[SOLVED] Grub problem using fakeraid
Hi,
I've been trying to install arch on Raid0 following https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … _Fake-RAID.
I load dm_mod and install arch using this partition table
pdc_jhaaaaghi1 (Boot) Primary NTFS (Windows)
pdc_jhaaaaghi2 Primary NTFS (Windows)
pdc_jhaaaaghi3 Primary ext2 (/boot)
pdc_jhaaaaghi5 Logical ext4 (/)
pdc_jhaaaaghi6 Logical ext4 (/home)
pdc_jhaaaaghi7 Logical swap
I install dmraid package and on configuration I add dm_mod to MODULES line and dmraid to HOOKS line in mkinitcpio.conf
I start configuring grub (I add (hd0,2) to root lines) and when it fails switch to another tty and run
# mount -o bind /dev /mnt/dev
# mount -t proc none /mnt/proc
# mount -t sysfs none /mnt/sys
# chroot /mnt /bin/bash
# dmsetup mknodes
# ln -s /dev/mapper/pdc_jhaaaaghip1 /dev/mapper/pdc_jhaaaaaghi1
# grub --device-map=/dev/null
grub> device (hd0) /dev/mapper/pdc_jhaaaaghi
grub> geometry (hd0) 121576 255 63
grub> root (hd0,2)
grub> setup (hd0)
grub> quit
On setup it says it's done but when I reboot I get this message instead of grub
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key
Thanks

Ok, it's solved now.
It wasn't the Gentoo's wiki thing. It was because of bios configuration and not Arch installation. I didn't look at this because windows was booting correctly before installation. But using the boot menu and selection my raid array it showed grub so I looked the boot device priority in bios and put my array first (it was second after usb devices).

photoshop elements 12 editor doesn't open, organizer is fine. I uninstalled the program and re-installed it (restarted the computer each time)...didn't solve the problem. using pc, windows 8.1
can someone help me with this issue?Two suggestions: the first one is a workaround. You just have to drill down your program file tree to Adobe Photoshop Elements Organizer and find the .exe file - the one specifically for Organizer, not Elements. Make a shortcut to that file on your desktop and it will open Organizer. The second suggestion resolved the problem altogether for me. I actually called Dell and after working with several different techs over several different days, I talked to a tech in premium support who was excellent. I discovered from them that it is actually a problem with the windows system files. I have 8.1. I went through a "refresh" on my computer which rebuilt all the files. Then reinstalled Adobe as well as my other programs again and Photoshop Elements Organizer works from the standard desktop shortcut.

[SOLVED] Grub Problems Can boot Arch w/ grub edits only
I had 3 Linux OS's installed on this computer, Arch and 2 versions of Ubuntu on one hard drive.
The MBR belonged to Ubuntu, using grub2. I decided to get rid of the older Ubuntu (sda8 and 9) and add it's HDD space to my Arch home (sda12). Used the current Gparted live to modify the partitions and all went well, but of course, the numbers changed getting rid of 2 partitions.
No boot upon restart so I decided to get Arch's grub back to the MBR with the new partition numbering scheme.
Using a live CD, I used the grub shell, find /boot/grub/stage1.....etc, etc. and after a bit of fumbling, grub indicated success in the shell. When I was through though, a reboot was not successful, although the current stable grub was now written to the MBR. I edited the lines using grub edit option, and got Arch to boot, and figured out the correct partition numbers. Next I edited the menu.lst to reflect the new sda numbers.
Now rebooting results in a long delay when grub should be on the screen, and the numbers on the Arch entries reflect the old numbers still!! I double checked thinking I forgot to save the edits to the menu.lst file, but they are correct. I can boot Arch, but have to edit the lines each time.
The current partitions are as follows. I edited the terminal output to show details.
[jeff@Arch2009p2 ~]$ sudo fdisk -l
Password:
Disk /dev/sda: 750.2 GB, 750156374016 bytes

/dev/sda10 (arch /home) 23628 91201 542788123+ 83 Linux
I have a few questions regarding a separate boot partition for Arch.
Should the grub> root (hd0.0) command be directed to the root or boot partition.
My handy printed emergency guide says: Set grubs root device to the partition containing the boot directory.
OK.....Writing it out now, it seems clear, so I'll try reinstalling grub from a live CD.
Why does grub have incorrect partition numbers even though the menu.lst is correct?
There are only 2 OS's on this box now, and one contains grub2.
Is current grub able to interact with grub 2 if I screwed something up on the install?

I managed to fix the problem of grub not reading/using the menu.lst file. Not sure WTF it was reading and where that file was located!
The problem seems to have been the most insignificant detail.
When using the grub terminal, I did not execute the quit command when I was through. I just closed the terminal and rebooted.
After repeating the following code via live CD a few times:
$ sudo grub
grub> find /grub/stage1
grub> root (hd0,7)
grub> setup (hd0)
Grub still didn't read the current menu.lst.
This morning I got things to work correctly and grub to read the current menu.lst by adding a quit command and returning to the linux shell prior to rebooting.
I used the following commands:
$ sudo grub
grub> find /grub/stage1
grub> root (hd0,7)
grub> setup (hd0)
grub> quit -
How I do I solve my problem using youtube on my safari browser?
When I watch a video on YouTube, the comments section does not load. I can read or post comments on youtube when I use other browsers.
I just returned from Italy. I have a US Verizon iPad (new version). I bought a microSIM card at the TIM store in Rome along with 5GB of data for 30 days. I installed the SIM card. Then, under General in Settings I did a reset of Network Settings. The iPad restarted, recognized the TIM 3G network, and from there is was smooth sailing.
I had excellent 3G coverage in both Roma and Cortona (Tuscany). -
Flex 4.5 problem using image in Mobile Application (Android)
I have a problem using flex and mobile application...
I have an image with path = "/mnt/sdcard/images/20120202172020990.jpg"
Simply using
<s:Image id="image" source="/mnt/sdcard/images/20120202172020990.jpg" />
Get me an empty image on device, still using it on computer (desktop build / debug) it works fine...
I have enabled every kind of permission in the app.xml
Why I got this error?I actually solved the problem using:
image.source = File.desktopDirectory.resolvePath(file_name).url;
using instead this one it will work only under windows...
image.source = File.desktopDirectory.resolvePath(file_name).nativePath;
I don't know if it's a bug or whatelse, but I think that the source property of Image passing a filename that start with / (/ is root for unix based OS, android, linux, ios, etc), will take is as a relative path instead of complete path... -
Excel Retrieve problem using Default Aliases
Using version 5.0.2 patch 14 on Windows 2000 client.When option "use aliases" is selected in Excel, we have started experiencing inconsistant and unreliable retrieves.Example:After first retrieve and zoom on Parent, display is:Parent__Child A__Child B__Child CRetrieve again, results:Parent__Child A__Child C__Child CLost the retrieve for Child B.Missing rows and zeros are NOT selected.Has anyone experienced this issue?
Thanks for the reply, Sergey. I have solved my problem using different approach.
First suggestion is ok and helpful which after I forgot to add in when I post this thread. Second suggestion would result on this:
<Styles>
<Style ss:ID="" ss:Name="Normal"> --- Attribute ID would be empty
<Alignment ss:Vertical="Bottom" />
<Font />
<Interior />
<NumberFormat />
<Protection />
</Style>
</Styles>
I modified previous approach and here is my code:
[code]
xmlTextWriter.WriteStartElement("Styles");
xmlTextWriter.WriteStartElement(string.Empty, "Style", sheet);
xmlTextWriter.WriteAttributeString("ID", sheet, "Default");
xmlTextWriter.WriteAttributeString("Name", sheet, "Normal");
xmlTextWriter.WriteStartElement("Alignment");
xmlTextWriter.WriteAttributeString("Vertical", sheet, "Bottom");
xmlTextWriter.WriteEndElement();//End Alignment
xmlTextWriter.WriteStartElement("Font");
xmlTextWriter.WriteEndElement();//End Font
xmlTextWriter.WriteStartElement("Interior");
xmlTextWriter.WriteEndElement();//End Interior
xmlTextWriter.WriteStartElement("NumberFormat");
xmlTextWriter.WriteEndElement();//End NumberFormat
xmlTextWriter.WriteStartElement("Protection");
xmlTextWriter.WriteEndElement();//End Protection
xmlTextWriter.WriteEndElement();//End Style
xmlTextWriter.WriteEndElement();//End Styles
xmlTextWriter.WriteStartElement(string.Empty,"WorkSheet", sheet);
xmlTextWriter.WriteAttributeString(string.Empty,"Name", sheet, "Sheet1");
xmlTextWriter.WriteStartElement(string.Empty, "Table", sheet);
xmlTextWriter.WriteAttributeString("ExpandedColumnCount", sheet, "2");
xmlTextWriter.WriteAttributeString("ExpandedRowcount", sheet, "2");
xmlTextWriter.WriteAttributeString("FullColumns", excel, "3");
xmlTextWriter.WriteAttributeString("FullRows", excel, "1");//To be modified

I have a iPhone 5. In usage, it says i have 2.1 gigs used because of photos and camera. I have deleted all my photos via iPhoto and now reset the phone back to factory settings in order to try to solve this problem, to no avail. Both iTunes and the phone say that 2.1 gigs are being used, even though the phone now has nothing on it. What is going on?
Yeah it works fine over wifi the problem is when I try to use it over my 3G. It's really stressing me out now.

My iPad shows a message "Cannot find AirPrint printer". I used to use my iPad to print materials using HP wireless printer D110. Now it does not want to print. Is this because I am now using IOS 7? What should I do to solve the problem? Help please.
Restart your WiFi router and printer by removing power for 30 seconds.

My macbook pro 13.3 inch i7 late 2011 edition has previously encountered unresponsive trackpad and keyboard. To solve that, I used to open the back cover and then close it. It has been working fine since that. Yesterday, same thing happened, this time I noticed that bluetooth icon is showing a cross sign across it and keyboard and trackpad were unesponsive. After some time , everything worked fine and bluetooth sign was back to normal. Then , suddenly it went back to the problem. I shut it down by holding the power button. When I booted it again, I could not login because keyboard and trackpad were not working. I attached a HP mouse it didnt work. I opened the back cover disconnected the battery and then connected it again, didnt worked. Since then , I have tried many things and nothing has solved the problem.
@sanjampet
As you suggested I reset the smc, in the first boot nothing worked. In the second boot, it all worked like a charm. I thought that my problem is resolved now. To test it, I shut it down properly. Next morning, I powered it on, all things i.e, keyboard, trackpad, bluetooth etc. worked and I thought that problem has been solved. When I was just going to visit apple forum to reply you, the same problem reappeared. A sawtooth cross over bluetooth icon, keyboard not working, trackpad not working,no usb mouse working which worked well when it was fine. I reset smc so many times again and again but same problem continued. Isn't it a problem of the firmware?
Next time when it will work, I will update its firmware.
My macbook was bought in dec2011 so no warranty now. -

The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup... Restore as New...
Restart / Reset

Hi, when ever I'm using 3G, on my Iphone4 sim stops working and network is lost, this started after I updated my phone with 6.0.1(10A523)version. Please help how to solve this problem. Thanks.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are not synced. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are not touched with the iTunes sync process. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your computer which is not handled by iTunes. Most importing software includes an option to delete the photos/videos from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete. If is my understanding that some Windows import software supports importing photos from the Camera Roll, but not videos. Regardless, the import software should not delete the photos/videos from the Camera Roll unless you set the app to do so.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are included with your iPhone's backup. If you synced your iPhone with iTunes before the videos on the Camera Roll went missing and you haven't synced your iPhone with iTunes since they went missing, you can try restoring the iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup. Don't sync the iPhone with iTunes again and decline the prompt to update the iPhone's backup after selecting Restore. -
Hello guys..!! I have got my new iphone 4 2 days ago.The same day it got a problem of auto restart in every 1, to 2 minutes. I updated and restored it many times...but of no use... can any one help me how to solve this problem..!!
Go to Settings/General/Reset - Erase all content and settings. the connecto to iTunes and restore as a New phone. Do not restore any backup. If the problem persists you have a hardware problem. Take it to Apple for exchange.
This assumes that the phone is not hacked or jailbroken. If it is you will have to go elsewhere on the internet for help. -
I can't work in Gmail since I use firefox 4. The button "New Contacts" doesn't appear. I've tried everything to solve this problem: thrown away history, cookies and ad-ons. In firefox save modus it works. In IE9 it works. Only not in firefox4.
In the former editions of firefox there were no problems.Extend wireless is simply no longer required as an option. Apple have assumed it will be extended and it is on by default.
With your main base setup.. I gather you are using the A1408??
Simply factory reset the TC..
Then when you do the setup.. extend wireless is the option that will automatically be offered to you.
I am just going to do it.. Other way around.. but it is the same thing.
So here we go..
I have factory reset the airport extreme.. and it takes a couple of min for it to come up.
You can also see it in wifi.
You can click on it in either place and get into the auto setup function.
I have no network connection at all on the extreme.. it is simply powered on and close to the computer.
It will automatically offer a name.. for reasons I won't go into here but see C9 http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Give the Extending router a name that is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. you can do it immediately here.
Go next..
Magically it is done..
Now fix up the errors..
Default password.. in my home this is not an issue.. and I don't want to change it ..
So I ignore it.
Second error is firmware is old.
But I much prefer 7.6.1 So I have no intention of giving that up.. -

How do i install grub now ?
L.E. : do not include the boot partition into LVM.
Last edited by psycho (2013-08-01 18:58:18)Your first partition starts at block 63. Grub has gotten so bloated that it now writes to not only the MBR, but also to the space from the MBR (after sector 0) to the start of the first partition, which these days is sector 2048. This new start point is for alignment purposes.
You either need to recreate your first partition and let fdsik align it to sector 2048, or you need to create a grub bios boot partition (as though you were using GPT).
Honestly, although grub2 can handle this, I think putting /boot inside the LVM is a bad idea. It just makes you totally reliant on grub2 with no other bootloader choice. For example, if something in some poorly designed program decided to write some crap to the area between the MBR and the first partition (which applications have been known to do), and you had a USB flash drive with syslinux on it (which the Arch live media has), then you could not set it up to boot your disc.
I think you should use the pvremove command to take that first partition out temporarily, then create two new partitions. One for /boot and one to add back. But this is not going to be very straight forward since you already have four primary partitions. It might be better to convert your partitions to GPT (which is super easy using gdisk) because then you are limited to only 128 primary partitions instead of a measly four. If you do that though, then you will have to make three new partitions if you want to continue to use grub2. You will additionally need the grub bios partition mentioned above. The grub2 wiki page had more info on this. But then you should make the /boot partition and then the partition to add back.
At the very least, you are going to have to remove the first partition so that it can be resized, and then add it back. Hopefully, you have not already filled the LVM space, so that you can easily shift things around. -
