[SOLVED] httrack - Can't get its GUI webhttrack to work

I installed httrack v.3.41.3-1 from extra but can't get webhttrack, the GUI frontend, to work.  Running webhttrack as root gives me the following error message: "/usr/bin/webhttrack(17566): could not find httrack directory".  There seem to be a whole lot of files missing in the httrack package in extra that are present in the original source package httrack-3.41-3.tar.gz from http://www.httrack.com.
How can I get httrack to run in its GUI?

Remove the 'rm -r $startdir/pkg/usr/share' line from it's PKGBUILD, build it, and it should work fine then.

  • [SOLVED] Help, can't get my X-Fi to work :(

Hi all.  I recently decided to try out Arch.  I'm currently running Gentoo on my boxes, but I set up arch on a new drive and I'm giving it a go.  However, the time I have saved by not having to compile anything or troubleshoot emerge issues has now been completely taken up by trying to get my sound working.  Works fine in Gentoo, so I have made sure to compare kernel configurations and they both seem the same in relevant areas.  ALSA is enabled, and OSS is disabled  The XFI driver is built-in, and no other drivers are enabled:

    [root@server2k linux]#
I've been all over the net and I have seen people mention similar problems with the ctxfi driver. But no solutions that have worked for me.  The physical card is seen:
    [root@server2k linux]# lspci | grep -i creative
00:0e.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB X-Fi
    however alsa doesn't see it:
    [root@server2k linux]# cat /proc/asound/cards
    --- no soundcards ---
I tend to not use modules for stuff I know I need (e.g. sound card drivers...) , but the module is there..in the kernel.  I was trying with a separate module before, and I made that lsmod told me it was loaded.  However nothing seems to make a difference.  I'm pretty sure alsa is configured correctly because I was seeing my onboard sound before I disabled it. I also took out all of the alsa-related stuff I had put in rc.conf and modules.conf because nothing seemed to make a difference.  it was all related to getting the ctxfi crd to show up as card0 to override the onboard, but since it's not even being detected that seems sort of pointless right now.
If anyone has any ideas of what to try next I would really appreciate it. These are the versions I am running:
    kernel  2.6.34.1
    alsa-lib-1.0.23-1
    alsa-utils-1.0.23-2
Oh, the otehr weird part is if I look in the dmesg output, the driver claims that "Something's wrong!!!"  Yeah...really useful. In the source for the driver there are like 16 places where that error message is printed, and I'm not about to go hacking some module code.  I did put some print statements in there to see where it was failing, and it looks like it's failing at this call:
    err = atc_create_hw_devs(atc);
Don't know if that helps, is anyone familiar with the actual driver?

Thanks, all.  No luck, I ended up scouring the gentoo forums some more and found somebody who ran in to the exact same problem last year which I am having now.  Here's the solution.  It worked for me.  Not ideal, but all else failed:
Today I tried again to get my soundcard working, this time with:
linux kernel 2.6.31 and the alsa ctxfi driver in it
linux kernel 2.6.31 and alsa-driver-9999 from portage
both led to the same results as before (see my postings above)
So I finally hacked the official creative xfi-driver to compile against 2.6.31. And now sound is working again for me...
If anyone else runs into the same trouble as I did, here are the changes i made:
    Code:
    $ diff XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00 XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00-new
    diff XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00/ctatc.h XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00-new/ctatc.h
    25d24
    < #include <sound/driver.h>
    diff XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00/cthw20k1.c XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00-new/cthw20k1.c

    > #include <linux/delay.h>
    diff XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00/cthw20k2.c XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00-new/cthw20k2.c
    23a24
    > #include <linux/delay.h>
    diff XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00/xfi.c XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00-new/xfi.c

    < #include <sound/driver.h>
    55,59c54,57
    <    card = snd_card_new(index[dev], id[dev], THIS_MODULE, 0);
    <    if (card == NULL) {
    <       return -ENOMEM;
    <    }
    <
    >    err = snd_card_create(index[dev], id[dev], THIS_MODULE, 0, &card);

    Actually, wrong.
The tech support people can help with Playbook purchased apps. If you've called and they said they cannot, you were lied to.
Even in the link you posted, in #10, it states clearly "App Refund related matters are handled by BlackBerry Customer Care." That, my friend is accessed by the support number. Again, if you were told otherwise, you should inform them of such or ask for a manage/supervisor.
And, you don't have a "Partner ID" because you are not a "Partner". The section you're referring to applies to mobile providers, which are the Partners.
    Good luck.

    Hi deamayfield,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your Music app is unresponsive, try restarting/resetting your iPhone:

  • Can't Get a GUI Running

    Hey guys,
Alright, this is roughly what I have going on.
I have quite a few methods, mostly all of which have to do with reading input from an Xbox controller, writing information to a serial controller, reading information from the serial controller, etc, etc.
What I want is to display certain information in a simple-looking GUI. What I have right now is a load of System.out.println's which looks quite ugly.
(Think of the GUI as something simple that displays what buttons are pressed, etc...)
The thing is, I can't get the GUI to function in my program. I mean, I can get a simple GUI window open in a separate .java file, but when I try to take the code and put it into the .java file with the rest of my program, bad things happen. (It's a bit hard to explain, but because some of my methods have never-ending while loops (listening for controller input), the methods that open the GUI window and continually update the variables are never executed.)
I hope someone can just point me in the right direction or something.
    Thanks.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Can't get my audio clip to work in Keynote except in edit mode. I've followed Help instructions to the letter. Any suggestions?

Hi Gary - thanks so much for your help. I'd already done that, but finally stumbled across the answer for my situation. I'm new to iMac and this is the first time I used Keynote, so maybe this info will help someone else along the way - I still haven't found this in any of the Keynote documentation or forums I've read.
My slides were all set up with at least one text box in which the text was animated. The sound was the last thing I added to each slide, exactly following the info in Keynote Help re: adding audio. The audio would work when I tested it in Inspector mode, and also if I switched to soundtrack instead. But not if sound was added to each individual slide. Hmmm. After I submitted the question above, I was running through the (auto) slide show one final time to check text, animation, etc. when I noticed that on just one single slide the sound effect came through, but at the very tail end of the slide. Hmm again. Why?
Through trial & error, the answer was in the animation section - not very intuitive re: audio. The steps to correct the issue were: 1) click on the sound icon embedded in each slide, 2) click on the animation tab in Inspector. 3) There's a drop-down menu there that allows you to reposition the audio clip to the #1 spot (if it was added after other "animation"). This allows the sound to begin before the text animation begins on each slide. Before doing this, I guess the sound was in there but the slides were transitioning before it had a chance to play.
Since this is the first time I've used Keynote and it's the most recent version, I'm not sure if this is a new feature to allow users to choose where within a slide to play a sound effect, but I'm guessing that might be why was unable to find any info on how to solve it. Hopefully this will help others who get stumped.
Thanks again for jumping in to help! I really appreciate it.

  • How can I get the readability bookmarklet to work

Firefox 3.6.8 in Windows XP Home on a Toshiba netbook. How can I get the "readability" bookmarklet to work? It works just fine in Camino on an Apple mini desktop computer running OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger.) Readability uses javascript, which I do have turned on. The problem (of it not working) doesn't seem to have anything to do with the NoScript add-on either, as I tried allowing everything on the page and it still didn't work. Any ideas of what to try next?
    ''Duplicate post, continue [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/746624 here]''

    Hi there.
By chance, I too have the readability bookmarklet installed (but I don't use it that much, to be honest), and it works ok for me. It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • Can I get a stepper motor to work useing an AO channel on a DAQ card?

Can I get a stepper motor to work useing an AO channel on a DAQ card? I know its a very low currentl coming out, but what Im going to be using the motor for is very weak. Has anyone tried this before? I certinaly dont want to spend 2,000+ on somthing that will be basicly moving a string on some pullys back and forth.
    Thanks,
    -Mark

    Greetings, Mark
You can certainly use the A0 as a driving signal, but you need to amplify the current considerably to run a stepper motor. Additionally, most stepper motors require multiple phase driving signals to work properly. If I understand your application, I believe a stepper motor is a bit of overkill...you only want to use them when precise positioning and repeatability is an issue. You might look at some of the linear actuators available.

  • I have tried to reindex my messages but I still can not get the search function to work in email

I have tried reindecing my messages by rebuilding the library but I still can't get my message function to work in mail.  Any proposed solutions much appreciated.

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock all your user files, reset their ownership, and remove their access-control lists. If you've set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Back up all data.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • How can I get my web cam to work in Adobe Connect ?

This is actually an end user's question that I am having trouble answering to...
We use Adobe Connect to give online language classes, the end user is one of the students.
I cannot find the right Support answer to give him.
    Problem:
My camera does not work when I connect to Adobe's rooms but camera works fine with other software.
Even though I suspected my old camera was working fine, yesterday I went ahead and bought a new camera.
I thought perhaps my webcam software may have been a problem, so I bought a different type camera with different software.
Even after removing all the old software, same result:
I surmised the problem might be caused by my firewall and security software, so once I tried changing the permissions for Adobe, and my Webcam, but that didn’t work.
Another time, I restarted my computer right before class and then turned off my firewall completely so there would be no interference but to no avail. I’m totally perplexed.
Isn’t there anyone else experiencing a similar problem?   Has anyone else found a solution?
I run Windows Vista with McAfee Internet Security Software.  I always reboot the computer before class and open no other programs other than Google Chrome.
I now have a brand new Microsoft LifeCam Cinema Camera with LifeCam 3.5 Webcam Software.
I test my camera before going online.  It always works fine.   Then I shut down the camera program and login into class.
When I “connect webcam” in the room, the light on my camera comes on (suggesting that it is ON), but only a black image is transmitted to the room.

Check to see if you have Google Voice installed. If so, remove it and see
if your problem vanishes. If not Google Voice, check to see if you have
any other communications software which interacts with your cam and
disable it. This was the problem I had with a similar problem on a Mac.

Thanks a lot Heyward for the swift reply !
I sent the advice out to the end user, but unfortunately this wasn't the
    solution.
    His reply is below :-
The default resolution of my new camera is already set at 640x360, but I
went ahead and tried several lower resolutions (e.g. 424x240; 320x240; and
160x120) but none worked in the room - camera still showed up as black
blank screen.  Also, as far as I can tell, I don’t have the option of
    adjusting the frame rate.
I started playing around with my Internet Security Settings to see if they
might be playing a role. So far, all to no avail.
Hmm...quite a tricky one - webcams always are - maybe if he can find a way
to adjust the frame rate (?).
He's going to fiddle about with the settings a bit more and see if
    something does the trick.
If anyone has had a similar problem and found an ingenious solution,
please jot on a note on this thread.
