[SOLVED] How to modify Arch system info terminal

Hello,
I was wondering if it was possible to modify the System Info display in the terminal(with the Ascii Arch logo).
I have no clue where to look, and Google isn't my friend on this matter.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    There is quite a bit of data that is stored in the System Properties. Run this little test app and it'll display all of the System Properties, what you are looking for may be contained in there:
    public class Test {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            System.getProperties().list(System.out);

    Set the cursor for your root frame to a wait cursor. That should do it.

    I had Apple wipe my computer clean and now it's at the "Welcome" page but I need to find out all the specs like RAM/Hardrive space how can I get that info without running the welcome intro?

    if you know the year and CPU speed of this macbook - go to everymac.com and match your specs from the year it was released.
    if you can see your serial number - go to the link below and enter the last 3 characters of your serial number and you'll get the specs.

  • [SOLVED]How to install Arch Linux UEFI to dual-boot?

    Hey,
    so I have a Lenovo G50-70 on which I want to have a Windows-Arch dualboot. I followed the Beginner's Guide, installed Arch but ended up with an inaccessible Windows. I could boot into Windows from the BIOS utility, but not from the gummiboot bootloader.
    The guide said if I wanted to dual-boot, I must leave windows EFI partition alone, which I did. I have my Windows partitions set up the Windows way, with the system reserved and EFI and recovery partitions, and I have my Windows partition of course and a data partition. After that I have some unallocated space, on which I made the Arch partitions, /dev/sda6 as an ESP partition for the EFI files, /dev/sda7 as root, /dev/sda8 as swap and /dev/sda9 as /home. The install process went without any error, then I made some configurations and installed dosfstools & efibootmgr. After that, I installed gummiboot and ran "gummiboot --path=/boot install". After that I created the configuration files exactly like in the guide, unmounted the partitions, rebooted and saw that there's no (easy) way getting into Windows. So my question is: how can I install Arch to have a working dual-boot system?
    Thanks for any help in advance!

    Hey,
    Writing to you on my working dual-boot with ArchLinux (Windows 8.1 64-Bit, UEFI)
    So first step I've done is creating free space of an existing partition in the windows disk management (windows button and r and then type diskmgmt.msc). At this step, you have to record which partition your efi partition is (just take a look at your efi partition and remember the mb of this partition for later)
    Then go into the uefi settings (bios) and disable secure boot as well as fast boot, otherwise it could cause data crash.
    Boot your Arch Live CD and follow the beginners guide all the way along till you reach the disk management.
    If you want to have swap, you can create yours right now, should be a primary partition of about 4gigs.
    Next partition is gonna be your home, system partition (I've didn't created two partitions for home and for the system but you could do this as well as just go with one partition) this partition gonna be formatted in ext4
    Next step, you have to mount your windows-efi partition in /boot/efi but don't format it dont remeber if it asks you how to use the partition but if so, just use as fat32.
    After the disk management go ahead with your arch installation and follow the beginners guide. (Make sure you're using the grub bootloader)
    After finishing the installation, restart your system, hopefully you will recognize the opening grub menu. (but dont scare, windows wont show in the grub menu at this time so you have to boot your arch)
    Arrived in arch linux type the command
    grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    Reboot and your done with your Arch Linux, Windows 8 dual boot, hopefully

  • How to modify Source system in DS

    Folks,
    I have a Data Source with old Source System for one of my InfoObject. I need to load the new master Data for this InfoObject. But I am unable to change the Old source system to new source system as the Pencil is diabled?
    Do I need to reinstall the InfoObject from BI content and do this from scratch..??
    Any Help please..
    Thank You!

    You cannot change source system directly this way.
    Depending on what is your situation there are 2 workarounds:
    Case 1: you want to keep mapping of your existing source system and also want to load from the new system. Follow these steps:
    1. Right Click on InfoSource and selectassign data source
    2. Select the new source system (press F4 for options)
    3. Select the datasource
    4. Next in the transfer rules screen do the mapping and activate.
    Case 2: You don't want to load from the new system without making any change to the transfer rules (and update rules if any). Follow these steps:
    1. In SM59 change your old system RFC connection to point to the new system.
    2. Then right click the source system and perform a check/restore. This will update partner profiles for the new system.
    3. Replicate the datasource and activate the transfer rules.
    4. Request your BASIS team to run program for BDLS that changes the system pointer.
    You dont have to reinstall anything from business content in any case

  • How to modify a webservice in SICF on a productive system

    I hope I am in the right forum.
    For an external webclient program I created a webservice with automatic login. I transported all in production. But in production user and password are different.
    How to modify now? To change the service in development is not possible because neither the client nor the user is existing... and SICF is testing them both.
    I opened the system and made my modification and it works. But in my point of view it's a work around and not really the state of the art...
    Somebody has an idea to do it in a better way?

    Hi,
    How did you create the web service? I would suggest to have a look at this web log:/people/thomas.jung3/blog/2005/05/09/abap-webservices-logon-language-processing
    It is about multiple languages, but it can be used for your login problem too.

  • How to Run the NEW "System Info Command" in Tiger ?????

    I am new to Applescript and was wondering if someone could help me on how to run the new "System Info Command"?
    Thanks!!!

    The "system info" command that red_menace uses above is the new system info command that's mentioned on the web page you referenced. However, red's example only displays the "long user name" and the "AppleScript version" in the dialog.
    The entire system info record actually contains all of these items, each of which you can access just like red_menace shows you in his example:
    AppleScript version
    AppleScript Studio version
    system version
    short user name
    long user name
    user ID
    user locale
    home directory
    boot volume
    computer name
    host name
    IPv4 address
    primary Ethernet address
    CPU type
    CPU speed
    physical memory
    Steve
    PS - if you switch Script Editor over so the bottom pane displays the "Event Log" you'll see the entire system info record displayed in the log when you run red_menace's script.

  • [SOLVED]possible to make live image of a current running arch system?

    Hi Friends!!!. Is it possible to make live iso image of a current running arch system? are there any tools available for that?(I want to do this cause When i install a new arch system, I want to remain my own customizations intact)
    Last edited by Pranavg1890 (2012-10-14 07:29:58)

    OK, so after reading the posts, I think that this is not possible.but i think this sould be feature which should be researched upon cause everytime I install arch on a new machine(arch reinstalls on same machine are very rare cause it's a rolling release and has excellent recovery tools) I have to spend a 5-6 hours of time configuring the system.so, i think it should be a feauture that should be worked upon.for eg. like you could chroot into the iso created and then replace the deafult configs by the one on your system or a system scanner which scans the changes on the system with respect  to default arch installation and make the necessary changes to the live image.Thanks friends for your replies. I mark this thread as solved.

  • [SOLVED] Remote Access to a home Arch system behind the router.

    Hello,
    I am trying to remotely access my home Arch system from school. I did try doing something and this is what I did:
    1. Used DynDns and NO-IP to setup a free domain, I thought NO-IP script was easy to run so I tested this on NO-IP.
    2. I then installed Openssh.
    3. Then I have setup the Port forwarding on the router to point to my ssh port (change from 22).
    4. I tried to ping, the domain name from NO-IP with no response.
    What I want to ask is... is there any better way of doing this?
    I dont need a desktop access, simple ssh should do for now.
    Thank You
    Gopi

    OK, I have solved this by this process. Will work only if the router supports the DynDNS. I am assuming that you have created a DynDNS account, its free for 2 domains. I also had to make my computer use STATIC IP from my router, just specify any IP address outside the DHCP range.
    1. On the router, add the details about the DynDNS account. On my Belkin Router, I had to go to Firewall -> DDNS -> DynDNS and give the details and also enable it.
    2. By doing the above step, we don't have to install the client for DynDNS.
    3. On the router again, setup the port forwarding, again (on my Belkin Router) go to Firewall -> Virtual Servers -> Add the IP and the port numbers, I had to use the same number for both the incoming and the private port, though for other routers the number can differ?
    4. On the computer, I installed the openssh and then changed the login port to the one specified in the router for forwarding.
    5. Make the router and ssh logins as safe as possible. I understand that opening the router is not safe so I have to warn you.
    I can now login using my DynDNS domain name from anywhere woohoo!

  • [SOLVED] How do I find out what packages are installed in a distro?

    Okay. I was running Arch before, but GNOME had a bunch of problems that I couldn't fix myself, so I reformatted and went to Peppermint OS (it's a cloud-based system), and I absolutely love it. Now, the thing is, it's even slower than my Arch system was running GNOME, and it's supposed to be super-lightweight and speedy; but aside from that, I found it's a great distro (I think most of the slowdown is because it's based on Ubuntu and Mint). So, my question: how do I find out which packages are in Peppermint OS so I can emulate the basic environment, except with Arch underneath? Thanks, guys!

    Okay, I guess an hour of Googling wasn't enough, but I just found a site that tells me how to do it! I'll mark this solved, but for anyone else who wants to know, the info is right here: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/find-out-i … -in-linux/ It uses dpkg, which I think is only used on Debian-based systems (correct me if I'm wrong) so it may not work for all distros, but it's a start.

  • [SOLVED] - Changing the root file system to a different disk

    Hi,
    I ran out of disk space on my / partition so I decided to buy a new hard drive, and copy everything over (but with different sized partitions). Hoewever, Arch is still using the old / partition rather than the new one.
    My new home partition is mounted on /home, as I expect. But for some reason, both the old and the new root partitions are mounted on /. Furthermore, I know that the old disk is being used for the root filesystem because conky tells my that it's 94% full, which is how full the old / on my old disk was.
    Here are the things I tried:
    First of all, I changed my fstab so that the root partition on my new disk gets mounted as /. (I also changed it for my /home partition similarly). Here are the relevant lines from my fstab:
    LABEL=new-hitachi-root / ext3 defaults 0 1
    LABEL=new-hitachi-home /home ext3 defaults 0 1
    UUID=3c1c1940-693f-4428-aa89-65e1403241f7 /old-home ext3 defaults 0 1
    UUID=4a84f8ae-4bad-4acf-8573-1a7b244b416c /old-root ext3 defaults 0 1
    After this, gparted reported that my old root partition was mounted under both / and /old-root. My new root partition is mounted under /, also. (So I have two partitions mounted under /, my old and new root partitions. However, the system is using the old root partition, since conky still tells my that / is 94% full).
    I'm not sure what else to try. I tried messing around with /boot/grub/menu.list, but I'm not sure how to modify it, I keep making my system unbootable. At the moment it looks like
    title Arch Linux
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/4a84f8ae-4bad-4acf-8573-1a7b244b416c ro
    initrd /kernel26.img
    (or it did look like that, before I modified it). That seems to be right, because the root entry says (hd0,0), which is the same as /dev/sda, which is the disk where my new root partition is.
    Cheers for any help! I'm pretty stuck until I can get some more space on my root partition.

    karol, thanks. Any idea how to get it to point to my new disk? I tried
    root=/dev/disk/by-label/new-hitachi-root ro
    but I couldn't boot from that, I got loads of errors... it couldn't find proc, it didn't even know the host name, loads of other errors. What is the new naming scheme?
    bangkok_manouel, do you mean grub? I modified /boot/grub/menu.list as described above, is there anything else I should do?
    Edit: I didn't post the whole fstab file, but boot is definetly in there. Actually, I'm still booting from the old disk, since I didn't want to boot from the new one until I got root and home right. (Is this bad?)
    My whole fstab:
    devpts /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
    shm /dev/shm tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0
    LABEL=callisto /callisto ext3 defaults 0 1
    LABEL=thebe /thebe ext3 defaults 0 1
    LABEL=new-hitachi-boot /new-boot ext3 defaults 0 1
    LABEL=new-hitachi-root / ext3 defaults 0 1
    LABEL=new-hitachi-home /home ext3 defaults 0 1
    UUID=3c1c1940-693f-4428-aa89-65e1403241f7 /old-home ext3 defaults 0 1
    UUID=4795b52b-f849-4bcd-8032-d1634550afdc /boot ext2 defaults 0 1
    UUID=4a84f8ae-4bad-4acf-8573-1a7b244b416c /old-root ext3 defaults 0 1

  • ERRORS ESS - NWDI Import to production - not updated in J2EE System Info?

    Hi all,
    We have a GoLive planned for ESS in five days and are encountering many troubles during deployment of the SAP_ESS component on our Production Environment.
    We have modified some components in ESS and have used NWDI CMS to transport them through the landscape (DEV-QAS-PRD). We have successfully imported the latest version of the SAP_ESS component into production, but the System Info of the J2EE Engine still displays the old version for the SAP_ESS component and we are experiencing lots of errors when running ESS on production.
    How can NWDI CMS say the import in production is successful, but the System Info of J2EE is not updated?
    Please advice! Any help would be highly appreciated and ofcourse rewarded with points.
    Best regards,
    Jan

  • ArchTaz Live: boot and run an Arch system entirely in RAM

    ArchTaz Live Boot: A method to boot and run an Arch system entirely in RAM using tmpfs.
    As the name suggests it was inspired by (copied entirely from) SliTaz http://www.slitaz.org/ and boots in exacly the same way.
    It needs a custom init script in the root directory and for some reason that I can't work out a hook for sysinit_premount in rc.sysinit to remount / rw.
    The /usr/bin/archfs script is just a chunk of Slitaz's Tazusb utility with some minor changes (and I haven't properly tested the lzma or no compression).
    The /init script is modified from the usual initramfs /usr/lib/initcpio/init with hints from the SliTaz /init script (and some personal additions for my system).
    Copy init to the root directory, run archfs (eg. # archfs writefs gzip) and move the resulting archfs.gz to your boot partition/directory and boot with archfs.gz as your initrd.
    I run a fairly light system (Openbox, Firefox, Gnome-Mplayer, SpaceFM, no dev packages) and gzip compression gives me an archfs.gz just over 230MB that boots in just over 30 seconds using 138MB RAM on startup, and most applications start instantly (2GHz Core2Duo, 4G RAM). Lzma compression generally gives a smaller archfs.gz but takes longer to boot. I have a persistent home partition, I install packages as I need them and then they're gone on next reboot if I don't do a new archfs.gz to keep them. I delete man pages, unneeded locales, etc. Obviously if you're running a hefty install on a limited box you may run into problems.
    Any tips, cleanups, corrections welcome. It's been a mostly copy and paste and mash stuff together process so it isn't neat. And I think I may need some serious help when systemd becomes default.

    Oh yes any man directory was symlinked to /tmp long ago, so they don't even get installed.
    Right, new boot process:
    Using hooks in normal initramfs-linux.img to unpack archfs.gz into tmpfs and boot it.
    Create an initcpio preset file /etc/mkinitcpio.d/archfs.preset:
    # mkinitcpio preset file for the 'archfs' package
    ALL_config="/etc/mkinitcpio.conf"
    ALL_kver="/boot/vmlinuz-linux"
    PRESETS=('archfs')
    archfs_config="/etc/mkinitcpio.conf"
    archfs_image="/boot/archfs-linux.lzo"
    archfs_options="-S fsck -A tmpfs -z lzop"
    Or append to the standard 'linux.preset' file so the initramfs is created automatically when you upgrade your kernel. Or alter /etc/mkinitcpio.conf to add options.
    Create the file /lib/initcpio/hooks/tmpfs:
    #!/usr/bin/ash
    run_latehook() {
    # Mount tmpfs root
    mount -t tmpfs tmpfs /mnt
    # Unpack rootfs
    msg "Unpacking rootfs..."
    cd /mnt
    # parse the kernel command line
    parse_cmdline
    for archfs in ${archfs//,/ }; do
    if [ "$archfs" = "xz" ]; then
    xz -d < /new_root/boot/archfs.xz | cpio -imd --no-absolute-filenames > /dev/null 2>&1
    elif [ "$archfs" = "gzip" ]; then
    gzip -dc /new_root/boot/archfs.gz | cpio -imd --no-absolute-filenames > /dev/null 2>&1
    elif [ "$archfs" = "lzo" ]; then
    lzop -d < /new_root/boot/archfs.lzo | cpio -imd --no-absolute-filenames > /dev/null 2>&1
    elif [ "$archfs" = "img" ]; then
    cpio -imd --no-absolute-filenames /new_root/boot/archfs.img > /dev/null 2>&1
    fi
    done
    # Switch tmpfs to new root
    umount /new_root
    mount -M /mnt /new_root
    # vim: set ft=sh ts=4 sw=4 et:
    And the file  /lib/initcpio/install/tmpfs:
    #!/bin/bash
    build() {
    add_dir /mnt
    add_module ext3
    add_binary cpio
    add_binary xz
    add_binary gzip
    add_binary lzop
    add_binary fsck.ext4
    add_symlink /usr/bin/fsck.ext2 fsck.ext4
    add_symlink /usr/bin/fsck.ext3 fsck.ext4
    add_runscript
    help() {
    cat <<HELPEOF
    This hook creates the tmpfs root, mounts the device that contains the
    rootfs and extracts it into the tmpfs root.

    # vim: set ft=sh ts=4 sw=4 et:
    This loads modules and fsck binaries for the filesystem of my /boot partition into the initramfs. It also adds all the relevant compression binaries (some which can also be compiled into busybox or left out if not needed). I'm working on automatically reading the filesystem from your /boot partition based on the "root=" kernel command line option and adding the appropriate modules.
    Create a new archfs.gz (or new extensions) with new cleaned up /usr/bin/archfs:
    http://pastebin.com/xiqgyYyL
    Now run with:
    # archfs lzo
    (or whichever crompression you choose). It also takes care of any mounting directories you have in /mnt. And "writefs" is no longer needed, that's all it does anyway.
    Then simply add the "root=(your boot partition)" and "archfs=lzo" (or whichever compression you chose) command line options to your grub.cfg.
    Run:
    # mkinitcpio -p archfs
    That'll create an initramfs: archfs-linux.lzo that you need to move to your boot partition with your kernel and archfs.gz. Then point grub to that as your initrd.
    This will boot and the tmpfs hook will do it's work just after init has mounted your boot partition and then init will switch roots and run /sbin/init as it would on any normal install.
    Mix and match as needed. You can remove the /init file from the root of your filesystem or leave it there and all but an xz compressed archfs.gz will boot the old way aswell (the kernel can't handle the xz version). It should all be fairly upgrade proof, barring any major changes to mkinitcpio.
    Boot for me with lzo compression is at least twice as fast as old method. Partly due to lzo compression which is super fast (especially creating the archfs.lzo). It makes for a bigger file but it's still only 350MB (pretty much half my uncompressed root filesystem).

  • Macworld June Geek Factor - how to modify to multiple desktops?

    They lay out a neat Automator/Applescript workflow to set the desktop to a downloaded image, but give no tips on how to modify the script for multiple monitors/desktops. Ideally, I'd like the script to only address one of my two desktops.
    here's the section (input is above this segment in Automator):
    on run {input, parameters}
    tell application "Finder"
    select window of desktop
    set desktop picture to file "Tiger:Library:Desktop Pictures:Solid Colors:Solid Gray.png"
    set desktop picture to file (input as text)
    end tell
    return input
    end run
    ideas? thanks!!
