[SOLVED] Keyboard volume control in Openbox

Hi guys, I have been trying to get my keyboard keys control the volume in openbox. I have pnmixer installed, systray applet shows on tint2 and I also have xfce4-volumed installed from the AUR. Nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Did that, I thought it was one or the other. rc.xml way or xfce4-volumed ?
Thanks keyboard control works now.
Now, how to get a notification on volume change+-/mute?
You're welcome. Glad you worked it out. Don't forget to mark your post as solved. As to the other question I am unsure. I do not use this feature. If it is something that is handled by xfce4-volumed I would think maybe installing "xfce4-notifyd" or similar may work but I don't know (assuming you're talking about some kind of osd style thing where bubbles come up on the desktop and show you stuff). Other than that no clue on my end.

    Hi,
Try using Recovery Manager to reinstall your Audio Driver ( this will probably be IDT, but could be Realtek or Conexant ) - the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the relevant document on the link below.
    Recovery Manager - Windows 7
    Recovery Manager - Windows Vista
After the reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.

My keyboard volume control & wireless switch (the touch ones at the top of the keyboard) just quit working the other day. I can't figure out how to tell if i turned something off accidentally or what. Rebooting didn't help. Hi,
Problems with the capacitive strip can sometimes be helped by performing a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.

  • Keyboard Volume Controls working erratically

    Hi,
I'm experiencing a strange issue with the mac keyboard volume controls. I have the system set to output both sound and sound effects to some external speakers via the line-out (set in System Prefs). Whenever I reboot my MacPro, the volume control keys stop working with the line-out and revert to controlling the built-in speaker. However, iTunes etc still output via the line-out.
If I try and reset the values in the System preferences, OS X switches the outputs around, but stubbornly leaves the volume keys controlling the internal speaker. If I switch to another User ID, then eveything works fine.
The volume keys had been working fine with the line out and external speakers until this morning...nothing new installed! So i'm puzzled as to why the sudden change! The only thing that was done differently before the shudown was to run the daily/weekly/monthly jobs, but they shouldn't have messed anything up.
I've tried the following 'fixes' which I've found in the forums, but without any permanent success:
    1) Check Software Update - all up to date.
    2) Reset PRAM - no effect at all.
    3) Reset SMC - no effect at all.
    4) Hold down power button until power light flashes - no effect at all.
    5) Verify permissions - no effect at all.
    6) Deleting the ~/Library/preferences/com.apple.BezelServices.plist file then logging out/rebooting. This resolves the issue until I reboot the Mac..then back to square one again. When I check the non-working bezelservices.plist against the one for the working User ID, there is no difference.
Anyone got any ideas on how to resolve this irritating bug - it's almost as bad as having a windows PC back again ?

I've been using SoundSource for a while now because I was having similar problems:
    http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/
I often switch between internal speaker, line out and imic depending on the time of day and what I'm listening to/watching.
SoundSource doesn't completely fix the problem but it does make it easier for switching outputs. I've found that if the kb controls get stuck on one output, I just switch the output in SoundSource to something else and then back to the preferred one and everything works again. Only takes a few seconds...

  • Apple TV messed up Macbook Pro, Keyboard volume controls won't work.

I can't get my Keyboard Volume controls to work on my macbook pro, Apple TV messed it up. This isn't an issue with disabling the remote control infrared receiver. When I want to turn my volume up or down, I have to go to system prefrences and change the volume that way. It's annoying and a big waste of time. Please help me before I throw this computer against the wall.
    Thank You!!

I've got an extremely similar problem. Spillage on the keyboard. Unknown, what it was.
To start with it was dead, no power up.
Then it dried out. There was still a bit of battery power left, and the mouse and track pad worked for a few minutes then it all froze.
So I shut the lid. I left it like that, because I couldnt switch it off.
Much later, opened it up again and all windows opened up, all info was correct,
I was advised to try wireless mouse and keyboard, but you have to get in there before it freezes again.
The battery was charging normally as well.
I made the decision to let the battery die completely and then switch it on again, but sure enough when I did this, it ignored any re-boot command and that's that. Dead as a do-do.
So, without being a computer whizz kid, I presume, it's off to the Apple store for a sizeable bill.
Unless someone else has a cunning plan ????????
I would love to hear it !!!!!!

  • Keyboard volume control does not work

I have an iMac G5, running OS 10.5.8, and a new Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad. My keyboard volume control does not work. Any have ideas as to why ? (I have a similar set-up at work with no volume problems.)

Try system prefs/keyboard/keyboard/ and uncheck Use all F1, F2 etc as standard function keys.
Other wise the volume and brightness controls will only work if you hold down the function key first (fn)

  • Wireless Keyboard Volume control not working

    Hi all
recently got a new Envy Phonext 800 050, came with a wireless keyboard and mouse, both of which work fine apart from the volume controls on the keyboard and I cant seem to find software/drivers for them that run under windows 8 ? any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Hi capnchuck,
Thanks for the quick reply. I would like you to check out Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Troubleshooting it has some troubleshooting steps we can try first. You may be required to download the drivers for your specific keyboard can give me the name of your keyboard  example: HP Wireless Elite Desktop Keyboard, HP Wireless Entertainment Keyboard etc.. so that I can narrow down the keyboards that are coming up with that product number. Hope to hear from you soon.

  • Keyboard Volume Controls Broken

    hello all,
i have a mac pro running 10.4.11. the problem i have is that even though i have selected +line out+ as my device for sound output, the apple keyboard volume buttons control the internal speaker volume. this happens every time i start my computer. the internal speaker makes the volume changing pop noises when i use these buttons, even though music comes through +line out+ just fine.
i have figured out a workaround. i can log out and then log back in. that second time i login, the buttons work correctly and i hear the pop noise in the line out.
i have tried running +repair permissions+ in +disk utility+ during the first login to solve the problem, but that did not work.
any help would be appreciated. thanks

I can't help, but I've suddenly got a problem on my Intel Mac Mini which at least merits the same description. I'm using the headphone output to external speakers. Up to very recently I could control the volume and turn mute on and off from the three keys above the numeric keypad section of my keyboard. Now this has stopped working: when I press one of these keys, I get the semi-transparent display of the speaker and the level of volume. Underneath that is a circle with a line through it (perhaps a 'mute' symbol) - but the volume up and down keys don't indicate changes in volume, and the sound itself is not affected. The Mute key shows the mute status (no "sound" lines coming out of the speaker icon), but no muting takes place. The volume up and down keys turn off the mute status display. The volume control on the toolbar at the top of the screen still works as normal. The only changes I know about are the recent security updates from Apple (all my Tiger software is up to date). Can anyone suggest any way of restoring these keys?

  • Wireless keyboard volume control

Finally paired my wireless keyboard with the older Mac and cannot get the volume controls on the keyboard to work at all. Keeps taking me to widgets or closing current window when I hit the F11 or F12 buttons. I tried going to system preferences, disconnecting, powering down and repowering keyboard per a post I found (which worked for the person who asked the question initally) but it will not work for me. Can someone help me to get my volume controls to function properly?
    Thank you.

    Hello b:
Look in system preferences>keyboard. Is the use F1,F2… box unchecked?
    Try a couple of things:
Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.
    Reset PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Reset the SMC (look in the knowledge-base articles. Your profile is not complete and I cannot point you at the specific article).

  • Keyboard Volume control drivers...where are they on the machine?

HPE-470f.  Running 64 Bit Windows Professional.  I have lost the volume control keys on the keyboard.  I understand they need the driver file KBD.EXE.  I don't have it on the machine.  I have tried the HP restore and the keyboard driver is not listed for restore. When I go to the self download support site for this machine the file is not listed in the original files list presented for download.  How do a get a copy?

  • Keyboard volume control

    Hi all
I have a new G5 iMac connected to a hi-fi but I can't get the keyboard volume/mute keys to work. I've used both a usb-line device and a minijack into the headphone socket. Sound is great using either, but I'd like to mute it from the keyboard. Anyone know why it doesn't appear to work?
    thanks
    ian

    Hi Miriam
with the USB device (it's an Edirol UA-1A) sound prefs are greyed out. Having checked again I find I can use the key board vol controls for line out - it's just the usb device that I can't.
Guess I'll stick to the line out device.
Thanks for your help - your reply made me test it all again.

  • Aluminum Keyboard Volume Controls for iTunes?

    Hi,
is it possible to use the Volume Controls from the Aluminum Keyboard for iTunes?
I use the Digital output for Audio on my Macs. So using this Key for iTunes would be the best usage for me.
    Thanks!

You are aware if you use the Digital output (Optical, Fiber cable), like in my case the Volume keys don't have no function anymore.
So if there is a trick to use this Keys for iTunes (when using the Digital output) that would rock the Banana house full of Squirrels!

  • [SOLVED] PulseAudio Volume Control won't start anymore

    Hi!
As described in the title, PulseAudio Volume Control won't start from one day to another.
I have no clue where this could come from or what I could have done wrong to create this issue.
Here is how it looks like:
When I start it, it seems to be loading but after some time it just disappears and nothing happens.
I also have the same looking issue with KMix and Google Music Manager.
Do any of you have an idea where this could be coming from?
    Thanks for your help :-)

    Name : pavucontrol

They are all repository packages, NOT from the AUR. As previously mentioned, this is a fresh install, so I don't have any custom repositories. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
