[Solved] GT70 Registers as GE70 / Used live update 5

Hello everyone!
So I have a GT70 notebook, and when I register it on the MSI website, the product name says: GE70 0ND.
The serial number says GT70-0NDXXXXX....
So my question is: is my GT70 a hidden GE70? Does it matter? Are they the same and do they have the same drivers?
Also, I have another question: I used Live Update 5 a while ago, but now I saw the disclaimer, saying that it's not for notebooks...:( What do I do? How do I get rid of the drivers? Also, is there something like Live Update for notebooks aswell?
Thanks in advance!

Hi 14Died14,
For the registration problem, think it's better to contact MSI and ask them to check of your registration.
    http://register.msi.com/
As you known Live Update 5 is not for notebook and the fastest way to uninstall all the drivers you installed by using live update is to do system reset and re-install all the drives. Sadly you'll have to download all the drivers and update them one by one. I'll strongly recommend you to re-install the drivers since there might be some unknown issues pops up if you're using the drivers from live update.
Which OS are you currently using?

  • HELP: Failure flashing BIOS using Live Update 5

    Hi,
I used Live Update 5 to download the latest BIOS version for my MB. Then when I was running the update, I chose "". (I know it's incorrect and I should have chosen the other one.) After the update, the machine restarted and showed a cursor blinking on the top left on a black screen, and it wouldn't proceed any more. I can enter the BIOS without a problem. I can also boot from CD or USB, but the windows on my machine simply wouldn't boot.
After the problem arose, I have tried flashing the BIOS with the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing tool on this forum. It tells me that  but the same problem remains.
    What should I do now?
Thanks for your time and consideration!

After any flash, the battery should be removed for awhile and the CMOS cleared. Reset all your BIOS menu settings again making sure the boot order etc. is correct and the proper mode is selected that your OS was installed under, i.e. IDE or AHCI mode.

  • Z87-G41 PC Mate used Live Update 5 to update BIOS now no POST

I downloaded MSI's Live Update 5 and stupidly had it update everything. I was away from my desk while it ran and I heard the sound making crazy noises and the screen was dark so I manually powered down. Now when I boot up it won't post and I get nothing on the screen. I've tried to reset CMOS and I've stripped it down to just cpu and 1 stick of ram. Still no joy.

sounds like the BIOS on the board is Bricked!
one thing you could try is to put a USB stick in a black port while when you power it on and see if its attempting to access it! (If it is its not fully bricked and you need to make a USB flash drive with the BIOS file (ROM) on it and it will attempt a recovery)
if its doesn't work then you have 2 options!
1: RMA the board to MSI to be flashed back into working order
2: Find a shop near you that does SPI flash updates and have them Directly flash the BIOS chip!
So when I put a thumb drive in the back with the ROM, I can't really tell if it's trying to access it or not (no activity lights). What happens when I turn on the comp is that it will power on (no beeps) and after about 8 seconds it will power off, then restart. I generally turn it off at that point. I'll try putting the USB stick in and letting it run. It sucks because I get no video (tried onboard and GPU) so I can't really tell what's going on. Thanks for the info. I've already emailed MSI support to get a head start but I'm hoping I won't need to wait on them. I need my computer up and running for my side business.

  • CAUTION : DO NOT USE LIVE UPDATE OR WINFLASH TO UPGRADE THE BIOS!

    Hello,
I've been having trouble with my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard a few weeks now.
My system configuration is not heavy at all and consists of
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra
    AMD64 Venice (E6) 3200+
    2 x 512Mb DDR400 Geil RAM 2.5-2-2-5 in dual channel configuration
    VGA ASUS 9600XT/128/TVD
    SB Audigy Value
    1 x HDD Maxtor 200GB 7200rpm
    1 x DVD-RW Pioneer 107D
    PSU Addtronics 420W (12V 18A)
    2 case fans 12cm
    2 USB devices (Joysticks)
    Here are the facts:
    1. The system was working great from mid-July until mid-September.
    2. I always close down the PSU power when turning off the computer at night (when I turn it off) in order to have come protection over our crappy power service.
    3. One morning, when trying to turn the PC on, I followed the normal procedure I did each time. PSU ON, waiting a few secs, Power button ON.
That morning, the PC did not boot.  The monitor still displayed 'No Signal' but I could hear the fans working.  I was ready to leave for work so I just shut it down to
investigate after work in the afternoon.
    4. To my surpice, and without doing anything at all, when I tried to turn it on that evening it fired up just fine!!!!
    5. A couple of days later, same thing. No boot, no post, no video signal.  This time I had the time so I started investigating:
Checking the D-Bracket at the back it was Red-Red-Red-Green, which I found out from the manual meant 'Initilization of VGA'... I thought my VGA just died,
so I shut down the PC, removed the power, took out the 9600XT and put in an older nVidia Ti4200 VGA I had spare.
    6. The system fired up normally!!!  Ok, I say... The VGA must be the problem.   Let's test it. I installed the 9600XT on another PC and it worked fine!
Oh... So it's not the VGA at fault!
    7. Once again I replaced the Ti4200 back to my prefered 9600XT.  Pushed the power... No good... No post, no boot, no video...
8 Replaced 9600XT with the Ti4200... Everything worked!.... I started to get worried. WHY doen't the ATI card works and the nVidia does ?
Consiracy theory immediately crossed my mind.
    9. I have spend more than a month to find the cause of this.  I posted to this forum for help, but best suggestion was to replace my PSU as not enough.
420W not enough for a bare minimum PC?  I mean.. Come on!?!?!?... I calculated with the proposed PSU calulator what I needed and I would be fine
even with a 350W PSU and 12A on the 12V rail!.  I had 18A... And some recommended to get a PSU with 30A on 12V !!!!!
That means that I had to spend another 150Euros to get a new PSU while it was not needed!??!  In brief.. yes.
The problem was elsewhere as I found out.
Searching and reading in this forum I found out that a lot of people have the same problem as I did.  Most of them indeed had weak PSUs and needed
more power.  But there were a few that should be fine.
What I found common to all those cases was that there was either an ATI Radeon VGA or an nVidia 6800 involved!
And in almost all the cases the user did a bios upgrade just before the problem started.
Well, that it!... the BIOS upgrade.  I tried to remember and finally did, that I started having these problems after I used the LiveUpdate function to update
the BIOS of the motherboard to 1.9 and once again to 1.b.   But both times I did it from within windows using the winflash utility and the default options.
It seems that the default options did not flash the whole bios.  They left out the boot section.  As a result the system booted ok with the nVidia Ti4200,
an older generation card, but NOT with the ATI 9600XT which was newer generation.
What I did is to reflash the bios using a startup floppy and following the instructions found here : https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=86257.0
After the setup boots etc, I powered down the PC, replaced once again the Ti4200 with the required 9600XT and the system power up and booted fine!
It's running rock stable since then (48hrs already), but I have yet to see if the problem will appear again, as it only happened from a cold boot and not
during a restart or anything.  I hope it will be ok.
So, I'm writting this as a warning.
Take caution and do not upgrade your BIOS from within windows. It's better to spend a couple more minutes to prepare a start up floppy and upgrade
from there, that to have problems later.

    George D.

Load your bios off the hardrive. <-------FAIL SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Not true.
File read operation can fail mid-flash. I agree this is safer that running the exe off a floppy, but it is not as safe as flashing from a RAMDrive (as per JayBee), which doesn't rely on a read from any media across any kind of BUS. Plus the RAMDrive needs no such partition on the HD so why bother with the hassle?
Flash from RAMDrive is not fail safe either of course but when run on a PC with a UPS that's about as safe as anyone can get.

  • MSI GT70 0NC-070NE problems with KLM and S-Bar after Live Update

    Hey there.
Last night i decided to update my laptop with the newest drivers, so i launched Live Update and got startet.
When it was done with all of the updates, and had rebooted, both S-Bar and KLM wouldn't start. I clicked the button to have windows try and fix it online, but it didn't help.
After that i tried to update them to the newest version, and that didn't help either.
Is this a know issue, or am i just unlucky? Can it maby be solved with installing Win8, as im doing that in a few days from now?

Make sure you have installed also NET Framework before you use KLM and S-Bar and I really don't recommend to use Live Update, if you want to update your drivers to the latest just go to the manufacurer's website in download section. Don't forget to choose your version of windows before downloading!

  • Live Update Killed Features...Again GT70 ONC

Ran Live Update 5 and stupidly allowed it to update drivers. Now I'm getting no response from KLM (keyboard is dark and utility will not run), S-Bar crashes on start up/launch, and MSI Suite "only supports MSI MotherBoard".
Unlike last time when I could go to the product webpage and restore these services, I get errors on install or they remain unresponsive.

    Don't use live update.
I suppose you are using Win7 if you have S-Bar then install latest .Net Frameworks and then latest S-Bar.
If you have Windows8 you need SCM instead.
For Win7 you need this KLM version, for Win8 this KLM version
Best to uninstall the current first and then install the linked. Forget about MSI Suite.

  • MSI Live Update is not working

When i use MSI Live Update to check for BIOS or other things, it gives me a page not found thing.  I can use internet though.  How can i solve it?

    Hi
Try downloading Live update from the download page of this site, it is the latest version.  You will see it under VGA - Utilities.  It should load and install without problem, save it to a folder for use next time you re install.

  • New VIA Drivers and Live-Update

I noticed the latest VIA drivers are not yet available for download using MSI's Live Update prgram. Is it ok to download them seperately from the official VIA site? Or should I just wait for the Live Updater to get them?
    Just Wondering...

     :D
I only used Live Update for a limited time ... mostly because there was too much time between launching an new driver and the driver becoming available through Live Update. The VIA drivers are available for more than a week, I think.

  • Live Update Download Error

Whenever I use Live Update and go to install a new download it fails.  As it downloads, the counter goes from 0 - 99 and when it reaches 99 it comes up with Error Code:0.  , and stops the download/install.
I have tried this for a number of different driver updates, but all the same.  I connect via a proxy server, and don't know if this is a problem, but as it starts downloading it should at least continue and finish the download.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the Live Update software but it still comes up with the error.
    Any help appreciated.

  • DR8-A2 not recognised following Live Update

    Hi,
Having ruled out a motherboard problem (thank goodness), it seems that my DR8-A2 DVD drive is the cause of my system hanging at POST whilst detecting IDE drives.
Whilst in Windows (XP Pro), reconnecting the power to this drive causes the system to hang until I disconnect the drive's power.
Just prior to all of this happening, I had updated the firmware using Live Update 3 to see if this would cure a problem with the drive not always 'seeing' a CD unless it was reinserted a couple of times.  Now that I cannot boot with the drive attached, is there anyway to try to reflash it back to life?
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Patrick

Well it just happened to me aswell, ran live update and now the system doesnt recognise it at bios level, like you said the system just hangs at post unless i cancel the detect, but if i continue to load windows xp in safe mode the system will boot, but obviously without the dvd writer... but loading windows in normal mode it just hangs or crashes as soon as i click the mouse...
now if the drive isntr recognised at bios level how the hell can i flash it back etc...
i think they screwed up on this firmware release now i have a dead drive

  • FM2-A85XMA-P33 live update issues

    Hello,
I am running win7 and after doing the live update the system wont boot anymore.
First it starts up and then i cant do anything at all.
The srceen goes blanc and i can shut off or reset the PC with the power/reset buttons and have to cut the power to shut it down.
I`ve tried it a few times but everytime the same result.
If i dont do the live update its running like it should.
Other thing is that if i try to install Win 8 or Win 8.1 the same thing happens..
If i enable the win8 feature in the BIOS i only get the shell if i restart the pc and cant install Win8.
    Maybe a partition issue.
    Any ideas?
    Vincent

Stop using Live Update! It likes to brick boards.

    I have questions:
1º How can i update the BIOS? Do i have to download some stuffs and copy&paste to a flash drive?
2º I didn't update BIOS yet, what shall i do? Install the stuff that comes in the motherboard CD and later download everyting one by one from the motherboard website?
3º I saw that on the download drivers from the motherboard website that there was a Intel USB 3.0 driver to download, but its only compatible to Win7 and i have W8.1, what shall i do? Answer
4º Do my CPU needs drivers and where can i get them?
    I have the Intel i7 4770
4.1º Shall i download the integrated graphics drivers that comes with the CPU?
4.2º Is the HD 4600 Graphics used?

My advice? DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR USE LIVE UPDATE! For flashing BIOS, use the forum's USB flash method. For drivers, download them from the MSI Website for your mainboard and install them manually.
As mentioned by the previous poster, I do believe that is true. Win 8.1 has the USB 3.0 drivers.
    [cant post links]forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=169827.0
    [cant post links]msi.com/product/mb/Z87GD65_GAMING.html#download
    I have a few questions:
Why should i use that method? Is it better? And it says "Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc", after i update the bios can i just turn the settings on again?
I have a problem write now with my USB 3.0 Ports, PS: My bios is outdated, i just wanna know if i upgrade the drivers it will be better, because when i have the 2 USB 3.0 conected (that come with my case) the motherboard usb 3.0 are like cancelled, and nothing that i insert there will work.
Eg: If i connect 2 ports on the motherboard USB 3.0 and if i connect 2 ports of the case, only 2 of the case will work, if i connect 2 on the case and next to the motherboard, only 2 of the motherboard will work
