[SOLVED] mpd - no sound after Pulseaudio update

After update of Pulseaudio (1.04) I mpd doesn't work - there's no problem with other applications, only with mpd. I can't set volume and mpc says that there are problems with opening audio device:
eregus@arch ~ $ mpc
Black River - Street Games
[paused] #769/775 0:00/3:45 (0%)
volume: n/a repeat: off random: off single: off consume: off
ERROR: problems opening audio device
There's my /etc/mpd.conf:
music_directory "/mnt/sda3/music"
playlist_directory "/var/lib/mpd/playlists"
db_file "/var/lib/mpd/mpd.db"
log_file "syslog"
pid_file "/run/mpd/mpd.pid"
state_file "/var/lib/mpd/mpdstate"
user "mpd"
auto_update "yes"

I use ALSA + Pulseaudio. My /etc/pulse/default.pa:

Yes, I use X.
And yes, I know what's the problem with Pulseaudio - the tip in Arch Wiki didn't help.
Edit: Oh, I only tried that workaround, I didn't try to change user. I'll edit mpd.conf when I come back home.
according to your config, you used that workaround wrongly. it will only work, if you point to the pulse server IP in mpd.conf. So add the server line in your pulse output. (its most likely 127.0.0.1)

  • [solved] Typing error sound - after last update

    Hey guys, after last update every time i make some mistake while typing on console (rxvt) or at the file search on gnome, this weird sound comes out from pc speaker (some eletric bizzz). I can't find anything related to this, does anyone knows if that is some kind of configuration of Xorg or it's a bug?
    Thanks for any help!

    Hello Gvescovi!
    What does it mean for misstyping? The speaker gives sound in such a cases.
    You can disable it:

    i am having problem with my sound, after i updated to ios 6, i can hear music with headphone only, apple please help

    Try going into your settings and 'reset all settings'
    You will need to retweak your device but it's been said to help with sound issues.

  • "Dirty" sound after Kernel update. [SOLVED]

    First of all my sound have always been "dirty" on Linux, like if the speakers/headphones where broken. However, earlier today I configured my sound for the first time on Arch and had a terrific sound! Perfect and clear. However, after I updated, my sound configuration was messed up and now, after re-configuring it, it has this "broken" sound again. Anything I can do about it?
    /Richard

    So I won't have to re-configure the sound again if I get kernel -8? Like 5 minutes after I got kernel -7 I saw there was a new update but with my recent problem with kernel -7 kept me from updating. My sound works almost perfectly it's just that there's this tiny buzzing sound in the background all the time.

  • Lost Sound After an update

    i have lost the sound , except with headphones, after new automatic update from HP.
    My model is HP Pavilion dv7 notebook PC
    Windows 7 Home premium
    The message error is ''Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file.''

    Hi,
    Please use the following tips to fix:
      http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7/windows-media-player-encountered-a-proble...
    Have you rebooted the machine after the update ? Reboot it may solve the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have no sound after HP update. please help

    I have no sound, it states " no audio output device is installed"

    Renia,
    Apparently the issue is not on the list of issues that test program can detect.  Sometimes it works -- this time it could not see the problem.
    Try this:
    Perform the Hard Reset .  Boot the computer and log in
    The procedure will not wipe out your data -- this is just a driver refresh to force the computer to read the drivers and software from the Operating System that is installed on your computer.
    That may do it.
    ===========================================================================================
    You said the problem arose after an Update.  You can try "going back in time" to when the sound worked:
    Restoring Windows to a Previous Point (Windows 7
    Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
    System Restore sometimes works better if you first drop the system into Safe Mode:
    HP PCs - Windows 8 Safe Mode
    ===========================================================================================
    You may have to resort to uninstalling and then reinstalling the audio driver.
    Control Panel > set icon view >  Open your Audio > right click on your audio driver > select Uninstall
    Restart the computer and log in.  As you do so, the driver will reinstall itself.
    More tips are outlined and explained in the guides provided earlier.
    Kind Regards,

  • [SOLVED] RT2870 drops connection after pacman update

    Since last pacman upgrade my USB wireless works for just a few seconds while used; while watching transfer speed I see at first full speed and then going slower and slower and in a few secs totally stopped, without being disconnected. certainly didn't expect this... turned off power saving
    iwconfig wlan0 power off
    and all is well again. Surely doesn't explain why it started after kernel update. But it works...

  • [SOLVED] GNOME crashes (probably after full update)

    Hi all,
    Today I did a full update with "pacman -Syu" and thus, some new packages were updated. However, after the update and reboot (by myself, not requested by the system as I saw that the kernel is updated - to 2.6.32.19 - as well) then GNOME crashes everytime I do "startx" (I don't use any login manager like GDM or SLiM), neither "xinit" nor "xinit /usr/bin/gnome-session" works too.
    The problem is that I still see the mouse cursor and sometimes, the wallpaper as well, then GNOME crashed and I was returned to the command line with lots of messages about gnome-panel disconnected from the bus, several messages about gnome-session and /usr/lib/libdevkit, /usr/lib/libdbus, gnome-screensaver etc.
    Sorry for didn't provide enough details, but the laptop with Arch64 on it isn't here with me at the moment so I just recall and describe the errors here.
    Please give me your advice about this case
    Thank you
    EDIT: Fyi, I checked the wiki about GNOME here, but I couldn't find any "session" in ~/.gnome2/ in order to "mv ~/.gnome2/session ~/.gnome2/session.old" to refresh the session.
    I also did "for d in .gnome* .gconf*; do mv "$d" "$d.old"; done" already, but problem still persists

    Thanks wonder, another "pacman -Syu" showed that it updated dbus to 1.2.24 and after a reboot, GNOME is up and running again
    Cheers

  • [Solved] XBMC no Sound after update

    Hi Everyone, I setup XBMC on my Arch install. I wanted to make XBMC standalone so I did:
    systemctl enable xbmc
    Everything was fine for a while , except that it didn't always boot straight into XBMC but ..one problem at a time.
    Fast-forward, I updated recently (pacman -Syy then pacman -Syu)
    I boot in...
    No sound...
    I checked my groups and the XBMC user is in the Audio group...I can get my sound to work if I login to a XFCE session and then launch XBMC.
    When I boot straight into XBMC.. No sound.
    The audio output options are different as well...
    This is driving me crazy, can someone help Please.
    Cheers,
    Last edited by steady_drop (2014-03-24 13:43:34)

    Are you sure your user needs to be in the audio group? I think systemd doesn't like that.
    Post what packages did you update.
    What do you mean by 'no sound'? More details please.
    Edit: I see that xbmc service file got changed https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … 13e315dea8 but I don't know if it matters.

  • [SOLVED] Audio not working after system update

    Hi all,
    About 4 days ago, I installed Arch Linux (full systemd) with LXDE on a Dell Inspiron Mini netbook. Everything seemed to be OK until today, when I did pacman -Syu and then installed the SLiM login manager. After rebooting there was no audio. I am not sure if this happened because of the upgrade or because of SLiM. I am pretty new to systemd, so I could be missing something very obvious. I have tried many things so far, with no success:
    1) I disabled SLiM and instead started X from the terminal at boot, and nothing happened.
    2) I have removed my username from the 'audio' group, added it again, removed it, etc... No change.
    3) I downgraded systemd, systemd-sysvcompat, and xine-lib (just in case) to their previous version and nothing happened.
    4) I seem to be detecting the sound card correctly. If I run "aplay -l" as my normal, non-root user I get the same output as the root user:
    **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
    card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC272 Analog [ALC272 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    5) If I login with SLiM, my session seems to be setup correctly, as far as I can tell:
    $ loginctl show-session $XDG_SESSION_ID
    Id=1
    Timestamp=Mon, 2012-10-29 00:38:35 EDT

    Active=yes
    State=active
    KillProcesses=no
    IdleHint=no
    IdleSinceHint=0
    IdleSinceHintMonotonic=0
    Name=vrg
    6) I reinstalled pulseaudio, pulseaudio-alsa, alsa-plugins, and alsa-oss... Nothing.
    7) I do not have the ~/.asoundrc file.

    Thanks Rasi. Incidentally, I just solved the issue a few minutes ago and was about to post the answer, but yes, you are right... the device was muted. It's embarrassing, but it did not seem obvious to me that the device was muted... All the sliders seemed OK, with nice, green values between 50 and 100. Also, the LXDE volume control was unmuted with a value between 50% and 100%, and I ran the 'amixer sset Master unmute' command several times. Clearly, this command does not do the job.
    What I was missing is nicely described in the PulseAudio troubleshooting:
    If one experiences no audio output via any means while using ALSA, attempt to unmute the sound card. To do this, launch alsamixer and make sure each column has a green 00 under it (this can be toggled by pressing 'm')
    I was not pressing 'm'... I know it's on the wiki, but this did not seem to be a PulseAudio issue, which was working perfectly yesterday and was not upgraded, so the PulseAudio troubleshooting was not the first place I looked for solutions. I wonder why the device got muted in the first place.
    Thanks again for the help!

  • No sound after (kernel)update 64bit

    Hey I just rebooted my PC the first time after the new kernel update.
    Now sound is not working anymore at all... But the soundcard (Audigy 2 ZS) is still recognized (e.g. via alsamixer), and kmix does not give any error message. Everything seems to work fine, except the fact that there is no sound. Of course I already checked if I muted anything by mistake. Sound is working on Vista (dualboot), so the hardware is alright.
    Any hint what could be the problem?
    PS: I stressed the kernel update in the first line, because I strongly suspect it for being the cause of the problem. The other updates were not that important (samba...).
    But I would like to hear other opinions.
    Greetings, yodo
    Edit: Ok, I manually compiled and installed an older kernel (kernel26-2.6.27.8-1) and sound is working again. It was definitly the kernel's fault! The version(s) I had (have) problems with were kernel26-2.6.27.10-1 and also kernel26-2.6.27.9-1 which I tried before kernel26-2.6.27.8-1.
    Any other users with the same problem?

    Thanks! But actually rebuilding the kernel did not fix anything (for me) - at least not rebuilding kernel26-2.6.27.10-1 or kernel26-2.6.27.9-1. Sound only works after a downgrade to kernel26-2.6.27.8-1 (or below I suppose).

  • [SOLVED] Compiz crashes Gnome after pacman update

    Hardware: Nvidia NVS 3100M, latest drivers 260.19.36
    Software: latest pacman -Suy
    On startup, right after the login, X (or Gnome?) crashes and I see the login screen again.
    After I disable compiz, I am able to use Gnome desktop.
    When I start compiz via fusion-icon, it crashes everything again.
    Has anyone seen this?
    Any clues?
    ==== Update =====
    I solved this by re-installing the same nvidia driver I had. During install it detected that the original installation "has been altered".

    That's a scary thought: what if I'm the only one with this problem... :-)
    Let me answer your questions guys (and thank you for replying).
    First of all, I don't have anything monitor-related in my xorg.conf.d directory. Here is what I have there:
    t510 ~: ll /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
    total 20K
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1.1K Aug 24 06:45 10-evdev.conf
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 377 Jun 21 2010 10-quirks.conf
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 443 Nov 13 10:36 10-synaptics.conf
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 267 Nov 19 03:48 10-synaptics.conf.pacnew
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 107 Sep 2 19:39 20-nouveau.conf
    Second, I do pacman updates maybe once a month. So I had 600+ MB of downloads and something like a hundred packages, including xorg itself. However, I do know that the kernel and nvidia's proprietary driver are both latest and haven't changed.
    If I delete xorg.conf, arch will try to look for noveau open-source driver and will fail because I do not have it installed: it doesn't manage power well to be used on a laptop.
    Looking into Xorg.log I see this:
    [ 102.032] (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the GLX module; please check in your X
    [ 102.032] (EE) NVIDIA(0): log file that the GLX module has been loaded in your X
    [ 102.032] (EE) NVIDIA(0): server, and that the module is the NVIDIA GLX module. If
    [ 102.032] (EE) NVIDIA(0): you continue to encounter problems, Please try
    [ 102.032] (EE) NVIDIA(0): reinstalling the NVIDIA driver.
    [ 102.582] (II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU NVS 3100M (GT218) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)
    I will try to reinstall the same nvidia driver I have to see what happens.
