[Solved] libpcre.so.0 missing

Hi, I recently tried to fix my git and, after determining the issue was I didn't have PCRE installed, I installed it. Well git works, but nothing else does. I can't run any programs, I always get the following error message:
geddit: error while loading shared libraries: libpcre.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Any help will be appreciated.

Stop doing -Sy stuff, start doing -Syu stuff.
A full system update will solve your problem.

Not the case. HAL still works fine with the latest udev. The issue must have been elsewhere.

  • [Solved] lxde and pcmanfm missing options

Solved, read here: http://blog.lxde.org/?p=737 (both intentionally missing)
After last night's pcmanfm update (0.5.2-1  to 0.9.7-1), my pcmanfm is missing the tree option in the left panel (and judging from other posts, other things as well that I haven't needed yet).
Also my lxde now does not have a background nor is the entire tab available anymore in the "Desktop Settings" option (or anywhere anymore).  It is a totally different "Preferences" window only giving General, Display, Volume Management, Advanced tabs.
I have regularly switched between ratpoison and lxde|openbox.  I use "exec ck-launch-session lxde" in my ~/.xinitrc.  I also tried "exec startlxde" which didn't help.  I manually startx.
I have searched (and asked in #archlinux but nobody answered) and found these threads that touched on similar problems with pcmanfm but nothing about my issues that I could see.  I also looked in lxde forums but no luck.

feh (an image viewer allows you to set backgrounds. I have pcmanfm installed, but I rarely use it since most times I just use cli commands to browse thru files. There are other light and fast file managers on the wiki if you were looking to switch.

Also there are others that Archers have developed which you will find in the Community Contributions sub-forum. Ranger and qtfm come to mind

In gnome tracker, I get the following error,

  • [Solved] Mouse Sensitivity options missing in GNOME 3.8

I have a fresh install with GNOME 3.8 and the mouse sensitivity options are missing, although according to the documentation they should exist. There are no optional packages for gnome-control-center that would enable such a thing, and I have xinput installed.
Am I missing a package or configuration option of some kind, or is this a recently removed feature?

Logitech EX110 wireless, I can't remember really, I never felt like I'd needed to increase the senstivity until recently. Tried a new user, made no difference, tried a new mouse however, and the Mouse Sensitivity option appears. Apparently it depends on what mouse you are using, I thought those kinds of settings were applicable to any mouse but apparently not. Solved I suppose, I'll probably buy a new keyboard and mouse soon anyway.

If it was libpng related, on the front page of archlinux.org you would have seen a notice stating any cairo related packages needed to be updated/reinstalled. You could have just reinstalled cairo-ubuntu and should have done the same thing. I use the ubuntu version and the only time I saw an error relating to libpng was when they started the updates to that I think a week or two ago.

  • [SOLVED] Oxygen widget style missing/broken after KDE 4.8.0 to 4.8.1

    hi all,
(I'm was not sure where to place this thread so please forgive me if I should have placed in somewhere else :-))
Today I upgraded my KDE to 4.8.1 and now I'm missing the Oxygen widget style. I tried reinstalling kdebase and kde-workspace and I even uninstalled all of kde, followed by installing kde-meta (previously I had the "kde" package installed).
Since there is no "oxygen" package (or at least I couldn't find it) I'm really stuck here. I also couldn't find anything related in the forums, like issues from previous upgrades.
I made two screenshots. At [1] you see that only unthemed widget styles are available. At [2] you see that also GTK apps like firefox have lost their theming although oxygen-gtk is installed.
    I'd appreciate any help!
    cheers

    Thanks for your replies!
    bash wrote:See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Un … oxygen-gtk
Sorry, I shouldn't have posted that firefox screenshot. What I meant was that GTK applications are not themed as well. However, the main issue here is that there seems to be no theming at all, e.g., oxygen is not available for Qt applications (only built-in styles selectable, as shown in the first screenshot).
the_easterbunny wrote:I had the same problem. It seems that KDE ignores the "old" oxygen.so file. Moving /usr/lib/kde4/plugins/styles/oxygen.so to /usr/lib/kde4/plugins/styles/oxygen2.so solved it for me - however, it is only a workaround for that strange problem.
I have just tried to symlink the oxygen.so file to oxygen2.so, but unfortunately that hasn't changed anything.
additional info: I did a fresh install of the system on wednesday with KDE 4.8.0. I didn't have any problems with oxygen or theming back then. I also tried removing ~/.kde4.
EDIT: note that I'm in a full KDE session and QT_PLUGIN_PATH is set to $HOME/.kde4/lib/kde4/plugins/:/usr/lib/kde4/plugins/
    EDIT2: I just reported it as a bug -- https://bugs.archlinux.org/index.php?do … k_id=28838
EDIT3: It turned out it is indeed a configuration error. To anyone having this issue: delete ~/.config/Trolltech.conf

  • [SOLVED] P67A-GD65 mainboard missing Intel RAID Rom after updating BIOS

I use 2 HDDs to build a RAID 0 array using Intel P67 RAID driver. I've just updated the BIOS to the 1.I version, and after that my computer can't boot up, showing the message "Missing Operating System". I booted into DOS and failed to read my hard disk, combining with that the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Option ROM didn't show up during the POST (which prompts me to press Ctrl-I to enter the RAID configuration before I updated the BIOS), I think it's the Intel RAID driver's problem. However, the Marvell RAID's prompt still shows, so the Marvell RAID should still work well. I encountered the same problem the last time I updated the BIOS, but I forgot how I got it well again... Please help. Thanks a lot!
I didn't noticed that my BIOS settings had been reset after I updated the BIOS, so I should manually changed the SATA mode to RAID. I was required to run a system recovery after I set the SATA mode back to RAID since the system failed to load, and Windows re-installed the USB3.0 driver after the first boot after the update (I don't know why this is). And the problem solved. Hope this is helpful to guys have similar problem as me.

Please post the full system specs.

  • [SOLVED] Fresh Install - LXDE - Missing Window Decorations

    Hi folks,
I just did a fresh install on my netbook (Asus 1000h) which went flawless as allways. I did install Xorg, the relevant intel drivers, some small stuff like screen and the like and then went on to install LXDE as the desktop environment + the murrine gtk engine and some murrine themes. Everything is working, the murrine theme etc, except one thing: The window decorations are missing completely.
This is the first time sth. like that happened to me after a fresh install and I'm not really sure what could be missing and 3 hours after trying to delete my ~/.config ~./local folders (I'm using a backup of my ~ - I've checked permissions etc.) I'm ranning out of ideas. I'd be glad for any pointers as to how to debug this or what could possibly cause this.
    Thanks in advance.

LXDE does not provide a window manager (and window decorator). They just strongly advise to use OpenBox. On ArchLinux, the group of packages "lxde" doesn't install OpenBox, so you have to install it by yourself, or install another WM. Then, you will need to configure the way you launch X so OpenBox is used.
You may refer to http://lxde.org/lxde .

  • [solved] Gnome/GTK icons missing

    Hey,
yet another icon missing topic, but I didn't find anything similar to my problem in this forum.

    http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/4341 … gicon2.png

As you can see, icons are missing not only in the gnome menu, but also
in firefox (gtk app). Therefore, I think the problem is more related to GTK?!
Yes, I tried serveral icon themes and engines, no success.
    1. Anyone out there who got the same problem?
Because laptop and desktop have the same issue.
    2. Any further information about this issue?
    3. Any suggestions/advices?

  • [solved: PEBKAC] syslinux woes: "Missing operating system"

In light of http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/ … 23211.html I decided to try syslinux, but couldn't get it to work. I think I followed the wiki (i.e. the /boot partition is marked active etc.) but still got  "Missing operating system" error and had to use a liveCD.
If anyone is using syslinux for their bootloader, can you pleas post the configs or give me a hint what could have gone wrong?
Last edited by karol (2012-07-13 22:25:03)

I use syslinux (or more precisely the extlinux that boot from an ext{2,3,4} partition) successfully. Hereafter I briefly post what have to be done. If it still does not work. Repost posting exactly what you have tried.
    1) create a directoty /boot/syslinux, containing syslinux.cfg and possibly modules that you will refer in this file (notably menu.c32 and chain.c32). You can put symlinks on the condition that the symlinks point to file in the same partition.
small edit: pay attention of 2) if you use symlinks. the / of the pointed file is the root of the partition where syslinux it. It does not correspond to the way you see it in the system if this partition is not mounted in /. See 2).
    2) Place syslinux.cfg in this directoty. The root of the file mentionned are relative to the root of the partition containing the /boot/syslinux directory. You can also use relative paths that are relative to the directory /boot/syslinux (so if you have a /boot partition, the linux kernel will be referenced as /vmlinuz-linux, if /boot is on the same partition as / then /boot/vmlinuz-linux). I put here my config as an example: http://pastebin.com/zNunwupx
    3) Make the partition containing /boot/syslinux bootable.
    4) Put an mbr on the hard disk to be booted:
    dd if=/usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin of=/dev/sda bs=440 count=1
Replace /dev/sda by your hard disk. If you use gpt partition, you may have to use /usr/lib/syslinux/gptmbr.bin
    5) run
    extlinux /boot/syslinux

  • [SOLVED][AUR] lib32-allegro Missing dependencies...

    Hello community...
still on my first week on ArchLinux so bear with me...
    i find this strange...
im trying to install a game Beat Hazard Ultra (i have the bin file)
and beathazardultra can be found in the aur (game separated)
i looked at the PKBUILD for instructions and it says to put the bin in the same folder
    OK i got that part
    then sudo makepkg -s --asroot
    it says its missing lib32-allegro
this lib can only be found in AUR so i repeat the same procedure
NOW, the lib32-allegro is also Missing dependencies
when i sudo makepkg -s --asroot
i search the aur of the missing dependencies and found it...
i makepkg all of them and they installed
so now im ready to install lib32-allegro again... but its still saying that its missing the same dependecies... am i missing a step here?
    heres a screenshot:
(*EDIT: i know the screenshot says i used sudo makepkg -f --asroot but i also tried it with -s but it cannot find it on the official repo since its in AUR)

sorry, i suck at explaining so i hope the screenshot will provide clarity.... yup already enabled multilib... and i can see it enabled by -Syu
i know they gave me a warning about using --asroot isnt that what to use if you have a separate /root /home folder if you want to install it in /root? but if its not then... i will stop using it... ^-^
    anyways
i already rebooted my laptop just in case it needed a reboot to see the lib32 dependencies... but they are still missing
i would like to know why those dependencies are still missing...
