[SOLVED] Gstreamer General

Hi All, I've been trying to get my iPod to work as it did in the days I had Ubuntu and Virtualbox. So I can get my music off, before I hand my phone over to my brother's windows laptop and itunes to get the OS updated to the newest one, incase it removes my music and I can't get it back. I installed Virtualbox with any dependencies it wanted. and then read through the Ipod wiki on the Iphone sections. I tried to get iFuse to work and it worked successfully, then decided to put the rules in the wiki in my udev rules for automounting and it worked a treat. Now it askes me what I want to do and I say open rhythmbox. But when I click to play a track a red icon appears and I get told either:
GStreamer encountered a general stream error.
or
This file contains no playable streams.
But mostly the first error appears. The second error has only appeard once or twice for a few tracks. Had a search through several forums with people getting the error (mostly with mp4 files) but nothing useful has come out of it. I'm also unsure if I still need iFuse if the udev rules thing still worked/
Huge thanks who can give me any guidance.
Note Amarok ran the tracks without a problem (although I really do like Rhytmbox better so would like it working). And I'm currently seeing if I follow the instructions regarding the Ifuse way for 3.0 and 4.0 versions will make things any better.
[EDIT] Half way through reinstalling everything I had so far to make sure nothing was corrupted or missing and following the instructions in the wiki for OS 4.X or 3.X and the music started playing, so I'm not sure exactly which is responsible for the fix, but it is now.

I was trying to get Xfce, I used "pacman -S Xfce4". Most of the packages are fine, but all the gstreamer packages won't download.
I don't have access to it right now, but the output was something like: Error: (ftp.archlinux.org) gstreamer0.10 *more version identification* Not Found
Like I said I'm using ftp.archlinux.org, and also the EasyNews mirror.

[SOLVED]GStreamer installation is missing a plugin

In gnome tracker, I get the following error,
"Call to gst_discoverer_discover_uri() failed: Your GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in."
This leads to none of my files being processed by gnome extract. That leads to none of the local files are displayed in gnome documents and that application is useless now.
Any idea which plugin might be missing? How do I go about checking it?
Edit: I reinstalled gstreamer plugins (including good, bad and ugly) and that seemed to solve the issue.

[SOLVED] GStreamer was unable to detect any sound devices

In my experiments to get the headphone jack working my my Mac Pro, I have managed to break the audio system. That's often the result of experimenting towards solving a problem.
I get this error when attempting to open the audio mixer panel.
"GStreamer was unable to detect and sound devices. Some sound system specific GStreamer packages may be missing. It may also be a permissions problem."
I suspect that the audio drivers have been corrupted during my experiments. How do I restore them?

[SOLVED] gstreamer error in banshee/totem

my audio seems to work just fine, system sounds work, and cmus seems to play everything i throw at it. but gstreamer doesn't seem to be working, and all i get are cryptic errors. when i start banshee from the command line, the only error i get is:
[Error 20:55:41.325] GStreamer stream error: Failed
and the music doesn't play. totem gives me a similar and equally useless error message. i have attempted to play both mp3 and m4a files, haven't tried ogg or any other formats. i have also tried compiling gstreamer0.10 from abs and installing from there, as i saw someone else claimed this helped. it obviously didn't work for me.
any ideas out there in the archosphere?

I had also some problems with totem and gstreamer. Totem wasn't playing any file. Searching for an anwser I came across the following link: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Codecs. The command "pacman -S gstreamer0.10-plugins" did the trick for me! Maby it helps for you.

I'd like to continue running an uplevel iceweasel ([http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Corporation_software_rebranded_by_the_Debian_project which is firefox]) but apparently need to run a downlevel version in order to run a particular vendor-supplied plugin. How best to do that (i.e., with minimal performance degradation, and without affecting my package management)? Or is there another way to solve the general problem (running the F5 Network Access Plugin)? Why I ask:
My employer is giving me remote access via a SecurID token and the F5 Network Access Plugin (F5NAP). The latter is in fact a browser plugin, which seems to me an odd way to implement a VPN, but it's the only offered option. Unfortunately,
* the only browsers supported for linux are Firefox 3 and Firefox 8 (per [http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_apm/manuals/product/apm_compatibility_matrix_10_2_1.html this]--scroll to "Linux Operating Systems")
* my primary laptop runs LMDE (see above) with Iceweasel 13 (from the mozilla.debian.net repository), which I want to keep. (It's the uplevel browser, dammit !-)
So I first tried to install the F5NAP on my iceweasel, hoping it was sufficiently like the listed versions. I browsed to my employer's site, logged in using the token, and followed the link to install the plugin. Unfortunately, that failed: the xpi began running, but then quit with the message

Hoping for a simple workaround, I told the often-useful User Agent Switcher plugin to emulate Firefox 8, but no fix. Hence it seems like I will hafta

The gnome-terminal tab from which I invoke the runner spews a bazillion "wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64" errors, but the plugin runs, and I can SSH normally (though more slowly) to servers on the VLAN from another terminal tab.

That generally indicates that the installer is getting damaged during the download.

[SOLVED]Wine 100% cpu usage in some games

I'm using wine for almost 2yrs now, only to play counterstrike which it runs flawlessly. I today installed nfs undercover and it seems that cpu usage is always 100%(due to nfs.exe). From the nvidia control center I can see that the gpu temp is really low from which I can guess that the gpu is underutilized and so the game runs sluggishly. As I dont game that much in wine, I'm asking u guys that Is it supposed to be like this? or are there any tweaks?

Generally it is though. What's a 'hardcore' game? I play HoN through wine (long story) and I know that big resource hog NWN2 ran just the same FPS in wine as on the windows install. Those are even DirectX games, the extra cost of DirectX->OpenGL conversion is offset by the fact that you don't have to run a virus scanner and all those junk apps a typical windows install needs.
IMO wine is made for games of all kind. Now if only it worked better with Office and the Adobe apps....

Problem1: How to make the operator aware of what a logical structure is currently doing/waiting for.
Suggested solution: Introduce a "Header" in all the structures, including a structure NAME and a structure INFO and TEXT (all of which may be entered in ASCII, or fed a value from inside).
Nested structures may feed values "outwards", overriding the previous text in this field.
Thus, accessing the header of the structure "NAME" and retrieving its "INFO" you may actually get the "NAME" of the last activated sub-structure, and so forth.
Benefits:
a) In the code, the header will serve to enforce further documenting the purpose of the structure. On the top of a case structure (for example) you will always see it's NAME (i.e. "Machine Supervision") and for each case you feed a separate INFO (i.e. "Overcurrent has Tripped") and a TEXT (i.e. "Check this or that and press GO to continue")
b) As each case is entered (or "continually"?) the header is made globally available to a "Header info vi" or directly to a front panel object. Thus, on the front panel the operator may easily track the actions of the program. (i.e. This program is currently doing "Machine Supervision". It is currently in state "Overcurrent has tripped". The programmer now advices you to "Check this or that and press GO to continue")
Problem2: What really happened when things went wrong? There are many ways to solve this general problem, however...
Suggested solution: I would like a special "Event Printer" front panel object. That is, a fifo register where info may be entered (from the "Header" above perhaps) and where the last few events may readily be displayed for the operator, much like a solid state event printer.
Benefits: Allows the operator a nice means to track the operation of the program. (and the programmer an easy way of accomplishing it). Example printout:

|09.03 > "Machine Supervision" |
|11.42 > > "Overcurrent has tripped"|
(I can think of many options here, such as a selectable fifo depth, how much should be visible, scrollable or not, printing up/down or left/right, etc. This way you can make anything from a simple "current action" field, up to a scrollable historical event database from now, back to when the program was started.
If you have a really elegant way of doing the same with current vi's, I would be interrested to learn how.

All this is functionality you can create coding your own VIs. It's nice that LabVIEW comes with in-built functions fro a lot of basic tasks..it even has a wealth of functions for very specific tasks...but you got to draw the line somewhere (and let third-party developers do the rest...).
Creating a functional global/que e.g. to hold the last status update from different processes and then read that status and display it on an indicator (or on the window status bar (using e.g. G Toolkit)) is straigtforward.
You can create a version of each structure with string constants or controls in the upper corner(s), fed into the functional global/que...save it in a VI that you put in the user.lib directory and then set the Merge VI option in the palette...you now have a
structure template with the header field and status que.

How to do web sharing windows xp to site on macbook?

I've created a website with iweb '08 on a macbook, 10.6.8. I've clicked on "web sharing" in system preferences. My ipad can access the website on the macbook, but my windows xp desktop can't open it but doesn't say "server not found" it opens a page about APACHE. Is the problem on the macbook or on the desktop? And how can the problem be solved? General Information: (a) All computers are in the same wireless home network. (b) The pc has never been able to reach shared documents on the macbook, but the macbook can access shared documents on the pc.

Your post was almost a year ago but whatever. It sounds to me like your pc is going to the library/webserver/documents folder to pick up your site. But your site is most likely in your sites folder under your profile. The addresses are different: 192.168.0.1 or whatever ending digit yours is and 192.168.0.1/~username, respectively. Yeah, there are two different website folders. You'll see the Apache index.html in the docs folder. Hey, at least you know "it works!"; now just replace the index doc and put your resources in there and you're hosting (port forward your router and it's on the internet for sure with your external IP as the address, otherwise it's just local). Also, you must not have file sharing between mac and windows (windows file sharing or smb protocol or something like that) enabled on the macbook; hence, no shared docs folder.

I have a problem with BEx.
Whenever I edit BEx Query Designer for creating or modifing Query, it takes time too long.
For instance, when I restrict value in Row or Columns, it need too much time.
Is there Tcode for checking this problem?
Or is there something way to solve it?

Can not Unzip oracle 11g zip file for x64

Hi,
I have downloaded oracle 11g file from (window 2008 server with x64)

File Name win64_11gR1_database_1013.zip
when i try to unzip this file I got an error like:

End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive.unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in win64_11gR1_database_1013.zip,and cannot find win64_11gR1_database_1013.zip.zip, period.
error indicates me towards two ways
1] File is invalid - I have downloaded same file twice
2] File is distributed in multiple files- site have only downloadable link
Can any one please help me to get out of it?

If you are really on Windows 2008, this file is wrong , you need
Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.7.0)
for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64
Of course that doesn't necessarily solve your general unzip problem, compare the size of the downloaded file with the size on the download site. If there's a difference,download is not complete for whatever reason.

The recent Safari update prevents me from logging in to my bank web site to do online banking. This is more than a bit unsettling. I am forced to use FireFox, which I would rather not do.

Generally speaking, the decision of which browsers can be used for e-banking is left to the discretion of the bank.

Control detail window from a list window?

Hi,
My customer's request is this:
From a (Easy)POWL list, the user should be able to display the details in another window by selecting a row in the list and clicking a "Detail" button. This detail window is indeed another WD application normally running alone, where the data can be maintained (Maintenance Application).
It should be in another window, because there are a lot of detail data. If it would be displayed in the same window via a detail view, the list would have to shrinked, but indeed, the list is more important.
The requirement is also that when the detail window has been launched, every subsequent row selection of the user (and perhaps clicking a "Detail" button) should be in the same detail window.
So far, I managed to get this detail window up and running, but for every subsequent selection, it spawns an additional window. I embedded the maintenance component in my list component and defined all usages...
I also defined the original context node START with the key and type of transaction mode (Display/Change) now as interface and Input Element (ext.), but now, when the Maintenance Application is started, it dumps with
"The Mapping to Node COMPONENTCONTROLLER.1.START Has Not Been Completed. ". When I uncheck the "Input Element (ext.)" box, it runs ok.
For this I found 3 other SDN threads, but none of them helped me, nor any any Google resource.
Can you help me with the last problem, or to solve the general problem how to "control" the contents in the detail application and window from the list component?

Since you are so set on the post-query method, do this:
Do NOT use a post-query. Just create one or more additional items in the same block that are assigned to a separate stacked canvas. Set these items singly-occurring (property Number-of-Items-Displayed = 1). Create a "Details" button in your block on the main canvas that user can click. All its WBP trigger needs to do is:
Go_Item('Blk.Detail_Item');
I don't think you even need a:
Show_View('Detail_Canvas');
On the stacked canvas, create a cancel button with a WBP trigger that does a Go_Item('Blk.<main-canvas-item>'). And make sure you cannot use the Tab or Enter key to navigate into the details canvas items (Set the appropriate Next-Navigation-Item properties).
The above method is certainly the easiest. However, if for some odd reason, you don't want to fetch all the details for every record during the initial query, then you can use a different method. This one involves the same stacked canvas and details button. But use a control block and one or more items to display the data. In the WBP trigger, Select detail_columns into :Control_Block.detail_item where rowid = :base_table_block.rowid; and then Go_Item('Control_block.detail_item'); Control_block.detail_item is of course displayed on the stacked canvas.

Best way to write a fall-through switch statement?

I am trying to write the equivalent of a C-style
switch statement. The attached VI has 2 ways of
accomplishing this. Is there a better way? What are
the pros/cons of the two ways shown in the VI?

I have no better way of doing this, but I'll give you my opinion as to the
readability and the maintainability.
Readability:
I find option 2 more readable, the entire code is laid out and easy to
see without cycling through cases. It is pretty easy to see what it does
and how it works. Option 1 requires a little more thinking to follow the
logic, but is not undecipherable.
Maintainability:
I would think that option 1 is much more maintainable. Simply add
another case to the case structure and you're ready to go. No rewiring, no
need to clear out more room on the diagram. Seems easy to me. Option 2 is
going to require a little more work, and if room is already scarce on the
diagram, adding another case structure may make wiring more
difficult.
Overall:
I'm not sure I see where I would incorporate this in my code right now,
but if the need arose, I would probably do something like Option 1.
