[SOLVED] libtirpc 0.2.2-3 makes it unable to login

After the installation of libtirpc 0.2.2-3 (and a reboot) I cannot login to gnome anymore. If I click an account the password input field does niet appear.
Login in from a tty gives me: login incorrect after entering the username. It is also not possible to login with root.

Thanks for this thread.  I was locked out of my machine, and saw this when running a LiveCD.  Your post let me know just how I needed to fix it.

    In AppStore.app for some reason when I try to update my apps, it asks for the wrong user account than the one that I am logged in with. This makes me unable to update my apps

    You would have downloaded those apps with the wrong Apple ID then created a new Apple ID which is the on you are on now. This is acting as normal because all content downloaded from the iTunes and App Store is attached to the Apple ID it was downloaded with. To stop this you would delete the apps and redownload them with your current Apple ID you are signed in with.

    You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it.  If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.

    display "Application over 20MB" when I type OK button, the appearance will not go away and make me unable to open other applications, what to do and whether it must be restarted?

    The 20 meg message is the download limit for 3G. If you can't get rid of the 'OK' message then you can do a reset by pressing and holding both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
    You should be able to download the apps by switching to wifi on your iPad or downloading them on your computer's iTunes and syncing them or dragging and dropping them over to the iPad device.

    It sounds like you want to use Forced Authorization Code. On the route pattern out check 'Require Forced Authorization Code' and set a level. Callers using the route pattern will now be prompted to enter their code with 3 beeps. Go under Feature-Forced Authorization Code and create some codes. If the codes are the same or higher level as what is assigned to the route pattern the call will go out.

  • Toshiba Satellite A665 wont make it to the login screen

    Hi
    My laptop can't make it to the login screen. Ive tried holding down 0 at the start, but the recovery menu thing wont come up. Ive tried all the commands in the start up menu and they all lead to black screens or going back to the boot menu. I would really like to get my laptop functioning, I dont care if I have to wipe all memory and everything off, as long as I have a laptop to use other than our family computer.

    Please include your full model number when posting problems on the forums. It can be found on the bottom of your laptop. "A665" is only partial.
    If booting from the recovery partition isn't working, you'll need to use external recovery media. If you didn't make recovery discs, you'll need to order them.

  • [SOLVED] Following Beginners Guide, do I make /root bootable?

    Hey guys!
    I am trying to follow the Arch Linux Beginners Guide, but I seem to be stuck at one thing. When making my partitions manually, which of the four sda partitions do I make bootable? I can't seem to write on the partitions unless I make one bootable.
    They only seem to have a /var, /root, swap, and a /home partition! Thank you!

    You can use ext4 with auto prepare. It prompts you for the fs type for your root and home partitions.
    I just realized I pressed enter too quick and skipped that option! I am sorry about that! Hope I didn't waste you guy's time!

  • [SOLVED] Network connection issues - need to make connections twice

    I've a strange issue with my network connection that has recently started to appear where if I:
    - Attempt to install a package with pacman.
    - Visit a webpage in chromium.
    - FTP a file using Thunar.
    - SSH into a server.
    Then I quite often have to attempt the connection twice i.e:
    - Pacman will return "error: failed retrieving file" on a first attempt, but be fine on the second.
    - Chromium (or any other browser) will partially load pages or will show a 'Server Not Found' message on the first attempt but be OK after a refresh.
    - FTP will not resolve the server on the first attempt but will on the second.
    - ssh will return  "Could not resolve hostname Name or service not known" on the first attempt then be fine on the second.
    This issue just used to occur with pacman & ssh and I just put it down to 'one of those things I needed to fix when I had time'. Yet the issue has recently started occuring with chromium as well so is making browsing the web a real pain.
    I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to track down the issue so would appreciate any tips!
    I'm using netctl to connect over wifi & just as I tried to post this message an error appeared in Chromium which may give me some hints as to how to fix this:
    The server at bbs.archlinux.org can't be found because the DNS look-up failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Chromium from accessing the network.
    I'm using netcl to connect over wifi.
    I also recently installed dhcpd which I occasionally start and stop though the issue with pacman & ssh was occurring before this.
    Thanks

    Thanks for that Strike0. It prompted a thorough reading of a number of man pages, though while I 'think' I understand the general concept of how things should be working, I'm finding the configuration confusing!!
    I created and added some nameserver settings to the following config file '/etc/resolv.conf.head'  (googles 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 also work):
    $ vim /etc/resolv.conf.head
    # OpenDNS servers
    nameserver 208.67.222.222
    nameserver 208.67.220.220
    Then I reload  /etc/resolv.conf and view its new content:
    $ resolvconf -u;cat /etc/resolv.conf
    # Generated by resolvconf
    # OpenDNS servers
    nameserver 208.67.222.222
    nameserver 208.67.220.220
    domain home
    nameserver 192.168.1.254
    And this seems to make everything work, where network connection are being reached after the first attempt!!
    Though I'm confused why 192.168.1.254 is being used? Am I right in understanding that 192.168.1.254 is a broadcast address so all network devices on 192.168.1.* are being queried for a DNS server? If I use the host command on 192.168.1.254 it seems to fail.  Does this fail mean that my home router is not working correctly or theres' an internal config issue?
    $ host www.archlinux.org 192.168.1.254
    Using domain server:
    Name: 192.168.1.254
    Address: 192.168.1.254#53
    Aliases:
    www.archlinux.org is an alias for gudrun.archlinux.org.
    gudrun.archlinux.org has address 66.211.214.131
    Host gudrun.archlinux.org.home not found: 2(SERVFAIL)
    What does the "Host gudrun.archlinux.org.home not found: 2(SERVFAIL)" output mean? Where is it getting the .home name from?
    As comparison
    $ host www.archlinux.org 8.8.4.4
    Using domain server:
    Name: 8.8.4.4
    Address: 8.8.4.4#53
    Aliases:
    www.archlinux.org is an alias for gudrun.archlinux.org.
    gudrun.archlinux.org has address 66.211.214.131
    In one of the man pages I saw that you can test an internal DNS with:
    $ host www.archlinux.org 127.0.0.1
    ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
    Though wouldn't a dhcpd4.service need to be running for that to work?
    Lots of questions I know, but I would like to understand exactly what's happening so I can easily trouble shoot in the future.

  • [SOLVED] Is it necessary to use `make $MAKEFLAGS' with a PKGBUILD?

    I'm sorry if this question has been asked many times before, but I'm curious to know if it is necessary to run `make $MAKEFLAGS' when compiling a PKGBUILD; the C{,XX}FLAGS specified in my rc.conf seem to be used when I compile packages, but is it necessary to specify `make $MAKEFLAGS' rather than just `make' in order to utilize the flags I've placed in the config file?

  • [SOLVED]some console commands without console make gui programs killed

    I'm using openbox as WM. I think it is openbox that causes the trouble
    it seems that when I try ot execute some console application without console but the application needs user input, the problem occurs.
    when the issue arises, gui programs gets killed, leaving its window blank.
    not all of gui programs though, chromium and conky got closed but xterm didn't.
    however, they survive when they are executed with xterm.
    I could reproduce the problem with sudo or alsamixer, run by either right-click menu or gmrun.
    Is there anyone experiencing the same issue?
    sorry for my english.
    Last edited by freaxtux (2012-08-25 03:05:17)

    If you are trying to run a console or terminal application that needs user input, it must be run in a terminal window.  For example, to run alsamixer from the openbox menu I would have this in my ~/.config/openbox/menu.xml:
    <item label="Alsamixer">
    <action name="Execute">
    <execute>xterm -e alsamixer</execute>
    </action>
    </item>
    The command on the line with "<execute>" opens an xterm window and then the '-e' option tells xterm to run the next command on that line.
    Urxvt also uses the '-e' option to run commands.  To get htop to run from the open box menu in a urxvt window, I would use this:
    <item label="Htop">
    <action name="Execute">
    <execute>urxvt -e htop</execute>
    </action>
    </item>
    For gmrun, I believe you use Ctrl-Enter to have it open an app in a terminal.  At least that is what the wiki page says: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gmrun

  • SOLVED - Unable to login into xfce after upgrade

    I upgraded my Arch computer. When rebooting I get SLIM and can enter my login/password but can go any further as it loops back to SLIM. I've read another post on consolekit & HAL.
    I have consolekit 0.4.1-2 and HAL 0.5.14-1. SLIM gets started via /etc/inittab
    id:5:initdefault:
    x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/slim >& /dev/null
    And my .xinitrc looks like:
    #!bin/sh
    exec ck-launch-session startxfce4
    It has been working for months this way. Too bad to be stuck today.
    Any hint on how I can debug this issue?

    Hi John,
    Thanks for reply
    I got error while doing following steps in few procedures
    Change directory to c:\oraclexe\apex\owa, open the README.TXT file and follow the instructions within to complete the installation
    Before doing the above step i was able to login into my application but without images
    Can you please help that how to check those errors and any particular procedure you know which is responsible for the Login problem.
    Thanks a Lot for help John
    Thanks & Regards
    Sanjay

  • [SOLVED]Gnome 3.2 fail - black screen with cursor on login

    I have tried to get gnome 3.2 to work properly for at couple of hours now..
    I get a black screen with a cursor, when i should get the login screen.
      And it just stays there at least for 10 min (tested)
    To log in i have to restart GDM once or twice..
    And then suddenly i get the login screen.. Sometimes rendered correct, other times it is not, but it works ok...
    Once i have logged in there is no problem at all..
    /var/log/gdm/:0-greeter.log - first attempt is a fail..

    Stunts wrote:I also had that problem, altough on a different computer. And by themeing not working I mean "I can't change any dconf settings". It was due to ~/.cache being owned by root (go figure).
    Unfortunately this is not the case for me.  I erased the directory, just in case (perhaps this was stupid), but this does not help easier.  Somehow gnome-settings-daemon is not started, or crashes somewhere on the way.  When I start it manually, then it works.
    I have erased the color plugin (/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0/libcolor.so) as per advice somewhere else on this forum, but this did not help either.
    Most themes don't work on Gnome 3.2 tough due to an API change. You'll just have to wait for the theme authors to update them.
    I am using the default theme (I believe), so I think this is not the reason in my case .
    EDIT: It was not easy to figure out how to start up gnome-settings-daemon manually. So for the record, I found it in /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon (not in my PATH).

  • How to make use of SSO login credentials of oracle in Authentication shema using APEX

    Hi
    I am using SSO login for Authorizations. Would like make use of SSO for creating authentication schema. I would appreciate if someone can help me on this. My main requirement is to assign privilege based on users using SSO loging.

    Here's an example.
    I create a new application in APEX called Master with Application ID = 100. I modify some templates, create some LOV's in this master template.
    I create a 2nd application in APEX called Subscriber with Application ID = 101.
    In 101 I go to Shared Components => List of Values => Create. Choose to create as a copy of an existing list of values. In the dropdown, I choose Master (100) and click Next. You then are presented with all of the LOV's from your master application. First off you want to change the name from Copy of <LOV> to just <LOV> more because it is kind of confusing if you don't. In the copy drop-down, this where you choose Copy and Subscribe.
    The way it works is that once an object subscribes, you always make changes to that object in Master (100), and there is a button to push that change to all subscribing applications. So if you have 30 applications subscribing to that one LOV, you just make the change once, push it to the subscribers and they are now up to date.
    Keep in mind it doesn't work with all objects and only certain objects may be subscribed to. Objects like Application Processes for instance do not have a subscription feature, but you could use packages to keep common logic and just reference the same package anywhere you need it.
    What I ended up doing was to create a master and a subscription application. The subscription template has no actual pages, just subscriptions to templates and LOV's that I need. Whenever I need a new application, I just create a new application as a copy of that subscription application and my subscriptions are already setup for me.
    Check out the documentation and just search for Subscribe or Subscription and it should explain pretty much what I did above.
