Tried buidling twice, via tmpfs and not there (commenting the line in /etc/makepkg.conf as needed).  Still no success packaging...

Above error is repeatable everytime.
Fails exactly the same way.  I have eliminated space constraints, blaming yaourt etc, what's next?  Will do the chroot build when home as have been trying the normal ways while at work.  Still suprised that Libreoffice, GIMP and even parts of xorg and xfce have worked flawlessly.  Oh well.

• [SOLVED] Error building firefox-aurora from heftig's repository

I'm currently using the aurora package from heftig's repository at : http://pkgbuild.com/~heftig/aurora/ . No troubles with that so far in the time I've been using it (1-2 days).
Sometimes I like to rebuild certain packages to get a bit more of performance (don't expecting a huge increase) but this time I can't manage to build this one.
At some point after spending an hour or so building I get this error and makepkg finishes without building it:
http://www.pastie.org/2106870
I have no clue on what does trigger that error and the only thing I can think so far is if there is some kind of script that is somehow tailored to the server where usually the aurora package is build and that is making it fail on my laptop.
Does anyone experience this or have any clue on what could be causing this error?
Thank you in advance for your help
EDIT:
Building the package in a clean chroot worked. Makes me think about the hosts config file on my system may have some problem. Anyway, solved.

Ok, i tried to use wiki and build firefox with kde patches and pgo from  AUR repository.
I followed the instructions form wiki page you kindly provided, but every time i get:
==> ERROR: 'pacman' failed to install missing dependencies.
i think it's complaining  about missing kmozillahelper which is available only in AUR. However i found another repository that includes kmozillahelper package -> no result. Can you give me an advise please?

• [SOLVED] Issues building spotify/spotify-beta. (openssl098!!!)

This is the one thing that is really irritating me. I can't have Spotify on Arch here is my output:
[derek@Trillium ~]$ yaourt -S spotify
==> Downloading spotify PKGBUILD from AUR...
x spotify
x spotify.changelog
x spotify.protocol
x PKGBUILD
x spotify.install
Comment by: pyther on Sat, 14 Apr 2012 14:05:16 +0000
@toffyrn - try spotify-beta, at the moment, it is at the same version as spotify. It appears that this segfault occurs when using the system's qtwebkit. I'm not sure what the difference is, but using ubuntu's qtwebkit (included as part of the package) seems to solve the problem.
Comment by: Ape on Sat, 14 Apr 2012 19:13:13 +0000
I also have similar segfaults with this package. spotify-beta works.
Comment by: pyther on Sat, 14 Apr 2012 19:16:18 +0000
@gadget3000 I would be willing to update and maintain this package if you'd like.
Comment by: gadget3000 on Sat, 14 Apr 2012 19:54:56 +0000
@pyther I'm happy maintaining it still. What changes do you think need to be made?
Comment by: pyther on Sat, 14 Apr 2012 20:06:26 +0000
You should
1. Make symlinks in ${pkgdir}/usr/share/spotify/libs/ and then use a wrapper script to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH and call spotify
Example:
ln -s /usr/lib/libnss3.so ${pkgdir}/usr/share/spotify/libs/libnss3.so.1d # libnss3.so
ln -s /usr/lib/libnssutil3.so ${pkgdir}/usr/share/spotify/libs/libnssutil3.so.1d # libnssutil3.so
ln -s /usr/lib/libsmime3.so ${pkgdir}/usr/share/spotify/libs/libsmime3.so.1d # libsmime3.so
2. Use the qtwebkit library from Ubuntu (as the arch library causes spotify to crash with paid accounts)
Example:
install -D -m644 ${srcdir}/libqtwebkit/usr/lib/$libarch/libQtWebKit.so.4.9.0 ${pkgdir}/usr/share/spotify/libs/
ln -s ./libQtWebKit.so.4.9.0 ${pkgdir}/usr/share/spotify/libs/libQtWebKit.so.4
Wrapper:
#!/bin/sh
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/share/spotify/libs/ /usr/share/spotify/spotify $@
In both cases look at my pkgbuild for spotify-beta. Feel free to contact me, if needed.

Very strange version. Because of it every time when I make yaourt -Suy --aur I see following:
aur/openssl098 0.9.8.o-1 - 0.9.8o/[a-z]/.0.9.8o//[0-9.]/}}-
So, openssl098 try to upgrade every whole system upgrade.

This is really not for long term use because openssl 0.9.8 itself is outdated. You'd better find updated packages not depends on this.

The current build lacks version information the libraries.
A version of this package with those is available in my github repo: https://github.com/xhochy/archlinux-pkgbuilds/tree/master/openssl098
Fixed this using http://rt.openssl.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=1222user=guestpass=guest and the debian package.

I would also like to see the versioning patch added. Thanks

@xhochy: not that I don't want to include this patch, but I try to stay as close as the openssl package from [core], and upstream still doesn't include version information. You should report a bug to https://bugs.archlinux.org or ask devs on the arch-dev-general mailing list first if you'd like to see this patch integrated. If Arch adopt it, I will.

Perhaps you can enlighten those of us (me) who can't read the error messages that well? You can just tell me what I need to install/fix in order to get this resolved. I think that is the more effective way of doing things. Thank you
Faster for you in the short run, a PITA for everyone in the long run; you need to learn to help yourself. The error message is extreamely explicit and clear.
Hint: read the output from the bottom up.
I usually can, I just didn't really know where to look in this case. Thanks! I see where to look now. Hat's off!

• [SOLVED] Issue with Google's homepage on Firefox

First off, greetings, I finally decided to give Arch a proper whirl last night. So far everything is going smoothly but I've run into an issue that I just can't seem to solve. In Firefox, google.com looks a bit odd:
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/4932 … 121221.png
Yet in Chromium it looks normal. I'm wondering, is there a plugin that I need to install or something?
Last edited by Axalon (2012-01-22 05:00:04)

That is odd.  It doesn't look broken, instead it looks like a different layout.  I use Firefox and viewed Google just now, and it looks like your second image.  You could try the old standby of clearing the cache, deleting Google's cookies, etc.  you might even try logging in (if you have an account) and see if that sets things right.  I personally boycott Google so I'm not up to date on their various site layouts.

Here's the error message i get when i try to build Firefox :

Any ideas about what a full perl install should be ?

• Issues with Firefox hogging resources...

I have several issues with Firefox intermittently consuming 99-100% of my CPU memory. Now, let me preface this by saying that I am NOT an advanced user, and can only tell you what I see on things like the Task Manager and such. Furthermore, I know that you guys know about some of this stuff - at least, I am pretty sure you do - but I am nowhere near comfortable enough to mess with any command line... stuff... in Firefox. I just am not knowledgeable enough about the program, and I don't want to 'break' it (lol). Anyway, down to business. Here are the issues I am having:
1. Upon startup, Firfox takes between 30 seconds and a minute and a half to load 5 tabs. When I first downloaded and installed it, these same tabs took less than 10 seconds to load. I have tried clearing my cache and history but nothing seems to help. If it matters, I have been using Firefox for going on 5 years now.
2. Once the program has loaded, '''any''' keyboard shortcuts I use in it (ctrl+a, ctrl+c or v, alt=tab, etc) cause the CPU memory usage of Firefox to spike to 99 or 100 percent. In affect, it freezes my computer for anywhere between 2 and 30 seconds, roughly. It does this usually, but not always, and I frequent all the same sites, so the page I am on does not seem to matter.
3. I have noticed that some of the addons I use with Firefox, mainly Multi Links, lag as well when the above issue is occurring. Not sure if the two are connected in any way (also not sure why that feature is not ''built into Firefox to begin with'') and would have checked this but I will not risk not being able to get back here again. See below.
4. This is unrelated, but I felt it merited some small mention. This is effectively my SIXTH attempt at posting my query. The first time, I created an account and it forwarded me to some page basically saying 'Yup, you're logged in alright.' Then it KEPT doing that every time I tried to flesh out and ask my question, until I navigated COMPLETELY away from the page ''four times'' and attempted this one last time. Very frustrating. I even tried going to Live Chat for help, but somehow got off the chat window page and then suddenly chat was closed... right. Anyway, point being, it was difficult to get this posted and it has me even more annoyed. >.<
I have always loved Firefox because it was faster and more reliable than IE. But here recently... it just seems to be going downhill. For instance, I have seen others ask questions about what's going on with the plugin container and that stupid flash plugin - I happen to have that issue rather severely, to the point that I must leave Flash off entirely until I ''have to'' turn it back on (which is wearing down my last nerve, I might add, since I use sites that require that particular plugin daily), and while I did see a couple rather nice solutions about editing/tweaking internal Firefox settings, I must profess that I am nowhere near competent or comfortable enough to even think about attempting them. Furthermore, I do not believe I should be required to make such changes in order to get the program to function properly and risk ruining it completely so that I have to uninstall and reinstall just so I have Firefox. This is all rather exasperating, and judging from the replies I saw on those topics, I do not expect much help here (a couple of people were rather rude on one of those topics, I am afraid I am a minority here, not knowing my way around program language and all =( ). My main goal is to make you aware, if you are not already, that issues exist and if you have tried anything on your end to rectify them, it has not worked for some. I am at my wit's end here, I do not know what else to do to try to solve these issues other than clear cache and history, restart Firefox, so on and so forth. *sigh* I'm seriously thinking about going back to IE, and you have no idea how much that really ticks me off; I think, out of all of this, even all my wasted time, that's what upsets me the most.

Issues of this sort are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like them to be. However, they tend not to be cause by Firefox itself, but rather by software that is running either inside or alongside it, such as add-ons or firewalls. Since these issues have a broad span of possible causes, you need to diagnose your problems before fixing them. Follow these instructions ''to the line'', as they'll probably help you diagnose and fix the problems you're having.
#run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe-mode] to disable all extensions, themes and plugins. If this fixes your problem, be it with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with add-ons (plugins, themes or extensions). Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix your problem, then read bellow, after this list;
#update all extensions (go into ''Tools > Add-ons > Extensions > Find Updates''), themes and plugins (see [https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ this page] in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#disable all extensions, themes and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). This is temporary and for diagnostic purposes only. Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you actually want that plugin to be enabled. It's best to keep the overall number of enabled plugins as low as possible. When you encounter problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all. If you need support for a problematic plugin, you need to contact its author for support;
#enable one extension at a time. Again, be certain that you actually want that extension to be enabled. As with plguins, it's best to keep the overall number of enabled extensions as low as possible. Also, try the theme you want to have installed so see if that is what's causing the problem. When you encounter problems, you know you've found a problematic extension/theme, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all your extensions (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all. Just the same as with plugins, if you need support for a problematic extension/plugin, you need to contact its author;
#if you've followed my instructions above, you're done! You've fixed your problems with problematic add-ons. If you want to keep using those problematic add-ons, please contant their authors for support.
Ok, now... ''If'' disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to fix your problems (or, in other words, if you've just read number 1 on the list above and come straight here), then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Detecting which program it is may be tricky, but the following list should help you. Make sure you follow it carefully. Don't forget to answer the question on the last point, if nothing else helps.
#try reinstalling Firefox. No data will be lost. You can get the latest version (for free, as always) at [http://www.getfirefox.com/ getfirefox.com]. Make sure you [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Uninstalling+Firefox uninstall Firefox] prior to reinstalling it. For help installing Firefox, see [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Installing+Firefox this support article]. If that doesn't fix the problem, proceed;
#do a virus/malware check on your computer. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Is+my+Firefox+problem+a+result+of+malware?s=malware&as=s this support article] for help on this point. ''This is a very important step'', so please pay attention to it. If your problem is not due to viruses/malware, proceed;
#disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in Windows operating systems, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing ''msconfig'' and pressing Enter; now, under the ''Startup'' tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect; if you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix your issues with Firefox, proceed;
#check if your firewall/antivirus/security suite is conflicting in any way with Firefox's normal behavior. Check for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be causing problems with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable them temporarily to see whether or not that's true. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem, it's remotely possible. If this doesn't work, proceed to the following point;
#update your modem/router software. There have been some reports that some modem/router software may cause Firefox and other browsers to loose performance and/or stability. If updating doesn't fix your issue, try other versions of the software, if possible. If you need support with this, contact your modem/router manufacturer. If this doesn't help, proceed;
#if you are using a Windows operating system, clean up your OS registry using appropriate software. There have been reports that badly maintained Windows Registries may case problems with Firefox. If this doesn't help, see the following point;
#please try creating a new temporary Firefox profile ([http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles managing profiles]) and see if the issues persist. Please report the results, so we can help you further.

• Sudden Display issues in Firefox from Dreamweaver-built pages

Hi, first time posting and a novice at Dreamweaver and web design so please bare with me.
I'm an IT administrator for a small charity company and they decided to ask me to build them a website, I bought Dreamweaver in University and had a small try with it but never really used it since.
Now I'm no web designer but I'm trying the best I can, I managed to make a few preliminary pages for use and found they displayed correctly in most browsers apart from IE and Opera.
But Suddenly today - after no editing or alterations since friday (and it displayed fine yesterday on tuesday), it started experiencing the same issues in Firefox this morning for no apparent reason. I assumed that it would be a problem with Firefox but when trying to sign up to Firefox help I meet an "Access Denied" page after clicking to sign up. Now I know there's no point in searching their forums for that issue because of course, how can someone complain they have the problem when the fact they can't get on the forums to post is what's preventing the post in the first place?
I googled both of those issues and turned up nothing, which led me here.
The "Access Denied" at signup issue is obviously not what I'm seeking for here though, but would like to know if anyone else has experienced the issue with the formatting suddenly displaying incorrectly in browsers when they worked fine before?
Like I said, I'm a complete novice at web design and dreamweaver so feel free to tell me the coding in the website is pants, I know it is but it does (did!) the job in most browsers.
Any help at all would be appreciated.
Faultlessdark
www.guidonsupportservices.org.uk
PS. For an ironic laugh - note the "This website is best displayed in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome" at the bottom of the page

My advice, although negative, would be to stay clear unless you are confident and capable of using html and css. Dreamweaver won't do the job for you and you will be biting off more than you can chew.
Having said that I've made the necessary changes so that your page will work in all browers. Just copy the whole html code and css below, paste into a new Dreamweaver document and save to your site root folder.
Do not mix measurements i.e., width 43em, padding 15px etc. I would advise staying with px based measurements as measurements are critical to if the site works or not. I don't know what 43em + 15px makes but I do know what 170px + 15px makes. I have changed the width of the containers in your code to px.

/* Tips for Elastic layouts
1. Since the elastic layouts overall sizing is based on the user's default fonts size, they are more unpredictable. Used correctly, they are also more accessible for those that need larger fonts size since the line length remains proportionate.
2. Sizing of divs in this layout are based on the 100% font size in the body element. If you decrease the text size overall by using a font-size: 80% on the body element or the #container, remember that the entire layout will downsize proportionately. You may want to increase the widths of the various divs to compensate for this.
3. If font sizing is changed in differing amounts on each div instead of on the overall design (ie: #sidebar1 is given a 70% font size and #mainContent is given an 85% font size), this will proportionately change each of the divs overall size. You may want to adjust based on your final font sizing.

• Gmail usernames and passwords not displaying correctly - is the issue with Firefox?

I have 3 email accts and when I click username in Gmail those 3 would show and passwords would be remembered automatically. Now it shows these 3 and 2 others that have been used before, plus NO passwords displayed. In the past if this happened I refreshed page and it went back to the 3 accts - this is no longer happening. Could it be a firefox issue?
Also my autofill in Gmail is no longer working and I have seen other inquiries about that. Is there any info on how to fix these???

This is a known issue in Firefox 4 beta 12. You could wait til' the RC comes out, or you could grab one of the latest nightly builds availible here that fix this problem: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-central/
Just a note though, nightly versions of firefox are generally less stable than betas or releases. I am waiting for the Release Candidate to come out myself. (Should be early next week)

• [solved: zotero problem] Firefox: "uri.host is explosive!"

I have an issue in Firefox (probably since the update to 26.0). I am using Mozilla's 64 bit build with a Welsh language interface.
When I navigate to certain sites, Firefox shows me the loading... forever. If I click on another firefox window or tab, it is entirely blank grey - no tabs, no tool or status bar, no menus, no nothing. If I return to the original tab or window, it is now also blank. The only thing I can do is kill the programme. The links which cause these errors seem to all involve javascript but not all javascript triggers the problem.
Looking in ~/.xsession-errors, I see that I get
uri.host is explosive!
(about:blank)
Could not check applicable rules for about:blank
This is preceded by a javascript error which varies according to the particular site. I can post examples if that would be helpful - right now I'm picking out what is common to all the cases.
Searching for this error, I found a couple of things but they don't seem generally applicable to my case. An opensuse thread concerned somebody who saw the problem in all browsers but I don't see the issue in chromium. Moreover, that thread concerned mismatching packages and left-over remnants of outdated packages and I'm 99% positive that doesn't apply in my case. An Ubuntu thread here suggests that the explosive error indicates a malicious site. However, I'm sure these sites are not malicious unless University of Chicago Press and JSTOR have moved over to the Dark Side. Also, that thread included no followup or resolution so isn't much help. And that's it. Only two results. Varying the terms a little, I got a third result in a language I can't understand but which looked like a translation of the Ubuntu one.
Does anybody have any immediate ideas before I start pulling Firefox apart, which is next on my list of troubleshooting steps? In particular, what does the explosive error indicate and what rules does it want for about:blank?

No, I didn't. Thank you (and I wonder why my search didn't find it since that string is certainly included in those pages!).
So that's probably not why I get the problem. Oh, well, back to bug hunting.
EDIT: Damn. Now I'm home, I can't reproduce the problem. The difference is I'm now authenticating to access the site I tested but that seems more precarious than otherwise. No idea...

• I am having some serious issues with firefox, i can't print anything because it is stuck on fax and I can't use any of the drop down menus on any site

I am having some serious issues with firefox to the point of choosing another search engine. I can't print anything because it is stuck on fax and won't let me change it to my printer when i do try to select my printer it jumps right back to fax. The drop down menus do not work on any of the sites I go to. For example when purchasing clothes and you have to choose a size from a drop down menu I can't do it when I click on the drop down menu it doesn't work at all. I don't have a virus I ran my virus protector and no viruses are present. I don't have any suspicious issues going on with my computer so there has to be something in Firefox that is causing my issues. I tried internet explorer and I don't have any issues there. I hope you can help me because I love Firefox and would really like to continue to use it.

Lots of issues there, main one getting fcpx going again, try deleting the preferences using the utility deveoped by these guys.

Try deleting your render files and re-rendering the project.

• Using latest version of fireFox to access Think Central, pages will not load and they say that this is a security issue with FireFox?

Teachers in our district are supposed to use www.thinkcentral.com with FireFox.
Some have no problem accessing the lesson plans.
Most when they login click on a lesson plan and an icon shows up that says loading but never does.
If you reboot the computer and login you can open a page once but not a second time and no other lessons will open.
Think Central support says this is a security issue with Firefox.
I have updated FireFox, all the Adobe, Reader, Flash, Air and Shockwave. As well as Java.
I have allowed the pop ups to the think Central web site.
Any help would be appreciated

Are there any notification icons on the left end of the address bar? If so, please click them to see whether they related to security issues (such as blocked content - shield icon: [[How does content that isn't secure affect my safety?]]) or a plugin requiring permission (Lego-like icon).
Does Think Central have any help pages about this issue? Without an account, it is difficult to explore the issue first-hand.

• I'm having a lot of issues with firefox and cannot figure out how to get help. It began when I updated to 13. I get all kinds of ad popups, I cannot play one

I'm having a lot of issues with firefox and cannot figure out how to get help. It began when I updated to 13. I get all kinds of ad popups, I cannot play one game on FaceBook called Farm Town at all, and I keep getting an AVG popup about cookies that I cannot get rid of. These issues are causing me to use Chrome very often even though I like Fox better. I've searched and searched how to get help and cannot find anything. How does one get personal technical help?? These issues do not happen in Chrome at all. Thanks.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

More than likely you can get the phone back by doing a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot.

• [SOLVED]Awesome build process gets stuck

Hi there Archers,
When I try to build the latest version of Awesome it manages to install all the dependencies, but when it comes to actually building awesome it consistently gets stuck on the following line:
Scanning dependencies of target man
[ 57%] Generating manpages/man1/awesome.1.xml
[ 57%] Generating manpages/man1/awesome.1
It stays there indefinitely.
On the AUR-page for this package I got the advice that running makepkg with root privileges might solve the problem, but I don't think this is a proper solution. Posts from Bionic_Apple seem to have some connection to my problem.
With my limited understanding of the make files inside the build directory, I've concluded that it all looks OK, but that doesn't stop it from freezing half-way through the process.
Any ideas on how I could make the install finish that doesn't involve root privileges?

Solved by building as root in a chroot environment.

• After I updated to Firefox 5.0, I am unable to access my TalkTalk Webmail Inbox. Talktalk say that there are 'issues' with Firefox 5. Any suggestions???

I can login to the Talktalk Tiscali webmail site. However I cannot access the mail folders such as Inbox etc. My contact with Talktalk is not very satisfactory and they state that there is an issue with Firefox 5 and that I should use another Browser. When I try with Google Chrome, I can indeed access the mail folders as before so there is an ISSUE with Firefox 5.

Apparently TalkTalk mail will work with Firefox 4 and Firefox 5 ''if'' you set the browser to ''lie'' to TalkTalk mail by saying that you are still using version 3.6.
You can find the instructions for that in a post on the TalkTalk forums: [http://www.talktalk.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=185113#post2452787 Firefox 4 & TalkTalk webmail - Forums].
Note: when you open about:config the first time, it will display a warning message that you should be careful with the changes you make. That's definitely good to bear in mind.
Does it work?
