[SOLVED] krunner shows uninstalled programs

Hi there people, I'm having somewhat of a problem here. I installed the firefox web browser on my system only for testing, I don't really like it. After a while I issued the 'pacman -Rd firefox' command to uninstall it. Issuing 'pacman -Q | grep firefox' gives me nothing, so I take it firefox has been uninstalled. Thing is, krunner is still showing it, and if I accidentaly try to run firefox my system freezes for a while. After it unfreezes, I cannot use alt+f2: it is gone for good. So I have to reboot my system to get alt+f2 back again. The thing is, how can I make firefox disappear for good? Thanks in advance for any help.

Managed to find something here. I tried kmenuedit as you said. So I checked the "Show hidden entries" box under 'Settings -> Configure KDE Menu Editor -> Misc',  and then a '.hidden' folder appeared on the menu entries. Inside that folder I can see my two firefox entries (Firefox and Firefox - Safe Mode). I deleted them, but they keep respawning everytime. Tried issuing kmenuedit as root, but it only gives me an error message, so I don't think I can delete it as root. Using "Find Files/Folders" doesn't give me any mozilla or firefox entry on my system. I have no idea where firefox has put itself into in such a ninja way...

  • Open with... shows uninstalled program

This has been nagging at me for quite some time now... I always thought that it was an issue with some far-out bit of gnome I'd never heard of, but I just removed 80% of gnome (keeping only a few applications and libraries needed to run them), and yet it persists. The problem, specifically, is that when I use Nautilus's right click menu and select "Open with...", I am presented with the option to run an application using Wine. I no longer have Wine, however, and it's begun to really bother me. How, exactly, do I go about removing these little treasures from my context menus?
(In short, "Silly context menu, I no longer have Wine." Watdo.)

Well, then. There went 15 files I'd never realized existed. Thanks! I had no clue about any local .desktop file store, even though I've been through .local countless times.

  • Adobe Product Problems. Can't Install, or Uninstall programs. Also programs installed on my computer are not showing up in CC

I have tried many times but, I can not install any adobe products onto my computer (It does meet system requirements). It always is gets an "Installation failed" error at 42% I also can not uninstall adobe programs. I have Adobe after effects installed and I have tried to uninstall it. A window comes up saying "Uninstall Failed" and gives me some trouble shooting tips which I have tried many times. Another problem is when I open up creative cloud my installed programs do not show up. For example I have Adobe After Effects but, in creative cloud it is listed as uninstalled and has a button that says "Try" even though it is already installed onto my computer. I have problems with the CreativeCloudCleaner too. I have tried using it to uninstall programs but, when I choose the option to delete adobe CC products it only gives me the option to delete Creative Cloud and no CC programs. These are problems I have been trying to fix for days but, I have not yet found a solution anywhere.

  • HT4673 how to uninstall programs from Mountain Lion?

how to uninstall programs from Mountain Lion?

    Hi,
Theres a couple ways to uninstall programs. The launchpad is the rocket icon on the dock. If you open that you should see your apps spread out as icons as if it would be on a iphone or other iOS device. If you just click the icon with your mouse button and continue holding the mouse button the will shake and show the X. If you click that X it will ask if you want to delete the program. This only works for programs downloaded through the APP Store. If a program does not have an X then proceed to the next way of uninstalling
-- The way to delete a program that will not delete the previous way is as followed:
    Open finder
    - On the left side you will see applications > Click that
    - Then you will see all the programs on the right side.
    - If you click on the program and drag it to your trash bin it will ask if you would like to make changes and delete.
    - Just make sure not to delete anything that was preinstalled with you Mac

  • How do I uninstall labview application with no uninstall program

I have built an application and selected to not have an "uninstall" application in the various 5.1 app builder options. I did not think this would be a problem since I thought the application would show up in my add/remove programs and could be removed from there. However, it seems that if no uninstall program is selected then the application also does not appear in the add/remove section of control panel. Do I just delete the directory of the application? Are there any registry settings to worry about. I have seen this on Win 2K and Win 98. I have not tried others.

There are registry settings when you install the application builder, and probably an association is made in the registry to open your application and have it spawn the runtime engine of the correct version. However, as the Windows Registry is the most obsolete piece of software junk on the planet, and so chock full of mysteries, incosistencies, and well, a whole list of things that I could complain about, I cannot say for certain what registry settings are added/changed when you do an installation.
I will make this suggestion. Just delete the folder, and also, you will need to delete the "my application".ini file in the root directory, or wherever your application is located (which could be taken care of when you delete the folder, but who knows.)
    On
ce you have deleted the folder, any remaining registry settings left over will be added to the rather large list of leftover registry entries from other applications that are unistalled/deleted. The truth of the matter is that I have NEVER seen an application completely remove all of itself, or its registry entries. I don't even know if uninstallation removes ANY registry entries.
If we are all lucky, someone at Microsoft will take a hint and get rid of the registry. Maybe then we can have flash resident operating systems. Until then, I'll stick with Linux, thank you....

I can't open PDFs, can't uninstall program, I have Adobe Reader (11.0.08) MUI (I don't know what MUI is...), help! I have tried numerous times to uninstall and change the program. Every time I try to do this, a window comes up saying that files are open (Adobe Reader) and to either retry or close. I can do neither, so I'm unable to uninstall the program. I've never had anything like this happen to me. I scanned my computer for viruses, malware, etc. and nothing came up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just try to download the software from the Adobe site and see what happens?
    Thanks, Tracy

Assuming you are in Windows (which you haven't said), you can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Show uninstalled .pfm font names in Windows 7?

I have a bunch of old fonts that I've kept each time I upgraded to a new computer or OS (WIndows 95 to XP and now Windows 7). In the past, I've always been able to easily pick out which fonts I wanted to install uning Adobe Type Manager. Well, ATM doesn't work in Win 7. I can install fonts just fine BUT trying to figure out which particular file to install is the problem. I can see the files names like pvw3__.pfm, but I don't know which font that is. I can discover the font name if I double click on the .pfm file,  but clicking on each one indivivually to try and find the one I want is painfully slow. Is there some utility or setting that will show uninstalled font names?

bump: Please someone help with this solution. I have found that ttf can have "Title" enabled in details view (right click on the columns and check the "Title" and this will work to show the names. But this does not work for pfm/pfb files. Pleae someone help.

  • Uninstalling programs and related components

How do I uninstall programs and components from this machine. It was given to me with all the original owners stuff on it.

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Uninstalling programs or applications from my mac

    Hello, how are you.
I'm a new mac user... and I have a doubt. If anybody knows, please answer me as soon as you read this. Is very important. How can I uninstall programs or applications from my mac?
Somebody talks me that I had to remove the archives from my mac. But, I don't know if "really" I'm uninstalling the program.
    Please... I hope an answer!
    Thank you, very much.

In MacOS X you can delete most applications by simply
dragging their icon to the trash (and ofcourse empty
the trash afterwards). Very few application do have
an uninstall application or offer an uninstall
    feature in the original installer.
Trashing is one way to remove files, but it can, in the case of complicated applications that write to folders outside of their own application folder, not completely remove all the files associated with the application, this can be viewed/ termed as a "dirty uninstall".
For applications check if there is an uninstall option with the installstaller program for the application (in the case of MS Office theirs is a separate utility called "Remove Office" for this sole purpose). If a deinstallation option for the application is not present "dirty deinstallation" can be avoided by using a third-party application to do the job properly (e.g. springcleaning from Allume: http://www.allume.com/mac/springcleaning/ ).

  • While going through uninstalling programs I didnt need i accidently uninstalled bonjour, where can i go to download it again?

While going through uninstalling programs I didn't use any longer, I accidently uninstalled bonjour.  Where can I go to download it again?

Uninstalling and then reinstalling your iTunes should also get your Bonjour reinstalled.
For the reinstall, use an installer downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
... or you could get it back via your Apple Software Update for Windows.
If you'd prefer not to uninstall iTunes, try the following procedure.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the Bonjour.msi (or Bonjour64.msi) to do a standalone Bonjour install.
