[SOLVED][KDE5] Can't get quick launch?
Hey,
I recently upgrade to kde5 and I can't seem to find a way to add quick launch button to the panel. It used to be the case in kde4 that you have a quick launch widget that you can put on the panel and then add applications on it. Now I can't do that, and I can't find a solution. I googled for a while and saw couple of people mentioning that they can't get quick launch but no solutions. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Nick

Ok thanks, that works! Unfortunately it only works with classical start menu, not with the default so I didn't notice it...
Maybe I should report it to KDE.
Cheers,
Nick

Can I get Quick time video on iPad 2? Specifically, when I receive an email with quicktime on it, it will not play on the iPad.
Hello. I have AV player hd. When I touch and hold the Quicktime icon that is in a received mail message, a prompt comes up "Open in AVPlayerHD". I click on that and a black screen opens up with the following on it:
1--A red line at the top with a short white slider button on the right hand side. There is a time listed at each end of the red line that says 00:00
2--On the left hand side of the screen, near the middle, there are 4 icons, a colored 'x', a dialogue icon, a circular arrow and an 'i' in a circle.
3--On the right hand side there is a + and a - sign with '1.00x' in the middle of the two.
4--At the bottom of the black screen is a play icon plus forward and fast forward icons.
When I press the play icon it changes to a stop icon.
So, even though I have AV player I cannot play this Quicktime slideshow.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -

Hei Carolina
Just want to tell u that i got help now, and everything is fine. Maybe u should try to give them more information about the following:
When asking questions or reporting Flash Player problems, please do:

[SOLVED] I can't get virtual hosts working. What's wrong?
What I've decided to do is try to set up each domain name in the user folder to whom it belongs (for example: /home/username/somedomain.com/htdocs). I can't get it to work though. I keep getting an error saying that there's no index file (although there is) or that the location isn't readable (although it is). I'm trying to make it so that if the domain name matches with a virtual host section in httpd-vhosts.conf that a specific DocumentRoot will be loaded for that domain, etc. But, if the domain name points to my server but doesn't match, then I want the default location to work. I can't seem to make this work.
This is my http.conf:
ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"

So, for example, I want it to be so that if I visit http://45.117.5.40 that it'll show the stuff ftom /srv/http/default/htdocs but if the domain name matches somedomain.com then I want the server to show the content from /home/normaluser/somedomain.com/htdocs.
What currently happens is that if I visit http://45.117.5.40 or somedomain.com, they both show the same content from /srv/http/default/htdocs.
If I comment out the first VirtualHost section, then everything stops working and I see the default "Access forbidden!" message.
What am I doing wrong?
Last edited by trusktr (2012-04-13 06:15:41)I fixed it. In case any newbs come across this, I had to add a new <Directory> section for the DocumentRoot of the virtual host. Simply adding the VirtualHost entry in the vhosts file isn't enough.
For example, for the "somedomain.com" vhost in the example above to work, I added this to http.conf:
#This must match with the same location as DocumentRoot in httpd-vhost.conf.
<Directory "/home/normaluser/somedomain.com/htdocs">
#Put whatever directives you want in here
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride All
Order allow,deny
Allow from all

[SOLVED] httrack - Can't get its GUI webhttrack to work
I installed httrack v.3.41.3-1 from extra but can't get webhttrack, the GUI frontend, to work. Running webhttrack as root gives me the following error message: "/usr/bin/webhttrack(17566): could not find httrack directory". There seem to be a whole lot of files missing in the httrack package in extra that are present in the original source package httrack-3.41-3.tar.gz from http://www.httrack.com.
How can I get httrack to run in its GUI?

Solved network can't get wifi working on acer 571G
Hi I have been fiddlin for past day on the issues with not luck. The problem was initially I can't get wifi connection to work, ethernet is fine. I am using dhcpcd and networkmanager and the kde plasma applet. I have also used nmtui. Networkmanager picks up available connections and I have entered correct password but no good. Can't get wifi activated. Wired connection is fine. I will give you some details of both hardware and network.

Last edited by leonax (2014-11-19 23:15:09)After another day of trying I think I have NetworkManager working but not sure how good, especially when I don't have a clue what I am doing I have read, re read wireless and networkmanager wikis and it was not until I looked for a step by step guide that I found this http://evilshit.wordpress.com/2012/09/1 … th-gnome3/. Although for gnome it is much the same for kde where you install kde plasma nm-applet. In this article it did specically state to remove all dhcpcd services.
In the NetworkManager wiki I did state " Note: You must ensure that no other service that wants to configure the network is running; in fact, multiple networking services will conflict. You can find a list of the currently running services with systemctl --type=service and then stop them." However it was not until I read the evilshit article that I found out dhcpcd had to be removed. For newbies wikis need to be more specific. Enspecially I think setting up ethernet and wireless connections.

[SOLVED] I can't get X to run correctly after new install
Hi all,
Over the last few days I have been trying to get Arch Linux installed on an old computer that I have. The only major hurdle that I have had so far has been getting wireless to work (no wired connection available here). I got that sorted out yesterday though with a bit of research
I haven't been so lucky getting X to run though. Following the Beginners' Guide, I have gotten up to the part where I have to configure and test X. This is what I have done so far:
Basically I have tried to use Xorg -configure to auto-create an Xorg.conf, which seemed to work (as in, the file got created and looked okay).
I then set up hotplugging with HAL, setting up everything as it says in the Beginner's guide.
When I ran the Xorg test with X -config /etc/X11/xorg.conf, I got a black screen with no mouse or anything.
I rechecked xorg.conf to make sure the driver was correct (it's set to "radeon" which seems to be right). I also checked the horizontal and vertical refresh are set correctly - which they were (autodetected correctly by Xorg -configure).
I then had a look through the Xorg page on the wiki, but nothing much there seemed to help.
I then decided to not use hotplugging with HAL, so I removed it from starting at startup and set up my xorg.conf to have the autoadddevices as false.
After that, I am having the exact same problem when I run the Xorg test (X -config /etc/X11/xorg.conf).
I really have no clues as to what to do now, does anyone have any tips for an Arch Linux n00b?
My graphics are provided onboard by an ATI RS480 (Radeon Xpress 200G Series). I am using the "radeon" driver, provided by the xf86-video-ati package. My screen is an LG FLATRON L246WH.
My relevant config files are:
xorg.conf xorg.conf
~/xinitrc doesn't exist for me.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old isn't able to be uploaded by wgetpaste for some reason... Using the verbose switch indicates that it's saving to /dev/null. I'll keep trying to work out how to get this file uploaded somewhere... it's quite long - 881 lines.
Last edited by NovaAesa (2009-08-09 04:16:51)Did you miss the step to copy the skeleton .xinitrc to your home directory? Please do this. Then try starting X as a normal user, not root.
You can also try starting the Xserver without any xorg.conf file as jdiez has done. That works for many people.
To lessen your copy and paste problems, and to help you sort out the logfile, try the following two commands as a normal user in your home directory:
grep "(EE)" /var/log/Xorg.0.log > xorg_faults
grep "(WW)" /var/log/Xorg.0.log >> xorg_faults
This will locate the log lines displaying errors (EE) and then warnings (WW) and write them to the file ~/xorg_faults. Errors will be listed first. This file should be much smaller than the original Xorg.0.log.
For hot-plugging and HAL, make sure you have dbus installed.
pacman -Q dbus
If it's not there, you should install it with pacman. HAL is supposed to start dbus, but I'm a belt and suspenders person, so I list dbus then hal in my /etc/rc.conf daemons.
The wiki also has an article on Xorg that may be of help to you.

[SOLVED] I can't get rar to work.
Hi all,
I've installed rar and followed the wiki and I still can't extract. I just get "bash: rar: command not found"
Can anyone provide any assistance?
Last edited by guriinii (2010-09-24 11:47:13)How exactly did you install rar?
'unrar' package provides a means of extracting rar archives, but it's not the same as the 'rar' package (which enables you to both create and extract rar archives). The former is available in the official repos, the latter isn't.
You can add
[archstuff]
# AUR's most voted packages
Server = http://archstuff.vs169092.vserver.de/i686
to your pacman.conf, run 'pacman -Syy' and 'pacman -S rar' to install 'rar' package.
Alternatively, you can call unrar instead of rar in the extract script.
If it still doesn't work, post again.

Can't get quick time to work with windows thumbnail
When I purchased a new camera, unlike my old camera that saved files as .avi and which allowed me to use the files with all software and which allowed me to view automatically the thumbnails for the .avi file, my new camera used the garbage .mov from apple. Result: i can't see what the files contains... NO thumbnails in windows! I was told to buy QUick time Pro to be apple to do this. I did what the quicktime "help" (misnomer) said to do: set poster frame, resave the file (try to save it as is, or as quick time mover). THIS DIDN'T WORKED. There was Ø supplementary information. The only thing that works is MANUALLY converting all my .mov from the camera to .avi using quicktime pro. I paid CAD$39 FOR absolutely NOTHING. Any suggestions?
<Edited by Moderator>Please review the "stickied" threads near the top of this board, about syncing with Windows 7 and Vista. It's all there.
After you've been through and tried everything there is to try, and still have problems, please post back with specific info about exactly what you've tried, what version of Windows 7 you have (32-bit or 64-bit), etc.

I am running Parallels and Quickbooks on my macbook. After an unfortunate encounter with macprotector (I didn't install it) which I was able to get off my computer, I now cannot access Quickbooks. It is trying to open it (unsuccessfully) in my Disk Utility. Any suggestions?
I figured this out. There is an extra step now which I assume is from the iTunes update. There is an option below where you check to sync Audiobooks to 'Include Audiobooks from Playlists'. I checked the playlist f and now my book is all the way on my phone instead of just pretending.
Seems redundant but what do I know...At least I can listen to my book finally. -
Can you get Netscape launch with different default JRE Plugin versions?
Does anyone know how to do this?
OS: WinNT4
Browser: Netscape 6
Situation:
We want to standardize on JRE 1.4.1 but some of our clients web applications use JRE 1.3.1 and they won't run with the newer VM. So I need to launch Netscape with default plugin as 1.3.1 for some apps and default plugin as 1.4.1 for others.
Ideally, I would like to run a client logon script that makes a registry change to set the default JRE plugin to either 1.3.1 or 1.4.1 BEFORE Netscape launches and goes to our client URL.
Does anyone know which reg keys does this? Is there a better way?
Thanks. You can specify the JRE through the MIME type:
http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2002/markup-and-plugins/
"You can invoke the Java plugin for Netscape 7 and other Mozilla-based browsers by using the appropriate Java MIME type. Here is an example:
<object type="application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4.1_01"
width="460" height="160">
The above code mentions a version specific MIME type, and if the Mozilla-based browser such as Netscape 7 doesn't have JRE 1.4.1_01 installed, the alternate text is displayed."
Maybe that's something that you can use here. -
How can I get Quick VPN to use the correct DNS server IP
Right now it is defaulting to 192.168.x.1 (my RV042) I need it to default to 192.168.x.4 (Domain Controller). I need to be able to resolve names because remote users will have to log into the domain. I can not statically assign a DNS server on their machines because they are mobile, will be using WIFI hotspots and or/ wired LAN's at home.
The rv042 is obviously the router and server1 is the domain controller (also the DNS server for my LAN)
If I use nslookup to find a host it will default to the rv042 IP, so if I force the server IP in this case I get resolution with 192.168.x.4
C:\Users\XXXX>nslookup PC1 192.168.x.1
Server: rv042.xxxxxxxxxxxx.local
Address: 192.168.x.1
*** rv042.xxxxxxxxxxxx.local can't find PC1: Non-existent domain
C:\Users\XXXX>nslookup PC1 192.168.x.4
Server: server1.xxxxxxxxxxxx.local
Address: 192.168.x.4
Name: PC1.xxxxxxxxxxxx.local
Address: 192.168.x.5
C:\Users\XXXX>
Everything works right if I could just set my DNS server to .4. I came across many many posts from back as far as 2006 with poeple asking for this feature. What gives Cisco???One of the first things to check in Mail Preferences, Composing:

(solved) How can I get an older version of WINE?
I switched from Ubuntu to Arch, and met a problem with WINE.
I have a SIGMA DP1 camera and have to use SIGMA PHOTO PRO with WINE to process the RAW files.
In Arch WINE doesn't work with the application. In Ubuntu there is no problem with it.
wine SIGMA\ PhotoPro4.exe
err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"mscms.dll": liblcms.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
err:module:import_dll Loading library mscms.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\SIGMA\\SIGMA Photo Pro 4\\SIGMA PhotoPro4.exe") failed (error c000007a).
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\SIGMA\\SIGMA Photo Pro 4\\SIGMA PhotoPro4.exe" failed, status c0000135
I think it might be the problem of the newer version of WINE?

- Do you have lcms installed?
- Try to cd to the Sigma directory && 'wine SIGMA\ PhotoPro4.exe' or something.
- You can try the version you use on Ubuntu http://arm.konnichi.com/search/
- lcms is installed although I have no idea what it is.
- I did, and this is where I got the error above
- This is a great site! Thanks very much. I will try later.
