[SOLVED] How to clean things up?

Since I'm quite new to Arch, I must've installed a dozen packages which I don't need and only take space. Is there some sort of way to detect everything that isnt used? Since a lot of packaged depend on other packages before they can run properly I can't just delete stuff. Or would the best way be to just start over since I now how more knowledge of what I want and how to get it?

  • How to Clean Ink Stains on HP 3050 All-in-One J610 series

    Hello -
I have an HP Deskjet 3050 All-in-One J610 series printer.  I am a Mac User and am getting notifications with each document I print that I need to "Clean Ink Stains on Printer".  I have put brand new black and tricolor HP ink cartridges, but I am still getting some faded streaks in the documents I print.  I think the "ink stains" are specifically on the printer and not related to the ink cartridges, since I have put new ones in and the situation has not been resolved.
Do you have a video or step by step instructions on how to clean these ink stains on the printer so I no longer have faded sections when I print?  My ink cartidges are full and new.  I have had this printer for 3.5 years and have never seen this notification, nor have I ever cleaned the inside of the printer.
    Thank you for your help.

  • My Mac has gone really slow since upgrading to Mavericks. Any suggestions as to how to speed things up again?

My Mac has gone really slow since upgrading to Mavericks. Any suggestions as to how to speed things up again?

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • How to clean c5-00 camera lens inside and out

pls help my phone is kinda cloudy when taking pictures... how to clean it properly and clening agents which is found on local market. tnx

    Hi phoenixzurc,
If there is dust under the camera lens, please take the device to Nokia Care point and ask if they can clean it. Trying to clean it yourself might void the warranty of the device and potentially damage it. If there is dust on the lens, you can try to clean it with dry cloth.
    Hope this helped!

  • How to clean DVD/CD-ROM (slot-loading)?

I have a +*MacBook Pro*+ with a slot-loading DVD/CD-ROM. I have a DVD that won't play certain parts. I repaired and cleaned it and now it looks much better and the part that was not playing in the movie is now playing. However, now there are other parts that aren't playing. I used someone else's computer to see what might be wrong. The DVD played fine on theirs, everything played. This person suggested that my *lens might be dirty*. I don't know *how to clean it if it is a slot-load or where to find the cleaning supplies*. If anyone knows how to clean the DVD/CD-ROM, please let me know. *Thank you!*

Haven't had the need to clean my newest, but in previous MBPs have had much success with the brush-type drive cleaners sold by various makers. These have 2 or 3 really soft, small and flexible brushes attached to the working side of a CD, plus a content track that leads you on how to play the thing so the brushes get a good go over the lens.
In my now-deceased Feb'08 MBP, one of them enabled me to resuscitate the drive and let it play CDs and DVDs it was consistently spitting out.

  • How to clean or get rid of duplicate files or pictures?

How to clean or get rid of duplicate files or pictures mac osx mountain lion? Many pictures do not open and show alias. I have too many of each.        Thank you
    Barbara

The only real and safe way to do this is to do it manually  looking through each folder individually.
Many third party utilities claim to clean out a hard drive of various detritus, but some times will deleted data that it shouldn't  and delete important data and that it shouldn't have.
The only "safe" way to accomplish what you need to accomplish is to do this manually.
Stay away from the OS X system folder!!!!!
If you had a duplicate system install and had duplicate system files, your iMac would not be running right now.
    Hard drive getting full?
You can download an app called OmniDiskSweeper.
This app will allow you to see where files maybe able to be delete are located.
If your Mac is running a fairly recent version of OS X, here are some general guidelines.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you have images stored in iPhoto,,the only way to weed out duplicates is to do this manually.
When you delete them, they go to iPhoto's Trash. Remember to empty this when you are done.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what are duplicates and what isn't
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • HOW TO FIND OUT HOW TO CLEAN PRINTHEADS

HP OFFICE JET 4620.....   HOW DO I FIND WHERE & HOW TO CLEAN THE PRINT HEADS, DEEP CLEANING, ETC?

    Hello @Musiclady1,
I would like to assist you today with cleaning the Printheads on your HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer. Can I please have you follow the steps below.
    How to Clean the Printheads:
Load plain, white U.S. letter or A4 size paper in the input tray.
On the printer control panel, press the Setup icon ().
Press the button () next to the Down Arrow () until Tools displays next to OK.
Press the button next to OK to select Tools, and then press the button next to the Down Arrow () until Clean Printhead displays next to OK.
Press the button next to OK to clean the printheads. The printer cleans the printheads and then prints a test page.
Evaluate the test page for print quality.
    - Source
If the print quality is still not satisfactory, you can run another Printhead cleaning. You may need to run up to three Printhead cleans to resolve a quality issue. Because ink is used during the cleaning process, if three cleans has not resolved the issue I would not proceed with additional cleans as you would just be wasting ink.
Please let me know if these steps resolve your issue. Best of luck!

  • [Solved] /dev/sda3: Clean and fscheck

Hi all, before I mess up my system I would like to get a few opinions first. I have read other posts and the wiki links for this matter. I am still new to arch linux and using other linux distros never had this problem before. Another thing to note is I get this whenever I have had to re-install the os aswell. Anyway I do not get the normal bootup what I get is the following before i get the display manager.
/dev/sda3: clean  (with some random numbers)
    systemd-fscheck /dev/sda4: clean
    systemd-fscheck /dev/sda1: clean
Random numbers on all of them. For my arch system I have a 1tb hdd set up as the following
    boot: /dev/sda1 - 2GB
    Swap: /dev/sda2 - 8GB
    Root: /dev/sda3 - 25GB
Home: /dev/sda4 - Rest of the HD
    Any help would be appreciated.

What I was trying to get across is that the message I was recieving when booting up is new to me. I have used Ubuntu, Debian and I have tried Manjaro and Gentoo. I always got the same loading all the time, list of modules being loaded before getting to the display manager. All I really wanted to know is if this was normal and wasn't something that I may have caused, With Ubuntu and Debian, when I installed these I was pretty much using all the pre-installed software and then installing what I needed. I only tried Gentoo but couldn't get used to it. I have just gotten confident enough to branch out and start with a net install cd and build from there.
Although I have gotten a grasp of how arch works and how to install things, there are some parts that are new.
Well it is good that you have gotten you answer.
I have used Gentiles in the past a few times and the learning curve is a bit harder than Arch. One of the things that I feel makes Arch so great is the package management. Pacman is super simple and so much faster than anything else out there. Everytime I have taken the time to install Gentoo and get it going it is always about three good sized updates later that I can't stand compiling the packages any longer and I just stop booting into it.
I keep thinking a source based distribution would be really great to get really comfortable with but I think I am just too impatient/attention deficit to really get anywhere with one. Maybe if I had started my Linux journey a decade earlier it would be a bit easier. I even have a pretty fast computer and I still can't stand the compiling screensaver.

How to clean project from comman line ?
I would like to invoke the same functionality as in Flex
Builder Project -> clean... -> clean all projects...
but from command line is it possible ?

    You can:
    1) Perform a project clean up (p.153 of the user manual) - it removes any unused recordings, samples and other files
    2) Consolidate project (p. 154 of manual) - this copies all the used audio material into the project folder and also deletes any empty folders within project folder, making it easier to navigate
    3) Save project as a copy - this creates another project folder, but without all the backups and other additional files
