[SOLVED] Graphic Corruption with 3D and Wine 1.3.8 + Catalyst 10.11

Hello!
I'm getting graphic corruption with 3D games on my Arch Linux configuration using Wine and Catalyst. Tried World of Warcraft (also with opengl rendering) and Guild Wars - graphics look stretched and teared.
Using ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I get same problem with guildwars in fullscreen when entering character select. I have to ctrl-alt-F1 to tty then back to get rid of the garbled graphics. Then my characters vanishes except for their armor/effects. Going into windowed mode stops the garbling of the graphics but the bodyless avatars remain. There is one error stands out in wine output but can't find anything specific to this error that helps.

  • Graphics issue with Jdev and Ubuntu Maverick

    Hi,
    I just upgraded one machine Dell Optiplex 755 to Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 with Java 1.6.0.23 and Oracle JDeveloper 11g 11.1.1.3.0. Since then, my Jdev is not working properly from a graphic point of view. When you start it , it doesn't show all the icons in the console. You have to pass the mouse over them to be shown, and as soon as you minimize/maximize the window, those are hidden again. It's like Java or Jdev are not sending the correct commands to repaint the screen.
    I don't have any similar graphic issue with any other application like openOffice or Oracle SQL datamodeler. But I do have the same issue with the Oracle SQL developer application, the icons are not shown unless you pass the mouse over them and they disappear if you minimize/maximize the window. Jdev and SQL Developer have a similar interface so I think is related with Java and these specific interfaces.
    The drivers of the graphic card, ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT, are up to date and I already tried with different tweakings in the graphical properties.
    Does any of you have any suggestion/solution?
    This didn't happen with an Ubuntu 9.10 and old versions of java and Jdev installed in the same machine.
    Greetings and thank you.

    Hello,
    I have changed my graphic card. i mean, replace ATI Radeon by Gforce.

    In addition to these, sometimes there's also a white block under the menu bar and weird graphic corruptions around shadows.
    I received a Wacom graphic tablet for Christmas but apart from that no new drivers have been installed. Also, Opera has been crashing when I press a down or backspace key (though only sometimes) but that's probably unrelated.

  • [SOLVED] no sound with 32bit prefix wine

    Hello,
    I am trying to play Ultra Street Fighter IV and I am running into a few issues.
    My standard wine prefix is a 64bit one.
    With it, I can play the game, hear the audio fine, but the videos/cut scenes don't appear at all. They're completely skipped.
    Looking around I found someone on wine db saying wmp9 fixed it for him, and so I tried.
    Unfortunately for wmp9 I need a 32bit wine prefix.
    I created one, winetricks wmp9 and yes the videos did play, success! But alas now the game has no sound... the in-game-videos do but not the game itself.
    Running winecfg on the 32bit wine prefix, I can hear the test sound, so I am not sure what the problem is.
    I have a wine-git build from the 14th September.
    I have also tried with a 1.7.24 csmt build and it was the same.
    I do not believe the issue is in wine itself, but who knows.
    I have tried setting Windows to XP or 7 and the result was the same.
    I have tried playing with winetricks settings but no result.
    I am running on Arch Linux 64b.
    I believe I have all the packages needed but again...:
    multilib/lib32-openal, multilib/lib32-libpulse multilib/lib32-alsa-plugins multilib/lib32-alsa-lib multilib/lib32-alsa-oss
    With a default wine command line, I do not see any particular error related to audio.
    I tried WINEDEBUG=+all, but it's way too much stuff... no clue what is important or not.
    The command line I use:
    WINEPREFIX=/home/<32BIT_WINE> WINEARCH='win32' wine-csmt SSFIV.exe
    I do not have any lib32 gstreamer installed, but I believe wine doesn't use gstreamer anymore so it shouldn't be a problem right?
    I am using pulse and checked in pavucontrol that there is no stream for the game.
    Thanks for any help!

    V1del wrote:I think it needs a native XAudio DLL that may have been installed by some other game when you installed it but lacks on the default 32bit fresh prefix, so check your 64bit wine prefix if it has a native XAudio dll somewhere and try to copy that over to the win32 one (sorry no info on the actual version/location not on my arch right now)
    Good guess!
    I have some xaudio files in the 64b one but not the 32bit one.
    I have no clue where that came from. Let's try copying them.
    How did you even know about that?
    olive wrote:For 32bit audio you need to install lib32-mpg123. But maybe the problem is with your application. Does it work with other 32 bit applications? In wine, it's best to include all the optional dependencies to have everything working, please do pacman -Qi wine and ensure that the optional dependencies are installed (unless you know you do not need something).
    I already have that library and all the optdepts of wine as well.
    Now as for another app it's a good question, let me see.

  • Apple - PLEASE fix the graphical bug with Dock and Stacks! PLEASE!

    Using popular Mac games such as Diablo II, Freeverse's Wingnuts, Ambrosia's Aperion, and Blitwise's Super DX-Ball (as well as a LOT more) results in a common graphical glitch with the Dock and stacks, making fan stacks totally useless until I restart my iMac. Killing and relaunching the Dock doesn't fix it. Only restarting my Mac temporarily sorts it out. This is a highly annoying bug most often set off by games that Apple STILL hasn't fixed as of 10.5.3. So I let every developer (who I do not blame, BTW) know whose product results in this bug, in the hope they will apply pressure to Apple. Leopard has been the buggiest release since 10.1 IME and Apple is taking there sweet time about crushing such crippling bugs. Suffice to say it's really ******* me off.
    Here is a screenshot from another 24" iMac afflicted by this bug after running a game:

    Notice the open stack is just grey bars. The icons and names are not

  • Graphics Issue with Dock and Quickview

    After using my computer for sometime (more than 2 hours), the graphics on both Coverflow and the Dock start to degrade. On the dock, my stacks will almost disappear- leaving only a few stray pixels where my fan of files should appear. On the dock itself, horizontal bars will be missing from some icons... In Coverflow, these same horizontal bars will appear as well. If I do a restart- everything goes back to normal.
    All of my software is up to date- and the computer is only a few weeks old (has been doing it since day one). Does anyone know if this is a hardware issue?

    could have something to do with how you are sharing your desktop b/t the laptop and the monitor... try resetting your monitor to "clone" or resetting your home screen to the laptop BEFORE unplugging the external monitor--

  • Graphical artifacts with DX11 (and OGL4) on imac 27" late 2012 GTX 675 MX

    Hello, dear community! I have the imac 27" late 2012 with graphical card GTX 675 MX.
    In Mac OS X 10.8.5 all works perfect. Software, games (Bioshock Infinity), benchmarks (heaven 4.0). But in windows...
    I was installed Windows 8, then 7, then 8 again, and every time after installing nvidia drivers (with BootCamp, or manually downloaded from nvidia site) i have some graphical artifacts ("||" randomly on the screen). On win 7 it was only in games (like Bioshock Infinity or Tomb Raider), on win 8.1 everywhere(on desktop and in games). In DX9 games (like World Of Tanks) all perfect, in DX10/11 games (BI or TR) - artifacts. After thousend of tests i run Heaven Unigine 4.0 with OpenGL(other settings the same) in macos and in windows(on 7 and on 8), for checking some hardware issue if it exists. But on mac os x, as i already said, all is perfect, but on windows - randomly appers artifacts.
    I record a video to illustrate my problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwEog66vfFk&feature=youtu.be
    Help me please! People in service told me that this is not a guarantee issue

    I assume you have GPU-Z and other tools to look at gpu. the imac falls between notebooks and desktops when it comes to graphics. and it may be some programs just are not written for that graphic device? possibly?
    I've been on Windows 8.1 mostly along with 8.0 and graphic drivers have been "bumpy road" at times and I was able to swap out and use different graphic cards on my PC - had me thinking I had an SSD related issue, then replaced memory (those were bad it turned out, and could have caused drivers and system errors).
    Windows has memtest on the DVD and I have seen one or three people with real problems that did not show up until they did more tests, even though Mac OS was blindly oblivious to anything being wrong (it was, they upgraded RAM and SO-DIMM was not fully seated in one case, in another the RAM module had to be replaced).
    Extended Tests using Apple Hardware Test is not conclusve and almost never ever when comes to finding gpu or memory 'errors.' There you are better with Windows test utility.

  • Anyone have any luck with steam and wine

    im trying to get any steam to work with wine and so far i've had no luck.
    i have a 512 ATI RADEON X1600 graphics card and im using the open source ati driver.
    have had some success with counterstrike 1.6.  I start a game (local) but it is extremely choppy/laggy.
    does anyone have any pointers on how to get it to run more smoothly?

    I don't know how well the open source drivers are going to handle games, catalyst may work better but you will have to use the legacy driver (here) for an X1600, and it doesn't work with the most recent kernel.

  • Preventing data corruption with TM and a TC over a wireless connection?

    Long story short: I was using TM and a TC via wireless connection to do the usual ~/ backups. My last "manual" backup to a USB hard drive was on June 1.
    I decided to wipe the partition to remove a lot of built-up garbage, etc., and reinstall Snow Leopard -- which I did, followed by the 10.6.4 combo update, the usual other patches, and the like. Still reinstalling a thing or two. But when I tried to use Time Machine to restore the things I wanted to keep (about 100 GB of data in all), it was sporadically corrupted and useless. Handfuls of MP3 files that wouldn't play, a good number of PDFs that wouldn't open and were unrecognizable in Preview.app, that sort of thing.
    I went back to the June 1 data set and have noticed no issues thus far, but that also means that everything new from June 1 to mid-July was lost.
    I would like to still be able to use TM+TC wirelessly, but have it be reliable, so what I'm wondering is this: how can I ensure data integrity when wirelessly backing up my home directory? What can I do to make sure corruption issues like this don't happen again?
    I guess the obvious one is to not stop backups in progress by closing the lid or such a thing, but... what else?
    Thanks.

    I would like to still be able to use TM+TC wirelessly, but have it be reliable, so what I'm wondering is this: how can I ensure data integrity when wirelessly backing up my home directory? What can I do to make sure corruption issues like this don't happen again?
    I don't mean to be negative here, it's just that with so many wireless interference issues with other networks, cordless phones, security systems, other nearby electronics, etc...the list goes on....I find that it is getting difficult to use the words "wireless" and "reliable" in the same sentence.
    If you consider that a business, with important files to back up constantly, would never consider the use of wireless for this function, it might help place things in perspective.
    If you are using Time Machine, I think it goes without saying that your first master backup should be using ethernet because the entire computer is being backed up on this pass. Not only will the backup proceed much more quickly, but it will be much more reliable as well. There are no wireless interference issues when you use ethernet.
    If you don't need to backup each hour, as Time Machine does, you might want to look at Time Machine Editor to allow you to setup a backup schedule whenever you like. Maybe once a day at 2 or 3 AM when things around the neighborhood on wireless systems have quieted down and the cordless phones are not in use. Or, if you are on the computer quite a bit, maybe twice or three times day. This will minimize the chances of a corrupted backup due to wireless interference.
    And a good wireless connection is a must. The "bars" at the top of your computer screen are there basically for show and they tell you nothing about damaging noise that may be present on your network. Post back if you want more info on evaluating your wireless signal quality, which is a combination of the best signal with the lowest noise.
    I guess the bottom line is this...the more you can use ethernet (maybe think of your important data as if it were your business files), the better things will be.

  • What's the difference between graphics processor with 256MB and 512MB

    I'm doubting between buying the more expensive or the cheaper Macbook Pro model.
    Does someone knows the limitations I will have with the 256MB model? It is worthy to pay u$500 for the 512MB model?
    Is there any other big difference (besides the RAM size) between the 2 models that could make me decide for one or the other?
    thanks a lot for your help!

    Andresb... the $500 gets you more than just 256MB texture memory. You'll also get a slightly faster CPU with more cache, double the installed memory, and an 80gb larger hard drive.
    But sticking to your question, what does the extra video memory do? It's used by graphics intensive applications for rendering and textures, etc. I don't know of any programs that will not run if you have less than 512MB, they just won't run quite as fast.
    While you can add more memory or replace the hard drive with a bigger one at a later date, you can not increase the CPU speed, add more CPU cache, or upgrade the video memory on the machine. For a lot of people, that won't be a big deal - the question really is how much of a power user do you really think you are?
    Good luck with your decision!

  • How to solve the exception with socket and PrintWriter constructor

    I am working on a socket communication program and everything works fine on my computer until my boss moved my code to his computer. The following is the client code.
    The client program terminate with exception "Couldn't get I/O for the connection to local host." I have no idea how to solve the problem because there is no way out if the two statements (socket constructor and PrintWriter) fail.
    /*the program shall close connections and exit if the user clicks 'e'.*/
    public class LocalClient extends JPanel implements KeyListener {
    Socket localSocket = null;
    PrintWriter out = null;

    System.exit(1);

    localSocket.close();
    System.exit(1);
    } catch (IOException e)
    {System.out.println("connection closed");}
    else {

  • [SOLVED] firefox problems with Twitter and google+

    I've been having some issues with firefox. I don't know if they are related, but they've been getting on my nerves.
    First off, Twitter just shows a blank page with the background picture. I can't view any twitter posts at all.
    Secondly, pages which check for browser compatibility all seem to report that my browser isn't supported (it is). For example, Google+ gives me a "Your Browser is no longer supported." page while the list of supported browsers states: "Linux : Chrome, Firefox 3.6 and up".
    I'm using the latest version of firefox from extra (7.0.1-1). Also, these problems are not new to this version, as they have been occurring for as long as I've had this computer (~10 months). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Disabling the plugins did nothing, but creating a new profile seems to have fixed it.
    I still don't know what caused the problems, but I've migrated all my stuff over to the new profile and everything is working well. I'm marking this thread as solved, thanks for the help!
