[SOLVED] Headphone keep producing noises after update
I executed "pacman -Syu" yesterday. And after update my headphone isn't turned on automatically. I had install alsamixer and unmute it manually, but the problem is the headphone keeps producing annoying noises. It never happened before the update. I have win***s installed and got no problem with it.
Don't know what to do here. I've been using linux (mandriva, opensuse, fedora, slackware, and mostly ubuntu) for 5 years, but haven't been working with arch until a month ago, so you probably underestand my situation.
Thank for the cooperation..

and one more thing, when booting up i noticed that when udev was starting, there was a slight click sound coming from my headphones twice. I assume that was a sign that the headphone was turned on and turned off again when udev was starting, so maybe it was udev problem, i think.

my ipad 3 keeps on rebooting after updated to ios 7.1.2. what shd i do?? how to resolve the issue??
The first thing that I would try is a reset.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
IF that doesn't stop the rebooting, you should restore the iOS Software. Read this carefully and read to all the way through before proceeding.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
At the very end of the article under "additional information" there is a link to recovery mode. You might need to use that if you cannot restore in the conventional manner. -
Iphone 4 keeps on hanging after updating to iOS 5.0 and later to iOS 5.1
My iphone 4 keeps on hanging after updating to iOS 5.0. I can no longer make and receive calls. If I am successful in making a call, it will never end even after pressing stop. The problem still persists even after updating to iOS 5.1. How do I resolve this problem?
Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

My Ipad 1 keeps on crashing After updating to OS 5.1.
I have actually cancelled all the services on my Ipad and stripped it down to the bear necessary. Even deleting halve of my apps and keeping only the apps I use every day. Still no success. No more Icloud either.
I also installed a 'system monitor' program. This showed that my CPU is at 100% at all time. A good solution seemed to reinstall the remaining apps and do a complete sync. Still no success.
the only thing that seems to work is shutting down my Wifi connection. This, of course, makes my Ipad a very expensive, useless peace of technology. I must conclude that the reason for all this trouble is the update to 5.1; Reason why I think this, is that I have another Ipad that is exactly the same (same apps, same services) with the only difference that I didn't update to 5.1. That one works perfectly (although a bit slow after update to 5.0)
What is also EXTREMELY annoying is that, when I call to the Apple so called helpdesk I get no help what so ever. It took them about 10 minutes to be able to spell my name right and registering the serial number. After that they politely told me to pay 35€ or to look for the solution myself on the support communities. Apparently that is what they do also. (????)
Having looked on the support community, I can find no contributions from Apple themselves. So basic strategy is: "Apples users, solve your sh*t amongs yourselves, we can't be bothered."
Best solution for your problem is to throw your Ipad in the bin and buy an Ipad 3. Guess what: I am going to look elsewhere, and going from what I read on the different message boards, so will many others.Hello, having the same problem: iPad 2, WIFI (+ 3G no SIMM instlled) with iOS 5.1:
I am not using that many apps, but those I do close automatically after some minutes of working with. This is the case in several WIFI-networks. If I set WIFI off, all close-problems disappear, however needless to say as Diether states "useless peace of technology" when no WIFI connections can be made.
I am getting frustrated as I just turned to go for a paperless office ...
Hope somebody finds a solution ... and yes frustrating that apple is giving bad / no support on this. -

[Solved] gdm-x-session segfault after update to gdm-3.16.0.1-1
After
updating to gdm-3.16.0.1-1, when starting a GNOME session with i3 as
window manager (using i3-gnome from the AUR) gdm-x-session crashes with
error:
$ dmesg
[ 75.134600] gdm-x-session[642]: segfault at 38 ip 0000000000405ae9 sp
00007ffc1aff1430 error 4 in gdm-x-session[400000+11000]
I am able to start all other sessions: GNOME shell, GNOME on Wayland,
only i3.
My system is up-to-date.
Could some one instruct me on how to further debug this error?
EDIT: It was easier to avoid i3-gnome completely and start gnome-setting-daemon from ~.i3/conf. I am still struggling with the keyring, but other than that everything else is working as intended.
Last edited by gjasso (2015-04-15 00:55:55)Thanks for the hint, inxsible, downgrading to JRE 1.6 solved it.
For the sake of others who might run into the same problem: I downloaded jre-6u26-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz from the Arch Rollback Machine, installed it (
pacman -U jre-6u26-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
) and added
jre
to the
IgnorePkg
line in
/etc/pacman.conf
so it won't get replaced in the next update.
After doing that, Eclipse suffered PermGen Out-of-memory-errors. Adding
-XX:MaxPermSize=128M
to
/usr/share/eclipse/eclipse.ini
fixed that and now m2e installs fine. -
[solved] gnome-shell bad looking after update
Hi,
After update (about two weeks ago) my gnome looks bad. You can see this in screenshots. Very large icons and strange rectangles in gnome shell menu on started applications.
Can you help?

Hi
Desktop icons: open Files (nautilus) and change default zoom level for icons from standard to small (preferences - views).
Rectangles: this is how running applications are displayed in the default theme. If those rectangles bother you too much, the easiest way is to change theme. For example, ceti-2 and vertex are already ported to 3.16.
It works. Thanks for help. -
Macbookpro5,5 has a noise after update?
was curious if other mbp users noticed a noise? i hadn't had it before, but after doing a large update i noticed it and it is driving me mad. it is like a pulsating, high pitched buzz originating near the fan area.
the noise goes away if i do something like play a flash video or whatever. anyone have any ideas what caused it and what i can do to remove it?i've only been using the default power management stuff. i had installed cpufreq-utils, sensors, and laptop-mode, but whether i load those or not, the sound persists.
the upgrade was from kernels 2.6.34 to 36, but after downgrading it didn't seem to matter. i upgraded like 200 something packages and didn't try downgrading them all. i'll probably try to downgrade them all this weekend and go through them one by one and see if anything changes (but i really don't want to do that).
until then, running glxgears in the background keeps it busy enough so i don't have to hear any whining.
edit: oh, and no errors i found in the logs.

Solved rEFInd does not work after update
Hello.
Today, I updated rEFInd with yaourt.
After the update, I copied the new files in /boot/efi.
I rebooted and now rEFInd does not work.
The only message I got is:
rEFInd - Initializing
After 2-3 minutes, the computer reboots and I got the same error message.
To boot, I had to use the UEFI shell.
First of all, is there a log file for rEFInd?
It is not easy at all to debug it when we don't have any error messages.
After that, I did the procedure to install rEFInd in /boot/efi twice without any success.
Do you know what to do to solve my problem?
Thanks for your help.

[SOLVED] luks-passphrase not working after update
SOLVED: Hard drive was damaged. new hard drive ''fixed'' issue
Hello,
i updated my arch on 2015-06-05. After restarting my cryptsetup does not accept my password anymore.
No key available with this passphrase.
Searching the forum i found a couple of simular topics, nevertheless none of them offered a solution to the problem:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=169408
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=175737
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=148562
So the solutions that did not work so far:
1. Downgrading cryptsetup package
2. Downgrading kbd package
3. Checked that my keyboard works just fine (both in grub and in live system)
4. Manualy loading the aes modules in live system to ensure correct decryption (found that issue somewhere...)
Unfortunatly i did not backup the luks header file.
So i don't know if there is some other way to check if the header is broken or how to find out why it will not decrypt my disk.
I am happy for any solutions or ideas
Regards,

Gives me the master key for the decrypted partition (denoted as forum_key_kex).
Do i need to convert this to binary or something to use it...?
Assume Filesystem/dev_sda2 is the partition to decrypt.
So to decrypt the partition directly with master key i have to do one of the following, wasn't sure which hash to take...:
echo "0 `blockdev --getsz Filesystem/dev_sda2` crypt aes-cbc-essiv:sha256 `echo SomeEncrypt | sha256sum | head -c 64` 0 Filesystem/dev_sda2 4096" | dmsetup create luks_volume
echo "0 `blockdev --getsz Filesystem/dev_sda2` crypt aes-cbc-essiv:sha256 `sha256sum forum_key_hex | head -c 64` 0 Filesystem/dev_sda2 4096" | dmsetup create luks_volume
as i found on:
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions … master-key
(approved by you in the comment as it seems)
But both give me an error:
device-mapper: resume ioctl on luks_volume failed: Invalid argument
Command failed
Did i even do this right?
Also when i copied the partition to an external device dd_rescue observed 6 errors in blocks. So those might just be the cause of failure all the time. -
Superdrive making noise after update
I just updated to the new Mac OS X for my MBP mid-2012. It never made this sound when it booted up. Everytime I boot up the computer, the superdrive makes has a noise that sounds like I inserted a cd. It didn't happen before I upgrade. Do I need to change my settings, is there an upgrade for this upgrade, or did something get screwed up during the upgrade?
Update:
I took my laptop to the nearest Apple store. The person I spoke opened it up and said the fan was a bit dusty and he cleaned it, and it was making less noise. He also said noise from the harddrive at startup was normal.
However, it really is making as much noise as it did before, so I'm skeptical that it's "normal". I suppose the most I can do now is keep diligent backups. -
IPad keeps rebooting itself after updating to iOS 8.3
Just updated an iPad 3 to iOS 8.3 from iOS 8.2 . Update took a while to install (over 20 minutes) and then the Apple logo appeared for a bit then the screen went black for about 10 minutes. The device was fine for a while and then started rebooting itself, hung on the Apple logo for about 10 minutes and now suddenly it came back. All apps were up to date. The device had not had any issues prior to the update. Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks! No, this is definitely an iOS 8.3 bug, Allen. I have an iPad mini (original, 24/12 old) and an iPhone 5 (not S, 18/12 old). Updated both from 8.2 to 8.3. I keep them and the apps up to date and run a tight ship.
Since the update, the iPhone has been behaving normally.
However, starting immediately after the update, the iPad has been rebooting: when you plug it into the power and it goes to sleep, it reboots itself. This NEVER ONCE happened before the 8.3 update -- and I think I started with this iPad on iOS5 or at least 6, with all the updates inbetween. If you want to use it again shortly after plugging it in, you have to wait about five-ten minutes (as other have reported). So far, it has always rebooted successfully. But you do have to put in your passcode in response to "you have to enter your passcode upon rebooting" message; and tell it to trust your current computer connect once again.
It just now rebooted itself once again when plugged into the computer USB port, while in the middle of a sync (the screen went to sleep). Not happy about that; potential to damage data.
I confirm: this NEVER happened before 8.3, and it now reliably happens EVERY TIME I plug the iPad into power and it goes to sleep. I have three power sources (computer USB, individual Apple charger, aftermarket reserve battery charter) and it happens with all of them.
As far as I can tell, it only reboots itself once per charger-plugin, and doesn't do so again until you unplug it and plug it back in again (somewhat confident, but not 100% sure, of that).
Hope that helps. The bug needs squashing, and soon. -
[SOLVED] HP jetdirect printer errors after updating net-snmp
My office's HP printers weren't working anymore this morning, my cups log showed the following errors after a pacman -Syu.
It looks that libnetsnmp.so.25 is required by hplip 3.11.10-1, but the latest net-snmp 5.7.1-1 provides libnetsnmp.so.30.

[14:29]:sudo pacman -Q | grep net-snmp
net-snmp 5.6.1-4
[14:30]:sudo pacman -Qo /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp
/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp is owned by hplip 3.11.5-1
solution is to downgrade net-snmp:
[2011-10-08 21:56] upgraded net-snmp (5.6.1-4 -> 5.7.1-1)
[2011-10-31 14:24] Running 'pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/net-snmp-5.6.1-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz'
[2011-10-31 14:24] upgraded net-snmp (5.7.1-1 -> 5.6.1-4)
this might help someone else,Hi groberts619,
Unfortunately the software you obtain from the Printer Software Update doesn't include the HP Scan application - only the print and scan drivers. I just checked on your product and it doesn't appear that there are plans to release an updated HP Scan installer for this model.
On Mavericks it seems your best option will be to use Apple's Image Capture scan application. You can find this application in the /Applications folder. You also have the option to scan using Preview. Look in the File menu for the command to import from a scanner.

[Solved]Steam - OpenGL GLX problem after update
When I open steam it gives me this prompt:
"OpenGL GLX context is not using direct rendering, which may cause performance problems.
For more information visit https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9938-EYZB-7457."
I had this problem before, but I solved it with this command:
rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1
rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1
rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1
But now after newest update, nothing solves this problem. And also I can do nothing about steam updates, beacause steam updates itself. I am using mesa-git drivers for AMD. Everything was working fine before the latest update. The command I shown to you doesn't help now. Steam now launches itself, but all 3D games crash on startup. The output of command glxinfo|grep rendering is direct rendering: yes.

libGL error: unable to load driver: r600_dri.so
libGL error: driver pointer missing
libGL error: failed to load driver: r600
libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
Those libraries are in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri , both mesa-git 66716 and mesa-dri 10.3.5 symlink them to the r300_dri.so lib in the same folder.
( this is intentional due to recent changes in mesa).
To verify whether you have an OpenGL problem or a steam problem, try running native opengl applications like Xonotic or Oolite (both are in repos) .
