[Solved]Login delay of up to 12 seconds even on TTY

TL;DR
Installed Qingy a while back, NVIDIA driver didn't like it, so I uninstalled it.
Since have long login delay on my account, new accounts are fine.
If I'm already logged in, this account is fine.
Full details:
Let's start from the top- My system was running great, and is still, as far as I can tell, running great.
On login, I have a 8-12 second delay on my Rojikku account.
This started happening after I attempted to install quingy (That was hell.)
I did all sorts of stuff attempting to get the qingy gui to work, and I never did.
I eventually undid everything, at least I believe I did, and uninstalled quingy.
I started the whole qingy search because I heard slim was abandoned, and qingy sounded cool.
I have since been using lightdm, which I thought was the problem.
In the process of going to fix this problem, I logged out completely and went to login to the tty, when I discovered I have the issue.
This issue WILL NOT happen if I am already logged in with my xsession started.
For example, I am on tty2 with this i3 session open. If I switch to tty3, my login will be instant.
If I close out of tty2, and login on any tty, it will take ten seconds or so.
If I attempt to login on a new account I just made, the login is instant.
I use the zsh shell. I assume everything outside of my shell is fairly irrelevant, though I have a couple user systemd processes.
I couldn't find the issue on Google, though I have a basic understanding of "Something that needs to see I'm logged in isn't seeing it until it reloads after about ten seconds". That could be completely wrong.
In case you're wondering, no, I didn't make any other major changes just before this started happening.
I run the nvidia driver, which wasn't very compatible with qingy.
My kernel is at 3.18.6-1-ARCH
I'm running off an SSD, 30GB partition, and I have 16GB of RAM.
My processor averages less than 20% load even when I'm doing a lot of stuff much more intensive than logging into a tty session.
I use the i3 window manager, for those curious, and have xinit setup to allow me to choose between it and xfce4. I have xfce4 installed so that I am not missing any major dependencies- or at least am less likely to be, as far as I can tell.

set -x was certainly interesting.
There's, by my timing, around a five or six second delay, before a rainbow falls from the sky. Then it becomes a shell. The fact that a rainbow of text flew in out of nowhere slightly distracted my ability to count time. Is there some way I can log this output so I can analyze it?
It's slightly too fast for me to see. By slightly, I mean a lot.
As for log/journal, I have no idea how to access that... I tried a few things, not getting anything.

    Users need all the help they can get ;-) The traffic here is down significantly... no way of knowing if that's due to the forum problem or the product.
    Apologies for my obvious frustration... this problem has been wasting my time for too long and since generous individuals such as you and others are doing the work that adobe abdicates for free, the least they should do is to remove the blockades that their (adobe's) apathy places in their path.
    The page I am sending this from at the moment shows "logged in as Beverly Howard" at the top but clicking "post message" results in a "login delay" failure, so the only option is to navigate back to the top, log in, navigate back to the message an try again... sometimes several times... tip for others... copy the message body from the edit box before you navigate back.

    Rollover Sidelet disappears after a few seconds even when the mouse hasn't left the "hit area." There is enough text in the sidelet that the user cant read it all before it disappears on its own. Then they have to move their mouse off the hit area and back on it to see it for another 5 seconds. How do I fix this?

    You should tell which version you are using. If you are on CP7 or earlier, look in the Properties panel of the slidelet, not the slidelet area (that is the rollover area, blue rectangle): change time in Timing accordion.
    If you are on CP8, for the same object (slidelet)  change its time in the Timing panel that is now no longer in the Properties panel.

  • New Installation : Login Delays and Wifi Problems

    Hey There,
    I just a HP Pavilion DV2850ET laptop computer and decided to run Arch on it. But I have 2 major problems as for now. I'll be very pleased if I get over them.
    1) When the kernel starts loading with vga=792 parameter on, 2 Arch Linux logo shows up instead of 1.. I don't think that this is normal.
    2) I've installed all packages with the newest ISO image release: Archlinux-i686-2007.08-2.core.iso - It's installed without any problems. When the login prompt appears (that I'm going to write root to do the rest of the installation for a while) I can't write anything for about 10-15 seconds. After the 10-15 seconds of waiting, I can write whatever I want.. But this happens all the time and I have to wait everytime I open the computer. I thought that maybe this could be something related with the kernel installed so I upgraded to testing. But nothing changed. This is the most annoying part actually..
    3) I have 07:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02) on the laptop. There are several modules for this card as far as I can see like: ipw3945, ipl3945, etc.. During the installation, I let hwdetect to fill modules part in rc.conf and it added these modules: sky2 iwl3945 snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-hwdep snd-page-alloc snd-pcm snd-timer snd snd-hda-intel soundcore - What are all these sound modules any way ? Are they really necessary ?

    At this moment, I believe the ipw3945 module and it's deamon work better than the iwf3945. So you can start changing this. In the module line in rc.conf change iwf to ipw. In the deamons line add before the network deamon ipw3945d and youre done.

  • Client issues from behind firewall (login delays)

    I have a Novell 6.0 server outside the firewall and am beginning to set
    up clients on the inside of the firewall. There appears to be no
    issues with the outside clients connecting to the outside server.
    However I am having strange issues with the inside clients
    authenticating to the outside server. (all clients are WinXP)
    If I do not sit for at least 10 seconds at the novell login screen on
    the client at first boot-up before attempting to login, the client will
    fail. If I try again after that, it goes right in. If I do wait for
    the 10 seconds, the client authenticates the first time.
    If I put an IP address in the server name field of the login dialog
    box (instead of the servers FQDN) the client authenticates the first
    time.
    Has anyone seen this before or know where to begin looking? There does
    not appear to be a delay issue with the DNS server, as once the desktop
    is up all web browsing and pings respond quickly.

  • Logon script delayed by 5 minutes (300 seconds)

    It appears Windows 8.1 may have a built in delay processing logon scripts of 5 minutes.  Obviously, seems how it is brand new I'm not finding an ounce of information about it anywhere.
    Basically, I have troubleshooted this problem for hours now.  It boils down to the simple fact that I have several brand new Windows 8.1 systems joined to a Server 2003 domain.  Users have a GPO applied to them that assigns a logon script that
    maps network drives and printers.  After logging in, the script does not execute until 5 minutes have passed.
    I have removed all other GPOs, eliminated all non-microsoft services and shut off all startup items.  It makes no difference of admin or limited account, roaming profiles or folder redirection makes no difference.  Looking through the event viewer
    -> Microsoft -> Group Policy I can follow the the process step by step and everything looks great.  The event log shows the policy processing and application is happening within milliseconds.  Then there is exactly a 5 minute delay down to
    the second between:
    Group Policy Winlogon Start Shell handling complete
    and
    Starting Logon script for domain\user
    Task manager confirms that wscript.exe does not run until 5 minutes after logging in.  Once wscript.exe starts the logon script is processed as normal and the drives and printers are mapped as expected.
    I do not have any Windows 8 machines at this location, but I checked another location that has very similar policies and scripting and Windows 8 processes the logon script immediately.  This issue appears isolated to Windows 8.1.
    It appears that part of Microsoft's attempt to optimize the startup and logon process of Windows they may have added a 5 minute delay before processing logon scripts.  What I need to know is why, and where is the registry key to change this.

    Mark Russinovich had a very good session about troubleshooting slow logins this year at Teched.  I highly recommend you try running Procmon during bootup to identify exactly why its taking so long.  In his example it was trying to access a path
    for updates that no longer existed and it waited until it timed out and then continued on.  Another example of this was an environment that was installing McAffee every time during bootup which was causing slow logons.  Its worth a shot to at least
    ensure all your policies have been applied as the event log isn't verbose enough.

  • I would like to delay my alarms for a brief instance so that I know a signal is real and not a glitch, how could I delay an alarm for a second or two.

    I have a flow controller linked to fieldpoint that is tripping my alarm system (in Bridgeview) every time it reads a quick voltage difference. This occurs only for an instance, but it is enough to trip my alarms. I wanted to place in a 1 or 2 second alarm delay to make sure the signal is real, if it is than the alarm can trip. If it lasts for a brief instance I want the system to keep running and the alarm to ignore the glitch. How can I program that?

    The way you implement this entirely depends on your vi-code.
    An easy solution I could think of would be to low-pass filter your alarm-signals and check these values for limit-increase.

All is well while on the network, but when traveling, it takes our users about 20-30 seconds to login, presumably because the client is trying to authenticate against a domain controller. Accounts are setup as mobile accounts so the credentials are cached locally.
    It's frustrating that a solution isn't more readily published by Apple given how common a use case this is. It shouldn't be buried somewhere in a forum.

    I figured it was because AD was somehow being looked up. I got it nailed down the the wireless connection. Turning off the AirPort connection is not a viable option as not all users are savvy enough, or remember to turn it off before taking their laptop home. One instructor was setup this way and she's isn't happy with the "resolve".
    On further research, I have determined a plausible solution, at least with Mac OS 10.4.7. I haven't tested anything earlier. Open the System Preferences and then Network. Show the AirPort configuration, then click on the Option button located next the checkbox to show the AirPort status in the menu bar. There's a checkbox in there to "Disconnect from wireless networks when I log out." By checking this, the wireless connection will be disconnected but the card will remain on. This will force the computer to use the cached credentials on log in. When the user logs in, the computer will attempt to reestablish a connection with the wireless network.
    I'll let you know if this works with other Macs as well.

  • System slow down, login delay, slow apps

    I am running an xserve 2.8 quad core Intel Xeon with OSX 10.6.8. I have 350 users connecting from labs, all workstations are intel iMacs os 10.6.8. Users login fine during periods of quiet on the network, but when 2 or 3 classes login simultaneously the wait time for logins increases to 1 to 2 minutes. During this time if a teacher tries to open a powerpoint presentation from her home folder, the spinning beach ball takes over, even when that quits, there are long delays between slides. I have discovered that if the users login to a local account and then access their home folder by using the "Connect to server", the performance is much better.
    The students are all put into groups and utilize the group folder and group folder drop box. The network guys claim that network throughput and traffic peaks are well within the capabilities of the network, and the cpu usage on the server constantly stays below 20%, it has 12 GB of RAM installed. The three terabyte drives are arranged in RAID5. The question is "where is the bottleneck"

    Thank you for responding. I am trying to gather some information. With 48 connections the disk activity is mostly writing data vs. reading, maxing out at 27 MB/sec. Disk usage shows 186 GB free as this is the beginning of the semester. During this time I copied a 4.32 GB file from my workstation to the server in 6 min and 15 sec. During that copy, the disk activity averaged around 17 MB/sec.
    The network guys are going to try putting all the Macs on a VLAN over the weekend just to see what happens.

    We have a workflow in Send Notified vai SAP Express and
    E-mail step that is delayed occasionally.  Each time it happens, I've noticed that the log (see below) contains an entry for SWW_WI_ADMIN_CALLBACK that executes
    for 10 to 15 minutes before the next step of the
    workflow.  This does not happen all the time, only occasionally.

    Have either of you tried a Reset Settings yet? (Settings App -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings NOT Erase All Content and Settings.) You could also try just the "Reset Network Settings" first too. Resetting settings will purge your lock screen and wallpaper, and probably some other things that will be annoying for a bit (like turning back on the keyboard clicking sound,) but it seemed to help my problems.
    I work on iPhone problems all day (mostly backup and restore right now), so I collect a lot of the debugging logs. I saw a lot of networking error garbage on my 5S right after upgrading from iOS7 that was vastly reduced after doing a reset all settings (I wish I would have tried just Reset Network Settings first, so I knew if that worked alone.)
    If that still doesn't help, I would love to take a look at your phone debug logs (like I said, I do iPhone troubleshooting all day, so investigating and hopefully fixing a serious problem sounds exciting to me ) If you want, you can contact me through my company's webpage: http://deciphertools.com/support.html and we can start looking at what kind of errors are happening while the wifi is acting up.     Hello there,
    Problem:
      - When booting into Arch I am either presented with the Login Prompt (Yay!) or a blank back lit screen (Boo!). The pattern is completely random. I can boot up 2-3 times in a row successfully then go on a streak of blank back lit screens and am forced to constantly reboot until I get it to work (see below):

    Search regarding blank screen turned up this thread, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151240 , which seemed relevant. It led to KMS though not sure exactly what that does even after reading the Wiki so I decided to post here rather than tinker with it and risk making things 100x worse than they already are.
    Any idea as to what could be causing my irregular boot behavior?

    Hmm, that seems to have fixed my problem. 9 successful reboots in a row. Figured with my erratic boot behavior as opposed to 100% blank screening that my problem was far worse when in fact the solution seems to have turned out to be quite simple.  Oopsie. My bad guys.
    Followed these steps to make the changes persistent, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_parameters , and seems to be holding up well. Will go ahead and marked as Solved and hope no more monitor boot problems arise.

  • [SOLVED]Login manager in KDE 4.3 does not work!

    This is a fresh install (just two days old and installed KDEbase just yesterday), and almost everything is working like a charm the only glitch I have experienced till now is that the login manager module in System Settings is not working as it should be. When I click on its button I know that it should normally ask me for my password but it does not do that and therefore when it opens up all the settings are greyed out and thus unchangable . Is this a bug or am I missing something (Anyone else experienced this!)?
    Also, although not related to this topic, can somebody tell me where to find the setting for making windows shift to different workspace while dragging them through the edges of the screen. I'm sure I found this setting under Window Behavior>Window Behavior module in Kubuntu but it is nowhere to be found on the Arch KDE.

    As nobody answered this question, I guess I'll just mark this thread as solved as even after a lot of search I'm unable to find the preference and so none of the arch users here know about it as well. I think that feature was kubuntu specific and as Arch ships vanilla KDE I think its useless trying to find it here.

  • Login screen changes resolution after a second

    It' weird but my login screen on this laptop with arch always loads up at a lower resolution (larger font) then after like one second the screen refreshes into a higher res login. Didn't really know where to search for this issue, does anyone have any idea why it does that? There's also like a randomly red-purple colored T character around the top of the screen doesn't really bother me but maybe it's related somehow. Also I'm describing this in context of an alienware m15x with nvidia geforce GTX 260m
    And it's being driven by the nouveau pkg xf86-video-nouveau

    I should be clear: it happens as part of the boot process - not when the machine is up and running. It always happens at the same point when the nouveau driver is loaded. The reason it changes resolution is because it is switching to a driver which supports the graphics card properly and so I'm getting native resolution after that point but not before. I can't say it bothered or bothers me. The first time it was heart stopping because nothing, nothing was working and I felt I'd tried everything to get the graphics to be bearable but after that it was just part of the boot process and I was always quite pleased to see it because it meant that the graphics driver was loading! (I had trouble getting it to work and ended up having to blacklist stuff or something. Since this was my first install of GNU/Linux, getting it all working on non-ideal hardware was somewhat like being thrown in at the deep end, even though I used Debian. At least, so it felt at the time... People kept telling me to use the nvidia drivers and I kept explaining that I could not do so because they didn't make them for PPC!)

  • Long login delay on SunRay clients

    I have a login problem for my Sun Ray clients.
    My environment is like this
    •     Solaris02 is the one of two broker servers running SRSS, VDI and SGD
    •     Solaris02 is the second of two broker servers running SRSS, VDI and SGD
    •     The Solaris servers are virtual machines running 64Bit Solaris patched today with latest patches, 2 CPUs 3GB ram. The SRSS is version 4.1 the bundled version from VDI 3.0 and the SGD is version 4.41
    •     The VDI is connecting to a vCenter server that serves XP clients SP3 with VDI client
    When a SunRay client boots, or the user presses the shutdown X on the top dropdown in the MS Windows session. Then the SunRay reconnects to the Solaris server it comes from. Or the one it gets
    If the SunRay client connects to Solaris02 the wait from getting an IP and connect to the Solaris VDI client is up to 5-10 minutes.
    If the SunRay client connects to Solaris03 the wait time is 5-10 seconds
    I have tried renaming the /usr/dt/lib/dtobsolete file from the SRSS release notes “Multihead CDE Kiosk Sessions (Bug ID 6645931)” this changed nothing:o(

    Well yes, that just avoids the issue by preventing start-pulseaudio-x11 from starting. I'll try that workaround until a real solution shows up. Thanks for your reply.
