[SOLVED]mplayer and mplayer-plugin

I have been trying to install mplayer and mplayer-plugin for several days from several mirrors in the USA. this is the error message I keep receiving:
error: failed retrieving file 'smbclient-3.2.5-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz' from mirror.cs.vt.edu : File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
error: failed retrieving file 'mplayer-1.0rc2-8-i686.pkg.tar.gz' from mirror.cs.vt.edu : File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
warning: failed to retrieve some files from extra
error: failed to commit transaction (unexpected error)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
Anyone else having this issue?
THANKS!!!

Update your pacman database (pacman -Sy) or really force it to update (pacman -Syy).  The packages you are trying to download are not the latest versions

  • [solved] Mplayer-plugin downloads files

    Whenever I play an avi with mplayer-plugin, it gets downloaded to my homedir. There's nothing wrong with playback, everything still works, but I wonder why the file is in my homedir. :S I also have to remove the file manually.
    Could it have something to do with caching?
    I'm also having problems with some streams. They say 'buffering' and then it just stops. When I look into my homedir, sure enough there's a file named playlist (because it's a stream) but it doesn't play.

    That worked. Thanks.

  • [SOLVED]mplayer-plugin not in repos?

    Hi,
       Does anyone know, what happened to the mplayer-plugin package. It used to be in /extra... Are there problems with stability?
    Thanks.

  • Watching CNN and Yahoo videos with mplayer-plugin [SOLVED]

    I had a hell of a time trying to view CNN videos (http://www.cnn.com) and Yahoo videos with mplayer-plugin (firefox) and didn't seem to find any solutions in a forum search.
    The following worked for me:
    To get it working at all, I had to edit /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf and add/edit the following options:
    noembed=1
    To get smooth video and sound without choppy playback, I had to add/edit the following options to /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf:
    cachesize = 1024
    These value for cachesize will obviously vary depending on your internet connection.  But, with my DSL/broadband connection, the default cachesize of 512 was for some reason resulting in *very* choppy playback.  The cachsize of 1024 fixed everything.
    I can now view CNN and Yahoo videos with no problem.
    Just thought I'd share if anyone is having similar problems.

    Thanks

  • How to use mplayer-plugin?

    How do you use mplayer-plugin in Firefox?
    I always just have empty mplayer window or area, when I click "play" I just see "stopped".
    I have exactly same effect on two different computers with Arch.
    Do I need some special configuration for mplayer-plugin?
    What is so special in this plugin that it can't work just by default?

    It should just work after installing Mplayer and the plugin. If you launch Firefox from a terminal, are you seeing any errors?

  • Apple's trailer site crashes Firefox w/ mplayer plugin

    Okay, this is beyond weird. Basically, I can go and watch a video in high quality or otherwise pretty much anywhere that isn't Apple's website... If I go there, Firefox just crashes without an error or explanation. This is pretty unfortunate since I view the bulk of my streaming video from there. I know some people had this issue before, but it effected all videos with them... This is just effecting this one site with me.
    Running Firefox from the terminal is completely unhelpful as it provides no useful info.
    I've got the latest versions of Firefox and mplayer plugin and am running KDEmod 4.2 with the qt-gtk-engine thing.
    Anyone have a solution to this annoying little issue?
    Thanks!

    I have the same problem...

  • Mplayer-plugin - anyone can use it?

    Could you tell me how to use mplayer-plugin?
    Or could you point me to any documentation?
    This is example site with movies:
    http://www.galaxydynamics.org/cosmic_cruise.html
    When I click on avi this plugin just blocks firefox.

    The keyboard controls aren't working for me while the video is embedded. If you use the 'noembed=1' option in ~/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf, the video will launch in it's own window and the regular Mplayer controls will work.
    As far as the cache goes, it looks like it starts over when the video is stopped then restarted. I'm not sure if this is editable or not.
    What do you mean when you say it looks poopy?

  • Getting mplayer-plugin to work with opera 9

    according to
    http://my.opera.com/community/forums/to … ?id=131761

  • Mplayer-plugin config file errors?

    i see in the /etc/mplayer-plugin.conf file entries like this:
    # Enable Real Media Support *
    #enable-real=[0|1]
    enable=1
    # Enable Windows Media Support *
    #enable-wm=[0|1]
    enable=1
    maybe that's correct for some reason, but it seemed to me it should say enable-rm=1, enable-wm=1, etc. :?:
    as a background/side note: i was trying to stop mplayer-plugin from taking over shoutcast pls streams from xmms, without success. for the moment i've just moved the mplayer-plugin.so file from the mozilla plugins directory, and so far that's working. removing the mime type from the ~/.mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat file didn't work, it just got replaced everytime i relaunched the browser, of course. i'm not sure what consquences removing the .so file will have -- so far everything else seems to work -- but if anyone knows a real fix, i'd appreciate it.
    ***oops, i just noticed, wrong forum. could the mods move it? thx

    no, stupid windoze-mentality kindergarten firefox doesn't allow adding of new mime types or helpers. you can only remove or change existing ones.

    Sometimes, plugin is started without crash, but resolution of video stream is very low, because plugin  use very low bitrate (about 5Kbytes/s), although bandwith of my ADSL connection is 2Mbit/s
    FireFox-2.0.0.3 (2.0.0.4 crashed every time with the same error)
    mplayer-plugin 3.40

    ArchLinux 0.9 Duke
    Thanks for any suggestions

    berbae, thank you for answer.
    I upgrade xulrunner to 1.8.1.4-1, firefox to 2.0.0.4 and rebuilt mplayer-plugin via ABS
    Running firefox after upgrade first time mplayer-plugin works properly. But all next launches finished with crash.
    Sometimes plugin started, but controls doesn't work and CPU load about 100%, so I can only terminate it.
    The same problem in Slackware http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … p?t=549302
    So, I built old mplayer-plugin 3.35 and installed it. No more crashes in firefox 2.0.0.4 for me. I need to rebuilt mplayer - some libraries upgraded after pacman -Syu
    Full screen mode work normally, if video output switched to 'gl' (my videocard is Intel i855G)
    Bitrate (or resolution) still detect unproperly on some streams.

  • Mplayer-plugin

    I have a problem with mplayer-plugin If I try to view apple trialers or streaming stuff firefox locks up ...
    Is there any way I can trace the problem (in a term maybe!) ?

    try moving ~/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf out of the way. the defaults in /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf are working with most apple trailers. they will be overridden by whatever you have in your user's configuration.
    to trace what mplayer-plugin is doing, add
    debug=[0-3]
    in /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf

  • Mplayer-plugin doesnt show in about:plugins?

    Why..
    I have installed mplayer-plugin but it doesnt show when I type about:plugins in firefox?

    Why is all mplayer plugins put here:
    /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/
    I had to copy /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/*.* to .mozilla/plugins/ to make firefox notice all the mplayerplugins.. now it shows in about:plugins.

  • Mplayer plugin crashes swiftfox

    After latest update of mplayer I have problem using the mplayer plugin in in swiftox. For no apparent reason, when it tries to play online content, swiftfox closes. When I try to play it again 2 out of 10 times it plays but it is very annoying.
    Has anyone else noticed this? Is there any fix?

    the people in http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=31218 apparently noticed it
