[solved]Laptop battery stays at 0% and doesn't charge (but 99% in Win)

Hi there,
I've a problem with my ThinkPad T410. Since one of the last pacman updates KDE shows permanently 0% battery status and the values does not increase any more. If I boot into Windows 7, however, the battery status is at 99%, So I assume that it's a ACPI problem.
Here's some console output:
# upower --monitor-detail

It's solved, but not by upgrading upower (although it might be the cause because I updated that package some days ago). I don't know which package solved it, but it has to be one of these:

See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281.  I had the same problem, but solved it by holding down the home button and the on/off button for 10 seconds.  If you are lucky, that will work for you as well!

If you've tried the basic troubleshooting steps (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new), and you've tried charging from a wall socket and these all fail, then you have a hardware problem.
If your unit is still in warranty, you will be eligible for a replacement with a refurbished unit free of charge.  If you are out of your warranty period, you will be eligible for an out of warranty exchange which will cost the equivalent of 200 US dollars.

Apple told you it was unrepairable.... You had it serviced by an unauthorized party. It's now no longer eligible for out of warranty replacement by Apple.
There's really nothing else we can say about it. Find a competent 3rd party repair shop or buy a new one.

    Hello Kierasully,
I would start your troubleshooting with the article below for issues of not being able to log in to your Mac. Start with booting up in to Safe Boot as well as resetting PRAM on your Mac. If that does not work, then verify the hard drive with booting to the Recover HD and go to Disk Utility to verify it.

  • [solved] Laptop screen stays off

After updating today which only gave me a new kernel(which I had been ignoring), mkinitcpio-busybox and systemd 192-1, the screen stays off when I open the lid.
Normally when I close the lid, walk into another room and open the lid, the screen is on before I get the lid to 45 degrees. This morning after updating and rebooting to use the new kernel and using it for a while, I shut the lid to carry the laptop to a new location and when I opened the lid the screen stayed off.
I thought the f*&^%$&ng screen had died.
I'm guessing it's something in the systemd update that is suspending or hibernating the system as a keypress and 5-10 sec wait has the screen back on but I don't want that. Can I get a clue on what to undo so I have the usual behaviour back?

If you don't want things to ever change, Slackware might be a better option for you than a very fast paced rolling release like Arch.
With systemd, Linux is seeing more change than it's seen in a long time.

  • Battery doesn't charge but ibook still runs on ac?

I've got a 2004 iBook G4 1.0ghz processor 1.25gb ram. Had it 16 months, no problems so far until today.
When I plug in the AC the laptop runs off this power- the battery symbol changes to show the power plugs- but the battery does not charge. It stays at 49%, no matter how long I wait. I tried inserting my backup battery and it doesn't charge either, it just stays at 26%. The laptop will run off the battery if it needs to, I just can't get any more power into the battery itself. And the leds in the adaptor do not change colour anymore, they are always out. Applecare recommended a PMU reset, which I did, but nothing changed. Next recommendation was to take it in to the shop. I'm hesitant because my original iBook never really came back from the shop... it had 3 logicboard failures and a hard drive failure in the first 90 days. My current iBook is a replacement. Hopefully this is not logicboard as well. If there's anyone out there who has experienced something similar and has some non-invasive advice please help! Thanks.

Same here with my AT270 bought in January 2013. The tablet does not load and remains on the screen with the red battery without recharging.
Even powered on, the tablet does not charge.
I am looking for a replacement battery, but the one I found on the web are more than 50€ would you have a better price?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Battery is completely depleted and does not charge at all

I have a brand new MAC Book which I purchased in November and I am having problems. I already had to get the RAM replaced before I came to Italy to study abroad.
    Here is my problem:
I returned from a one week break to find my computer totally dead on my desk. I didn't fully shut the computer down before I left. When I went to turn it on (eight days later) I couldn't using the power button so I plugged in the power source. When I plugged in the power source the power monitor remained "green" which indicates "fully powered" and the icon on the top right hand corner shows plugged in and "O%" charge. If I unplug the power the computer shuts off completely.
I have taken off the battery for 12 hours and put it back in and nothing changed.
I did the turn off the computer disconnected the power and removed the battery hold down the power button for five seconds and replaced the battery and reconnected the power source and nothing.
I checked the battery by pressing the button and the lights don't even indicate it has any charge so it is completely dead.
I finally went into system profiler and this is what it reads:
    *Battery Information:*
    Model Information:
    Manufacturer: DP
    Device name: ASMB016
    Pack Lot Code: 0002
    PCB Lot Code: 0000
    Firmware Version: 0110
    Hardware Revision: 0500
    Cell Revision: 0102
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 0
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 0
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 128
    Battery health: Poor
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 8300
This is a brand new lap top and I need to have these issues resolved ASAP because I am unable to get my laptop serviced from Europe unless I fly back to the US.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hi. Try resetting the SMC of the computer. Here's the steps:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319.
If that doesn't help, the info you posted shows that the cycle count is below 300 and this could be an indication that this is a hardware problem. If there is an Apple Store in your area, have it check there. They can give you a new battery for free since this is still within warranty.

  • My MacBook Pro battery is empty and won't charge, but charger is fine

My MacBook Pro battery is empty and won't charge. I did the PRAM reset when there was still some power left in the battery. The charger indicator light doesn't come on when I connect it to MacBook Pro, BUT it works just fine with my old white Mac book. This happened a few times before, and unplugging and plugging the adapter into the MacBook pro helped. Now nothing happens no matter how many times I reset the charger. Is there anything else I can do?

More than likely you need a new battery.

  • G700 - Energy Management says battery is not genuine and won't charge it!

    Hello
Apologies if someone has already posted this query and got a response. My G700 has Lenovo's Energy Management software (8.0.2.4) installed. Until recently, the battery would charge (and drain) as expected - it is the original that came with the laptop a few weeks ago. I'm running Windows 8 and haven't upgraded to 8.1 yet.
However, now I get a pop-up box from the software every time I boot up from saying that "the system does not support batteries that are not genuine Lenovo-made or authorized.....". Also, the software is preventing the battery from being charged, so I'm having to use the mains power.
Lenovo's support has suggested that it might be a (physical) problem with the battery, but it seems to be a software-related. Please can someone help with this one? Is there an update to the software that I can install? Can it be disabled to allow the battery to be charged? Does the problem go away with an upgrade to Windows 8.1?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Ammo23,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
This error may be a Software/Firmware Related or the battery is really bad and being read as not genuine.
    can you try Doing this,
     1. Try Performing a power Drain and BIOs Reset.
Remove the AC adapter and the battery, Now Hold Down the power Button for at least 10 sec. This will drain the Mainboard.
Reconnect the Ac and Battery and Turn on the system,Right away start tapping F2 to boot into BIOS Setting.
Hit F9 to Load defaults and enter for Yes then hit F10 To save and Exit then Enter for Yes.
     2. When Booted Back up to Windows,
Open Device Manager and under Battery Look for Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control method Battery
Right Click On it and uninstall it, Restart after uninstallation.
Check if the issue will be the same after the Steps.
If still the same, Uninstall the Lenovo Energy Management from Control Panel / Programs and restart the system.
check if the system will charge without the Energy Management Software,
If the same thing happened I would Suggest you call Lenovo Support right away and report the steps your did and still getting the same result.
    Let me know your Findings
    Cheers!

  • Battery drains like crazy, and now not charging fully! 3GS

My 3GS was 100% at 9am. I got a text message at 9:36am, and the battery was at 97%, so I went to reply to it. My phone shut off, like it had a dead battery, so I put it on the charger. About two minutes later, it turned back on and said it was at 62% battery! So, I kept it on the charger. It got to 72% and wouldn't charge any more. I took it off the charger for a moment before putting it back on. It wwent up to 73% and said it was full. I did that a couple more times, but it stopped charging once it hit 74%, so I'm not sure what to do. I need my phone! I don't have a land-line, so this is the only way I can communicate with my family, friends, potential employers, etc.
(I was having the problem of the phone shutting off before I upgraded to OS5, but it got worse once I upgraded.)

It has never been dropped in water, and the closest it ever gets to water is being in my pocket or bag when it rains. I did a full restore, and it got worse...

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • New Battery. Amber light. Doesn't Charge.

My battery and A/C adapter pretty much died at the same time, about 15 days ago. The computer was pretty much dead. I bought a generic charger on eBay, and when I plugged it in, nothing happened, as if it wasn't the right model. I returned it. Then bought another one, same result. Then bought an original OEM one, and made sure it matched with the exact model/part # as it stated on apple.com.
When I plugged it in, I finally saw some sign of life, as the amber light was on. However, my computer still did not boot up, nor made a sound, nothing, just dead. I finally decided to buy a new replacement battery. I got the battery today, installed it, and it came with about 45% charge. The computer finally booted up, but the charger, even though the amber light is on, it is not charging my computer.
Also, when the computer booted up, the date went back to Dec. 31, 1969. I've googled this for a while, and all I get to is resetting the PMU, which obviously hasn't worked. Any suggestions as to how I can make the charger work? It is part A1148, which is the exact one listed for my powerbook g4 15" 1.67 model.
    Thanks.

    Hi plax,
Your date going back to 1969 is a clue that your PRAM internal battery is dead.
Before doing anything drastic, why don't you leave the PowerBook plugged in for 48 hours to see if the internal battery will take a charge. As far as the other problems, it is certainly possible that this little battery is also the culprit.
After 48 hours of charge disconnect from the charger, remove the battery, and then in a few seconds replace the battery see if it will startup. If so is the date correct. If not, the PRAM Battery is dead and needs to be replaced.
    PB
