[SOLVED] makepkg tends to hang indefinitely when building
I'm not that new to arch. I'm currently installing arch via VB on MBP.
The makepkg command is hanging indefinitely when I'm trying to make multiple packages -- specifically cower and package-query
I get something like the following:
==> Creating package "cower"...
And then it hangs indefinitely. I've waited like 10 minutes. The same result occurred with package-query.
Is there anything I can do to debug this problem?

Sorry VB = virtual box
MBP=MacBook Pro
Just installed everything this morning
I looked at the strace call. I'm not finding much. Here is some output:

IPhoto 9.3 Hangs Indefinitely When Launched
I know a lot of other people are having this issue and few have found solutions.
It worked fine for a short period of time running 9.3, but crashed while in the application preferences. After that, it simply hangs at launch of the app. I've tried reinstalling the application, but it won't run with 9.3.
I am able to access this library via ethernet from another computer running iPhoto 9.3 and it works perfectly fine there.
I've rebuilt, repaired, reinstalled, reverted, and done just about everything that I can think of to get a fix. I expect that Apple is going to push a working 9.3.1 fix sometime within the next few days. For now, I'm without iPhoto.From what it looks like now, iPhoto 9.3.1 solves the issue with iPhoto not being able to open the library. A couple things that should be noted about my situation is that I rebuilt the library from iPhoto while it was hanging to see if it would fix the hang. It didn't fix the hanging issue in 9.3. By doing this, it likely caused the issue with keyword tags and rotation that I'm having now. Smart albums still retain what they had in them before when based on a keyword tag, so it shouldn't be too difficult to retag them. The rotation issue seems to be primarily with my iPhone and a Nikon DSLR. Hopefully this information will help you.

[solved] Laptop seems to "hang up" when trying to suspend2
I finally got a new notebook, a Thinkpad X60. Today I tried to switch from vanilla- to suspend2-kernel (the one that I had running on my old notebook as well). When trying to "hibernate", I get output on the console until "Doing atomic copy." Then the laptop seems to hang up and does nothing for ages. But when I change to another console and back, the computer turns off... I don't know why.
Starting the system again results in resuming the image - so it seems it has been correctly writen on my swap-device. But the console I come back to on resuming is unusable! I see the output made by 'hibernate' and a prompt. But I don't get an outpu if I type something. Typing blind, something as 'exit' or 'reset' doesn't work either.
What's wrong there?

[SOLVED] Makepkg option FORTIFY_SOURCE causes build fail
I have a pkg in the AUR, dcc, which fails to build with the current GCC toolchain (4.8.2.8). It does, however, build on a system with GCC 4.6.3. The problem has been identified as being caused by the FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 option in /etc/makepkg.conf.
CPPFLAGS="-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2"
I can fix the package build by unsetting CPPFLAGS in the PKGBUILD's build() function.
build() {
cd $srcdir/$pkgname-$pkgver
unset CPPFLAGS
./configure --with-installroot=${pkgdir} \
--mandir=/usr/share/man --homedir=/opt/dcc \
--bindir=/usr/bin --libexecdir=/usr/lib/dcc
make
Before I upload an amended package, I'd like to clarify whether fixing it in this way is the right thing to do.
Or, is this a problem with makepkg (I've seen a few similar mentions, like this one). Or is it the fault of something else... gcc, perhaps ?
I'd appreciate advice on how to approach this one.
(I also asked the DCC people about this via their mailing list and the response I got is below.)
The package build tool on Archlinux uses the CPP flag:
CPPFLAGS="-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2"
by default. Commenting this line out
in /etc/makepkg.conf results in a successful build using the makepkg
tool. (For the record, FORTIFY_SOURCE=1 fails as well).
From what I can tell, during configure the conflict in sa_family_t
definitions causes the test to fail when using the FORTIFY_SOURCE flag,
making configure believe that the system has no definition of
sa_family_t (or any other INET related definitions).
Last edited by starfry (2014-06-15 08:59:58)I read that one, there's a couple of suggestions there and it's where I got the idea described above from. Other solutions that could be used include
CFLAGS="$CFLAGS $CPPFLAGS"
unset CPPFLAGS
and
CPPFLAGS="$CPPFLAGS -O2"
Not sure which is best though... -
[SOLVED] Transient prob, can't resolve host when building AUR packages
I'm building xscreensaver-arch-logo from the AUR. I downloaded the PKGBUILD into an empty directory, ran
makepkg -s
, but I get this error:
==> Making package: xscreensaver-arch-logo 5.15-3 (Sat May 12 03:13:31 CDT 2012)

My internet connection is working at the moment. I can download the tarball from the AUR (this link: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26586), but if I place it in the same directory as the PKGBUILD file, I get this error when I run makepkg -s:
==> Making package: xscreensaver-arch-logo 5.15-3 (Sat May 12 03:18:59 CDT 2012)

==> Checking buildtime dependencies...

-> Found xscreensaver-5.15.tar.gz
==> ERROR: add-electricsheep.diff was not found in the build directory and is not a URL.
Any help here? I've read of the benefits of using this package over the one in the official repositories, so I'd prefer to use the AUR version if at all possible.
Last edited by pythonscript (2012-05-27 16:05:26)I believe I did download the wrong source package for xscreensaver, but if I download the package from this link: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xs/x … ogo.tar.gz and extract it, these are the files I see.
add-electricsheep.diff logo-180.png logo-50.png PKGBUILD
LICENSE logo-180.xpm logo-50.xpm xscreensaver.pam
That all appears correct. However, running makepkg -s in that directory yields the same error as the original post:

Also, I receive a highly similar error when building the dropbox package from the AUR, which hints to me that this is a wider problem than simply the xscreensaver package. When downloading the dropbox tar file (link to file: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dr/d … ox.tar.gz), extracting it and listing the directory yields this:
dropbox.desktop dropbox.png PKGBUILD terms.txt
However, the error upon running makepkg -s is similar.

Issues with Quark Xpress Hang/Freeze when focus is shifted to anything else
I've been working on this issue since the 28th of Dec.
I've been in contact with Quark. They're still examining crash log.
I thought I'd share what is on my plate in hopes others might have had, and solved similar experience.
This message will be verbose in hope of giving the uber-guru answers to questions in advance of their being asked.
First portion will contain a log of actions taken and results there of.
Second will be the typical Quark Crash log I've been getting when the application is quit.
I will mention as well that I've received a clean bill of health from TechToolPro, DiskWarrior, etceteras, as well as Passed the tests from Apple Hardware Tests.
Let me know if I can provide any additional info
Log of Actions
Installation of new Quark, up to 6.5 only.
Completed at 5:27pm
Launching Quark under New User at 5:28
Launch successful.
Created one file. Saved file, selected finder, then text editor, the quark.
Quark still operating. added text, saved, and closed document.
selected finder, then text editor, the quark.
Quark still operating.
Manually quit quark from application menu at 5:33.
Application successfully "quit" without "crashing"
Repeating the procedure above at 5:34
Launched quark via double-click of previously saved file.
added text, saved, selected finder, then text editor, the quark.
Quark still operating.
selected finder, then text editor, the quark.
Quark still operating.
quit quark from cmd-tab cmd-q method causes "unexpected crash"
Ran several similar scenarios, with this as conclusion:
Launching quark from double click of application, creation of new document, saving, and quitting in ANY fashion allows safe quit
Launching Quark, opening from save/open dialog box an existing document, then quit with or without edit, using cmd-tab cmd-q allows safe quit
Double-clicking existing document to launch Quark, then closing document after edit and save or immediately, quark Unexp. Crash occurs with Cmd-Tab Cmd-Q every time.
Double-clicking existing documents to launch Quark, then closing document after edit and save, then create new document, with save and close, quark Unexp. Crash occurs with Cmd-Tab Cmd-Q every time.
Launching of Quark 6.50 under base user
Launching Quark, opening from save/open dialog box an existing document, then quit with or without edit, using cmd-tab cmd-q allows safe quit
Double-clicking existing document to launch Quark, then closing document after edit and save or immediately, quark Unexp. Crash occurs with Cmd-Tab Cmd-Q every time.
Double-clicking existing documents to launch Quark, then closing document after edit and save, then create new document, with save and close, quark Unexp. Crash occurs with Cmd-Tab Cmd-Q every time.
Launching Quark, creating file, saving, selected finder, then text editor, the quark.
Quark hangs/freezes until force-quit
it seems there are two issues at hand.
unexpected crashes occur with cmd-tab cmd-q in either Base or New user logins when quark launch was initiated by double-click of file from finder.
and
unexplained application hangs/freezes when under base user.

Should I buy an enclosure for my HD and see if I can get it going externally? Would that be the best way to see if it is the drive and not the cable? An enclosure is cheaper than buying a new SATA cable, so I'm hoping that's where I can start.
Yes. See if the HDD will boot the MBP via a USB connection. You should probably have an external HDD for backups or a possible replacement of your boot drive.

Server hangs up when tryin to read object Urgent Help Plz
Hi,
I've been working on a client-server model for a while, I've tested my applicaction a thousand of times locally (I mean, server and serveral clients running on the same machine) and it's ok, now I finally run server in a remote host and I find it rarely works fine, most of the times server hangs up when tryin to read objects I dont know why.
this is the part of the server-code where the problem begins:
public int EscucharSocket(){
Socket cliente = null;
System.out.println("Servidor en escucha...\n");
while(true){
try{
cliente = SocketS.accept();
//I get client's ip and port
String ip = cliente.getInetAddress().getHostAddress();
int puerto = cliente.getPort();
//After the conexion is made, server reads a signature to
//identify the client
//in function process I check if the signature is valid
//SignedData is a class where I wrap the signiture (obviously
//it implements Serializable interface
process((SignedData)le.LeerObject(cliente));
//Other things done here
catch (Exception e) { }
}le is a class I use to read,write data to the socket, this is the code of the LeerObject function
public Object LeerObject(Socket c) throws Exception {
//Here Is where the server hangs up
ObjectInputStream b = new ObjectInputStream(c.getInputStream());
return b.readObject();
}As I wrote when running locally, there is no problem, but when I have a remote host, that happens
Any help or idea?Hi again, thnx for your help
I modified my LE class so I just create a couple of Input/Output Streams per client (on server n client program), this is now the complete code of the class:
import java.net.*;
import java.io.*;
public class LE {
DataOutputStream dos;
ObjectOutputStream oos;
DataInputStream dis;
ObjectInputStream ois;
//Streams are created just once in the constructor
public LE (Socket s) throws Exception {
dos = new DataOutputStream(s.getOutputStream());
//I'm not sure if this flush has any sense
dos.flush();
oos = new ObjectOutputStream (s.getOutputStream());
oos.flush();
dis = new DataInputStream(s.getInputStream());
ois = new ObjectInputStream (s.getInputStream());
public void EscribirByte(byte datos[],int len) throws Exception {
dos.write(datos,0,len);
dos.flush();
public void EscribirString(String dato) throws Exception {
dos.writeUTF(dato);
dos.flush();
public void EscribirChar(char dato) throws Exception {
dos.writeChar(dato);
dos.flush();
public void EscribirInt(int dato) throws Exception {
dos.writeInt(dato);
dos.flush();
public void EscribirLong(long dato) throws Exception {
dos.writeLong(dato);
dos.flush();
public void EscribirObject(Object dato) throws Exception {
oos.writeObject(dato);
oos.flush();
public String LeerString() throws Exception {
return dis.readUTF();
public int LeerInt() throws Exception {
return dis.readInt();
public char LeerChar() throws Exception {
return dis.readChar();
public long LeerLong() throws Exception {
return dis.readLong();
public Object LeerObject() throws Exception {
return ois.readObject();
}part of code of server and client, where the conexion is made and the LE object is created
Server:
try{
cliente = SocketS.accept();
//After accepting the conexion the LE object is created
le = new LE(cliente);
//I get client's ip and port
String ip = cliente.getInetAddress().getHostAddress();
int puerto = cliente.getPort();
//Object wraping signature is read
process((SignedData)le.LeerObject());
//other control operations doing here
//A thread is created to receive requests from client
//(reference to LE object is passed to the thread
ConexionCliente c = new ConexionCliente (cliente,id_persona,id_grupo,tipo_usuario,backup,le);
//thread is started
c.start();
catch (Exception e) {
try {
cliente.close();
catch(Exception e2){}
}Cliente code:
try{
//it connects to the server
c=new Socket(host,puerto);
//After accepting the conexion the LE object is created
le = new LE(c);
//other things made here to genarate SignedData Object
//It sends signed data object
le.EscribirObject(Data);
//A thread is created and started to receive messages from server
//reference to object LE is sent to the thread to avoid the need of
//creating another
new ConexionServidorClient(c,id_persona,ci,le).start();
return 1;
catch(Exception e) {
return -1;
}after the change, itworks a little better, but still most of the times server hangs up, I can't make server operational yet and I dont have any idea for solving this issue -
I have seen numerous posts about this problem when building an application without a block diagram in LV 7.x, however, I am recieving this error on LV 8.2. Whats most disturbing about it, is that it always hangs when processing Clear Errors.vi. I have tried my source on two different machines, to no avail. Also I tried to do a mass recompile of the entire vi.lib again no help. It is very important that this program compiles, however I cannot get past this error. Any suggestions?
My specific error message is here:

-PaulHello Paul,
I am sorry for not elaborating previously. This issue has been documented previously for further investigation to our R&D group (# 3ZK9LGP2). In the report I found that this error, though vague in the description, is fixed by enabling MathScript Support.
To enable MathScript support, check the checkbox in the application properties for the 'Enable MathScript support' option.

Error when building a report from 2 different subject areas
Hello Experts,
I am using obiee 11.1.1.5.
I have 5 dimension D1,D2,D3,D4,D5 connected to fact1 and 4 dimension connected to fact2 such as D1,D2,D6,D7.
where D1,D2 is common to both the facts.
Fact1 Is in subject area 1 and Fact2 is in subject area2.
I need to create a report by adding columns of subject area 1 and 2 with columns from all the dimensions D1,D2....D7.
As of now i am getting error stating "No fact table exists at the requested level of detail " when i try to add columns from 2 different subject areas.
Can anyone help me in solving the above problem.
Is there any prerequisite to be taken care when building a report from 2 different subject areas.
Regards,
NNHello Nagireddy,
So kind of you, for your quick reply
I was able to solve the error by doing below steps in additional what you have specified
-->For the fact table LTSs, set the logical level in the Content tab to the dimension's lowest level for each conforming dimension (leave the non-conforming dimensions level blank).
Now I have another requirement i,e
I need to have non measure columns such as Date into the newly created fact in BMM layer.
I tried doing the steps which I followed for measure column, but it is throwing the same error which I get earlier.
Below is the error
Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: [nQSError: 14025] No fact table exists at the requested level of detail:

Have a hang-up when playing music through USB
Hello, everyone! I've got a hi-fi server( Linux Voyagempd) and I stream music files from My Cloud to it. I'm using USB flash drive 3.0 because the music sounds much better than from internal NAS's hdd. The issue is in hang-ups when streaming through NAS's usb port from flash drive. It can occur without any warning at any time. Sometimes I can listen to an all album, but sometimes there's dropping after two songs. If anybody knows any solution to this trouble, please, give me a hint how to solve it. Thanks a lot in advance!
Hi gleer, welcome to the WD Community. Have you tried using other USB drives to verify if the same problem happens?

Encore CS6 hangs at slideshow build component of Blu-Ray disc/folder build
Encore stops responding at slideshow build during overall Blu Ray disc or folder build. Project consists of 96 min video timeline via PrPro dynamic link and Japanese & English subtitle tracks, main menu plus 4 sub-menus (2 chapter menus, subtitles and slideshow). 2 menus are motion w/audio.
Slideshow consists of 147 jpegs. After 2nd build failure I reduced all images to uniform 1080 height. No transitions, no manual advance, no pan & zoom. Slideshow fit to audio duration of 2 mp3 assets totaling aprx 7 mins and individual slide durationof 2 secs. Aspect set to 16:9. Encoded size of slideshow 58.42 MB.
Running Win7 SP1 home on i7-3610QM x8 for total 16GB mem w/NVIDIA Quadro 3000M gfx. No prior problems with this configuration for several Blu-Ray and DVD projects. This is first time out with a slideshow component. This particular project built successfully for workcopy Blu-Ray disc, with video timeline and subtitles, but no menus or slideshow.
Help!
ElliottThanks Stan,
I am not sure what you mean by your question if I resaved all files. When I resized the images I used Adobe Bridge's Photoshop image processor to bulk re-size the images, saving to a different folder than the originals. I kept the original file names (hmmm, now that I think about it, that may not have been the best choice), then replaced each image asset in Encore's project window, pointing to the file with the same name, but different folder (the preview image in the project window confirmed the reduced image sizes).
But anyway, rather than pulling my hair out risking another hang during the build, I simply made an m2v video files of the jpegs in PrPro (which allowed me to sync some cuts to the music) and placed it in a timeline. No stills now, just an additional timeline.
I'm writing this as the bluray disc build is chugging away. But here's another Encore anomoly, if you have an answer-- before I decided to build the slideshow in PrPro, I tried to save the Encore project with a different filename so I could try your suggestions without corrupting the working project. The save failed twice, well into long process of copying files, returning the error code, "Access Denied". Any thoughts?

"Loading Public Synonyms" in SYS schema hangs indefinitely
When I try to expand "Public Synonyms" in SYS schema tree, the "Loading Public Synonyms" message window appears and hangs indefinitely without giving any result.
Trying the same in Reports/All Objects/Public Synonyms I get the result within a second.
What's wrong?
I'm running SQL Developer 1.1.2.25.79, Oracle Database 10g R2 (10.2.0.3) on 32-bit RHEL-4.4 AS using Sun jdk1.6.0_01.
N.J.If you do a select count(*) from dba_synonyms where owner='PUBLIC' you'll get a figure around 20,000 (I get 19697 from a 10.2.0.1 database out of a total of 23992). So, it'll not only take a while to return all the public synonyms but it'll also take a while to sort the output.
However, I've created a test report with the following SQL and it works quickly
select *
from dba_synonyms
where owner='PUBLIC'
I guess it's a bug in SQL Developer - perhaps one of the development team could confirm? -
Icon path restricted error when building release version for ipad3
Hi,
i get the following error when building the release build ipa file for ipad 3: "The path icon.png is restricted. If you were trying to package Icon.png you should correct the case." In debug mode everything works. My icon is under assets folder and added in the app-xml with:
<icon>
<image72x72>assets/icon_72.png</image72x72>
</icon>
Did I missed something in configuration? Seems to be that the problem is known but cant find a solution for it. If i try to packegae per command line despite the fact building works I could not install the app. When I change the icon tag to use no icon everything works fine. Any ideas?
Greetz and thanks in advance!I solved it. When you export the release build you can choose package contents to be compiled in the ipa. When I tried to add an icon at first I named it icon.png, which seems to be a reserved name. The configuration to include this icon.png was still saved though i deleted it. Wired... After unchecking the ceckbox for icon.png not to be compiled in the ipa, the release build was build.

Language Problem when building executable
I'm having a weird issue when building executables. Labview seems to forget the english language. I have tried selecting English exclusively as the run time language but when i do that i get a "No supported languages installed!" error. Everthing works fine in the development environment. It only seems to apply to application menus and not custom user menus. Thanks for any insight.
Solved!

Language.png 3 KBHello Jed394,
I took a look into the issue, just to be sure the error thrown was “No support Language Installed,” correct? Check to see if the language of your operating system and the language LabVIEW is using is English. If these are both English, then it looks like this is an error due to installation issues in the run-time engine. Try to perform a repair by going through the install menu of LabVIEW. The following link will help you with the repair: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/FE6B641E86E55AF2862576DE00038001?OpenDocument
If you have any further issues, please let me know. Thanks!

Carolyn,
I searched my whole system and couldn't find
com.apple.systemuiser.plist
So that is a mystery. However the part about:
Go back to System Preferences > Network
Make sure the box is selected next to: Show Wi-Fi status i menu bar. Solved the problem. Somehow the box had been unchecked. Gremlins I guess!
Thanks so much for your help.
