[SOLVED] - kernel 2.6.34-2 upgrade broke my wireless ...

... so I downgraded back to 2.6.33.4-1 along with the headers, got rid of linux-firmware and reinstalled kernel26-firmware.
But it still isn't working.
iwconfig spurts out all the expected info and the card (Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05) is seen, but wicd simply refuses to get an ip address. dmesg tells me that the firmware was requested and geography detected.
I tried restarting the network daemon and it fails
Hm, could it be udev that broke my network? Off to try...
EDIT:
Nope, downgraded to 151-3 but still cannot start the network daemon. dmesg is not telling me anything useful. Where else to check for useful hints?

Thanks ewaller,
I've got dhclient and a sudo dhclient eth1 does nothing, unfortunately.
PS:
Your post made me think...
Since wicd kept on failing with getting an ip address I told it to get a static one - and hey presto, I'm in again. Even upgraded everything again and am still in, so there!?

  • The lastest iTunes upgrade broke my wireless syncing between my iPhone and my Macbook Pro

iTunes was actually working before the latest update. Now I cannot wirelessly sync my phone to either my MacBook Pro or my PC.

    Hi, AppleJR.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are unable to sync via Wi-Fi after updating iTunes. I would start with going through the troubleshooting steps outlined below.
Quit and reopen iTunes and restart your iOS device
Quit and reopen iTunes on your computer. Then, restart your iOS device.Restart your network router
Restart your home network router using the manufacturer's instructions. You may need to disconnect the power cord for 30 seconds or more.
Note: During this time, Internet services, such as a VoIP-based phone, won't work, and you may need to reset additional network devices.Check your network connection
Make sure that your Wi-Fi network has an active Internet connection.
Make sure that you connect your iOS devices and computer to the same network over Wi-Fi.
Check for network configuration changes that may interfere with syncing:
    VPN configurations
Extending the Wi-Fi network through multiple wireless access points or routers
Guest networks or other security configurations that limit access between devices
Routers that configure different networks for different frequencies such as 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz
    Connecting the computer over Ethernet
Wake up your computer and open iTunes. If your computer is asleep or iTunes isn't open, the device may not sync.
Update your router. If you're using an AirPort or AirPort Time Capsule, you can learn more about firmware updates. If you're using a router from another manufacturer, contact the manufacturer to ask about available updates.
    Check for network interference
If you see performance issues when you sync over Wi-Fi, something may be causing wireless interference:
    Microwave ovens
    Cordless phones
Physical barriers, such as metal walls or distance between your computer, base station, and iOS device
Try the following to reduce network interference:
Move your iOS device and computer closer to the Wi-Fi router or base station.
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove your iOS device from any case, stand, or attachment.
Open Safari and try to load a webpage.
    Check firewall settings
If you enabled a firewall on your router or computer, make sure that your computer and iOS device can communicate.
Follow these steps to use the built-in firewall option with iTunes on your Mac.
For third-party firewalls and security software, see the developer or manufacturer for assistance.
Mac computers use port 123 to set the date and time automatically. Incorrect date and time on a computer or iOS device can cause connection issues. If you don't know if your router has a firewall or if the required ports are open, follow these steps:
Enable Wi-Fi syncing for additional iOS devices on your network to see if they have the same issue. (See the previous steps to enable Wi-Fi syncing for additional devices.)
Test your device on a different network. If the device works on another network, the issue may be your router or network configuration. Contact your router manufacturer or Internet service provider for additional troubleshooting.
If you use another security or firewall software on your computer or router, you can troubleshoot security software issues, contact the manufacturer, or check the documentation to learn how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.

  • Recent Kernel / udev 088 Upgrade Broke System

I just upgraded to the most recent kernel and udev 088. (Previously, I was using kernel 2.6.16 and the previous version of udev (udev 86 or 87).
After I rebooted, the latest kernel loaded fine. Modules also loaded. But my computer now hangs at Loading UDev Events.
This should not have happened for such a minor upgrade.  As mentioned previously I have been using 2.6.16  and udev.    I have filed a bug report - http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/4342
For some reason the latest upgrade broke the system.
Is there any way I can debug this?  (Since it is hanging, I do not know how)
How can I go bcak to the previous version of udev? (v 086 or 87?)
    Rob

Thanks.  Downgrading to udev 087 did not solve the problem.  I suspect the problem is related to the new kernel or the new pcmcia package.
I will try downgrading the pcmciautils program first.  If that does not work I will try downgrading the kernel.
How do I downgrade the kernel?  Do  downgrade kernel-sources first and the downgrade the kernel?
    Rob

  • [SOLVED] Kernel Upgrade Washout

I have been told that suspend problems on my laptop are probably due to the 2.6.35 kernel, so I tried to upgrade to 2.6.36. I looked around the wiki and news for any indication kernel upgrades were a special consideration, but all I saw were warnings that it could cause problems and not to do it without good reason, so I went ahead and upgraded the kernel itself.
When I rebooted, my wifi, ethernet, and xorg were all broken. I figure I should have done an entire system upgrade at once, but modprobing my ethernet driver does not work to bring it up. I then tried to downgrade back to 2.6.35 but get a "failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)" error. Downgrading with -Ud doesn't change this. The fallback kernel produces the same behavior.
Could someone tell me what I've done to my system and how I might recover it?

I was able to use the -force to downgrade to a functional, networked desktop and then did an -Syu. The results look pretty similar to the kernel-only upgrade with errors trying to start Xorg and no wifi or ethernet obtainable.
The key error data I'm seeing trying to startx seems to be:
    FATAL: Module i915 not found.
    (EE) No devices detected.
    Fatal server error:
    no screens found
It would be a major task to post an entire actual error dump since the laptop is on offline and this desktop only has enough USB ports functioning to plug my keyboard and mouse in. I looked at the Intel driver wiki and tried to enable KMS, with no results. I also backed up xorg.conf and tried startx without it. This gave me my Xfce desktop as I had last used it, but locked up the system and required a hard reboot.
I see I could play with grub modeset and/or downgrade Xorg, but with the network interfaces also down it seems like I have more of a systemic problem. Is there a core configuration file I sould be looking at? (BTW, the top of my login screen still says 2.6.35 although pacman -Q confirms I'm at 2.6.36.2-1)
I don't think I ever did a system upgrade as part of my install, and this thinkpad has had very little plug and play functionality, so I have done too much configuration file work to have a clear idea of what might have broken. Would it be simpler to do an install from scratch and go through all of the configuring after a system upgrade than to recover what I have?

need to upgrade brok cell unreadable?

If you're trying to say that you physically broke your iPhone, then make an appointment at the genius bar of your local Apple Store and take it in to have it looked at.
If that's not what you meant, then you may want to post in your native language. You don't make much sense.

    Hi
I am experiencing wireless connection problem on 4s after ios 8.1 upgrade. The wireless icon appears showing that it's connected but webpages do not load. I have checked my internet connection with other devices and seems to be alright. what to do?
I have tried reseting the network settings and forgetting my wireless connection and re-connecting to it. I even backed up my phone on itunes and restored it, factory reseted it. Nothing seems to work.
Also after my upgrade to ios 8.1 my personal hotspot option under cellular data has disappeared.
Would you please help me out? I would really appreciate it.

    Hi..
Restart your router then restart the iPhone to test.

  • Upgrade Portege A100 Wireless to 802.11g??

    Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the internal wireless chip in a Portege A100 to support 802.11g??
    Cheers
    G

    Hi again
This must be some series produced just for UK. The best way to find out is to visit http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com site. Under Products > Options and Accessories > Wireless communication you can find Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card - 802.11b/g (PA3300U-1MPC). This one should be compatible with Protg A100 P-M.
With a few mouse clicks you can find the answer alone. ;)

  • Since upgrading, both our wireless printers are still visible, but OSX will not connect with them.  Both work via connecting from other sources via the same wireless router (airport).  What do I need to do to get my printing/scanning working again?

Since upgrading, both our wireless printers are still visible, but OSX will not connect with them.  Both work via connecting from other sources via the same wireless router (airport).  What do I need to do to get my printing/scanning working again?

First thing to try is reset Printing System:
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
Next would be reset the router (power off 15 secs then back on). And, 2 minutes later, reset the printers 1 by 1.

  • [SOLVED] System upgrade broke pm-resume (kernel problem?)

It now seems every other time I suspend to RAM, it fails to come back. I just get a blank screen, no backlight, with a completely unresponsive keyboard. At this point, the only thing I do that has any effect is a hard shutdown by holding down the power button. I had no problems before I upgraded on April 10. I didn't post this immediately because I wanted to see if the new xorg-server and associated updates would fix it, but it didn't.
    Here is pm-suspend.log:

    [2009-04-10 22:59] upgraded udev (140-2 -> 141-1)
The kernel was upgraded then. Is that the most likely culprit? Generally, how can I help debug this?
    Thanks...

Hi there. Me here with the same problem. Well I think it to be so...
I can not suspend/resume for the second time - when I resume the backlight turns on, but the suspend LED is not turned off, HDD works, CPU, fans work. My computer is Thinkpad T43p. And older kernel does solve the problems.
I am considering one more issue about this problem is that the drivers may conflict with the newest kernel (for example my opensource ati drivers). Any suggestions?
By the way, if someone needs older packages, you can use 'Arch Rollback Machine' (ARM - http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=53665)

  • [solved]wacom doesn't work after upgrade to xorg 1.6 and kernel 2.6.29

    hello..
i have already posted about that in testing-forums, but since xorg 1.6 and kernel 2.6.29 have moved to extra, though i'd create a seperate topic about that.
after i have upgraded to xorg 1.6 and kernel 2.6.29 my wacom device (as built-in, not usb) on my thinkpad x41t stopped working.
before upgrade i have used xorg with hotplugging enabled. everything worked fine.
after wacom stopeed working i removed everything regarding input devices from xorg.conf -> no change
put an fdi-file for wacom -> no change
    installed linuxwacom-dev -> no change
i don't really know, if it's a kernel or an xorg issue. loading wacom drivers manually still doesn't solve the problem. no warnings or errors about wacom in xorg-log or messages.log
how could i check, wether my system recognizes the device properly at all? it doesn't show up in lspci or in lsusb.
    any help would be great.

well, upgraded again to xorg-server 1.6, disabled hotplugging, installed linuxwacom-dev from aur and the wacom works as allways. (had to edit xmodmap one more time, since kbd returns other keycodes than evdev does :-| ). no matter, done is done.
but intel driver returns broken graphics if i rotate screen with xrandr.
i guess there is no way around this execpt switching to the ultra-slow legacy driver?
just for comparison - glxgears fps:
    intel: ~900fps
    intel-legacy: ~280fps

  • [SOLVED]Asus laptop light sensor after upgrade to 2.6.31 kernel

    Hello,
Before I upgrade the 2.6.31 kernel I have a some code in rc.local:
    echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/asus-laptop/ls_switch
    echo 4 > /sys/devices/platform/asus-laptop/ls_level
But after upgrade to 2.6.31 kernel this directories doesn't exists... So can some one tell me where now I can turn off this light sensor?
    HOW TO SOLVE?
Directories has rename, true exists dir is:
    /sys/devices/platform/asus_laptop/ls_switch
Who have fun to change only one string from - to _ ?
I don't care, this is the fix. Regards.

Right, I worked it out. There were some files in /etc/udev/rules.d that no longer belonged to any package. After moving these files to a different directory, console device names were back at /dev/tty*.

  • Kernel upgrade broke VirtualBox modules

    Hi guys,
after upgrading the kernel from linux-3.4.4-3 to linux-3.4.5-1 the VirtualBox modules for the new kernel aren't generated automatically.
Downgrading the kernel helps, but that's just an interim solution. Does anyone know how to build the modules manually? 'vboxbuild' and '/etc/rc.d/vboxdrv setup' is obviously deprecated. Even on virtualbox.org I couldn't find clear instructions.
I really don't know whether it's a kernel or VirtualBox issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thx & Rgds

kernel 3.4.5-1 has just moved to core. The matching precompiled virtualbox-modules are still in community-testing. Just wait a bit longer.

  • [ SOLVED ] Kernel Upgrade ?

    Hi All
I have just noticed that a kernel upgrade is available when i do sudo pacman -Syu .... In order to upgrade successfully, is that all that needs to be done, or are there other things that should be done once the install is complete ?
