[SOLVED] Keyboard stopped working after upgrade

When Arch boots into the login window, keyboard has stopped working (it works in the boot screen, tested with Caps Lock). The mouse is working. I have installed Arch to a laptop and configured Arch to use EFISTUB to boot. I have already confirmed that the kernels and initramfs' in theESP (Arch's kernel, initramfs and fallback are in /boot/efi/EFI/arch. ESP in mounted as /boot/efi) and in the /boot are the same.
I don't see any FAILED messages during the boot screen.
Here's the Xorg log: http://pastebin.com/qXwqR3vf
And lxdm.log http://pastebin.com/DF9bF4R8
I am running the linux-lts kernel.

This was caused by a simple reason: keyboard file "en" was missing in the xkbcomp directory. That's od because I haven't touched keyboard settings at all. I changed the keyboard setting in X11 confiure file to "us" as test and now it works.

    I just upgraded my HP Pavilion X2 to Windows 10 and the keyboard stopped working.  Is there an update from HP that can correct this issue?

    , Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  The only option you have at the moment is to run the windows update troubleshooter and run any update recommended or optional.  If that does not fix it then you will need to roll back to the original supported operating system the x2 was built to run on. Here is the link for the troubleshooter. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Update-troubleshooter Please let me know how things go.  Thanks again for the post and have a great day.

  • [SOLVED] Keyboard stopped working after update

    Greetings,
    after my most recent update (I now update infrequently, so I had quite a bunch of packets to update) I experienced my keyboard refraining from working in any way under my desktop environment (KDEmod legacy) - switching to console, the keyboard works again.
    I did a few downgrades (info from /var/log/pacman.log) and it now works again.
    [2009-02-18 13:47] upgraded xkeyboard-config (1.5-1 -> 1.4-2)
    [2009-02-18 13:47] upgraded xf86-input-keyboard (1.3.2-1 -> 1.3.1-1)
    [2009-02-18 13:48] upgraded xcb-util (0.3.3-1 -> 0.3.2-1)
    Are there any known problems occuring concerning these packets? They seem to change the way, XOrg is accessing the keyboard, which is obviously not working.
    Thanks for any advice on this matter!
    Regards,
    cg
    // EDIT
    Solution: xorg-server was amongst the IgnorePkg list as in pacman.conf - updating xorg-server together with xf86-input-keyboard, input devices work like charms again.

    Thank you for your contribution. I tried my best to configure my input devices conform to the new XOrg hotplugging, but I have to say that the problem persisted.
    Step 0:
    Updating all packages (again). Conclusion: Not working.
    Step 1:
    Copying the keyboard configurations from /usr/share to /etc for persistent use by HAL. Conclusion: Not working.
    Step 2:
    Commenting out the lines referring to the static declaration of input devices within /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Conclusion: Not working.
    Step 3:
    Adding the command to disable the hotplugging (Option "AutoAddDevices" "False") on bottom of my xorg.conf. Conclusion: Not working.
    Step 4:
    Downgrading: xf86-input-keyboard (1.3.2-1 -> 1.3.1-1) Conclusion: Working again.
    Guessing by the fact that more than one person posted in this thread, this problem seems not to be limited to my specific configuration (which is rather basic, a basic keyboard and a basic mouse, both using USB). For now, the 'solution' is adding xf86-input-keyboard to the IgnorePkg list of pacman.conf - or is there any known workaround?
    I would be glad to be informed about wrongs in the steps I have taken.
    Thanks for your information in advance,
    regards,
    cg
    // EDIT
    Problem resolved. The solution was stunningly obvious - after having run into problems with the upgrade lately, xorg-server was on the IgnorePkg list as well and defaulted to 1.4.2.2, which would not work well together with the input hotplugging. After having solved the problem with XOrg and updating all the packages again, I can happily use my keyboard again. Sorry for all the hassle!

  • [Solved] Backlight stopped working after upgrade

    Hi,
    I've been using Arch for a couple months now, and I had set up the backlight by adding the acpi_backlight=vendor kernel paramter.
    I recently upgraded my system, and everything seems to be working, but now the backlight is set to some default value and doesn't change. My /etc/default/grub still has the kernel parameter in it.
    $ xbacklight
    100.000000
    $ xbacklight -set 50
    $ xbacklight
    100.000000
    Here is the kernel I've upgraded to:
    $ uname -a
    Linux choochootrain 3.8.5-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Mar 29 19:18:14 CET 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    I don't know much about mkinitcpio.conf, but upgrading the kernel didn't change any of the modules being loaded..
    Does anyone have any idea what else could be causing this? Let me know what other information would be useful here!

    I upgraded from 3.6.9.1 -> 3.8.5.1, and I have an integrated Intel video card
    $ lspci -v | grep VGA
    00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
    I tried removing the acpi_backlight parameter, but no luck.
    My laptop is a Toshiba Portege z930, so there are vendor specific entries in /sys
    $ ls /sys/class/backlight
    acpi_video0 intel_backlight toshiba
    which I assume is why the original acpi_backlight=vendor worked.
    Do you think this could be a kernel specific issue? I may end up downgrading until I can resolve this, as the backlight is blindingly bright right now

  • Kodak ESP 3200 stopped working after upgrading to Yosemite

    Kodak ESP 3200 stopped working after upgrading to Yosemite

    Kodak has posted an unsupported hack that has been reported to enable printing to a Kodak printer not supported in OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"). Perhaps it would have the same effect with some other kinds of printers that aren't supported in Yosemite. I have no information about that, one way or the other.
    I have not tested the hack myself and I don't know all the possible effects. As far as I know it will not break the compatibility of printing software that is already compatible with Yosemite. It may degrade the security of the web administration interface of CUPS. That interface is not enabled by default, and will not be enabled by the procedure described here. Even if it were enabled, I know of no way it could be exploited, with or without the modification. Nevertheless, if you have enabled the web administration interface, you should disable it if you decide to follow these instructions. If you don't know what the web administration interface is, you haven't enabled it.

  • My Microsoft Office 2004 stopped working after upgrading to MT.  How can I get it to work, or, how can I uninstall MT?

    My Microsoft Office 2004 stopped working after upgrading to Mountain Lion.  How can I get it to work again, or, how can I uninstall MT?

    Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
    You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
    You may want to consider as well:
    These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
    And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
    Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
    Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
    (Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

    windows media player stop working after upgraded from Firefox 6.02 to Firefox 7.01 yesterday.
    the plugin for win media player is already installed and working fine in FF 6.02 before upgrade. i have Google this issue without any result so far. so i reinstalled the old version 6.02, until fix is found.
    anyone has the similar issue with Firefox 7.01 in Win 7 32 bit ?

    The issue was not with FF 7.01. VLC player version 1.11.1 is conflicting with windows media player when FF 7.01 tries to play media files! Which was not happening before in FF 6.02.
    VLC and plugin media player need to be uninstalled first, then uninstalled FF 6.02. Install FF 7.01 and then win plugin media player again.

    I have a similar problem, but after following your suggestion of deleting my iphone backup and then turning backup back on again, I needed to plug my phone into my computer to sync the backup.  I re-tried to do an icloud backup and it again told me that  "the last backup could not be completed"... since I had deleted the backup, it says the "Last backup:  never".  Ugh. I reconnected my iPhone 4S to my computer and iTunes so I could sync my phone and do a backup... it's still "waiting for sync to start"...
    For your iCloud backup, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.
    If you turned iCloud backup off and try to sync to create a backup on your computer and got a "waiting for sync to start" error, it may be caused by a corrupt backup on your computer.  You could try deleting your last backup by opeing iTunes and going to Preferences>Devices, clicking on your last backup and clicking Delete Backup.  Then try again.

  • Why does the ipad 2 speaker stopped working after upgrading to ios 8

    WWhy does the iPad 2 speaker stopped working after upgrading to ios 8 why plz respond

    Hi A_S85,
    It appears your iPhone has an issue relating to sound. The following article may help you find a solution:
    If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker - Apple Support
    Can't hear anything from the built-in speaker of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Maybe you can hear, but the sound is distorted, muffled, intermittent. Or maybe you hear static or crackling noises. If your iOS device has any of these issues, follow these steps.
    Follow these steps and test the sound after each one.
    Go to Settings > Sounds and drag the Ringer And Alerts slider to turn the volume up.
    If you can hear sound from the speaker, then the speaker works. Continue with these steps to find the setting or switch that's affecting the sound. If you can't hear sound from the speaker, contact Apple Support.
    Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is set to ring. If you can see orange, it's set to silent.
    Restart your device.
    Open an app that has music or sound effects. Adjust the volume with the volume buttons or the slider in Control Center.
    Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn off Bluetooth.
    If there's still no sound, connect a headset. If you can hear sound through the headset, remove it and clear any dust or debris from the headset jack of your device.
    If the device is in a case, make sure that the case doesn't block the speaker.
    Use a brush to gently clear any debris from the speaker and Lightning connector (or 30-pin dock connector). The brush should be clean and dry and have soft bristles.
    Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
    If you followed these steps and still hear no sound or distorted sound, contact Apple Support.
    Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • Keyboard shortcut command-w stopped working after upgrading to OSX 10.9.4

    Dear all,
    after upgrading to OSX 10.9.4 the keyboard shortcut command-w stops working after about 30 min of having the machine powered on. Interestingly, this phenomenon is not restricted to a certain app (Safari, etc.).
    In system preferences > keyboard all settings have been set to "default".
    Anybody else having the same issue?
    Many thanks,
    wolfgang

    Hi folks,
    just as quick documentation for possibly other error sources for the problem "shortcut command-w not working":
    If problem persists close all applications (allL!). Then open one app like Safari, open several tabs and check whether command-w works.
    Reason: it could happen that you've set command-w inadvertently in another app like Snagit. And when setting this the app did not tell you "listen dummy, this is a standard command, do you really want to replace a standard command with a app-specific command. Don't be surprised if it doesn't work when the app is running."
    This is what happened to me. So close all apps and check whether problem persists.
    reg,
    wolfgang

  • Mouse and Keyboard stops working after a while

    Hi, I'm not even sure where to start to find the cause of the problem. I have a normal ps/2 keyboard and USB optical mouse, both of them just stops working after a few hours. The light on the mouse just dies and the keyboard is not responsive at all.  I have to do a hard reboot of my computer. How and where can I diagnose the problem? I noticed the problem started when I upgraded to the latest kernel.

    And then after a while it will just use a new address:
    Oct 31 01:47:15 wdesktop usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 6
    Oct 31 01:47:15 wdesktop usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 7
    Oct 31 01:47:16 wdesktop usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
    Oct 31 01:47:16 wdesktop input: Microsoft Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical as /class/input/input8
    Oct 31 01:47:16 wdesktop input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.00 Mouse [Microsoft Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical] on usb-0000:00:10.0-1
    Then after that my mouse is unusable, the following is shown:
    Oct 31 01:48:41 wdesktop usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 7
    Oct 31 01:48:41 wdesktop usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8
    Oct 31 01:49:13 wdesktop usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9
    Oct 31 01:49:45 wdesktop usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 10
    Oct 31 01:49:56 wdesktop usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 11
    Oct 31 01:50:08 wdesktop uhci_hcd 0000:00:10.0: Controller not stopped yet!
    Unplugging and plugging the mouse back does not work
    I found a workaround for that by unplugging the mouse, removing the uhci_hcd and adding it back, so:
    sudo rmmod uhci_hcd
    sudo modprobe uhci-hcd
    But I'm still not sure what causes the problem.
