[SOLVED] Graphical Interface doesn't start with Radeon HD 7670M

Hi everyone!
I just bought a new laptop: Toshiba Satellite L855-14Z with a Radeon HD 7670M graphic chip.
I installed Arch Linux and everything works fine except the graphical interface.
I have tried 3 options and all result in strange log files:
1. KMS DISABLED / OPEN-SOURCE-DRIVER
Output on screen:     Reached Graphical Interface

Yes I did, but it didn't help.
I solved the problem now, but it was rather complicated and is only a workaround. If anyone is having the same problem:
1) I installed the open source drivers and enabled KMS
2) I copied the efi shell from the arch boot disk to the rEFInd folder
3) Now everytime I start my laptop I have to start the EFI-Shell (v1) first. This somehow changes the resolution. I exit the shell and start arch. X works.
I have no idea why this works, but it is the only thing that does. If anyone knows what this means, I'd appreciate your help.
By the way: Step 3 also solves this issue

  • [SOLVED]Graphical environment doesn't start on boot

    Hi,
    I've tried to change default boot target to graphical, but it doesn't work. I use grub so I tried to edit
    /etc/default/grub
    GRUB_DEFAULT=2
    GRUB_TIMEOUT=5
    GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="Arch"
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet systemd.unit=graphical.target"
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
    It didn't change anything, so I tried to use
    systemctl set-default -f graphical.target
    But it's not working either. What am I doing wrong? Or what am I missing?
    I know that simple workaround is starting X after log in to console, but I don't want this.

    If you don't wan't to use a DM: Start X at Login and Automatic login to virtual console. Then set multi-user as default target.

  • [SOLVED]Compiz Fusion doesn't start!

    Hello,
    After an upgrade Compiz Fusion doesn't start. Normally I start Compiz Fusion with the command:
    fusion-icon
    But now it gives on a terminal the following output:
    fusion-icon
    * Detected Session: gnome
    * execution of "which glxinfo" failed
    * Error: glxinfo not installed!
    I searched with Yaourt on "glxinfo", but there is no package called "glxinfo".
    Could someone help?

    Hello,
    The problem is solved. Instead of
    fusion-icon
    I use
    compiz-manager
    Thanks to xaiviax for his reply.

  • [Settled] Xorg doesn's start with linux-3.17.3 and 4

    I'm guessing this is related to changes in the radeon part of the kernel.
    For me, using auto start and starting xorg from xprofile, the last two kernels have been unusable.
    The display is blinking, as xorg is started about once a second, and nothing works.
    CPU: AMD A8-3850 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
    Graphics card: VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cayman PRO [Radeon HD 6950]
    Linux-3.17.2 works fine and I guess I can use IgnorePkg in pacman.conf for now;
    but I'm curious as to what is happening, and if anybody is working on the problem.

    first : This should probably have been posted in the kernel & hardware board , i've requested this topic to b emoved there.
    second : we need more information .
    laptop or desktop ?
    brand & model ?
    proprietary drivers (catalyst) or opensource drivers ?
    you have 2 vga cards : an integrated one and a discrete card . Are you using prime , bumblebee or such ?
    the output of lspci -k would also be useful.
    If you boot to console, do things work ?

  • IMovie 9.0.9 doesn't start with yosemite

    Good morning, I've found in Application folder that there's the old iMovie 9.0.9, but when I try to launch it, it doesn't start ....
    But, If I select the package content of the App (mouse right click) and double click over "iMovie EXE", only in this cas, I can use iMovie 9.0.9 (it starts) .....
    In the same time runs also "Terminal" with this text message ......
    Can I do something to unable the icon of iMovie 9.0.9 or under Yosemite is it impossible ?
    ps. I prefer iMovie 9.0.9 because I can still use chapter marker that I make with iMovie 9.0.9 with iDVD ......

    Hey,
    On cinnamon, pulseaudio starts on startup but with gnome3.8/3.6 pulseaudio doesn't start.

    Does someone know how to fix this?

    But there wasn't such an entry so I have to add by myself
    If someone is curious how I added it..:
    1. Run `gnome-session-propertiers`
    2. Click on `Add`
    3. Fill in
    `Name` with `PulseAudio Sound System` or something like that and
    `Command` with `start-pulseaudio-x11`
    Thats it!

  • After VO substitution, the "Imported document" doesn't start with "/oracle"

    Hello Everyone,
    I recently tried a VO substitution and while performing the import command in command prompt, the see the following:
    C:\>C:\p9879989_R12_GENERIC\jdevbin\oaext\bin\JPXIMPORT C:\p9879989_R12_GENERIC\jdevhome\jdev\myclasses\psu.jpx -username apps -password appsdev2 -dbconnection "(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=oradbdevsna01f.mascorp.com)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=DEV2)))"
    Imported document : /icx/por/wf/server/customizations/site/0/ReqLinesNotificationsVO
    Import completed successfully
    In the Jdeveloper, I made sure that the substitution that I'm making is oracle/apps/icx/por/wf/server/ReqLinesNotificationsVO with the new extended VO: xxmas/oracle/apps/icx/por/wf/server/XXMASReqLinesNotificationsVO
    If correct the Imported Document as mentioned above, it should always start with "/oracle/apps/icx/por/wf/server/customizations/site/0/ReqLinesNotificationsVO". Can anybody please explain my why it is happening? Your response is greatly appreciated
    Thanks,
    Anand

    Some general troubleshooting tips:
    1. Open the jpx file under myprojects with notepad and check if the paths are generated properly.
    2. Check your project settings and substituions once again.
    3. Restart the jdeveloper and then recheck the substitutions.
    4. Make sure to save all files after you create substituions and before you import.
    Thanks

  • Kdenlive doesn't start with the latest mlt package?

    Since mlt updated to 0.8.2 kdenlive starts with the error message:
    mlt_repository_init: failed to dlopen /usr/lib/mlt/libmltxml.so
    (/usr/lib/mlt/libmltxml.so: undefined symbol: mlt_playlist_new)
    mlt_repository_init: failed to dlopen /usr/lib/mlt/libmltcore.so
    (/usr/lib/mlt/libmltcore.so: undefined symbol: mlt_playlist_new)
    Even when the latest update specifies that kdenlive 0.9.2-5 requires mlt 0.8.2-3 the same error messages occur. What is wrong with my settings?

    hm.... this error message popped up... I think I accidentally forced installed mlt last time:
    error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)

    Hi all, the latest version of Nokia maps 2.0 all of a suddent doesn't work with new FW 210.34.75, I had to reinstall the previous version of maps 1.0 for it to load up again. What's the deal with FW 210.34.75, is it incompatible or what else?

    Sorry i cant be of any more help but I have had no problems with Maps 2.0 and FW210.34.75. It installed and worked fine on mine. There was however 2 versions of maps 2.0 for phones with and without maps already installed. May be worth trying to re-download the installer and try again.

    Is the only possibility to rollback the whole update?

    just a guess. try with
    Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "IgnoreABI" "True"
    EndSection
    in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    or start with
    startx -- -ignoreABI

    It will launch TeamViewer. Bugzilla page at : http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18569

    I faced this problem while I was running Ultrasurf  on Wine, the problems seems to be with the DLL files. I installed them using winetricks as instructed here http://www.bytechip.com/2011/06/how-to- … s-in-wine/ and solved the issue.

  • [SOLVED] Google Earth doesn't work with xf86-video-ati

    Hi all,
    I'm having a problem with the open-source ATI drivers.  I haven't had much luck finding out anything from anywhere else, so I'm hoping someone here can help.
    Whenever I start Google Earth, the graphics run EXTREMELY slowly, almost as if it's running on a system with low memory.  I'm running an Acer Extensa 4420 with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core 64-bit processor with 2GB of RAM.  As mentioned before, I'm running on the open-source xf86-video-ati drivers, but this is the only app that gives me problems.  GL screensavers run fine, and glxgears runs without any significant input.  Running Google Earth in terminal also gives no output.
    And I'm not sure if this is related, but closing Google Earth also crashes X.
    Here's xorg.conf:

    I had the same problem (slow googleearth) with ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility U1 (IGP 320m).
    This .drirc solves it. I don't have an xorg.conf.
    - no need for the 'disable_lowimpact_fallback' option
    - no need to turn off 'atmosphere'

  • [Solved] Graphical display won't start from cold boot.

    I noticed that if I turn on my computer and boot into linux the screen will go black after trying to start the display manager. Rebooting into linux will again display a blank black screen. Switching to TTY's with ctrl-alt-F* doesn't appear to work. If I boot into windows then boot linux the display works.
    I haven't been able to debug much because I can only cause this bug to occur after letting the computer sit off for a while. Shutting the computer down (systemctl poweroff) doesn't cause it, leaving it unplugged for a minute didn't cause it either.
    Today I tested ways to recreate the error without waiting, I don't remember how many things I tried, so I can't include boot logs from a failed boot, I'll grab them next time the bug happens.
    I'm running linux-ck and nvidia drivers installed from the linux-ck unofficial repository mentioned in the linux-ck wiki page.
    - Kernel:     repo-ck/linux-ck-ivybridge 3.12.9-3
    - Graphics: repo-ck/nvidia-ck-ivybridge 331.38-2
    - Display manager: community/lightdm 1:1.8.6-1
    Hardware:
    - ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
    - GTX 670 Graphics card.
    Solution:
    This was an issue with windows 8.1 fast start up, which is enabled by default. Instead of performing a clean shutdown windows will hibernate to disk. When linux booted the disks failed to mount.
    I disabled fast startup in windows Control Panel > Power Options > System Settings.

    So I left my computer off for more than three hours and the display started fine when I turned the computer on. This morning after the computer was off for about eight hours the display wouldn't come on. I have boot logs from a good, and a bad boot.
