[SOLVED] Missing xorg packages
Hi guys,
I am following the Beginner's guide on the wiki, and stuck at the "Install X" point, because apparently, a couple of packages are missing in the repo. I have tried several mirrors, that are according to the mirror list 100% up to date, but same result.
Install command (as in the guide):
pacman -S xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-utils xorg-server-utils
Result (this is a second attempt, the first attempt downloaded all the other packages just fine):
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20678367/arch-m … ckages.png
Mod edit: The image you posted is too big, see our Forum Etiquette.
Apparently the missing packages are:
xkeyboard-config-2.2.1-1-any
xorg-server-common-1.10.4-1-i686
xf86-input-evdev-2.6.0-3-i686
xorg-server-1.10.4-1-i686
xorg-xinit-1.3.0-3-i686
What's the deal here?

Well, pacman -Syu worked. I must be _really_ unlucky, I just did a -Syu last night, I think I'll have to add the "y" to every install from now on just in case
Thanks!
yes, xorg-server 1.11 was moved last night

[Solved] Missing icons in GTK apps?
I'm missing some icons in GTK2 apps. Fbpanel doesn't have any task icons, and Gaim doesn't have buddy icons. There might be more, but those are the ones I've noticed so far....
I just reinstalled Arch using the pacman -r method, so I think I missed some packages.... :oops:
Also, although it doesn't belong here, what package provides the "killall" command? I need that one too...Fixed it. Pacman -S gdk-pixbuf and all was well. I figured it out after looking at the X log and realizing I was getting pixbuf errors. Doh!

1) goto BD87 Tcode... take ur Idoc number and check the status of the idoc if it is 64 .. just process it manually ....
2) go to the TRFC in Datawarehouse and execute the LUWs manually ..

[SOLVED] Missing tiling option in KDE
Hello to everyone!
I installed arch on my new Dell Precision M4800 along with KDE desktop (kdebase package).
Installation went very well and i get working KDE desktop.
But if found that under System Settings > Window Behavior > Advanced there is no option for Window Tiling.
Am i missing any package ?
How do i get tiling option there ?
Also sometimes KDE doesn't open any application even System Settings window.
Regardless of multiple click no any window appear on screen. I happened two times till now.
I have to restart to get it working again.
Does it also happen with any of you?

Also, replace that massive image with a thumbnail link plz -- some of us have metered connections...
I downloaded that script it started tiling windows, but still there is no option for tiling in System Settings > Window Behavior > Advanced
My another laptop with Debian Wheezy and KDE 4.8 has that option. There i can enable/disable tiling, set tiling mode to Columns, Spiral etc.
I want to bring back same tiling option as i have on another laptop.
It is KDE 4.14.3. I am sure tiling option is natively supported in KDE 4.8 and up, but just not showing option there.
I guess i am missing any package, but do not know which one.
And i replaced that image with thumbnail. I will remember it for future. -

Okay... I did what our friend johnr suggested and after some research and a little headache, I managed to get my Arch Linux working again by downgrading just 3 packages. Here are the few steps I did:
First of, install this little package called 'downgrade' to help you downgrade the packages.
1. Okay, first we need to remove these 3 packages which requires Xorg >1.16:
# pacman -Rs xf86-input-evdev xf86-video-vmware xorg-server
2. Now we have to downgrade xf86-input-evdev to the exact version 2.9.0-1. Search for it in the list, type its corresponding number and press enter. Example:
$ downgrade xf86-input-evdev
2) xf86-input-evdev-2.9.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz (remote)
select a package by number: 2
:: Proceed with installation? [Y/n] y
add xf86-input-evdev to IgnorePkg [y/n] y
3. Downgrade xorg-server to the exact version 1.15.2-1. We have to do the same as the previous step:
$ downgrade xorg-server
4) xorg-server-1.15.2-1-x86_x64.pkg.tar.xz (remote)
select a package by number: 4
:: Proceed with installation? [Y/n] y
add xorg-server to IgnorePkg [y/n] y
4. Last but not least, we have to downgrade xf86-video-vmware to the exact version 13.0.2-1:
$ downgrade xf86-video-vmware
3) xf86-video-vmware-13.0.2-1-x86_x64.pkg.tar.xz (remote)
select a package by number: 3
:: Proceed with installation? [Y/n] y
add xf86-video-vmware to IgnorePkg [y/n] y
And that's pretty much it... I hope it helps!
P.S.: As we added those 3 packages to 'IgnorePkg', pacman won't upgrade them unless you remove them from pacman's config file: /etc/pacman.conf.
Created an account just to say that this resolved my issue as well. Thank you so much for such a great, detailed solution! -
Missing SFW Packages on 6/06 Companion DVD
Hi,
I'm missing 21 packages on the 6/06 companion DVD which used to be there in the 1/06 release:
SFWblue
SFWcdrtl
SFWespgs
SFWffltr
SFWfppd
SFWgbin
SFWgcc2
SFWgcc2l
SFWgcc34l
SFWgfile
SFWgimp
SFWgkrel
SFWgm4
SFWgprnt
SFWgtext
SFWhpijs
SFWmpg12
SFWpy
SFWrpm
SFWsampc
SFWshutl
Instead, there seems to be a new package called SFWcoreu, which unsurprisingly does not contain the software of the missing packages. ;-)
Does anyone know what has happened here?
I think gcc, rpm and such things still aren't depricated at all. ;-)))
Ciao and TIA,
FrankOops. :-)
You're right, at least some of these packages have been converted from SFW to SUNW packages...
...unfortunately, other SFW packages still have dependencies on the old packages.
For example SFWaconf depends on SFWgm4, which is now SUNWm4.
So it seems, SUN has got some homework left to do here. :-((
Thanks,
Frank -
[Solved] Minimal Xorg for working system
Hello,
Maybe somebody could help me to install minimal xorg packages, since it install lots of them (drivers for nvidia, ati ... I have intel, xcalc xterm and other but I do not need them).
I want to have really minimal Arch+E17 based OS, all is working (no mouse scroll on touchpad, but that is minimal problem, althought ~~~xorg-input-synaptic is installed and other inputs)
I have already mentioned that I have intel GPU and intel CPU (dual core), do not know what other stuff is required.
Extra:
I am using .xinitrc and slim for logging in to E17 windows manager. Slim is launched through daemons.
Searching forum was no luck, there were few responds to similar problem, but they did not had real answer
Last edited by vaidotas203 (2012-04-14 13:22:24)Gusar wrote:I'm not talking to you as if you're an idiot. But I really didn't see the sense of listing packages that won't get installed anyway unless you specifically install them. That's the "unnecessary complicating" I mentioned earlier.
Again, this entirely depends on the OP's definition of minimal.
If he considers minimal getting rid of bloat and unnecessary stuff in Xorg - than almost certainly, he will have to recompile it. Which would mean everything i have said is * *necessarily complicated* and what i have listed above actually makes more sense than what you are saying, because compiling xorg-server in ABS *will* compile all of those other packages (like xdmx, etc ~ why even waste time compiling if you don't plan to install them, anyway?). Not only that, but all of the stuff he may not need (aside from the 'separate' packages) will be compiled in (like kdrive/ipv6/etc) and increase bloat.
So i was recommending how to strip xorg-server a little. that is all.
But you are correct, if he is just looking to remove a package or two, obviously what you say makes sense. - but is that really a 'minimal xorg' ~ i don't think so.
cheerz
EDIT: you edited you post;
Gusar wrote:Neither will you see it for any other package, despite many of them having ipv6 support. If you go that far into minimalism, then pretty much all stock Arch packages are unsuitable.
I don't consider changing a few compile options, and using some flags as 'going to far into minimalism'.
Gusar wrote:Nor will one have it installed if going with just the four packages I listed. If you check the PKBUILD, only xephyr uses kdrive stuff. And xephyr is a separate package.
Well, quite frankly - if you are going to compile xorg-server from ABS, and don't plan on using those features -> it makes sense to disable-kdrive and xephyr, as you are just wasting your time compiling them, if you don't plan to install/use them anyway.
but anyway, this doesn't really matter, as we don't know what the OP means by 'minimal'.

Good time of day everybody. I need some help with catalyst. I can't install catalyst because i can't get required xorg packages.
The main problem is (how i think) xorg-server. Needed xorg-server version is < 1.7.0 especial with fedora's no backfill patch.
I can't compile it under the 31-32 kernels, because dependences are not correct & compilation always ends with errors, i don't know all packages & versions of them required to fix dependences & compile xorg-server. Already compiled xorg-server is only for 30 version of kernel...
So can any1 give me those files already precompiled 4 31-32 kernels. or it will be better if link or even repository. Oh btw i ask 4 31-32 kernel because i'm going to install arch on laptop & i don't know about drivers for some devices under 32 version of kernel (they may work not correctly) .
I need x86_64 xorg-packages with which can work catalyst driver.
Thank you for help!ATI mobility radeon hd 3650...
I've read most of all posts in that topic, but it didn't help me. All i need i listed above

When I comment these lines in the XML file out, it works perfectly ... but without the proper icons!
Can anyone tell me what I'm leaving out?

That XML file is inside the package "core" along with the folder "iOS_icons", so the file path would be "iOS_icons/icon-???.png". Instead the file path is relative to the XML descriptor file that FB4.7 creates for packaging. This ends up-one in the file path, outside the "core" package. So the correct file path turned out to be "core/iOS_icons/icon-???.png". This is what it should be in my XML descriptor:

Edited by: Gaurav_Tiku_anni_jain on May 22, 2009 12:09 PMEvery package whatever created by user should be part of some package. So, while creation of package, you have to select the super package name from the input list available while creating package.
If the Software component is choosen as 'LOCAL' while creation of package, then you have to select $TMP as super package. For any other type of software component we need to select super package (Either BASIS or your own package if you are creating sup-package).

Siva.

[SOLVED] Missing package () function for PyTyle2
Hi, I was trying to install this tarball from the AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=42541
But it prompts the following error:
==> ERROR: Missing package() function in /home/kolt/AUR/pytyle2-hg/PKGBUILD
I've read the PKGBUILD and have no idea why this is happening. I already installed the dependencies needed.
Any clue?

Read the pacman output, it refers to the package() function and makepkg doesn't find it in the PKGBUILD as said. Ask the maintainer to update or orphan it, if he doesn't respond file an AUR request. -
[SOLVED]"Missing url variable" when uploading package

[SOLVED] missing package [python-appindicator]
First of all I must thank you guys for the amazing distribution and your hard work.
I have tried to run https://gist.github.com/blazeeboy/6201049 but it gave me the following error
ImportError: No module named appindicator
and then I started searching for python-appindicator package .. for a week I couldn't find something works.
that's it

Thank you Scimmia .. It's really simple, this works -
[SOLVED] VirtualBox Additions Package Missing?
Hi all,
Following the VirtualBox section of the wiki here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vi … nux_guests - it directs me to install the following packages:
pacman -S virtualbox-guest-additions
However, I just get a message saying the package isn't found (I can't find it under "packages" on the arch website either), some googling suggested:
pacman -S virtualbox-archlinux-additions
However, that package is also 'not found'. As far as I know, I have the following repositories enabled:
* Testing
* Core
* Extra
* Community
* Community-Testing
* Testing
The wiki says not to install the default VirtualBox additions from VirtualBox. Any suggestions on where to find the VirtualBox additions package?
Regards,
Ben.

Wow, that's a long way to figure out 'virtual' packages, when this works just fine:
$ pacman -Ss virtual
You're wrong, graysky was close, but I prefer to use it with the '-q' switch. Compare the output of
pacman -Ssq | grep virtual
with one from your suggestion. -
