[SOLVED] Inkscape bug after last system update

After the last system update I started to have problems in Inkscape when I tried to adjust the color and alpha sliders to maximum values. They would only go up to 245. This means that a lot of basic colors are not achievable anymore, and the opacity cannot be set to maximum, which basically makes Inkscape unusable. After googling it for a while, I understood that there was a similar problem some time ago with Inkscape version 0.46-7 and GTK+ (here is a far better description of the bug, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=467431), but this problem was assumably fixed in a later version (for the Red Hat package anyway). I am using at the moment Inkscape 0.46-10 and GTK2. Anyone with similar problems? Please help and thank you very much!

under the fill and stroke dialogue (ctrl-f), there is a small input box called RGBA which is just that, 1 byte for each channel. edit it at will. you will notice the sliders dont go past 245, but the value used by inkscape is the hex number there

hi - i think you should not use 'xhost +' - it's not secure and you shouldn't need it....
in your .bashrc or .cshrc or whatever, you should have setenv DISPLAY .0 or the equivalent export...
then ssh -Y hostname should be all you need... no xhost, and not setting DISPLAY every time...
could you enter the following command from a terminal window and post back the results?
grep X11 /etc/ssh*_config

Systemd-udev-settle.service suddenly active after last system update

Hi,
with my last pacman -Syu I noticed that my boot time went up from 4s to 8s.
Using systemd-analyze, I saw that systemd-udev-settle.service is the culprit.
I am not using lvm or similar, so AFAIK systemd-udev-settle.service should not be running on my system.
Does anybody know why this was activated by the last system update and if it is safe to just mask or disable the unit?

I noticed that it is slowing down my boot also, I checked and for some reason the lvm2 package was installed which looks like it was partially causing it. It has a couple messages at boot and in dmesg. I removed lvm2 and by boot time is a little better, and masking systemd-udev-settle brings my boot back to where it should be.

[Solved] Makepkg aborting after last pacman update

Hi all,
firing makepkg yields:
$ makepkg
==> ERROR: An unknown error has occurred. Exiting...
And therefore this happens also when I try building packages of the AUR with yaourt.
The problem showed up with last pacman update.
What I am I doing wrong?

Large Backup After Last System Update

There have been a lot of problems after 10.6.5 update, and this is another one. TM backup went from 120 GB to 240 GB after the system upgrade. I had to stop it manually, so I don't know if it would have continued in an infinite look until the disk was full as has happened to me before.
Does anybody know the cause of TM filling the backup disk?
When I enter TM there are only a couple of increments available.
I suppose I need to delete the whole archive and start again.
Does anybody know a way I can save my incremental backups?

A quick look at some of your recent posts indicates you may have done a full restore. That results in a full backup. See #D3 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
If not, see #D4 there.

You can, of course, but if it had started backing-up, it had made enough space.

The ones already deleted are gone for good.
The remaining ones probably won't be deleted when you do the next backup, but a few might. If not, they'll likely be deleted before long.
You may want to consider getting a larger backup drive, at least 3 times the size of the data on your system.

"Optimizing your Mac", continuing after last system update

Have now 10.9.4
The message has been there for a week, perhaps.Three external hard disks are busy all the time, 5 TB totally.
I did not dare to reboot, I waited to see what happened.
(Other people had the same problem after installing Maverick, last year. I searched)
I am unsure if the lots of files takes this much time to move or what it does.
Any advice?

I always do disk check after power failures. I'd like to know why I maybe not should just shut it down normally?
Also one person I read about here did not get it stopped by rebooting.
(Apple got me to pull out the power cord the other day, to get my WiFi working ok, that worked well)
I waited so long, because the disks hold very many files...

Norton Anti Virus Live Update stopped working after last system update

Hello,
I am using Anti- Virus version 11 for MAC. It has worked fine for years. Now Live Update will not run.
I have tried reloading and nothing helps. Is anyone experiencing this problem.

FYI:
Norton Anti-virus software is the worst app to install on a Mac. It will slow down the drive and cause all sorts of system issues. Delete Norton and get ClamXav available here, and it's free:

There are no known Mac virus. If you really think anti-virus software is necessary, then use Clamxav. It can detect a trojan horse and malware both.

X isn't working anymore since the last system update.

I'm using Arch for a couple of months and didn't need a forums login until now. But currently I've broken somehow my system and can't get it working anymore. So I need some help of you.
The Problem:
Arch Linux is running on my computer at work as a virtual machine inside VMWare Player 6.0.2-1744117. Host ist Win 8.1. After the system-update xorg didn't start anymore. Neither with kdm nor with plain X. When I start the X-Server (X as user or systemctl start kdm), the cursor of the tty console appears in the upper left corner, but isn't blinking. That's all. Only a black screen. It seems, X itself isn't starting. There's no process in ps and no graphics mode switch. In journalctl there's no (error) message.
What I've done:
Last week I made a system update, xorg-server was a part of it:

I've tried a downgrade to xorg-server 1.5.0.5, but it didn't help.
I would prefer the vmware graphics driver, but temporary the vesa driver would do the job too. I can access the system via ssh from outside. Inside the VMWare after starting X I can't switch to the tty consoles anymore.
Any ideas?

Apple forced me to upgrade because in the last Java Update there wasn't the button "Run applets: in their own process"

video avi, mov, flash swf get in freezer my computer…

and so on
Wehn I start to watch some video monitor blink for 5 times fast and get in freeze
I guess there's a problem with the Video Card because if I do a videochat in skype after 10 sec monitor get in freeze but I can hear and speak again....
so what can i do?

The App Store application isn't found in your HD/Applications folder?
What is this 10.6.6 disk image and where did you find it? The App Store started with 10.6.6 but your combo update should have also includedd it.

Cannot access internet through itunes after last itunes update. Cannot get to itunes store or itunes help. Everything else works fine.

After last itunes update I cannot get to the internet through itunes. Cannot get to itunes store, itunes help, etc. Also, now when I sync everything syncs properly but I get message at end that tells me that my phone cannot be backed up on the laptop.

Something may be corrupt in your iTunes installation. The backup problem may or may not be related. The first step is reboot your system, disable your antivirus and firewall and try again. The next thing to try is completely removing iTunes and reinstalling: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925.
Also, if you used TinyUmbrella or Recboot as unauthorized apps to help with the update they corrupted your network settings on your computer. You will have to edit your hosts file and remove all references to Apple servers.

Not sure whether you have tried these methods, if yes, keep trying the others.
1.Run IE with no add-ons firstly.
Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (with no add-ons).
If works, please follow the steps to narrow down which add-on cause the issue.
Start IE>Press Alt to show the menu bar>On the Tools menu, click manage add-ons>under show, click All add-ons>disable half add-ons one time for quick narrow down>restart IE.
2.Try resetting IE.
Start IE>Press Alt to show the menu bar>On the Tools menu, click Internet options>Advance>Reset>restart IE.
3. This is caused due to some registry problems occurred. To resolve this issue, follow the below steps:
Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
Type regsvr32 actxprxy.dll in the Open box, and then click OK.
If the command was successfully executed, you will receive the message ‘DllRegisterServer in actxprxy.dll succeeded’ window.
Restart the Internet Explorer
4.if still not work, run system restore.
Start>type system restore in the search box>click system restore>follow the steps in the wizard to choose a restore point.

Too long printing process with Mail since last system update

Since the last system update about a week ago, it takes forever for Mail to process an e-mail to the printer (about 30 seconds). Most of the time, the emails only include text.
This only happens with Mail. I daily use FileMaker Pro, Excel, InDesign,... and only have this problem with Mail.
My printer is a Xerox Phaser 6360 and I have a new iMac with an OS X V.10.8.3
Can someone help ?

Do you have any Mail plugins in the ~/Library/Mail/Bundles folder? Perhaps there is an incompatibility between them and Parental Controls?

After last iPhoto update I find Pages documents in photo files

After last IPhoto update 9.3.1, files from Pages are showing up in my photo files. How can I fix his ? Also bought Apeture 3 from App Store . C

I did delete them. Just wonder how/why they showed up. Hope hey stay away. Thanks.
