[SOLVED] ID3 tags not registering on MP3 Player

I just got a new MP3 player, and some of the ID3 tags that I've set on my music don't register. I have some other songs that were set on a Windows computer; these show up perfectly find. Every tag editor I've ever used has this problem.
What is a way to convert the ID3 tags into a format that my mp3 player (a coby MP826-8G) will be able to understand?
EDIT: Duh, I was using id3v2 instead of id3v1. Apparently most hardware music players don't read id3v2 yet.

indeed, the tracks do have both v1.x and v2.x tags. Obviously, iTunes only accepts v1.1 tags. v2.x tags or mp3, who have both tags attached, will not be displayed in iTunes.
I have deleted the v2.x from the problem mp3-files using the "mp3tag" - tool. After re-importing the files into iTunes,
everything was fine.

• Retaining ID3 Tag information when transferring from player to computer.

I know that this has been discussed already, but I'm having a tough time finding it... I have the zen touch and I was wondering if anyone could direct me to the post with information on how to keep the ID3 information on the player when music is transferred on to the computer instead of having it change over to the original information before it was put on the player?....or perhaps someone could reply with instructions on how to do this?

In MediaSource's Tools->Settings->PC Music Library, click Properties to set the folder and filename convention. Then transfer the tracks from your MP3 player to MediaSource's PC Music Library. After that, right-click the PC Music Library node in MediaSource's Sources window (which is the leftmost window in MediaSurce) and select Update Tag. This will update the tag of the audio files with the track information seen in PC Music Library. Please note that the Update Tag feature is only available in MediaSource v3.

• Id3 tags notes or comments field

I have MP3 files that contain ID3 tags with Comments fields that contain information. When inserted into iTunes library these show up with a blank Notes field. I don't see a Comments field available, so I assume that Notes is the label given that same field by iTunes. However, the content is not displayed.
By the way, I access those fields by right clicking on the song, picking Get Info, then going to the Info tab.
Any clues as to how to get the Notes/Comments field imported or displayed correctly?

Notes? I don't have a Notes field -- I DO have a Comment field.
iTunes support for Comments fields is spotty. It does not support the short description field according to the ID3 specification; maybe it uses an older spec -- to be honest I'm not familiar will all of the ID3 specs, since there are several versions and they all have differences.

• My ID3 tags not being recognized by iTunes 10.2.2

Can't quite find my unique problem on this board so hopefully someone can help me.
I have imported a lot of MP3 files into iTunes, successfully, which have v2.4 ID3 tags on them. I screwed up the song titles on one (Grateful Dead) show, and all songs came in titled '04'...
I deleted the files in iTunes (and asked iTunes to remove the files as well), fixed up the ID3 tags in the originals, and reimported. But, titles are still '04'!?
Since my music library is on my Linux box and I am mounting and importing from there, I thought maybe something was getting cached so I copied the whole album directory over to my iMac, but still I get the same '04' title for every song.
I also changed the Album attribute in the ID3 tags, but that is still also coming out the old (wrong) way.
It is as if iTunes has some sort of 'fingerprint' of the songs and refuses to recognize the ID3 tags.
This is on OS X 10.6.7 on iTunes 10.2.2, so I'm up to date on all software. And, I've imported A TON of shows like this without issue, it otherwise works just fine.
Anyone ever see this weird problem before?

Sorry, should have been clearer.
The first time I applied the ID3 tags my script for parsing the artist, album and track names from the directory name hierarchy and filenames (e.g. ~/Music/<artist>/<album>/<track number>-<filename>), my script had a bug and all ID3 'title' values were set to the month number of the concert (04 = April).
So, the first time I imported into iTunes, all tracks were titled '04'. I deleted those in iTunes, fixed my script, but now despite apparently having correct ID3 tags, all songs continue to be named '04'. I also changed the album value to, changing from 'Hartford 04262010' to 'Hartford Apr 26, 2010', but again the original value appears to be "sticky", and despite the apparently revised ID3 tag, the album name also is the same as the first time I imported (i.e. Hartford 04262010).
Like I said, it appears that iTunes is somehow caching the original values and not recognizing the new / revised ID3 tags.

• ID3 Tags Not Being Recognized

Okay, so I have a problem and I am racking my brain trying to figure it out.
Itunes isn't recognizing some of my music's ID3 tags. Worst part is I used Itunes to convert every song I have to ID3 v 2.4, but there's still a handful that aren't been recognized. I used Media Monkey to aid in my tagging. For further pain listen to this. I also just updated from Itunes 6 or whatever to 7.4.1.1.1.1 or whatever the **** it's at now, and it went from about 7 albums to like 30 that itune's won't recognize the ID3 tags for.
For more help look at this image. Showing an example of how all my songs have and Artist, Album, and more set to them, but ITunes won't pick it up. Any idea how to fix this guys?

Hi guys. If your music is in MP3 format, try downloading this program: http://www.download.com/Mp3-Tag-Tools/3000-2141_4-10106717.html
Then click file > open directory. Find the folder that holds your music and click open. Make sure 'recurse subdirectories' is ticked so that it opens everything within the folder. This can take quite a while if you have a lot of music.
Once all your files have loaded, press Ctrl+A to select all of your music files and then press F7. This duplicates whatever is in your ID3V2.X tags onto the ID3V1.1 tags.
For iTunes to take notice of any tag changes you make in this program, the file either has to be played or re-uploaded into iTunes which can also take a while depending on how much music you have, but once you've done that, iTunes should start recognising your tags.
Hope this helps!

• Changing ID3 Tags - not updating?

Hi
I am updating Artist, Title information within iTunes - but for some reason the changes are not being reflected in the file ID3 tags?
some of my files are updating and others are not?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance?

How are you examining the ID3 tags? Maybe whatever program you're using to look at them is caching the information, and not checking the tags when you look at the file a second time?

• P505-S8980 not uploading to MP3 player in stereo

I have been using a Sansa MP3 player since before having this computer. It was uploading in Stereo until I attempted to us a ion Profile LP turntable to transfer LP's to MP3 AND CD formats.
ion uses i-tunes and it did something to my sound system when I uploaded i-tunes.
I have since uninsalled all files related to i-tunes.
Suggestions?

Are you referring to protected AAC files that you purchased from the iTunes store? If so, they are not mp3s, and cannot be converted into mp3s. All you can do with them is use iTunes to burn them to an audio CD.
If they are unprotected files, such as iTunes Plus purchased files, or AAC files that you ripped from CD, then you can use iTunes to convert them to mp3. Look in iTunes Help under "Saving a copy of a song in a new file format."

• Zen Vision: M Explorer does not recognize my mp3 player he

Seemingly, my Zen Vision: Micro is not recognized by the Zen Vision: M explorer software. My computer recognizes the hardware as present (being a verified physical connection via USB port and the mp3 player itself). I am currently running Windows XP professional with service pack 2 as instructed via technical support but to no avail. However, when running my old damaged Zen Touch, the computer and the software recognize it as being present and I have access to the dri've.
I am wondering whether or not it's a hardware issue, which I believe it to be. The issue is, that I cannot return it to Newegg (which I ordered from) because they have deactivated the product (reasons which remain unknown, which sucks because my warranty is from them so I don't know what I'm going to do about that). I would not like to bother with the hassle of having to deal with split product supports and was wondering if there were any solutions that would not involve sending back my mp3 player. I have tried messing with registry keyes, system rights, hardware profiles and such as well as reinstalling the software multiple times but to no avail. It plays fine, and looks beautiful, but I can't do anything with it currently...
If anyone has any pointers of which I have not mentioned it would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
TheShield

Had the same problem and got no where with creative so I wanted to exchange but there was none left in the shop so I said I would hang onto it untill they got a fresh batch. I only got this problem after a firmware update. I decided to format it and the software picked it up not a problem. And just to confirm I updated the firmware again and again I had the same problem and done a format and yet again the software picked it up so I suggest u format it and see what happens

• ID3 Tags Not displaying

Good Morning all,
I just imported a few hundered songs (MP3's converted from flacs) into iTunes and set up the artists, albums, genre, track #, etc. for each song. When I look at the songs in the music folder, these new song's tags do not display. I have several thousand songs and almost all of them have these tags displaying properly in the folder's columns. However, these songs do not. Is there a way to get the tags I entered in iTunes to show up for these songs in the folder without having to manually edit each one (there are hundereds)? I have never had this problem before. In the past whenever I edited a song in iTunes, the updated tags showed in my folder just fine. I am using windeows Vista. Any thoughts?

No one has any information on these?

• ID3 tag editor on MP3 play

Hi all,
How is it possible to change the ID3 tag info on your mp3 player itself?I own a Vision:M but if you need to select the folder/removable disk with the Creative Media Toolbox (Auto Tag Cleaner) the Vision:M doesn't appear as a removable disk, but when I open 'My Computer' it is shown as an 'Audio-Device'...
All help is welcome !
Greatz, Von Belgium

Scratch that!
I just found out how to edit tags already on your player. Basically connect your player to your pc, open up Mediasource, and right click the song you want to change and click Properties. There you can change the fields and the changes will show up on the player.
Check out epizenter.net in a little while. I'll be making a picture guide for this.

• ITunes not reading ID3 tags correctly

I have an album of mp3s, all correctly ID3 tagged (WinAMP and Windows Media Player read them fine), and when I try to add it into my iTunes library, it only add it as the filename. It does not read the artist, album, or track name from the tag.
It is strange that it is able to read some of the id3 tags but not all.
iTunes 6.0.4   Windows XP Pro

Something else on your system is probably changing the tag outside of itunes. For instance, WMP is set to get album info from the internet.
iTunes isn't constantly scanning your library for any little tag change (a good thing, otherwise it would use 100% CPU all the time). When you go to play it or get Info, it DOES read the tag info.
Then again, I might not understand your itunes preferences settings. I have mine set for itunes not to organize my files and not add them to the itunes library.

• Problem with track order (ID3 tags) when transfering from ZENcast Organizer = Vision:M 3

Hi there, I am using ZENcast Organizer V.2.00.4 and my Zen Vision:M's firmware version is V..6.0e
Okay, I have a time consuming problem with the way my podcasts are organized on my player. When i download my podcast from ZENcast Organizer everything is neatly organized. By that i mean that the tracks are positioned in the order in which they were released by the radioshow. Let me just give you a picture : you can see that after the 27th comes the 28th and the 29th etc. That is also the way i would want the files to be played on my player, but unfortunately they are not.
Here is a pic of what the order looks like on my player after i have transfered some of the podcasts . Since there are no ID3 tags concerning track number, the player seems to sort the files alphabetically, which is a hassle for me as i have to search through my tracks each time I would like to listen to the following show.
The way that I have dealt with it until now is to download the tracks with ZENcast Organizer and then add the track number information with Media Monkey and then upload them to the player via Zencast Organizer. That is a lengthy and annoying process and since i have missed the show (due to my new work) for 4 month now, i have a lot of files that i must edit.
So I was just wondering if there is an easier method? I was thinking in the lines of a plugin for ZENcast Organizer that would add track number information? I wouldn't care if it numbers them 2 3 4 or 2 22 23 24 just as long as they come in the chronologically right order when i play them.

I did some testing and discovered that ZENcast Organizer indeed does know how to sort the files on my player so that they are played in the right order - under the transfer you just have to check the box which makes ZENcast Organizer convert the music (mp3) files into videofiles as shown in the picture: http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/439...ransferar5.jpg
This makes my player play them in the right order as shown here:
But i do not want player to be spending a huge amount of unnecessary power on showing a screen I am not going to be looking at.... my podcast is a radio show, there is nothing to LOOK at, literally.
Why on earth does ZENcast not change the filename when i choose to download the shows in their nati've mp3 form but only when I convert them to video?

• ITunes doesn't read ID3 tags properly on import

hi all,
today I've added ID3 tags to all my mp3 files, so that they will look better in iTunes and my iPod. I have added information for "title", "artist", "album" and "track #" in ID3v1 and ID3v2.3.
Now, when I import these files to iTunes, the ID3 information is read only partly or not at all. This means, some tracks show all information, some only show title and artist, some do not show anything at all.
I edited all the ID3 tags with the same software, which makes it even more mysterious. The software was implemented by myself in C#. To edit the ID3 tags, I used the library UltraID3Lib. I don't think that something is wrong with my software because the ID3 tags are displayed properly in Winamp without any problems.
I have also already tried the option in iTunes to convert the ID3 tags, but this also only yields strange results: If I select "none" as ID3 version, iTunes obviously imports the information from the ID3v1 tags, but it deletes the ID3v2 tag at the same time, so that titles and albums are cut down to 30 characters. If I choose other options, nothing changes.
Does anybody have an idea how to solve this problem? Or can someone maybe explain this "convert ID3 tag" option? It doesn't really make sense to me...
Many thanks in advance!
gehho.

As far as I know (and it may not be very far), iTunes does use standard ID3 tags for most things. The XML file stores info on ratings, playlists, playcounts and other iTunes specific information for use by other applicaitons. iTunes itself doesn't use the XML file but rather the iTunes Library.itl file.
It's possilble to do multiple file tag editing in iTunes for things like artist, album, year, etc. I would say, go with whatever works for you. It just seemed as if what you were doing wasn't working. Perhaps the other suggestion will solve you're problem.
Best of luck.

• ITunes + ID3 tags..

Hey guys its my first post here
I don't really have a problem relating to connectivity or anything major. But I do have a question.
When I drag and drop songs into my playlists in iTunes 6.01, I later re-edit the artsists name and album to my liking and have it shown exactly how it is on my iPod Nano. But the problem is the ID3 tags on the actual MP3 is also changed at the same time. Is there anyway to have iTunes not touch the ID3 tags on the mp3 itself after editing it thru iTunes?
I currently like the way I have the artists and album names all sorted out, but I just found out, it also edited my actual mp3 files, and thats not really good for me because I have the mp3 files according to an sfv file which checks CRC's..
any help is appreciated guys.
Intel P4   Windows XP Pro

Is there anyway to have iTunes not touch the ID3 tags
on the mp3 itself after editing it thru iTunes?
No. When you edit the song info in iTunes, you are editing the file tags. That is a tag editor, not just a "iTunes Information" editor.
I currently like the way I have the artists and album
names all sorted out, but I just found out, it also
edited my actual mp3 files, and thats not really good

If you don't want to change the tags, then don't use the tag editor to change the tags.
