[SOLVED] Libreoffice StartCentre is Mainly Transparent

Since LibO 3.4  I have this weird issue where the startcenter is cut off and shows the background of what's underneath. Did not have this issue on Libreoffice 3.3. Still have the issue on 3.5. When I boot into windows and mac on same laptop, the start centre looks fine.
Anyone else have this issue? Anyone know how to fix it. When I resize the window it looks even more whack. I have not found any relevant bug reports. I have Intel onboard graphics. Sometimes some dialogs will be completely transparent for a few seconds before I can see. Just like the corners. An example of this would be when I close firefox. The tab warning dialog will be completely transparent for  a few seconds like the corners of the window below.

Yeah I have used other DEs and have the same problem. I just launched it again and now I have overlapping. Ran gnome-shell replace in terminal and the overlapping stops but the transparency stays. Weird that the start center has not really changed since LibO 3.3 but that I do not have the problem using that version.
EDIT: the intel driver upgrade seems to have fixed the issue.

  • [SOLVED] libreoffice "loading document after login takes 30+ sec"

    I have an arch install running xfce and lxdm as my login manager I have installed libreoffice per wiki instructions and configured memory optimizations as follows:
    Under Memory:
      - Reduced the number of Undo steps 20 steps.
      - Under Graphics cache, I set Use for LibreOffice to 128 MB.
      - I Set Memory per object to 20MB.
      - I Checked LibreOffice Quickstarter.
    However, It still takes about 45 seconds to load any document, spreadsheet, or presentation after logging in. However when I load a second or third... document, spreadsheet, or presentation they load near instantly. Furthermore, if I open a terminal and type "libreoffice --writer /path/to/doc," I receive no errors or any verbose message. Has anyone encountered this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Ok, I have solved libreoffice's unacceptable behavior on my machine by:
    appending "/etc/hosts" with the following:
    127.0.0.1 $HOSTNAME localhost $HOSTNAME.(none)
    with $HOSTNAME actually spelled out
    ex "127.0.0.1 archden localhost archden.(none)"
    With this miracle cure your libreoffice installation will fall within an acceptable standard of behavior.
    PS. praying libreoffice is far more glorious in this respect.

  • [SOLVED] LibreOffice and Network Shares via Gigolo

    My work desktop mounts shares in Active Directory using Gigolo. I am able to mount, browse and generally be at peace with the world with this setup with Thunar and Nautilus, and everything else (eg, gedit).
    For some reason, LibreOffice refuses to show any of the network mounts. When I try and save a document, the mounted shares just aren't there. I would expect them to show under "My Documents" in the left of this [img]screenshot[/img].
    Browsing to ~/.gvfs/ doesn't display anything either.
    If I try and open a file from any of the shares by double-clicking them in Thunar/Nautilus then I get the LibreOffice splash screen and then nothing. The main window doesn't open and the process terminates.
    Any ideas folks?

    Well that's embarressing that it was that easy. That makes the whole thing look much better too. I had no idea there was a split of a separate Gnome package, but looking at the wiki it doesn't appear to be mentioned anywhere other than for making everything look nicer. I might fix that up.
    Thanks Awebb   +50 internets for you.

  • [SOLVED] libreoffice update "failed to read path from javaldx"

    I don't have java installed as I do not use it (aside from whatever is built into chromium I guess). Libreoffice started up fine before the update. I had the option checked to not use java in the gui. Now it won't load at all. Is java-runtime now a hard dependency of libreoffice-common package? Is there any way to disable it? My ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/config/javasettings_Linux_X86_64.xml looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!--This is a generated file. Do not alter this file!-->
    <java xmlns="http://openoffice.org/2004/java/framework/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">

    <userClassPath xsi:nil="true"/>
    <vmParameters xsi:nil="true"/>
    <jreLocations xsi:nil="true"/>
    <javaInfo xsi:nil="true"/>
    </java>
    I am looking into other files included with "pacman -Ql libreoffice-common" but can't seem to figure it out yet.
    Edit: Also I have tried "# chown -vR dodo3773:users ~/.config" per the LibreOffice wiki entry. No pacnew files or anything in /etc either.

  • [SOLVED] Libreoffice Impress - Horizontal Scroll Broken

    So Libreoffice Impress on my setup, even before the big upgrade to 3.4.2, has had this issue where the slide viewer portion of the window actually overlaps the horizontal scroll bar and buttons, which makes them unusable.  I don't know if this is an issue with my DE or if it's an upstream problem, but it's ugly and frustrating when trying to work on something big like a poster.  Right now, the issue shows up with KDE 4.7, I can't remember if I tried this with GNOME 3.
    Here's a picture of the problem:
    http://postimage.org/image/31eqjbb50/
    Suggestions are appreciated.
    Last edited by Deemoney14 (2011-08-07 15:31:20)

    I had this too and solved it (search on this forum after reading this).
    It Is caused by native libreoffice.org QT4 integration, which is flaky.
    Install and use the gnome integration package libreoffice-gnome.
    Not sure if you also need libreoffice-kde4 (for the kde4 file dialogs)
    I just installed both of these packages.
    And add this line to your /usr/bin/soffice
    export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome soffice
    This forces libreoffice to always use above settings.
    But the file /usr/bin/soffice will be written over when you update the packages.
    So perhaps it is better to add the export to your bashrc or something.
    Good luck and let us know if this works
    John
    PS In kde 4.7 there is a much improved kde4 compatibility mode for gtk apps under kde4.
    This will give you visually better results than the native soffice QT4 integration anyhow.
    PPS How is kde4.7 working anyway? I am hesitant to "upgrade" from a .5 point release to a .0 point release.
    Is it stable?

  • [SOLVED] libreoffice extension pdfimport do not work

    I have installed the libreoffice-extension-pdfimport (3.3.2-2). But when I try to open a pdf file nothing happens (no error messages, just nothing). Hi,
    thanks for help. After lunch I can see the tomcat HP now, the command
    $ ss -lnp|grep
    tcp    LISTEN     0      100      :::8080                 :::*
    I edit the bashrc to point TOMCAT_JAVA_HOME to the java-sdk-8 - an older forum poster said he changed the bashrc to get sun java permanently. His error messages was caused because TOMCAT_JAVA_HOME pointed to openjdk.
    So, my bashrc contains a line:
    JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-jdk
    I tried according to archwiki on Java:
    # archlinux-java status
    Available Java environments:
      java-8-jdk (default)
    # archlinux-java set java-8-sdk
    '/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-sdk' is not a valid Java environment path
    I am confused ?!

  • [Solved] Libreoffice 3.6.1.4 don't start

    Hello,
    please excuse my bad english.
    I have a problem. Since the libreoffice update from 3.5.6 to 3.6.1.4 libreoffice don't start. For a short time i see the splash-screen and that's it. In the terminal, when i type soffice or lowriter or libreoffice --writer i can't see any message. Also i deleted the ~/.config/libreoffice folder. But that doesn't help. These packages are installed: libreoffice-common libreoffice-gnome libreoffice-de libreoffice-writer libreoffice-calc. When i downgrade to 3.5.6 everything is fine.
    I have a laptop with openbox and a desktop-pc with gnome. Same problem on both systems.
    Do you have any tip for me?
    Thanks Michael

    Experiencing the same problem here though I found out that the reason for LibreOffice to crash/segfault is the existence of a aquabase-language-support.ttf file which as far as I remember was perfectly accepted in previous versions.
    Once I remove it from my .fonts folder LibreOffice loads as it should (no deep testing performed though).
    Therefore, in case you are using a .fonts folder on my behalf I would suggest to check out its content (back it up and empty the folder and add the fonts again one by one checking each time if LibreOffice crashes or not until you find which of them may be the reason for the crash).

  • [Solved] libreoffice-3.4.1-2 and General Error opening/saving file

    I've just done a 'pacman -Syu' and had libreoffice upgraded to version 3.4.1-2.
    Now whenever I open a file (new or existing document) or save the file, I get a small window with the meaningless error message:
    General Error
    However, at least the file can be edited normally and seems to be saved okay in reality.
    Anyone else finding this problem?
    PS: It happens no matter if I load LibreOffice via the soffice or libreoffice commands; also there are no text messages shown if run from a terminal.

  • [solved] libreoffice opens in German language not english

    Title says it all. Basically libreoffice opens up and all the menus and things are in german so naturally I can't read any of it. Is there any way to change this?
    Last edited by SiegeMachine (2011-09-04 23:32:51)

    You were lucky! I would be okay if mine had opened in German as I can sort of read it, but it opened in some weird language that may as well have been martian! Have you ever tried finding the Settings and Language options in Martian? It isn't fun! In the end I uninstalled and re-installed since I couldn't find an answer. Works fine now.
    I can only assume that when I first installed it I must have not noticed that English wasn't the default option. I made sure I selected the right option when I re-installed.
