[solved] gnome resets xfce-settings?

hi everybody,
i have installed both, gnome and xfce4, mostly using xfce4 atm.
whenever i log in to gnome and go back to xfce afterwards a lot of my settings i made in xfce are changed. this concerns gtk-theme including fonts, wallpaper, some panel applets and xfwm-theme. if i change them back to my likes and log in/out everything is ok until the last login to gnome.
i find this to be quite annoying but i can't find a solution myself so please...
EDIT: works again after deleting ~/.config/xfce4

hm... no ideas so far.
i would like to post error messages or something else that might help but i cant think of anything except that all versions are up to date (XFCE 4.6.0, Gnome 2.24.3)
fusion-icon uses different settings in XFCE and Gnome as well, is that normal behaviour?
thanks in advance,
rokkon

Yes, I am connected to the Internet through my wifi. Everything is working fine with the e  eption of youtube.  I have reset all Internet settings and have tried synching to iTunes followed by rebooting.  This is all the advice I have found although none of it has been helpful.

  • [Solved]Gnome 3 global proxy settings not working

    Hi
My laptop runs Arch and I use it at a hostel and University. Both have different proxy settings and I had configured it by using a script (if one can call it that) in {/etc/profile.d/} that exported the correct settings. I had to edit (comment/uncomment) my setting every time I mover my laptop.
I need the setting globally for Chromium to pick it up. Chromium until recently had a problem when accessing the Gnome 3 network (proxy) settings. A new update seem to have fixed this but the problem of picking up the setting remains.
I started up a terminal to see how that global proxy setting in Gnome 3 were shown and found that only the following were set
    https_proxy
    all_proxy
    ftp_proxy
The main one that I need {http_proxy} was not set, even thought I defined it. I think this is an issue with Gnome 3 and was not sure where I should report it. Any solutions will be much appreciated.

I've had issues lately with Gnome 3 and proxy settings. For example, as of today (or sometime this weekend) Firefox is not obeying the system proxy settings (System Settings -> Network -> Proxy). Even better was that today I found that the system proxy settings had "magically" reset to proxy.company.com:8080 (or whatever their default setting is). If I manually set Firefox's proxy settings, it connects just fine. All terminal applications that I use only obey the http_proxy environment variable. Other programs, such as Evolution, seem to not obey the Gnome system proxy settings but only the ones set in GConf (not DConf) (which were also "magically" reset today).

  • My iphone 4s has been reporting invalid sim/sim card failure intermittently for a week. tried to solve problem permanently - in mid of reset all settings my sim card failed again. help! not backed up on icloud, just itunes.  don't ask. thanks!

my iphone 4s has been reporting invalid sim/sim card failure intermittently for a week. I thought it was a one/two-time thing, so had to manually eject SIM card and put back in.  Today, after it happened twice in 12 hours, someone told me to reset - i thought they meant reset all settings, not network settings.  while in the middle of resetting, there was an invalid SIM card again.  so a few questions - which should i do first?  try to manually back up from itunes (not connected to cloud - will be after tonight!), or eject SIM card?  don't know if one will jeopardize the other.  also, the last time i backed up was 6 days ago - have taken hundreds of pics since then - are those all lost?  is there a way to essentially not reset?  i thought the reset was okay because it said i'd lose no data or media. Help!  thanks much!

  • My 3gs is magnifying my screen so that I can't access the "edges" of the screen - most functions won't work.  I tried to reset "all settings" but I can't access the full keypad to enter my passcode.  Re-boot does not solve this.

I have an Iphone 3gs - a little over one year old.  It just started magnifying the screen so that many of the functions are not accessable.  Scrolling is either very difficult or impossible.  I've rebooted it many times (in fact I usually need to do that multiple time just to be able to manpulate the keypad to enter my passcode).
I also tried to reset all settings.  One that screen I can't access enough of the keypad to enter my passcode.  Any comments/help would be appreciated.

This is asked and answered often.  The forum search bar is on the right side of this page.

  • Hi. I tried to change my old icloud account on a new one. After reset the settings I need to enter my old Apple ID account and password, that I don't remember.

Hi. I tried to change my old icloud account on a new one. After reset the settings I need to enter my old Apple ID account and password, that I don't remember.
I do not remember it because when I bought the my iPhone 4s in 2011 I didn't understand how it works and asked a representative to set it up for me. The representative helped me and gave a piece of paper with login and password but I lost it a long time ago.
Before resetting the settings I turned off "Find my iPhone" function, but it anyway asks me to enter my old Apple ID and password. I have the original box, documents, receipt. So how can I solve this problem?

  • After connecting to Bluetooth keyboard, iPad 2 will not connect to Internet (wifi) at all. Wifi is ok, have tried turning off bltooth, wifi on iPad. It sees the network but won't connect.  Help?  Have also reset network settings etc

My iPad wifi was working great until I I connected it by Bluetooth to a keyboard (zagg).  It was the first time I'd used Bluetooth
Immediately Internet was dropped on my ipad. My iPhone was and is still connected no prob. And I cannot get the iPad wifi to work again....at all!!!
This is major as I am away from my desktop for three months.  Any fix cannot involve being at my desktop with iTunes which is 10,000 km away
So far This is what I've tried based on other discussions-
-turned Bluetooth off and unpaired to keyboard which was also turned off
    - turned iPad wifi off and on (several times)
    - forgot the network I useArrive Jul 19 depart Aug 25th. Originally it was Sept 9.
    -- reset network settings
What happens is that the iPad sees the network and I enter my password. But, instead of getting "check mark" indicating a successful connections it keeps "circling".  Sometimes the airport bars will show, but disappear or flicker.  It never connects with a check noted in settings.   Any attempts to use internet confirm there is no connection
My network is not a cafe or public network. It is one I regularly use here at my family's home where I am visiting
    Any ideas!

  • [SOLVED] Gnome 3.12 search results in Activities overview

When I'm searching for an application in the Activities overview I'm getting the icons on the top row of matching applications, and beneath that I have 4 empty rows of search results: 1 for Terminal, 1 for Files, 1 for Keys and 1 for Weather.
Those 4 categories are available in Gnome Control Center under the Search button and are activated. When I completely disable the Search option in the titlebar of Control Center and I restart Gnome-Shell with the 'r' command, I have normal behaviour again. When I enable the Search function and restart Gnome-Shell I get those ugly empty rows again which clutter my search results. Turning on or off 1 of those individual search categories doesn't make a difference, the rows are always empty.
I have a complete up to date stable Gnome 3.12 x64 desktop. I can't remember having this behaviour on 3.10 or having changed the search options lately.
Is there a way to populate the search categories or should I reset some settings / delete some cache? What's the search engine behind all this?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Chazza!
I installed Tracker (because it wasn't installed yet), configured it, had it index my locations, turn on searching for Files and Weather and logged in again. After that it worked flawlessly.

Is it the way I can reset all settings only
    Or
It's also a way which can restore my iPhone too?
