I go to https://extensions.gnome.org/ from either Chromium or Firefox, extensions fail to install. If I click the toggle to turn a new extension "ON", nothing happens. Reloading the site switches it back to "OFF".
    I was able to install gnome-shell-extension-mediaplayer-git from the AUR. (Which also pulls in gnome-shell-extension-common-git.) It works fine. The problem is that most of the extensions on the AUR appear to be outdated and the users directed to the official site.
    This is a relatively new install of Arch and extensions have never worked. Maybe there's a package I'm missing? Or is there a way to get any debugging output? I'm not sure where to look.

    I found the following from AskUbuntu (not my own words, pasted from the source:
    I'll take a wild stab in the dark: If you're using Chrome/Chromium, navigate to about:plugins and make sure "Gnome Shell Integration" is enabled. Then navigate back to extensions.gnome.org and when the ribbon appears at the top make sure you "Always Allow for this Site"
    On Firefox you'll have to do something similar if you've turned extensions off. Browse to about:plugins and make sure libgnome-shell-browser-plugin.so is present / enabled. If it's not, upgrade Gnome Shell, or find it on your filesystem and link to it from to ~/.mozilla/plugins (you shouldn't have to do this though).

  • [SOLVED] gnome-shell-extension-user-theme doesn't work.

    gnome-tweak-tool shows that I have the gnome-shell-extension-user-theme extension installed and I can turn it on and off, but it has no effect. I still can't choose a theme. The exclamation mark next to the drop down selector is still active when the extension is on. Any idea what might be wrong?

    Well yea I agree, but atm it's not going to happen. Anyway, since GS won't work with Catalyst for now I resorted to DWM and try to avoid all the gconf/dconf stuff. Works quite well

    Hello, I somehow managed to get EasyTag to open the links in Gnome's Places menu, but it's driving me insane.

    If you don't run into any trouble when running an update you should be fine. If you do pacman should tell you which packages are causing the issue.

    if you can't compile the webutil.pll in your forms developer you need to set the forms_builder_classpath in you windows registry. You have to add the frmwebutil.jar,jacob.jar to the registry key. The configuration files you mention are for running the forms.

  • Gnome-shell-extension-places-menu

    Hello,
    I have some questions about the places menu.
    1. Is it possible to have it show an item that I have in my bookmarks which is to a samba share?
    smb://192.168.1.202/temp/ (named Temp)
    While that location is mounted, the item shows as a removable device. However, I would like to be able to mount the location from the places menu.
    2. Is it possible to show removable devices (such as usb flash drives) before they are mounted? (I don't automount my drives)
    3. Is it possible to see a newly added bookmark without restarting the shell? (or see removed bookmark go away)
    I guess I am asking if it is possible to have the places menu in the shell show the items that are in the "places" of nautilus.
    I have also played with the gnome-shell-extension-drives-menu. The description of the package describes that it can be used to mount and unmount removable media. How do I unmount without opening Nautilus?

    Thanks
    FYI gnome-shell needs to be restarted for changes to appear.
    Alt+F2 type 'r' and enter to restart it.

    I checked two things at this point. First, that "org.gnome.shell.extensions.hidetopbar" is indeed present (which it is), and second that my version of Gnome is supported. I have Gnome 3.12, and according to "metadata.json" 3.12 is supported.
    [edit] Like an blind idiot I failed to see that README file which says:
    Installation:
    Compile the gsettings schema by running
    mkdir ./schemas/
    glib-compile-schemas --strict --targetdir=./schemas/ .
    Install this in your extensions directory:
    ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/
    Example:
    cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/
    git clone https://github.com/mlutfy/hidetopbar.git [email protected]
    cd [email protected]
    mkdir ./schemas/
    glib-compile-schemas --strict --targetdir=./schemas/ .
    gnome-shell-extension-tool -e [email protected]
    However when I followed the istructions I end up with the error
    $ glib-compile-schemas --strict --targetdir=./schemas/
    You should give exactly one directory name
    [edit2] I failed to notice the "." at the end of the "glib-..." line.
    ITs working now. Sorry for wasting Forum space.

    - Changing brightness does not work anymore (from hotkeys or brightness extension)

    - Background stays gray whatever I select in the settings
    Let me know if you have any fix for these issues.

    Reinstalling gnome-settings-daemon did the trick (it removed the deprecated "gnome-settings-daemon-intel-backlight")
    sudo pacman -Syyu gnome-settings-daemon

    My apologies for the slight necro-bump but I did a little digging in the wiki and found this very helpful piece of info:
    For any users that don't have any of the default folders such as Pictures, Downloads, etc, you can install and run:
    pacman -S xdg-user-dirs
    xdg-user-dirs-update
    everything in the Gnome places menu will be sorted and putting pictures in the 'Pictures' folder works!

  • Mac CS4 Linker Error with IAIColorSpace.cpp

    Hi Folks,
    I'm trying to use AIColorSpace in my Mac AICS4 Plug-In using Xcode 3.1.1 on Leopard 10.5.7, but I'm getting a linker errors (see below).
    Has anyone here included "IAIColorSpace.cpp" in their project and successfully compile an AICS4 plug-in using Xcode 3.1.1 on Leopard?
    When I include IAIColorSpace.cpp in my project, I get a linker error of:
    _sAIColorSpace, referenced from
    _sAIColorSpace$non_lazy_ptr in IAIColorSpace.o
    symbol(s) not found
    collect2: Id returned 1 exit status
    There are many Google hits of "non_lazy_ptr" errors with Xcode, but nothing has helped me solve this issue. Any help would be most appreciated!
    Thanks!
    -- Jim

    The usual culprit is that sAIColorSpace needs to be defined in all the right places. Typically its EXTERN'd in both a header & a cpp, as well as included in a list of suites to load (along with the version of the suite to load). Have you added it to all three places? Usually you just find the spots where all the other suties are and cut & paste it into their number. Where that would be depends on whether you're using your own plugin setup or if you're working off one of the Adobe skeleton samples plugins.

  • [Gnome Shell extension] PopupMenu not working

    Hi!
    I'm trying to develop a gnome shell extension, more precisely, a modification of the globalmenu extension. I want the old gnome2-globalmenu style instead of what have been already ported to gnome 3. So I've got a problem with my PopupMenu :
    I've got the menu but I can't click on it, the cursor doesn't have any effect on the menu, I can only click through all the menu items. The panel button code is shown below :
    function MyButton(label, path, app) {
    this._init(label, path, app);
    MyButton.prototype = {
    __proto__: PanelMenu.Button.prototype,
    _init: function(label, path, app) {
    PanelMenu.Button.prototype._init.call(this, 0.0);
    this._metaDisplay = global.screen.get_display();
    this._targetApp = app;
    let bin = new St.Bin();
    this.actor.add_actor(bin);
    this.actor.reactive = true;
    this._label = new St.Label({ style_class: 'panel-globalmenu-item',
    text: label
    bin.set_child(this._label);
    /*this._visible = !Main.overview.visible;
    if (!this._visible)
    this.actor.hide();
    Main.overview.connect('hiding', Lang.bind(this, function () {
    this.show();
    Main.overview.connect('showing', Lang.bind(this, function () {
    this.hide();
    this.menu.connect('open-state-changed', Lang.bind(this, this.refreshMenu, path, this.menu));
    refreshMenu: function(obj, open, path, menu) {
    if(!open) {
    return false;
    var xwindow = this._getTargetXWindow();
    if(xwindow != 0) {
    var manager = new Manager();
    manager.GetUiRemote(xwindow, path,
    Lang.bind(this, function(result, error, xwindow) {
    this.rebuildMenu(menu, path, result, xwindow);
    }, xwindow)
    return false;
    rebuildMenu: function(menu, path, ui, xwindow) {
    var xml = XML('<menu>'+ui+'</menu>');
    var i = 0;
    menu.removeAll();
    var current_group = new PopupMenu.PopupMenuSection();
    for each (var item in xml.*) {
    var visible = !([email protected]() == "false");
    var sensitive = !([email protected]() == "false");
    var menuitem = null;
    switch(item.name().toString()) {

    menuitem.menu = new PopupSubMenu(menuitem.actor, menuitem._triangle);
    menuitem.menu.connect('open-state-changed', Lang.bind(menuitem, menuitem._subMenuOpenStateChanged));
    menuitem.menu.connect('pre-open-state-changed',
    Lang.bind(this, this.refreshMenu, path + i + '/', menuitem.menu));
    } else {
    menuitem = new PopupMenu.PopupMenuItem([email protected]());
    break;
    case "separator":

    menuitem.actor.has_tooltip = true;
    menuitem.actor.visible = visible;
    if(!sensitive) {
    menuitem.actor.add_style_pseudo_class('insensitive');
    menuitem.connect("activate", Lang.bind(this, function(menuitem, event, xwindow, path) {
    var manager = new Manager();
    manager.EmitRemote(xwindow, path);
    }, xwindow, path + i));
    current_group.addMenuItem(menuitem);
    i++;
    menu.addMenuItem(current_group);
    if (path == "/" && i == 1) {
    var quitMenu = new PopupMenu.PopupMenuItem("Close %s".format(this._targetApp.get_name()));
    menu.addMenuItem(quitMenu);
    quitMenu.connect('activate', Lang.bind(this, this._onQuit));
    _getTargetXWindow: function() {
    if (this._targetApp == null)
    return 0;
    var list = this._targetApp.get_windows();
    var window = list[0];
    return GlobalMenu.meta_window_get_xwindow(window);
    I don't know how to solve this issue, maybe someone could help me.

    No offense taken, and yes, I've seen the other threads. However this one is interesting since it a) works under root login and b) works on my laptop running an almost identical Arch setup (down to SLiM login and various other config files).
    Oh, and the gnome-shell-extension-apps-menu package is in the official repos, not AUR.

    thanks for replying. I added the following to the end of the PKGBUILD above:
    msg "GIT checkout done or server timeout"
    qmake
    make
    package() {
    make DESTDIR=$pkgdir PREFIX=/usr install
    And changed the dependencies after pursuing some error messages:
    depends=('gnome-globalmenu-xfce4' 'qt-appmenu' 'appmenu-qt')
    makedepends=('git' 'qt-private-headers')
    and ran makepkg -s (I updated the PKGBUILD in the OP to reflect the changes). The output is more than before but it doesn't get very far before exiting:
    g++ -c -m64 -pipe -march=x86-64 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -Wall -W -D_REENTRANT -fPIC -DQT_NO_DEBUG -DQT_PLUGIN -DQT_XML_LIB -DQT_GUI_LIB -DQT_CORE_LIB -DQT_SHARED -I/usr/share/qt/mkspecs/linux-g++-64 -I. -I/usr/include/QtCore -I/usr/include/QtGui -I/usr/include/QtXml -I/usr/include -I. -o qx11menubarimpl.o qx11menubarimpl.cpp

    make: *** [qx11menubarimpl.o] Error 1
    The only hits google recognises for "QtGui/private/qabstractplatformmenubar_p.h"  are for a package Fedora names 'libqt4-private-dev' and Ubuntu's 'qt-devel-private'. From what I can it tell, qt-private-headers should be the corresponding package in Arch (and is included in the dependencies for that reason) but I can find no trace of the missing file in my system after having installed it.
    Kinda stuck from here. :-/

  • Install Gnome 3 extensions via firefox

    I'm using Arch x64 with Gnome 3.2.1 and Firefox 8.0.1 on my laptop, the Firefox Gnome Shell Plugin is installed and activated.
    I can browse through the extensions on https://extensions.gnome.org/ and I can see the activate/deactivate switches and trigger them. After that I'm beeing asked if I really want to install this extension but after I click on the install button nothing happens. The "installed extensions" tab on the site is empty. No error message at all. Is there a log file for firefox extensions or gnome itself?
    I looked through the log files in /var/log/* but didn't found anything.
    On my desktop with the same setup of software the install process works like a charm.

    I got the package list from kahelos, and installed the following (missing ones got installed), now extensions can be installed from extensions.gnome.org.
    application's optional dependencies are not installed which package groups like gnome.
    I still don't know which package fixed/enabled the extensions feature for gnome 3.2 and firefox. I installed archlinux64 with xorg, gnome, gnome-extra, gstreamer groups. There are still too many manual minor dependency management in a fresh install.
