[Solved] Loud pop noise, then laptop shuts down

So, I heard a loud "pop" noise like what happens when the power goes out, my laptop shut down. When I turned it back on, it didn't show that it was charging. So, I plugged in another power supply, when I used another one, it showed that it was charging. So, did my power supply go bad, and will msi replace it?

I agree with this one. If AC adapter is from them too just like the laptop (some don't provide AC adapter mostly on used one) then they should replace it. It will be considered a factory defect.

Sounds like it may be a blown capacitor. As long as you're still under warranty, MSI should replace the failed AC adapter. I'd say to just contact their support and see what they say.

  • Loud grating noise and automatic shutting down

I was writing on a blog and had created a new Wordpress page. I had not written any title nor had put any content in the body either. I chose "Pending" instead of "Draft" and went away for ten minutes.
The problem I have had with Wordpress is that it saves the draft every five minutes and with long pages or posts, the frequent automatic saving freezes the Firefox web browser I use and will cause me to Force Quit Firefox. This happens frequently - almost every time I edit a Wordpress post or page. I have to admit the post or page is usually very long and contains many images - about a hundred.
Today, I created a blank new page and went away. When I returned to the computer, I pressed a key to get going, and then a loud metallic rattling noise started plus a shadow descended over the screen.
There was a message along with this shadow that said I need to shut down the computer by pressing the Power button for several seconds, which I proceeded to do.
I then waited a minute before booting the computer.
A message came up that asked if I wanted to submit an error report to Apple as the computer had shut down in a funny way, and I submitted the report.
The only weird thing I did before the computer shut down was creating the page in Wordpress. Perhaps Wordpress.com doesn't like saving empty drafts? Maybe it created endless loops or took up all the space in the cache or something to cause my computer to act up ...
The noise was very loud. The laptop is the late 2010 model with SSD drive 250GB and 2.16 GHz.
Any opinions as to the likely the cause of this strange phenomenon?

I would boot from your USB restore drive (hold down D during boot) and run extended diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected. If none, watch it like a hawk and contact Apple support to follow up.

    Hi Rakesh_talwar,
I understand that you are having a problem with your video card driver for your Compaq Presario CQ61-312TU Notebook PC.  I will try my best to help you with this.
In this document for Downloading or Updating Software and Drivers for HP Computers it explains how to update the drivers. Try these steps to see if they resolve your issue.
In this document you can try Restoring the BIOS to the previous version, which may resolve the issue as well.

  • Liscense Agreement pops up, then iTunes shuts down

I just got an iPod today, and after downloading iTunes (the most recent one on the apple website, I found that it doesn't work properly. I've read through soome of the discussions, but mine is acting a little differently than anything I read. When I click on the shortcut, the "iTunes Liscense Agreement" pops up for a split second, then it disappears before I have a chance to click the "I Agree" button (let alone read the darn thing). I'm running Windows XP and this is my first experience with th iPod...please help! Thanks.

This has been a much reported problem for the last month or so, and the usual cause seems to be certain types of malware and/or spyware.
Download EWIDO anti-malware and run a scan on your machine. If it finds some malware, remove it. You may need to reboot into Safe Mode and scan from there in order to be sure you get it all.

  • Laptop shuts down at "Now Rating System Performance"

    Model number: PSAY3C-04S010
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
I attempted to restore the pre-installed software from the recovery hard disk drive.
Everything went smoothly, reached the screen "Configuring System... 71/71".
Then came the screen "Now Rating System Performance".
The bar would load a bit (maybe around 5%) and the laptop suddenly shuts down without warning.
I have tried turning the laptop back on, starting Windows normally, and it would bring me back to those 2 screens, and the laptop would shut down again at "Now Rating System Performance".
I have tried turning the laptop back on 4 or 5 times now, and the result is always the same. The laptop shuts down at that screen.
    What should I do?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I've confirmed the solution after consulting with a few technicians. Huge thanks to them. I'm sharing this here for anyone who might encounter the same problem in the future.
The solution: charge the battery to 100%, then with both the battery fully charged and the AC adaptor plugged in, start the laptop again, and the process should complete without any problems.
What I did wrong was to attempt to do the whole process on AC adaptor alone. I did not use the battery at all. When the performance-rating started, the laptop couldn't draw enough power from the AC adaptor alone, so it shut down automatically. With BOTH the battery and the AC adaptor, the laptop had enough power to finish the entire recovery process.

  • Popping Noise Then No Sound

I have a mid 2007 macbook with 10.4.11. I was listening to things on the internet (youtube, etc.), and it was working fine. I shut off the sound (F3), and a while later I wanted to listen to something else. I pressed F3, and I got a loud popping noise instead of the normal one. I pressed it again to shut off the sound, and got the same noise. I did this a few times, and it kept happening. I tried listening to sound with it turned all the way up, and there was no sound coming out of the speakers. I closed it to look at the speakers and see if there was something in them or something (there wasn't), and it went into sleep for a little while. When I opened it again, the sound was working perfectly fine.
It's still working like usual now - should I take it to Apple and see if something's wrong, or was this just a one time thing? If it happens again, should I just close the top again? What caused this?

Even if it's fixed now? Because it's been working fine since then.

  • My laptop shuts down immediately when i unplug the charger

Okay so I got my macbook air laptop about six months ago, so it's relatively new. About a month ago the harddrive inside failed and i took it to the aple store and they replaced the harddrive free of charge since i was still under the year warranty. I lost all my data since i didn't back it up but it worked normally after that. Now, about a month later, I'm having this charging problem. My computer charges very very slowly when its plugged in (i think it charged about 7 percent over like 15 hours), and the second i unplug the charger, the computer shuts down. I tried looking around the internet for solutions and some people with the same problem say they have like a red or black x where the battery is, but nothing looks out of the ordinary on mine except for the fact that it charges so slowly. In all the time that I've had and used it it's only gone fully dead and shut off by itself a few times (what i mean is that, i almost never let it go completely uncharged, when it was low on battery i charged it instead of letting it die). Also, when i unplug the charger, right before my laptop shuts down, i can see that the battery percentage without the cord plugged in is 0 percent even though that makes no sense because when the charger is in it says 85 percent. The only thing i can think of that I've been doing differently on my computer recently is that two days ago i couldn't find the wall piece for my iphone charger so i charged it via the usb port in my computer a few times. I didn't think this would affect my computer though? This could be totally unrelated, but it's the only thing i can think of that's different than usual. Also, the computer works totally fine when the charger is plugged in. I've had this problem for a few days now and i think it's getting worse. When it first started, the computer would only shut down a few minutes after i unplugged the charger, but now it shuts down within seconds of the charger coming out. I'm very hesitant to open the computer up because I'm not the best with computers and I'm afraid I might mess something up inside. If it really is a problem with the battery and it has to be replaced, I guess that's okay because I'm still under warranty, but I'd prefer if i could fix this on my own. Thankyou so much for your help and all answers are appreciated

Simple, You have a hardware problem that only Apple can fix. So you need to take it back in to an Apple store and have it fixed by Apple. If it is still within it's one year warranty period it will be free.
If you khaven't bought the Apple care Extended Warranty, Applecare, then I suggest you do that before the standard one year warranty runs out. You can't buy it after that one year warranty runs out and to fix any Mac out of warranty is Very Expensive.

  • Laptop shutting down? Fan overheating?

    Hi all.
I have read many topics on this forum about the fan on any laptop not working, the laptop overheating or the laptop seemingly randomly shutting down.
I have had this problem for about three months. I tried propping up the laptop so the fan (stupidly positioned on the middle of the base of the laptop!!) could get air. It didn't shut down, but it was ridiculous having to prop my laptop up everywhere I went, and fan was also ridiculously loud.
I took my laptop to a doctor and it turns out there was a fault with the chip on the motherboard that controls the fan. This caused the fan not to work properly, causing overheating, and the laptop shutting down.
I got it fixed and my laptop is now nice and quiet and I don't have to prop it up and it doesn't shut down.
Sorry if this is bad news! Hope you can get your laptops fixed!!

  • G575 - Fan stoped working, CPU overheats and Laptop shuts down

    Hello!
I've bought a Lenovo G575 three years ago, my warranty isn't active anymore.
The fan in my laptop stopped working yesterday, and now when I do something that is CPU intensive, the Laptop shuts down because of the overheat.
Is there a way to buy a new fan?
Should I open the laptop and take a look at the fan, to see if it can be fixed without changing the fan.
    Thanks for the replies.

Yes, the listed fan will fit your model laptop.

  • Reinstall Wireless Every Time Laptop shuts down

So I have now had my Linksys wireless router up and running (sorta) for about 1 week.  Someone please tell me if this router is a piece of junk, or if all routers are so inconsistent?  Everytime my wireless laptop shuts down, I have to reload the set up again!  It's sooo frustrating.  I am afraid to update anything, or change any channels, because it took me hours upon hours to get it to work at all!  Any suggestions would help.
It's the WRT54GS router.  I'm beginning to beleive that it's a piece of junk , because I read, and read, and read about problems with it.

First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
However, your difficulty sounds like a problem with your laptop.  Download and install the latest driver for your wireless adapter.
After you setup the new driver, reboot, then go into the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Delete your current network.  Reboot computer.  Then return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  It should login automatically, usually within the first minute (may take up to 3 minutes) after you boot up.
