[SOLVED] Libreoffice icons in Arch

Hello,
I am using Arch 64bits (KDE4) and I just upgraded to Libreoffice 3.3.1. I'v read in release note that icons have changed for this version but in the KDE Kickoff menu icons look like the old OOO ones. any idea why and how to change that ?
regards
Olivier

not the menu icons. the ones in the startcenter main menu of libo have changed. just start it using libreoffice.

  • [SOLVED] libreoffice "loading document after login takes 30+ sec"

I have an arch install running xfce and lxdm as my login manager I have installed libreoffice per wiki instructions and configured memory optimizations as follows:
    Under Memory:
      - Reduced the number of Undo steps 20 steps.
      - Under Graphics cache, I set Use for LibreOffice to 128 MB.
      - I Set Memory per object to 20MB.
      - I Checked LibreOffice Quickstarter.
However, It still takes about 45 seconds to load any document, spreadsheet, or presentation after logging in. However when I load a second or third... document, spreadsheet, or presentation they load near instantly. Furthermore, if I open a terminal and type "libreoffice --writer /path/to/doc," I receive no errors or any verbose message. Has anyone encountered this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I have solved libreoffice's unacceptable behavior on my machine by:
    appending "/etc/hosts" with the following:
    127.0.0.1 $HOSTNAME localhost $HOSTNAME.(none)
    with $HOSTNAME actually spelled out
    ex "127.0.0.1 archden localhost archden.(none)"
With this miracle cure your libreoffice installation will fall within an acceptable standard of behavior.
PS. praying libreoffice is far more glorious in this respect.

  • Skype: no system-tray icon with Arch (+ xfce)

When I close Skype (the one and only skype window), skype is still running in the background. When I run Zenwalk with xfce, there is a skype icon as part of the taskbar, which indicates that skype is still running in the background. This icon does not pop up in Arch and xfce.
Here in the forum rdoggsv gave a hint to run "killall skype". However I would prefer to have the system-tray icon (and the right-click to close skype). By the way: skype on debian has this icon as well (see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=14874). How can I get this xfce notification icon in Arch, as long as Skype is running?

Are you sure you have system tray enabled on your xfce panel?  I don't use xfce, but skype shows up correctly in the tray using trayer...  I also remember it working correctly with xfce panel tray in the past so unless the latest version of xfce is buggy it should work without problems.

  • [SOLVED] [Openbox] Icon-theme not working(?)

I hope you guys could help me with the following problem.
Currently I'm running Openbox, compton, tint2, gtk2/3 on my Arch-system.

    Thanks for posts!
I have done all the steps, but real key was to reboot the system! Even pkill X didn't work. It's now solved.
To give users with the same issue a solution:
    - Set icon-theme with lxappearance
    - Be sure that gtk3.0/settings.ini has fallback and icon-theme the same value (not know if it really needed)
    - Reboot! pkill X didn't work for me.
    Thanks again.

    /Edit: Marking as solved.

Update: Solved it myself. The cause of this problem is the AUR package ttf-ms-win8, specifically the fonts /usr/share/fonts/TTF/segoeui*.ttf.

  • [Solved] Some icons are not shown in certain websites.

    For example:
    trello.com
    gist.github.com
    is like this:
many icons are not shown correctly. It happens to all browsers(firefox, chromium, opera) I tried in archlinux. So I guess it' s an issue with some graphic library.
It also happens to a gitlab server site I set up:
How can I debug this? Does it happen at your place?
EDIT: Solved by uninstalling change colors extension for chromium, deleting .mozilla solves for firefox, still happens for opera.

  • [SOLVED] Can I install Arch on the same PC, without a CD/USB/Netboot

    Hello
I'm kinda bored, and then I like to reinstall Arch over and over.. but I lack a CD/USB stick and/or another PC to do a PXE install, therefor..
Can I set up my current installation to boot into a new arch install when I reboot somehow?
    Thanks.

Ok I thought it was solved, but I was wrong.. here's what I did, hopefully you or someone else can help.
Downloaded the netinst image (160mb), copied:
    /mnt/iso/boot/archiso.img > /boot/archiso.img
    /mnt/iso/boot/vmlinuz26 > /boot/vmlinuz26-test
    Edited /boot/grub/menu.lst according to /mnt/iso/boot/isolinux.cfg
    # test
    title Arch test install
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz26-test
    initrd /archiso.img archisolabel=ARCH_201005 tmpfs_size=75% locale=en_US.UTF-8
Now, whenever I boot this.. it says "Waiting 30 seconds for device /disk-by/uid.. lots of dots here.
Ideas? I'd like to avoid making a new partition as suggested in the wiki, as it requires me to load a live cd of sorts anyway, so I can shrink one of my partitions.
    Thanks :-)!

  • [SOLVED] Network restart before Arch can access internet via IPCop?

The Leopard machines on our LAN have working internet on boot, my Arch box does not?
Even though I have the IPCop server's IP in the Arch /etc/resolv.conf.head file, I still have to do a sudo /etc/rc.d/network restart before I can use the internet.
Does anyone know how I can solve this one?

  • [Solved] Missing icons in GTK apps?

I'm missing some icons in GTK2 apps. Fbpanel doesn't have any task icons, and Gaim doesn't have buddy icons. There might be more, but those are the ones I've noticed so far....
I just reinstalled Arch using the pacman -r method, so I think I missed some packages....
Also, although it doesn't belong here, what package provides the "killall" command? I need that one too...

Fixed it. Pacman -S gdk-pixbuf and all was well. I figured it out after looking at the X log and realizing I was getting pixbuf errors. Doh!

  • [SOLVED] Can only boot Arch via CD

    Hi all,
I've installed 64 bit Arch on the 2nd hard drive of a Dell Optiplex 980.
It works very nicely, but I have a strange boot issue:
If I boot from the Arch CD, and select "Boot other OS", hit Tab, and manually edit the grub line to "chain.c32 hd 1 0", I am taken to the grub menu on the hard drive and can select my install which boots and runs fine.
If I select the 2nd HD in the BIOS boot menu (instead of the CD), I get to the same grub menu, but upon selecting my install, I get an Error 17.
Has anyone run into this before?
    Thanks in advance!
Last edited by basementhead (2010-09-24 17:52:11)

Turns out I misunderstood how grub works.
When I changed my menu.lst to (hd 0,0) it works.
I thought that the 2nd drive was (hd 1,0), which was reinforced by the boot CD working with (1,0), but I guess the drives are renumbered when you boot from CD?
The big clues were that the partition that grub said couldn't boot was 0xde (a Dell partition), and I was sure I'd wiped the entire drive, but I knew that the 1st drive was a default Dell/Windows7 install.
Then using grub command line menu, I typed "find /sbin/init" and it found it on (hd0,2), and the mystery was solved....
Anyway - fixed by treating the drive as if it was /dev/sda (hd 0,0) instead of /dev/sdb (hd 1,0)
    Thanks!

  • [SOLVED] Cookie settings for Arch Linux forum

I really do like the Arch Linux forum.
It is fast, plain and simple; perfect for a distro which is the same
But one thing is bothering me; the cookies.
The arch forum is the only forum for me where the 'new post' colored picture at the left side of the forum parts is not unmarked after reading the new posts.
After I have read all new posts, I do 'mark all topics as read' (the link at the right top) to have this result.
For example phpbb forums do have cookie settings where the forums which are read, automatically turn the 'new post' icon off; it is not colored but the normal color again.
Can it be that some forum settings are not completely right and this should be also the case at the Arch forums?
Hope I have explained it that way you can understand what I mean.

Yes, and it has nothing to do with the cookie (except a session).. at least i hope it doesn't cuz that would just make me twice as glad that we switched away from that horrid chunk of code called phpbb.
And on that note, search around a bit, because this has already been explained like three times.

  • [SOLVED] Fail to boot Arch x86_64 live CD on a HP laptop

    Hey, guys, what's up?
Well, here's the thing: I bought a new laptop a couple days ago and I'm kind of having some trouble. Its a HP Pavilion dm4-1063cl (this model: http://www.notebookcheck.info/HP-Pavili … 579.0.html, just in case).
I ran some tests in Windows 7 about the architecture of the processor and it clearly seems that it can support arch x86_64 bits. However, I tried to boot Arch x86_64 by a Net Installation CD and it doesn't work. The process fail in the "Loadin UDEV events" phase, something like that. PS: the i686 image boots perfectly.
Then, I thought that was the CD I burned the reason for trouble - I did not check md5sum and stuff like that. So, I burned another dual image (with boths i686 and x86_64) and tried to run again the 64bits kernel. It did not work in the same phase.
The only response I get is a dark screen that never seems to go away. It was a panic I've never seen before with Arch Linux.
The only alternative I can think right now is trying an older version of the live image CD and see what happens, but it doesn't seem like a very good option. Any ideas?
Hope someone of you can help me. Here in Brazil, most of computers we buy come with Windows installed and we don't have quite a chance of not getting - or paying for - it. I'm sure I'll have such a trouble installing dual boot with Arch Linux, but I really miss my Arch Linux...
And, damn, I worked too hard to get a new processor. I really dont wanna use Arch i686 on a pc with x86_64 architecture, it seems like an option, but a dumb one. =p
    Cheers,
    Wilson.
EDIT: It turns out that tt was not a kernel panic as I thought. The kernel changed the resolution of the display during this fase, and somehow it doesent work.
The trick I used to solve this was adding "nomodeset" to the kernel line in the Live CD booting. Btw, you can do it by selecting the booting option you want in the live CD and pressing TAB. Then, you can edit the kernel line. (:

At boot the brightness is, for some unexplained reason, set all the way down to 0 on these intel based DM4 laptops. A few simple <Fn>+<F3> turns the brightness back up.
To solve this I had to put this in rc.local -
    echo 6 > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
you can enter it manually to test first (as root). Try to turn your brightness up and down with it to make sure it works.
My fan ran like crazy too. HP chose to default a BIOS setting that keeps the fan running constantly. I disabled that and all is well. Fan only comes on when needed and lm_sensors shows my temps, right now, at 43C. Ambient is at 77F right now (I'm in Florida) and this kick butt Arch laptop is, in fact, on my lap.....
    Don't give up man.
First of all: thanks for replying.
I installed manually the "coretemp" kernel modules and lm-sensors now give some different response. The script "sensors-detect" does not find any answer.
Looks like the temperature run in a regular level (50º-60º), which I consider a good sign. However, sometimes when I use arch for 24h+, it shuts down suddenly and does not let me boot my computer again - I believe it is a overheating problem. Happened a couple times, big no big deal.
On the other hand, in Windows 7 I have no trouble at all. The temperature goes around 40º with some daily activities. It worries me out because I used - and I do use - largely and successfully Arch i686 version in crappy notebooks with no heating at all.
I tried some tweaks in the rc.local, but none of them seemed to really work. With cpufreq, I could slow down the processors and maintain a regular temperature. Looks like I can list some of the fans speed in the /sys/ files, but much of them do not seem to have any change at all. Some of them looks like to have some "max_state" set to low values like 1, but most do have a limit like 10.
I will keep trying. If there's anything new, I'll post here
    Cheers,
    Wilson

  • [SOLVED]Fusion-icon won't start after Nvidia driver update

    Hi,
Today I got an update from Arch including a new kernel and an update of my Nvidia drivers. I use GNOME with Compiz Fusion, that is started by Fusion-Icon. Now Fusion-Icon gives the following errors:
    [jozef@frodo ~]$ fusion-icon
    * Detected Session: gnome
    * Error: glxinfo not installed!
I searched in the repos, but I coulnd't find a package called "glxinfo".
    Could someone help?
    Kind regards,
    Jozef00

  • [solved] Thunar - icons in right-click-menu are gone

    Hi there.
Since some time my icons in the thunar right-click-menu are gone. I guess they disappeared with thunar 1.4 but I'm not sure.
Is there a way to make them come back? I have a hand full of custom actions and the icons help me to distinguish them faster.
When I open the custom actions manager the icons are still there and are correctly from my current icon theme.
    Thanks for help in advance.

    Forgot:
No DE, WM: Openbox, but both gtk2 and gtk3 are there and up to date.
I realized that other icons are missing too. Thunderbird and Firefox don't have icons in their drop down menus as well.
    Has something changed in gtk?
Uhrg. Just found it. In lxappearance you can tick 'Show icons in menus'. Don't know why this was unticked.
    So thread is solved.

  • Libreoffice: XAllocID error (arch & linux newbie)

I updated my Arch a couple of days ago and libreoffice apps won't start up. When attempting to run from a command line, the following error appears:
    soffice.bin: xcb_io.c: 470: _XAllocID: Assertion 'ret != inval_id' failed.
After spending the last two days trying to figure this out on my own, I am raising the white flag and asking for help!
Incidentally, pacman output the following error during the update:
g_module_open() failed for /usr/lib/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders/libpixbufloader-tiff.so: libjpeg.so.62: cannot open shared object file: No
    such file or directory
I don't know if this is related - and I haven't been able to track down any info about this either. If it seems unrelated to the libreoffice problem then please ignore...
    Thanks,
    Ms. Muss

I'm thinking it may be a mirror problem as well. I got the latest mirror list and did a ranking of all mirrors, following the instructions in the arch wiki article. Still have the problem.
Here are the top 16 mirrors in my mirrorlist:
