[solved] KDE 4.11 Terminal does no longer work

After updating to KDE 4.11 (among other packages) the terminal/console does no longer work. It's still loading, but basically I can only see a blank and that's it.
I already moved the .kde4 folter because that has lead to problems in the past when updating to new version of KDE 4 but that didn't do it.
Any ideas appreciated, thanks!

Couple of things to check:
You are using Outlook 2003, 2007 or 2010
You have selected to sync Calendars and Contacts with Outlook on the Info tab of your iTunes sync settings
You have selected your Outlook calendar as the default claendar on your iPhone (in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Calendar)
If all that is correct and iTunes still won't sync correctly, you might have to try reinstalling Outlook. Another option is to enable iCloud syncing with Outlook (see http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/). This requires Outlook 2007 or 2010. If you decide to sync using iCloud but sure to disable contacts and calendar syncing in iTunes on the Info tab of your sync settings. Do not try to sync with both Outlook and iCloud or you will end up with duplicates in your contacts and calendar.
For syncing Ringtones confirm that:
The file is really a ringtone (right-click the file in iTunes, select Get Info, on the Summary tab it should say "Kind: Ringtone".
You have checked each of the ringtones you want to sync
You have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos" on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings
You have checked Sync Tones on the Tones tab of your iTunes sync settings

You mention that your iPod nano is no longer recognized by iTunes after an update. Reinstalling iTunes is a good troubleshooting step, and if the device still doesn't appear in iTunes, try the following steps next:
Turn off your computer and your iOS device or iPod, then turn them on again.
Check to make sure that you've installed all required updates for your computer.
Verify that the 30-pin to USB cable or Lightning Connector to USB cable is free of debris and not damaged. If another cable is available, test with that cable instead.
USB cables that are bundled with third-party products or accessories might work only to charge those products and might not transmit data. Also, if you're using a third-party case or extended battery pack, try removing the case and connecting the Apple-supplied USB cable directly to your device.
You can find these steps in this troubleshooting article:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
If the steps above don't solve it, see the section of the article called "Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed" for some additional steps to try on your PC.

If your charger is defective, it will be replaced by Apple. As to your warranty, here in the US the warranty on iPhone is 1 year. I wasn't aware it is two years in Italy?

[SOLVED]Laptop Internal SD card reader no longer working

Two weeks ago I purchased a Raspberry Pi and set up my own SD card with Arch Linux ARM using the directions at http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/raspberry-pi with the internal SD card reader on my laptop and had no issues. Today I decided to load up a XBMC distro to a new SD card, but my internal card reader doesn't seem to autodetect or mount my new card. I tried inserting my other card with Arch ARM that I know is a good card, but it no longer works with that card either. Here are all my logs that I could think of to post for any advice:

It seems I have all the necessary information, but I am not sure where to go from here. It's obvious my laptop is detecting the card being inserted and removed, but the card reader is never listed in /dev so I can't mount it. It's listed under lspci but not under lsusb. I'm assuming that it was two weeks ago and that's why it worked, but I'm not sure how to get lsusb to detect it so it will work again. Thanks for any help you guys have.

You'll need to take or send the iPod in for service or repair either via Apple or a third party company that does repair work on iPods.

thanks for reading my blog, it was the first one I've ever done and thought it would be good to start with a technical post like this.
where I wrote about the fixing disk issues during startup repair... this was because I think I messed up partitioning the disk the first attempt to fix this problem, I was left with 16MB unallocated space in the middle... the second time I tried the
whole procedure it worked flawlessly
I think with Windows 7 the recovery part was included in the main OS partition and the System 100MB was the boot partition, but this varied depending on whether you configured bitlocker (or was that vista the unspeakable, I cant remember).
my installation was first windows 8 fresh install, then upgrade to 8.1 through the store.... the initial setup process did all the disk partitioning for me which is why I find that it was odd for it not to work after the upgrade.
and yes I do care about windows backup because for a free image based backup I think it's rather cool, they probably are trying to get rid of it because only about 5% of users know about it and use it, but I don't see the problem if they are maintaining
it in the server edition - it's the same code to make the feature!
would still love to hear from Microsoft perhaps, why are these winre.wim files such varying sizes, what's different in them and why is an MBR and GPT recovery partition differently sized?

I followed the one fix that was posted.
I added radeon.new_pll=0 to my kernel boot line in grub.cfg and added
options radeon new_pll=0
in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon.conf
However when I boot I get an error which says radeon: Unknown parameter 'new_pll=0' and then X wont start, any idea why this might be happening? i've been trying to solve this problem for quite some time.

I also got this to work in debian/ubuntu based distros installing "fglrx-driver" which makes 0 sense because fglrx doesn't support R600 cards.

[SOLVED] upgraded to Systemd, BCM4312 wireless no longer working

Hello,
I just finished upgrading my netbook to Systemd, and to my dismay the wireless stopped working.
lspci -vnn | grep 14e4 reveals that I have a Broadcom BCM4312 LP-PHY rev01.
I believe I was using the Linux kernel driver before with no issues, but now I have tried loading brcmsmac and it's not working.
The kernel driver used to load automatically.
iwconfig shows nothing with a wireless extension, and ip link doesn't even show my wireless NIC. I don't see any issues in journalctl as far as I can tell.
B43 and SSB are blacklisted.
Has anyone else had this problem since upgrading? Any ideas?
I would prefer the linux driver vs broadcom-wl if it can be avoided.

Are your vendor ID:Product ID not 14e4:4315 ?? That device is supported by b43. I would not consider using anything but the b43 driver.
Regardless. be aware that your device probably changed names and may no longer be wlan0. Perhaps that is your real problem.
Were I you, I would reconfigure to again use b43, then check the output of ip link do find your device names.

Is it true that Thunderbird does no longer works well with POP mail servers and only works well with IMAP servers?

Our email host is telling us that our outdated POP mail server doesn't work well with Thunderbird and it the reason we're having sporadic difficulty sending out emails with attachments when using Thunderbird (no problems when sending emails directly from the email host's web portal and bypassing Thunderbird). We'll often get notification when using Thunderbird and trying to attach PDF'd documents to an email that "Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server timed out." The email host company is advising that this problem will be solved if we upgrade from the free POP email to the not free IMAP email. True? Or are they just using this Thunderbird problem as an excuse to sign us up for unnecessary services?

I think they are using this as an excuse.
Messages are sent via SMTP. Both, POP and IMAP are protocols to receive mail.
In any case, it would be '''their''' 'outdated POP mail server', not yours.

Add-on Extension "sslPersonas" does no longer work correctly.

After update to Firefox 20, add-on "SSLpersonas" no longer turns Firefox browser green, blue or orange when accessing secure or insecure websites as it used to do. This helped to know when on ssl secured website. Also in Add-on Manager under Appearence, Ssl Broken, Ssl Domain Certificate and Ssl Extended Certificate are no longer enabled and can not be enabled. Can these all be recovered to previous situationregarding Firefox and SslPersonas Add-On?
Note - Firefox in Private Browsing mode. Can not disable this either.

I made this same complaint issue back on version 13 moving to other versions of firefox. Firefox should display the Green , blue colours by default as they did in version 13. It should be built into Firefox. The new version after version 13 only show a weak coloured text which is difficult to see. However other browsers like Opera, chrome do have the proper visual coloring.

Flashplayer does no longer work after reboot

Hello and much apreciated if you can look into this.
I need to install flasplayer everyday to get it working.
Which is very odd, because in the folder of sys32 macromed and syswow64 macromed all the files are there.
But for some unknown reason they dont see to work.
i tried setting permission for the OCX files in both folders but that had no effect either
If you could help me much apreciated, since reinstalling everyday can get quite annoying.

The one i get from downloading from the website is called (install_flashplayer11x32_mssd_aih)
I assume this is the 32 bit version, however ill wait till i get confirmation

[SOLVED] Postgis no longer working after upgrade of postgresql

Dear all,
after yesterdays upgrade of postgresql-server and libs to 9.0.1 the postgis package does no longer work. When trying to import postgis.sql (version 1.5) it always complains about wrong libraries version:

I have double checked on postgresql and postgis documents that the versions should be compatible:
postgresql 9.0.1-2
postgresql-libs 9.0.1-2
postgis 1.5.1-1
For all databases dump and restore was fine, except for my gis databases. So upgrade from 8.4.4 to 9.0.1 worked in general.
Any ideas?

"Unfortunately" I did not have enough time to give it a try and rebuild the package.
So today I found that there is already a new version of postgis available which works perfectly fine!

Hyperlinks no longer work after I view photos

I have created a website, and for the particular page I used the preset photo gallery option. I created a text hyperlink at the bottom of the page and it works as I want it to except after I click on any photo in the album. Once I click on the photo, I click on "Back to Album" and go to test the link. There is no colour change, no change of my cursor, or any other change that is supposed to happen regarding a hyperlink. The hyperlinks at the top of the page, linking to the other pages of the website, work without a hitch. Also, the hyperlink is a "Back to top" type of link, it links back to the same page. Any help is greatly appreciated!
