(Solved) [Intel HDA] Headphones not detected

Hi there,
I'm having an annoying issue since I've installed (and re-installed) Arch on my netbook.
Everything's alright (except Gnash, but I'll google that later), the internal speakers work perfectly but when I put my headphones or my speakers (ext.) the internal speakers are "muted-off" (so the jack is detected, right?) but nothing's coming out from my headphones/speakers.
Here's my aplay -l out :
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: CONEXANT Analog [CONEXANT Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: Conexant Digital [Conexant Digital]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
And here is my amixer output:
Simple mixer control 'Master',0
Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Playback 0 - 65536
Mono:
Front Left: Playback 65536 [100%] [on]
Front Right: Playback 65536 [100%] [on]
Simple mixer control 'Capture',0
Capabilities: cvolume cswitch cswitch-joined
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Capture 0 - 65536
Front Left: Capture 27636 [42%] [off]
Front Right: Capture 27636 [42%] [off]
and a lspci | grep Audio output:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
My headphones are plugged-in since I booted.
Another problem is that when I'm launching alsamixer there's only the master (Card: PulseAudio - Chip: PulseAudio). So, I make F6 > "1 HDA Intel" and I have other channels :
Master (100 & unmuted) - PCM (100 & unmunted) - Mic (0 & muted) - S/PDIF (muted) - S/PDIF Default PCM (unmuted) - Beep (86 & muted) - Internal Mic (0 & muted) -- (Card: HDA Intel - Chip: Conexant CX20549 (Venice))
This is strange because on my former installation of Arch (on the same PC) the "default" alsamixer had exactly the same channels and the "Master only" didn't 'exists'. (But I had the same problems).
I tried a bunch of solutions I found but none worked.
alsa-utils alsa-plugins & alsa-oss are installed (base-devel too if it can help).
I'm using SLiM & Cinnamon and had the same issue with LXDM & LXDE (same computer).
So if somebody could gave me a little bit of his light it'll be much appreciated!
Thank you, Flaco
*Edit: Since I've rebooted with the headphones plugged-in the internal speakers don't work neither... but it may be something else; I tried a lot of solutions so maybe there's conflict between some files and/or process...
**Edit: Internal speakers issue solved. I might have touched some stuffs on pavucontrol before... anyway, the headphones are still a problem...
***Edit: I've booted (on a live usb) on Lubuntu to see what's happening and... still no sound. The jack input might be broken; I'll open my computer to see what's happening and to repair (or not) it.

Ah. Looks like hardware fault. Windows presents it as "not recognized".
Strange thing is, i used it playing Fallout this morning. Thats why I assumed it was a linux problem...

I just purchased an SBH9150 philips bluetooth headphone. But my macbook pro retina 13" could not detect it. Anybody can help? It is perfectly working with my iphone 5.

Unpair it from your phone and then try pairing it to your Mac.
Does the Mac see any BT devices like KB or mouse?

  • [Solved]StlinkV2-1 kernel not detecting the device

I have a stm32 board which have stlink with it. I installed the stlink and all the necessary udev rules are there. If enumerated properly it will create a serial device  /dev/ttyACMx  and will also show a fat partition.
When the board is connected and i restart the computer it works fine, serial port is there. But when the computer is running, i remove and insert again the usb cable it is not recognised. I get the following error in dmesg

    [ 355.793280] usb 3-7: can't set config #1, error -71
but if i reset all the usb ports using
    # reseting USB2 ports
    for i in $(ls /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/|grep :)
    do echo $i >/sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/unbind
    echo $i >/sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/bind
    done
    # reseting USB3 ports (if there none you'll get errors)
    for i in $(ls /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/|grep :)
    do echo $i >/sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/unbind
    echo $i >/sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/bind
    done
It works fine. I have H97 MSI gamer 3 board.

I got it working. Actually the cable was faulty. I tried with other cable and it worked fine. But strange thing is that after usb reset old cable works fine.

  • Headphones Not Detected

    Hi,
I recently purchased this laptop and the headphones never were detected. I have updated my RealTek audio drivers. I have tried multiple headphones and they are working on other computers.
When I plug in the headphones, the headphones do not work and the sound still plays from the speakers. The headphones are not listed in Playback devices. Only the RealTek spaeakers are listed.
My BIOS is F.09 from 08/04/2014
Producct Name: HP Envy 15 Notebook
    Product Number: G0T55AV
Drivers: Up to Date (RealTek Drivers)
Thank you for helping. I am thinking of returning this laptop I just purchased soon if I can't get this fixed.
    Sincerely,
    Ben

    Hi @Butterback ,
    Thank you for your query.
I grasps that when you connect your headphones the sound comes out of the speakers and not the headphones.

  • [SOLVED]Intel HDA HDMI Keeps Coming Back From The Dead Like a Vampire

I have an Asus H87M-Pro mobo with a E3-1265L v3 Intel CPU.  This CPU does my audio and video, but the problem is I haven't had audio since I installed this mobo.  Dead silent.
I believe the problem must be that HDMI audio is siezing card0, which I infer is the default sound slot, but blacklisting the modules hasn't worked:
    blacklist snd-hda-intel-hdmi
    blacklist snd-hda-codec-hdmi
... and setting those modules to never, never take card0 hasn't worked:
    options snd-hda-intel-hdmi index=-2
    options snd-hda-codec-hdmi index=-2
alsamixer always comes up first with
    Card: PulseAudio
    Chip: PulseAudio
I can <f6> and choose HDA Intel PCH and it's not muted, but that doesn't get me audio.
With no settings in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf I get:

I have never had a problem with audio before.  Anyone know what's going on here?

The first index value (1) corresponds to first id (PCH) and since sound cards are counted from 0, this sets HDMI as primary. This should become pretty clear following the example on wiki.
Oh it's clear when you have different sound cards, as with their example of the MIA.  But what's not clear at all within the Intel driver, is the relation between "index value" (an utterly abstract term unconnected with anything substantive), and ID.  I infer that the IDs in this case are PCH and HDMI.  But HDMI has two possibilities, analog and digital, as does PCH.  How can HDMI have an analog function?  And is PCH my goal? And what does PCH mean anyway?  Why does everything have HDMI in the name?  Where does Pulse fit in all this, since alsamixer considers it the default?  And why is the module named snd-hda-intel-hdmi.ko yet when it's loaded it's called snd_hda_intel_hdmi?  And which should I use in blacklist.conf?  And why is there a snd-hda-intel-hdmi.ko and snd-hda-codec-hdmi.ko?  And which should I use in blacklist.conf for options?
See none of this is explained in the wiki, and yet is fundamental to understanding how to set this up.  Whoever wrote the wiki already knows all this and assumes the reader does too, which is a common failing of tech writers.  With huge gaps in the information, I can't begin to synthesize a solution.  Maybe fundamentals aren't important to the kids these days.  They will find out soon enough though.
    emeres wrote:
    options snd_hda_intel enable=1,0
This is ambiguous, since, like I previously stated snd-hda-intel is used by both cards. Again the link to wiki where it is explained step by step how to determine vid and pid and use it with options. Vid and pid are used to determine a specific card and so specific options can be set for a specific card. They can be used with both suggestions. Yes there are very unlikely scenarios, where it might cause more trouble than good.
    I think you mean this:
    blacklist.conf:
    options snd-hda-intel id=PCH,HDMI index=0,1
    options snd-hda-intel-hdmi index=-2
    options snd-hda-codec-hdmi index=-2
    # aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel HDMI], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA Intel PCH], device 1: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
Unfortunately it doesn't work.  Notice that now everything has HDMI in the string... ridiculous.
By vid/pid, I think you mean this:
    # lspci -nn |grep -i audio
00:03.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio Controller [8086:0c0c] (rev 06)
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset High Definition Audio Controller [8086:8c20] (rev 04)
05:00.0 Multimedia video controller [0400]: Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23885 PCI Video and Audio Decoder [14f1:8852] (rev 03)
Where's HDMI?  Where's analog?  Guessing that "4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio Controller" might be HDMI:
    blacklist.conf:
    # PCH
    options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=auto vid=8086 pid=8c20
    # HDMI
    options snd-hda-intel index=1 model=auto vid=8086 pid=0c0c
    # Hauppauge
    options snd-hda-intel index=2 model=auto vid=14f1 pid=8852
    alsaplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
    Subdevices: 0/1

card 2: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
Now thankfully I do now have audio for the first time on this mobo.
But HDMI is now 3rd? And there is no Hauppauge?  Can anything be done about that?

  • [SOLVED] Intel driver is not loading.

    Hello,
I just got a new laptop and finally put Arch on it. I have to use "nomodeset" to see anything (Putting the intel_agp and i915 modules in the initramfs does not work, nor does the SVIDEO option.) and I installed xorg and xf86-video-intel, and ran startx, and it failed to run.
Below are my Xorg.log.0 and lspci -k outputs.

As you can see, i915 is not loaded for the VGA controller, even though it should be. I do a modprobe i915, in case for whatever reason udev can't seem to do it, run lspci -k and nothing changes. dmesg doesn't even seem to acknowledge that I did anything.
Does the i915 driver not support this chipset? That seems highly unlikely.

My computer on my signature is newer than yours and its supported.
I guess there is a backlight issue on your computer. try removing nomodeset and append
    acpi_backlight=vendor
to your kernel comand line. Tell us what u see.

  • Headphones not detected in Windows 7

Hi, until about 2 weeks ago I have had no sound problems with my 17" 2011 Macbook Pro. I use Windows 7 64 Ultimate via Bootcamp.
Suddenly the computer no longer detects if headphones are plugged in or not. I have to manually use the sound device settings to switch between headphones and speakers. This was working fine until fairly recently.
Have applied all the latest updates on both the Mac OS and Windows sides.
    Appreciate the help

Ok the SMC / PRAM process works to revover the headphone on OSX Lion, pfiou!
I try under Windows 7 now & let you know

  • Headphones not detected after update to 5.1.1

Hi all, After updating to 5.1.1 my Z3C no longer detects when I plug in my headphones (neither the ones that came with the phone nor others). - Clearing data for Smart Connect doesn't help- Rerouting sound output with SoundAbout does work, but is not practical - it shows the jack itself is not broken, though- Installing SmartKey did nothing- Production week is 15W25, so not from the "faulty weeks" I have not done any "software repair" or factory reset yet. Anyone else experiencing the same issue after updating?

No, no solution. Support asked me to do a "software repair" through the Companion, and if that didn't help I would have to send the phone in for service. I have just gone through the repair procedure, but no luck. I guess there's no escaping sending away the phone, then. Now all I have to do is to somehow find a phone (that accepts nano SIM) that I can use in the mean time - I can't do my work without a phone

You mean you don't have a Nvidia card in the UltraBay? And Windows shows 2 Nvidia GPUs and Intel GPU at the same time?
Have you checked BIOS/UEFI settings? From what I read, this thing has a hardware mux, so even with just one Nvidia GPU it's possible to switch between Intel/Nvidia/Optimus. But I couldn't tell if this can be done in BIOS/UEFI or if it requires some more magic that's done from Windows.

OT: A simpler way to check if some packages are installed:
    $ pacman -Q intel-dri libgl foobar
    intel-dri 9.0-1
    libgl 9.0-1
error: package 'foobar' was not found
What's the output of 'groups'? Maybe you need to add yourself to 'video' group?

  • [SOLVED] IPS Monitor Resolution Not Detected

I just got one of the new Catleap 27" IPS monitors. It works fine in Windows at its native 2560x1440 but arch doesn't seem to be detecting it properly
    Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 2720 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384
DVI-I-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
    DVI-I-2 connected 800x600+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
    800x600 60.3*+
HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
    DVI-I-3 connected 1920x1080+800+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 531mm x 298mm
    1920x1080 60.0*+ 60.0
    1440x900 59.9
    1280x1024 60.0
    1280x800 59.8
    1152x864 75.0
    1024x768 70.1 60.0
    800x600 60.3 56.2
    640x480 59.9
DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-3 is my second monitor (a regular LCD) which works fine. I think DVI-I-2 is the Catleap. Oddly, the manual says it supports 800x600 but it won't even turn on when X is started. Also it works fine when X isn't started. Whenever I switch to a different TTY my second monitor turns off and the Catleap turns on (albeit at a low resolution).
I've tried adding a new resolution mode with xrandr, but that gives me an error
    # xrandr --newmode "2560x1440_60.00" 312.25 2560 2752 3024 3488 1440 1443 1448 1493 -hsync +vsync
    # xrandr --addmode DVI-I-2 2560x1440_60.00
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 153 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 18 (RRAddOutputMode)
Serial number of failed request: 37
Current serial number in output stream: 38
I've tried various xorg.conf settings and using nvidia-settings, but nothing I do can get it to use a higher resolution or even turn on for that matter. I'm not sure if my dual monitor setup could be screwing with it. I've tried disconnecting my second monitor but that doesn't seem to help.
I found this article, which says that the Catleap's EDID isn't in Linux by default so you can specify it manually. So I set up my xorg.conf.d directory as follows
    # 90-serverlayout.conf
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "Main"
    Screen 0 "Acer V243"
    Screen 1 "Catleap Q270" LeftOf "Acer V243"

    EndSubSection
    EndSection

    Flags "-HSync" "+VSync"
    EndMode
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Catleap Q270"
    Device "GTX 570 DVI 1"
    Monitor "QHD270"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Option "UseEdid" "FALSE"
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "2560x1440"
    ViewPort 0 0
    Virtual 2560 1440
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
    # 20-nvidia.conf
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "GTX 570 DVI 1"

    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    BoardName "GeForce GTX 570"

    BoardName "GeForce GTX 570"
    Screen 0
    Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP-3"
    Option "DynamicTwinView" "FALSE"
    EndSection
Which doesn't work. The Catleap still won't turn on and the mouse position is all screwed up on my Acer. If I comment out the screen 1 line in the ServerLayout, the Acer works fine on its own.

  • [SOLVED]Broadcom BCM4313 does not detect all wireless networks

    EDIT:
I'm really sorry to the Arch forum users and to the admins for posting such easy problems which i could have fixed myself.
To solve this what i did was to change the channel on the router and its 802.11 mode. I turned my main machine on and it was doing the same as the machine i posted here first so it was two machines and so probably not a problem of the pc but of the router.
I don't know if this means my network cards are just bad or something else but it works now.
    Hello,
I'm having a problem with the computer on the title. When i try connect the computer over wifi(to my own network), it doesn't "see" my network. Sees all my neighbours networks but not mine. It was working till a couple of days ago.

I tried changing the encryption on the router from WPA&WPA2 to WEP and to WPA and i from TKIP&AES to simply AES but to no avail.
I also tried loading different modules still related to b43(like the legacy one) and installing the firmware from AUR.
Has this happen to anyone else?
I'm still trying to do this on the live iso so i can try as much stuff as needed and then i can just reboot and then do just what i need:)
    thank you

ewaller wrote:It sounds like your regulatory domain is not set correctly.   Not all channels are legal to use in all countries.  Perhaps your router had been using a channel legally, but your computer is unaware of its location, and was therefore ignoring the channel.  Also, I assume you are in the right band.  I don't know about your system, but thus ancient laptop does not work in the 5GHz band.
Thank you for shedding some light on the subject, but actually the channels the router permits are through 2.412 to 2.472 (more less, i think that writing here 13 frequencies wont help anyone ), and what i did was look on my working laptop, the channel for the networks around the house and select on my router a channel that wouldn't be the same, but i think the router has a built in tool to do this.

  • [Solved] Catalyst and RandR not detecting monitors

    SOLUTION
The xorg.conf that CCC configures, even when xinerama is disabled, does not work with RandR. I gutted everything so only my primary monitor was in xorg.conf, then added the line 'Virtual' where appropriate with the correct square size of my total monitor space. xrandr then detects everything fine, and was able to use xrandr to get the screens working. Openbox only needs one session. Life is good.
    Working xorg.conf with RandR:
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "aticonfig Layout"
    Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" 0 0

    Original Problem
    Hi,
I'm moving from Xinerama (Which worked well for most things) to RandR. To get randr loading first thing I did was disable Xinerama in Catalyst Control Centre, restarted X.
My xorg.conf (Generated by CCC) has all monitors and modes listed correctly, and my middle (Primary) monitor (DFP5) works fine. My two sides, DFP9 and DFP10, are blank. I can move the cursor over to them, but that's about it.
xrandr does not appear to detect DFP9 and DFP10 as being connected.
I am using catalyst-total from AUR.
I've included all info I think may be helpful.
    EDIT:
Seems my main issue was that Openbox needs a session on each X screen. So I can now use each X screen, but I can't alt tab across every window because the sessions don't talk to each other. randr still does not work though.

    EndSection
    Section "Module"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
    Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
    Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
    Option "DPMS" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "0-DFP5"
    Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
    Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
    Option "DPMS" "true"
    Option "Primary" "true"
    Option "TargetRefresh" "60"
    Option "Position" "0 0"
    Option "Rotate" "normal"
    Option "Disable" "false"
    Option "PreferredMode" "2560x1440"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
    Driver "fglrx"
    Option "Monitor-DFP5" "0-DFP5"
    BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0"
    Device "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Virtual 5920 1440
    Depth 24
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
    Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "Enable"
    Option "RENDER" "Enable"
    EndSection
