[solved] Hiding certain .desktop files in the XFCE menu?

Is there a way to hide .desktop menu entries in the XFCE menu without removing them from the system?
For example, there is an entry called "Recording Level Monitor" after installing some gnome dependencies for rhythmbox.  It's a useless app to me and I'd like to have it hidden for good.  I suppose I could delete the .desktop file, and I wouldn't hesitate to do so, but I have the feeling it'll keep coming back on -Syu's.

That's what I ended up doing.  Works fine for now   Thanks!

  • Problems with the "Xfce Menu"[SOLVED]

    I was changing settings for the xfce menu and I created a copy of the ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml file.
    I may also have set it to use a custom menu file.
    I right click on the menu and click properties. The window doesn't open, and the right click menu won' t appear for the rest of the session. If I add  a new menu, it will work until I delete the old one.

  • Is it possible to check the previous backups on a certain backup file for the iPhone.

    Is it possible to check the previous backups on a certain backup file for the iPhone. I need to backup and restore the files which were used in the second week of January, but now I am only able to see the latest iteration of the backup. I am assuming that the iPhone backup rewrites on the same set of files. I may be mistaken. Is there any work around to see the old backups? Any kind of help would be seriously appreciated.

  • [SOLVED] KDE, Certain Desktop Effects require OpenGL but can't set it

    Certain desktop effects give me an error when enabled (or rather when I try to enable them) saying that they require OpenGL.
    I changed the Compositing type to OpenGL and the Qt graphics system to Raster (also tried with the default Native), and I get an error saying that it Failed to activate desktop effects given configuration options.
    How can I enable OpenGL and get it all working properly?

    What's you graphics card and drivers? You can have working openGL but your card can be to old to support all the extension required by particular effect. Other effects are working ok and just couple of them are giving error, right? If so it's ok.
    Also paste output of glxinfo | grep -i render

  • Hiding my desktop files

    Is it possible to have all of my desktop files in one of the stacks instead of the actual desktop itself to keep the desktop clean?

    Just put the files in a folder in your home folder and put that folder in the Dock. For instance, open your home folder, create a new folder called something like "CurrentStuff" and drag "CurrentStuff" into the Dock, on the Stacks side of the divider. Any new things you add to the Desktop, drag them to that folder.

    No, that was just to confirm that they don't have an incompatibility, and they passed the test.

    If you know where they are, just drag the whole folder into the main iTunes window (or use File > Add Folder to Library) and they should all add.
    To the original problem, were these tracks imported by iTunes from audio CD?

  • How do I activate an HTML file from the tools menu?

    I understand how to add a custom entry to the TestStand 4.0 Sequence editor using the TOOLS->CUSTOMIZE... menu selection, but I want to:
    1) Activate an HTML page when the TOOLS menu option is selected
    and
    2) Provide the directory of the current sequence file to the HTML
    and
    3) Disable this new menu selection if the current sequence file has not been saved.

    Thanks for the clarification of your suggestion.  I have created a sequence with a single step: "Call Executable".  In the Executable Pathname field I have specified iexplorer.exe.  When I specify a specific HTML page in the Argument Expression field (i.e., "D:\Test.html") the sequence runs fine and properly activates IE showing the specified HTML file.  If I just specify a directory in the Argument Expression field (i.e., "D:\Foo\Bar") the sequence runs fine and properly activates IE showing the specified directory.
    However, when I put RunState.InitialSelection.SelectedFile.Path into the Argument Expression field, it doesn't show the directory.  Do I have to do something special in order to get RunState.InitialSelection.SelectedFile.Path properly interpreted when the sequence is executed?

  • Launching deluge from the .desktop file uses the sbin symlink... why?

    Can someone explain the following?  Launching deluge-gtk from the package provided deluge.desktop under lxde causes both deluge-gtk and deluged to run from the sbin symlink.  You can see it by a simple:
    % ps aux | grep deluge
    /usr/bin/python2 /usr/sbin/deluge-gtk
    /usr/bin/python2 /usr/sbin/deluged
    In contrast, launching deluge-gtk from a shell (i.e. simply typing `deluge-gtk`) causes the expected /usr/bin/deluged and /usr/bin/deluge-gtk as viewed from the ps command.
    % ps aux | grep deluge
    /usr/bin/python2 /usr/bin/deluge-gtk
    /usr/bin/python2 /usr/bin/deluged
    If I modify /usr/share/applications/deluge.desktop using the fully qualified paths for the "TryExec=" and "Exec=" entries, deluge-gtk shows up as /usr/bin/deluge-gtk as it should, but the backend daemon, deluged, still shows up as /usr/sbin/deluged if I don't manually start it from the shell:
    % ps aux | grep deluge
    /usr/bin/python2 /usr/bin/deluge-gtk
    /usr/bin/python2 /usr/sbin/deluged

    After doing some more investigating, I have found that this only happens with the latest version of Java (1.6 update 2). What it is doing is loading the jnlp file that is located as the href link in the jnlp file that is launched. In other words, say you have two jnlp files; jnlp_a and jnlp_b. Say the href link inside jnlp_a points to the jnlp_b file. So the href line in the jnlp_a file would look like this 'href = "jnlp_b"'. In the latest version of Java, if you launch the jnlp_a file from a browser, Java Web Start will acutally load the jnlp_b file instead of the jnlp_a file that was launched. Should it be doing this? With the previous versions, JWS would read the href line and save this jnlp in the cache to be launched if the user creates a desktop shortcut. But it would still load the actual jnlp file that launched. Is this a bug in version 1.6 update 2?

  • How would I set the LabVIEW Execution Display.vi to automatically run a sequence from a desktop icon or the Start Menu Launcher.vi

    LabVIEW does not support command line arguments. Are there some modifications to the Execution Display.vi that would enable this behavior?

    Hi,
    This mods is to the LabVIEW OI supplied with TS2.0.1 and labVIEW 6.1
    In the TestStand - Runtime Operator Interface.vi, the cmdline is obtained and the full path to the sequence file is stored in a global variable. When the Sequence Display is launched and the case First Time is executed. The cmd line global is checked for an empty string, if its not then the string is concatated with the string 'Open Sequence File - No Prompt|' and put on the message queue. This will result in the sequence file being opened.
    The cmd line parsing is pretty basic. the argument is nothing or the full pathname to the sequence file.
    If this is what you are after then send your email to [email protected]
    I tried to attach the vi's but I am having some problems with thi
    s. Probably a size restriction.
    Hope this helps.

  • [SOLVED] How to Add Items in the Awesome Menu?

    I hate to ask, but I've gotta say I've read the manuals extensively, and can't figure out certain things in awesome... I want to purchase a lua programming manual to have around, but in the meantime... I'm hoping one of you guys can throw me a bone here and help me figure out this one thing...
    I've added firefox to my awesome menu so now it's like awesome > open terminal > firefox. However, nothing happens when I select firefox, and here's my code:
    -- {{{ Menu
    -- Create a launcher widget and a main menu
    myawesomemenu = {
       { "manual", terminal .. " -e man awesome" },
       { "edit config", editor_cmd .. " " .. awesome.conffile },
       { "restart", awesome.restart },
       { "quit", awesome.quit }
    mymainmenu = awful.menu({ items = { { "awesome", myawesomemenu, beautiful.awesome_icon },
                                    { "open terminal", terminal },
                    { "firefox", awful.util.getdir("config") .. "/firefox.png" }
    mylauncher = awful.widget.launcher({ image = beautiful.awesome_icon,
                                         menu = mymainmenu })
    -- Menubar configuration
    menubar.utils.terminal = terminal -- Set the terminal for applications that require it
    Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

    The syntax for adding a menu item to awesome goes like this:
    mywebmenu = {
    {" Chromium", "chromium-browser", beautiful.chromium_icon},
    {" Dropbox", "dropbox", beautiful.dropbox_icon}
    or
    mysettingsmenu = {
    {" WICD", "urxvt -x wicd-curses", beautiful.wicd_icon}
    As you can see, the first item in the list is the name of the menu item, the second is the command to be run, and the third is the icon to be displayed. If there's no third field, no icon is displayed.
    Your code for adding firefox to your menu will correctly show "firefox" as the menu name being displayed, since that's the first field you added, but will attempt to execute "awful.util.getdir("config") .. "/firefox.png"  when you click the menu item, since that's what you provided as the second argument. Since that's not an executable command, nothing happens.
    Since the "awful.util..." bit seems to be you trying to get the proper icon for firefox, I suggest adding an element to the list between the two you already have that is just "firefox". This will ensure that when you click on "firefox" in your menu, the command that is run is "firefox", which should launch your browser.
