[SOLVED] I cannot add a local USB printer through cups

Hi all.
I have a DCP-7065dn from Brother. It is a mono-laser/scanner combo. Using the instructions here http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bs … index.html and the repackaged drivers from the AUR I was able to get scanning and the scan button to work (plugged into laptop via usb). But I can't seem to add the device as a printer. when I visit the cups url [http://localhost:631] I go to Administration --> Add Printer. But there is nothing listed under Local Printers. Brother offers lpr and cupswrapper drivers as well ad ppds. They are deb and rpm packages but are also availible in the AUR. I have downloaded and installed these packages from the AUR but still cannot detect the printer. Am I missing something simple?
Thanks for your help.

  • Local usb printing LJ P1102W with tsweb access

    Hello,
I have a laptop with windows 7 prof 64bits installed and a local usb printer HP Laserjet p1102w CE657A installed. Now I try to print via tsweb access (2008 server 64bits) a document, but this doesn't work. The printer is accessible via the server with a redirected session and uses the Terminal Services Easy Print driver. Is this a known issue and is there a possible solution? It's a business solution so I have not the opportunity to use the wifi option. I have also tried to install the own drivers and to share printer on the server, but this will not work also.
    Local usb printing is working.
    Greetings,
    Marcel

Use GPEDIT.msc to open local group policy on the terminal server.
The policy location is “Computer Configuration -> Administrative templates -Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host -> Printer Redirection”. Set it as disabled. Open CMD command and run GPUPDATE /Force on the CMD command and log off then log on to make the changes affected.
    It works for me.

  • Cannot add any music on iPhone through iTunes

I cannot add any music to my iPhone through my iTunes.
I have the latest software on both, iPhone iOS 7.1.2, iTunes 11.4.
    On a Macbook Pro, 10.6.8.
I recently couldn't detect my iPhone on my iTunes whatsoever, so I updated the iOS (which meant I had to delete all my music on it to free space).
I've tried doing the managing syncing. I can add music (that's greyed out and actually isn't on my phone) through autofilling a playlist.
Any other suggestions as I have spent hours and hours on this, something that used to take no time is now killing me.
    Thanks

That's normal (that the music is grayed out). Click the EYEfone icon, then the Summary tab (along the top) - if you want to manually manage music, check the box. Else, click the Music tab (along the top, not in the list on the left), then select the box to sync music, and select playlists or All music, then click Sync.

  • Always duplex printing when printing through cups server

I have about 6 printers which people normally accesses through a cups server running on a Linux box.
We have always printed through the cups server from the Macs we have - and this has always worked great (they get auto-detected as shared printers and so on).
But a few months ago something changed on the Macs - they can now ONLY print duplex - nomatter what i tell them to do in the print dialog. When printing first to a postscript file and then sending the postscript file to the printer (via terminal/lpr) everything gets printing correctly - but when using the printing dialog it always prints duplex.
When printing to the printers directly (many different models) everything works - but going through the cups server - only duplex.
All our Linux machines prints both duplex and simplex as they should, so the cups server isn't the problem.
Has anybody else had this problem?
      Other OS

    Armin,
You need to do the following to make the duplex printing work for postscript in Oracle Reports.
You need a printer with duplex option and an appropriate PPD file.
You also need the Unix tool sed to filter the output file.
The problem is that duplexing is enabled in the job level set up of the PostScript document but gets reset in the page set up because paper size and printer tray information is generated for every page. The workaround would be to write a script, which removes page level set-up information for the paper size and printer tray set up commands. As a side effect of this - it is no longer possible to switch the printer tray between pages.
Write a sed script file called 'duplexsed' with the following three lines. This
    /^%%BeginPageSetup/,$ {
    /^%%BeginFeature/,/^%%EndFeature/d
Copy the file to an appropriate directory, for example $ORACLE_HOME/bin.
    Set the environment variable TK_PRINT:
    TK_PRINT="sed -f $ORACLE_HOME/bin/duplexsed | lpr -l -s -P'%n' -#'%c'"
    export TK_PRINT
Note that the print command is different for the various kinds of Unix.
You may need to refer your installation guide and make changes to the lpr command
    Thanks

  • Cannot print .pdf attachments in Outlook 2010 on local usb printer using the lastest Adobe Reader

We can't print pdf attachments from Outlook 2010 on a users local printer via usb with the latest Adobe Reader but it can print to a network copier. We can print from the local printer emails, webpages, regular pdf's on the hard drive.
    Please advise and thanks.

What is the behavior that you are seeing? Are you getting some error or is it simply failing to print with Reader 10.1.2.

When doing a quick print with a right click on the pdf attachment, it will print.
Also, please let me know that if a simple Right Click > Print operation is working, then what exactly is the operation that is failing.

  • Cannot add a Canon Network printer to iMac (Intel) OS 10.8.3

I have never been able to connect this mac to the networked printer(Canon ImageRunner Advanced C5045).  The printer is detected as a printer nearby connecting through bonjour, but it won't print with the updated drivers, it wont print with generic drivers.  I've added it by IP address, by advanced settings with IP address, When I use the canon drivers, it gives me a driver error -50.  When I use the generic drivers it says its connecting and says it sent the prints, but nothing comes out of the printer.  I'm kind of at a loss.  Any suggestions?  Please?

been sitting here non stop for two days trying to make it work.
    Under Adding it by default:
Ive used the canon driver UFR II (both US and UK) 2.43 which is supposed to work with 10.8. This leads to an error "Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again, then start Printer Utility to get the printer information." Ive used the generic PostScript printer driver and the generic PCL printer driver.  These say they have printed - but nothing comes out of the printer.
    Under adding it by IP
Ive used IPP with canon drivers/generic drivers (canon drivers error -50 - generic drivers say they have printed but nothing comes out)   Ive used Jet Direct with canon/generic drivers (no results) Ive used LPD with canon/generic drivers (no results)
    Under adding it by windows
I've found what I believe to be the printer, but it asks me to log into the printer with a user name and password - I dont have either and didnt need any such thing to set it up on the windows machine right next to it.
    Under adding it by advanced
under canon CUPS BDL - got error -50
under canon CUPS Uni-direct IP - got error -50
under canon CUPS Uni-direct USB - got error 50 and Printer is not responding.Check the printer power and connection, and then try sending printing job again.
under canon UFR - got error 50
under IPP - got couldnt connect would you like to continue - yes - says printed - no results
under IPP (http) got error -50
under IPP (https) - got error 50
under IPP (ipps) got error 50
under Jet direct - got no results
under LPD/LPR - got no results
under windows with spoolss - got log into printer with user name and password - followed by error -50

  • Is it possible to add BlueTooth to USB printer

I have moved my MacBook Pro to a smaller space and would like to have it be able to contact my old USB-only Canon Printer and Canon Scanner via BlueTooth. Are there USB/BlueTooth adapters for peripherals? When I search online I cannot find them - only adapters to add BlueTooeh to computers.

The printer is a Canon iP6000D, which - according to Canon - will support
Wireless photo printing from compatible infrared mobile phones
    and has a USB port.
The scanner is a Canon CanoScan 5600F which has only a USB port.
In my house, the MacBook can access existing a networked laser printer and a wireless inkjet all-in-one (both HP), but I prefer the control I have over scanning with the CanoScan.
Guess I'll just have to live with what I have.
    Thanks to everybody who responded.

  • Is there a way to manually add an old USB printer driver in Mac OS X 10.5.8?

    Hello!
I recently accidently deleted an old printer, Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX Ink Jet Printer, in Mac OS X 10.5.8 on an old MacBook Pro (2008; 15"). I cannot figure out how to readd it manually without having the physical printer connected through its USB cable. Do I really need to have it connected to do this? I rarely use it and do not have access to it at the moment.
    Thank you in advance.

So removing this specific printer in the same place (+ and - icons) in System Preferences' Printers & Faxes, also removes the drivers. Weird
No. In your opening post you said you had deleted it and required a re-install of the driver. Now you are saying something different.
Oops, I should not have said the driver to cause the confusion. I can't edit my original post. Sorry!
I never had to install one since Mac OS X came with one. I just need to add the printer without the printer connected.

  • Help Needed in Fixing USB Printer after CUPS Update [SOLVED]

CUPS updated a while ago but I didn't notice any warnings from pacman or whatever. I did later notice on the front page that cups had been upgraded so that usblp is no longer usable. It told me to blacklist usblp, and so I did. I also upgraded the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file as per the instructions.
    I still cannot print.
When I plug in my printer, I get the following in /var/log/messages.log:
kernel: usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
kernel: usb 5-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
load-modules.sh: Not loading module 'usblp' for alias 'usb:v03F0p1D17d0100dc00dsc00dp00ic07isc01ip03' because it is blacklisted
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did indeed, though the solutions presented seemed quite convoluted.
Luckily, I have printing working by readding the printer.

  • Cannot add HP Deskjet 3820 printer

We have been using an HP Deskjet 3820 printer with an iMac forever with no problems. The printer is connected from the printer parallel port to the USB port on the computer using an adapter cable. Last time we tried to print the print job stopped in the middle of printing. Occasionally this would happen in the past but if I deleted the printer and then added it back everything was fine. Now, though, when I try to add the printer under the USB heading, I get a question mark, the printer name, and "driver not installed". I have tried reinstalling the software that came with the printer, and downloaded and installed the latest drivers for my system software - all with no change. HP is really no help except to tell me that a talk with a tech will cost me $30 or I can buy a new printer. The weird thing is that I can print a test page, so there is some communication between the computer and printer, but I can't actually install it to print from within an application.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Try:
    Repair permissions (Disk Utility).
Delete Print Prefs - search for files that start with com.apple.print (File>Find) and delete them.
Restart the Mac. Try adding in Print Center again.

  • How to add a local serial printer with vbscript

For a new application that we are rolling out I need to add several printers to about 100 Windows XP workstations.  Two of them are network printers and fairly easy to add using vbscript.  The one I am having problems with is a locally attached serial printer.  I am not really sure where to start for creating the port.  I need it to use COM1 (4800, 8, none, 1) with the Generic / Text Only driver.  Any ideas how to get started on this?

    For future wonderers:
    Cscript %WINDIR%\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\en-US\Prnmngr.vbs -a -p "COM PRINTER" -m "Generic / Text Only" -r COM1:

  • USB Printer queue gets stuck - SRSS 4.2, SRWC 2.2, SRVC 1.1, VMware View 4

    Hi,
My environment is VMware vSphere 4 with a few ESX 4 servers. On that, I have a vCenter, a View 4 server and SRSS. Then I have a number of Windows XP desktops.
When the user logs into his/her desktop via the Sun Ray, everything works including the local USB printer (an HP laserjet). But...you can only print once...then the print queue stays at "Printing" and won't go away. Any further print jobs just get queued up. It also won't let you delete the print job from the queue. The first print job actually does come out on the printer, but doesn't disappear from the XP's print queue.
    Any ideas?
    Jim

I can duplicate the "white screen of death" with Early Access to vmware view, with Rays running from Solaris/x86. This is in fact not vmware-specific, as I can hang uttsc to an ordinary XP system. To duplicate fairly reliably, I run a Flash example and then "start -> logoff". uttsc doesn't terminate, and truss shows repeated
    /1: pollsys(0x08046690, 2, 0x08046728, 0x00000000) = 0
    /1: ioctl(10, AUDIO_GETINFO, 0x08046620) =0
This doesn't happen if the IE window is terminated before logout. The behavior appears to be independent of "-F off" in uttsc (but I'm using the Ray audio driver).
Is there a workaround (other than downgrading) in the vmware view scenario?

  • EA3500 and usb printer

    Hello.
I read this manual Connecting a USB printer through the Cisco VUSB software on a Windows-based computer.
And i have last firmware on device.
But when i run CISCOVUSB, i see empty window and error: server is unavailable.
    Firewall if off.
    What is wrong?
    I have Windows 8.1 and HP M1214

    Hi 5exi!
I believe it's not supporting yet Windows 8.1. However, you can select the compatibility that you're going to use.
After downloading the Cisco VUSB on you desktop, right it, choose Compatibility, then select Windows 7 or XP.
