[SOLVED] KDE4.10 appmenu-qt and appmenu-gtk: GTK dosent work?

My system is all up to date with KDE 4.10.
I have installed appmenu-qt
and aur/appmenu-gtk with all dependencies, such as gtk2-ubuntu & gtk3-ubuntu.
I have gone into the System Settings and in the Fine Tuning tab of Oxygen I selected "Menubar style: Top screen menubar"
This Top screen menubar works very well with all QT apps. However, FireFox and Thunderbird are not sending their menus to the top screen menubar.
I have also manually added, "gtk-shell-shows-menubar=1" to the end of ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini ...but still no luck.
Any ideas?

Okay, I have all those extensions installed now.
FireFox LibreOffice and Gimp all work, but Thunderbird still dose not want to. Thunderbird dose show the Global Menu Bar Integration extension. Maybe it is conflicting with some other add-on or extension. I did notice that all GTK apps seem to take a moment before the menus switch, so it seems possible to me that a small conflict could make it not work.
In any case, I can live with Thunderbird menus not moving up there. I'll mark this thread Solved. I am sure Thunderbird will work for others with this extension.

sometimes the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
But as much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)

I had the same issue. I tried everything unchecking / rechecking, formatting Iphone and restoring from backup etc etc.
In the end it was a simple issue which might of might not help you.
A number of months ago I relocated by Itunes folder to a NAS drive. It appears when I did the last I tunes update Itunes set the destination path of the Itunes media to the default location, the result was Itunes couldn't install music,apps, video until I set the correct destination path.
The bit that confused me was it was transferring some media. This was of course the media I had downloaded since the last Itunes update which had gone to the default location.
I hope that makes sense and is off some help.

A locate libplasma comes up with versions 3 and 4 but no 2 and a pacman -Qo tells me libplasma is part of kdebase-workspace which is prolly hard to downgrade (but what do I know!).
Not that I hate emerald, but I do prefer kde4
Any ideas out there?

Okay, so now I know which package it belongs to. Thing is, I'm already proud that I've achieved that! As for compiling against the current plasma lib, I'm afraid I haven't got a clue what you are talking about (but more than willing to learn if some compassionate soul will hold my hand or point me in the right direction).

[SOLVED] lib32-libgpg-error and lib32-libgcrypt no longer working

The Dell 1320c printer requires a workaround of using it with a FujiXerox DocuPrint C525a driver, which only exists for 32bit systems. In order to get it running, you need to manually copy the files to the proper locations. With the new upgrade on both of those packages (lib32-libgpg-error and lib32-libgcrypt) the filter file /usr/lib/cups/filters/FXM_PF no longer runs, and complains about "wrong ELFCLASS64", which I take it to mean it's not recognizing/finding the lib32 packages. I've since downgraded and added the packages to the IgnorePkg array in pacman.conf, but I wanted to point it out to anyone who may have the same issue, or in case it was an error with the generation of the packages. Or is there simply a dependency that hasn't yet been updated?

Smart thinking, I didn't think to check the size of the packages. Same thing here, lib32-libgcrypt is 4Kb vs 240Kb (working package), and lib32-libgpg-error is 4Kb vs 8Kb (working package). For the lib32-libgpg-error it might be due to the new compression format, but I doubt that. I doubt very much that .xz compression can result in a change of 1/60th the original size for lib32-libgcrypt.

[SOLVED] icon-theme.cache and post install

Hi all,
after a problem with an app (in this case RawTherapee) that requires uptodate icon-theme.cache files under /usr/share/icons/THEME - I just want to ask for your opinion: Is this a feature that should be provided by the icon-theme package post install?
For example, xfce4-icon-theme has
post_install() {
gtk-update-icon-cache -q -t -f usr/share/icons/Rodent
in it's xfce4-icon-theme.install,
while gnome-icon-theme and hicolor-icon-theme don't and require issueing gtk-update-icon-cache manually after installation/update.
So what do you think, does this call for a feature request?
Edit: Seems like I got the concept wrong and that a solution is not that simple / on the segfaulting programs side... see http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/14237. Thx Jan for explaining.

Apparently gtk-update-icon-cache didn't accept that i had a .icon-theme.cache in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/. After removing it gtk-update-icon-cache apparently created a new file "icon-theme.cache" and doesn't complain anymore. The thing that is wierd about this is that on my other comp i have the .icon-theme.cache and it doesn't complain when upgrading.. Marking this solved anyway

[Solved] Removing "Recently Used" and "Search" Entries from Open/Save

Each time I save or open a document, the dialog box defaults to "Recently Used". What I'm wanting to find out is how to get rid of the entry from the "Places" bar altogether. I understand that the entry was put there with good intentions, but it seems to always amount to an extra step. The best example is when I use "Save As". I will type the name of the file and since the dialog has automatically put me under "Recently Used", I have to then navigate to where I want to save or the "Please select a folder below" error will appear. Had the dialog defaulted to the home folder, this stumbling block could be eliminated.
I realize there is probably some fundamental knowledge I'm not aware of and don't know exactly what to search for. I'm using Openbox and have the core XFCE applications installed, but I don't know if this is a GTK issue, xdg, or what. All of my searches point to getting rid of ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel, but I'm not concerned with that and already have a transparent panel launcher that handles it.
I have found a post in this forum that addresses the same issue, but it has gone unresolved also:

This user mentions a directory hack that is resolving the issue for now, barring any other solution, I'd like to know exactly what that is, as I can't seem to find the answer to that either.

I haven't made many patches for things and you'll need to type in the file name when you apply it, but this will work for the current gtk2 package:

Hi! I'm fede1587 and I'm a new user of Archlinux (but not a new user of Linux). I love it and the KISS philosophy.
Four days ago I intalled the new version of Arch but unfortunately I have a very big problem and after 4 days of work I have not been able to solve it.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW41J with a ATI HD4650. I need Ati proprietary drivers, because with the open source ones, the laptop become too hot. After installing the catalyst legacy pakages (234k, catalyst-utils and catalyst-hook) both from AUR and from the repository (following the great guide in ArchWiki) and configuring, when I lanunch startx, sometimes Gnome starts and sometimes I got black screen with horizontal lines.
I'm searching for solutions from 4 days and I read a lot of topic, and I try a lot of things, but nothing!
Accourding to the various threads, I have:
1) Load the module fglrx
2) Blacklist the radeon module
3) Re-run mkinitcpio
4) Run aticonfig --initial
5) Run aticonfig --acpi-services=off
6) Add nomodeset to grub
After I tried to change kernel (thinking about some incompatibilities). I installed linux-lts, and I try with this kernel, but I have the same issue. I also try whit Bridge Linux, but nothing changed.

[SOLVED] Problem with modules and udev

Hi everybody,
I've been configuring Arch on my new laptop the last few days and today as I was going to perform the first backup, I noticed that my external HDD does not show up in /dev/ when I plug it in. I figured it could be a problem with udev and the fact that in my /etc/rc.conf I use MOD_AUTOLOAD="no" with an explicit list of MODULES generated with hwdetect (as suggested in the wiki).
To "solve" this I just changed MOD_AUTOLOAD to "yes" and after a reboot everything worked fine.
My questions are:
1) Is it possible to keep that feature (udev detects usb drives and creates the corresponding /dev/sdX) while having MOD_AUTOLOAD="no" ? What is/are the appropriate module(s) I have to put in my MODULES array ?
2) What other such "basic" MODULES could be very useful that hwdetect does not tell about.

At first my computer had issues. Once it go to sleep it will not back again. I dropped my laptop at apple store to fix it. After 10 days they returned my laptop saying they were no able to fix the problem so they replaced motherboard aiming if that might help. Acttually that didn't help.I had same issue again. I visited apple store again. This time they said they could fix, if I will allow them to format the harddrive. I said ok. They formatted it. It was working fine for few daysAfter few days compter is taking.even more than 15 min to shutdown. Now computer has another problem. It is being hang frequently like every 20'to.30 min.
I don't know what to do? I still have one month left on first year warranty. I have requested couple times to apple associates either to fix or replace or refund. They are showing me rude behavior. They are not understanding my situation. I am a student. I need to do lot of home work. Since last three month my mac book and apple associates giving me hard time. Any suggestions are welcome.

Contact Apple Customer Care - not Apple Care - Customer Support. Have your receipts handy and/or case numbers. Be patient, be calm, and tell your story just as you have here. I get the sense you are not in the US and don't have access to an Apple Store but are going to an independent shop. This makes using Customer Support all the more important. If phoning isn't viable, use registered mail.
Since time is running short, be prepared to purchase AppleCare to exennd your warranty 2 more years. Yes, you shouldn't have to do this, but it gives you added protection and more opportunities over the next 2 years to claim a replacement computer if you don't get one immediately. After dealing with a similar unhappy situation with a Mac in the late 1990s I finally got a replacement computer and reimbursed for the AppleCare policy.

If Apple's service database says that your iPhone was replaced, then Apple will no longer provide any service for that phone.
First, get a new SIM from your cell carrier and see if that corrects the problem. If it does not, try the usual steps for addressing software problems: restart, reset, restore.

If you try restoring from a backup and that doesn't fix the problem, try restoring to factory settings and, if the problem goes away, then sync back your apps and content. I'm improved the messaging from my udsks script, so you'll know now why an unmount fails.
Also, I've dropped notify-send in favour of zenity, though you can easily change it to use another notification program like dzen2 (which I prefer). This last change came about to avoid the problems caused by the implementation of Gnome3 and GTK3.

[SOLVED] Issues with GRUB and rc.conf

I've just performed a full system upgrade and I've found these errors:
-> When I restart my system, GRUB doesn't load at all. It takes severak seconds until it displays "GRUB Stage 1.5" and right after that it then enters in a loop displaying the message until forever

and so on.
It only happens when I restart the system from my DE. If I turn off and on the system everythings works fine again. I've also tried to reinstall grub but the problem persists, Any idea on this issue??
-> I use Xfce4 as my desktop enviroment and after the upgrade it ignores the KEYMAP entry in my rc.conf file. It is set to "es" but somehow it uses a us layout. I can change the layout in the Xfce menu but why is this happening? Why is it ignoring the rc.conf file?

[Solved] EEE PC 701 and Sound

Hi,
I've just installed my first ArchLinux distribution on my eee 701.
This distribution offers the exact level of control/confort I wanted.
As instructed, I've installed the dedicated kernel for eee pc (kernel-eee) which is built witch every needed driver directly in the kernel.
(Anyway, this is the unique configuration for which I manged to have wifi working. With "normal" kernel, wifi was not working, neither with madfiwi, nor with ath5k)
The probleme is that with this kernel, I cannot have the sound working.
With the ARCH kernel, it was working well, after, i've added
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-dig
to modprobe.conf
But, of course, with the "monolithic" EEE kernel, this line is useless, since the snd-hda-intel is not a module, but is built in the kernel.
So, there is my newbie's question : is there a way to pass this option to the built-in hda-intel driver of the kernel-eee ?
Or else, is the a way to have sound working with kernel-eee ?

Well why not ? (hum, I guess you could say : "because you want sound" ;-))
My first reason is that I did not manage to have wifi running with the stock kernel. Ath5K and madwifi (ath_pci) refuse to work (exactly as if the link were down : no complaint when I load the module, the interface is (are for madwifi) visible. But impossible to do anything with it). But I must admit that I've not tried very hard, since I supposed that eee-kernel was intended to be used.
Which is my second reason : I suppose that if an eee-kernel is existing, and maintained, it is supposed to work better on eee than generic kernel.
3rd reason : the boot is really faster with eee-kernel (which is absolutely not surprising)
4th reason : why not ? I'm sure that there are many ways to have my sound card working. You could even have asked "Why don't you install the last KUbuntu ; it works well on eee". Well, because I don't want to. I want to have my eee laptop working with archlinux and the eee-kernel :-D
I suppose that this kernel should work correctly with eee (or else, I don't see the point), hence my question. If the answer "eee-kernel cannot handle sound" (which would surprise me), of course, I will have to try another solution, such as recompiling another kernel (I will do this sooner or later anyway). But else, I would like to know how to use it ^^
