[SOLVED] How to add keyboard shortcuts in XFCE?

I'm giving XFCE a try lately after all of the changes I'm seeing, I'm trying to add a new shortcut to ease some tasks but I don't have a clue on how to do it.
I go to Settings -> Keyboard and there to "Application shortcuts". Then I select to add a new one and point to the script I want to run, but I don't have a clue on how to select the shortcut. I've tried pressing the keys I want to bind, but no way.

It is the next screen Pick the command, click OK. It then throws up a box telling you to press the key combination. It will show as you push meta, shift and control modifiers. When you hit a character that generates a keystroke, it saves it, along with the modifiers.

Why can't I add keyboard shortcuts for Adobe GoLive 9?

Since the demise of Unsanity's Menu Master on Leopard, I've been taking the more tedious (and problematic) route of using System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts to add and modify keyboard shortcuts for menu actions.
I just tried to add my first shortcut to Adobe GoLive 9, which resulted in this uninformative error dialog:
"You cannot add keyboard shortcuts for the application Adobe GoLive 9."
Why? (The only real problem I've had with the previous 11 applications is ambiguous menu items, i.e., the same menu action name in more than one menu sub-action.)
(I'm now resorting to an even more tedious shortcut technique - QuicKeys X3. QuicKeys is great, but it's overkill for a simple keyboard shortcut.)

I've found another:

[SOLVED] xfce4 application specific keyboard shortcuts

Hi All,
I remember being able to directly change a menu shortcut with xfce, although I could be mis-remembering. I want to bind 'Send Now' in Thunderbird to Ctrl+Shift+d (or just Ctrl+D I guess), because that is what I am used to. I don't think I can do this in the xfce keyboard global keyboard shortcuts, those just launch apps from the command line, and I don't think I can use the window manager shortcuts either, although I may be wrong. I remember just highlighting a menu item and choosing a key combination, and that that just worked... but I can't find it anywhere now. Is it maybe a different window manager?
I am using xfce4 with xfwm4 4.10.1-1. I have compositing switched on. Let me know if there is any other info you need about my setup, I am honestly not sure which parts of the desktop environment/window manager/application settings/kernel (probably nothing to do with the kernel) are involved here, so I am not sure what info to give.

Yup, that's it: editable menu Appearance->Settings. Sadly it doesn't work in Thunderbird. Thanks though!
The solution in Thunderbird is the keyconfig extension. I found the help page at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyconfig_ext … hunderbird and figured out the solution:
1. Install keyconfig
2. Navigate to keyconfig Preferences
3. Click 'Add a new key' at the bottom left
4. Name the key anything, I chose 'key_send' as that is the name of the key
5. Replace /* CODE */ with goDoCommand("cmd_sendNow") and click 'OK'
6. Assign a hotkey and click 'Apply'
7. Restart Thunderbird
8. You're done!
That worked for me. Hopefully this helps someone else one day.

How to change keyboard shortcut for cycle through open tabs in PS and AI CC 2014

I would love to set my own keyboard shortcuts for cycling through open tabs in PS and AI 2014 on OS X. I found out that this can be achieved with ctrl+tab in PS, but I couldn't manage to make any of the suggestions in the forum work for AI. As said, I would like to set a more "standard" shortcut like alt+cmd+arrow-keys for both of the apps. If that shouldn't be possible, does anyone know a shortcut in AI CC 2014?

Thanks! The shortcut can be set like this in AI, although all key combinations I would want to use are not allowed. Too bad. But anyways, thank you very much for the tip!
cmd+~ is not an option for me, I guess, since the swiss/german keyboard layout has no dedicated tilde key.
So, I have a working shortcut in PS (ctrl+tab / of which I still don't know how to change, if possible at all) and thanks to you, I can now set one in AI as well. Unfortunately, I can not set it to be identical as in PS, since the "cmd" key needs to be included in AI's shortcut assignment dialogue, but I guess, this is as good as it gets.

Reason enough IMO. But anyway... you refer to the Traditional build method in the wiki, but is it possible you didn't really read it? Or maybe you only skimmed it? Did you run make menuconfig? Did you try to build everything in instead of using modules? That mkinitcpio output suggests that you did.
As suggested there for first-timers, it's a good idea to start with a kernel configuration that is known to work - the Arch config is the obvious choice, but there are other sources e.g. http://kernel-seeds.org/ .

How to enable keyboard shortcuts for configuration entry point?

Hello All,
In my process model, I have a configuration entry point sequence (sequence). I can able to select the corresponding entry from the menu bar ie. configure --> options (for eg). Now I need to have a keyboard shortcut for the same. In my case if I press (for eg) ctrl+w, the configuration entry point sequence must be called.
Note - I have to do this using .NET programmatically.
Is there any way I can incorporate this mechanism...?

Hello Arun,
At this time there is not anyway to customize the keyboard shortcut keys for menu items you add to the TestStand sequence editor. R&D is looking into implementing this in a future version of TestStand. I'll pass along your feedback to them, and let them know there are others interrested in this feature.

There's no calendar control per-se, but you have an option - create an HTML image-map prompt - that should work....the only problem would be making it dynamic, but I'm sure you can create a big image map

How to disable keyboard shortcut for Type-And-Transfer

Hi,
I'm trying to create a macro in Excel that I want to use the ctrl+shft+h keyboard shortcut. However, Lenovo's Type-and-Transfer tool has hijacked that shortcut so everytime I try to use the shortcut within Excel it launches the Type-and-Transfer tool. I've looked everywhere and cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to disable this keyboard shortcut from launching the Type-and-Transfer tool. Anybody have any idea?

<sorry as I don't havea system with this shortcut type I cannot find the exact same key combination>
My second thought is going more in the direction of an application, that is called Keyboard Customizer
Try this one, if that will fit your request.

How to add keyboard interaction?

I got 16 different buttons in this application, each button playing different kind of sound. Currently i only able to use mouse click to start playing sound, and click again to stop, but now i wish to add shortcut key to access those track buttons, like pressing "q" for track 1, "w" for track 2. Pressing "q" for the first time will start the sound and animation, press again will stop the sound and animation. Actually i just want to addEventListener to the keyDown and define the keyDown function, even i use trace it also doesn't show up anything, that mean the keyCode == 81 is actually not working, do you have any idea or other way to make sure the keyCode is working?

If the control is a button you will need to make sure that it is an html button so that you can modify the attributes.

I don't know how dangerous this is, but I have just customized two keyboard shortcuts in LR2 for use with a Swedish keyboard.
I did not invent this, I was taught by someone else on this forum, I'm sorry I don't remember who.
What I did was create a file called TranslatedStrings.txt in the folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2\Resources\en\
The content of this file is:

This makes Ctrl+. zoom in on pictures and Ctrl+Shift+. toggle between showing and hiding the library filter bar.
So far it seems to function. This copies the way LR is translated to French and German. But I would very much like some input from Adobe on what can be done without danger. Maybe also a list of all shortcuts so we could do this ourselves without compromising anything.

I believe it should be:

The character "&" after "=" on line 1. But it seems to function like you wrote it too.
I tried changeing "&Before only" into "&Före enbart", which translated the menu into Swedish, but the letter ö looked strange.

How to do keyboard shortcuts to an external program?

i'm developing a program in labview that reads files created from an external program (an usb oscilloscope interface) and analyzes them.
That problems is that I need to start manually, before, the acquisition of data on the oscilloscope interface and than I have to start the labview program; that's not really elegant and efficient, so I whish to know if it's possibile to let my labview program open the oscilloscope interface and tell to it to start the acquisition.
Now, the exec subvi let me start the program, but I dont know how to start the acquisition.
With the oscilloscope interface as active window I can start the acquisition with the keyboard shortcuts ctrl-t ctr-g. Is it possible to let the program send to windows the request of execute those keyboard shortcuts on the active window?
The oscilloscope doesnt have any ActiveX interface.

You can use the VI posted in this reply to send keys. Note that this sends the keystrokes to the window that is active. This means you have to first activate the window. To do this you can use the Windows API utilities found here. Specifically, use "ShowWindow".
