[Solved] MSI Afterburner on laptops (GT60 2PC Dominator).

Morning,
Am I able to download and run afterburner on my GT60 2PC and not totally fry it? I've noticed GPU temps get up to 70 degrees on BF4 etc so it doesn't look like I've got much room for OC'ing the GPU anyway (do the temps read true on the MSI laptops or are they reading high????? Previous laptop read 120 degress C but it wasn't running that hot).
Anyone get on experience of afterburner specific to the GT60 2pc???
Cheers,
Olly

It probably shows right temp values - but officially laptops are not supported. GPU temps can reach upto 85+ and it's normal on laptops; my all older laptops did some 90+ max and got no failure. Now my GT70 680M hovers max about 85 and it's totally acceptable on MSI laptops.
Thanks for the reply, I'll think I'll skip the afterburner software then! I'm getting 70 degrees C most of the time so that's not bad then!
I'll just have to play with in game settings to get better FPS then.
Thanks

  • MSI GT60 2PC Dominator BIOS Update RAID0 problem

HI THERE , this is my first topic in msi forum and I hope you can solve my problem
I have the MSI GT60 2PC Dominator, my laptop came with FreeDOS with E16F4IMS.50Y non raid0 bios version (installed only one msata 128Gb), One day i upgraded my Laptop, I installed two more msata 128Gb. Now 384Gb Raid0 hard disk and i installed windows 8.1 64bit (Working UEFI mode).
I flashed the bios yesterday to the E16F4IMS.515 which is the latest one but it seems that it doesn't support the RAID0, i didn't care about that, i installed windows 8 but everyday i'm getting several problems with GPU and that blue screen and its really annoying.
So i tried to upgrade E16F4IMS.715 , But Flash_BIOS_by_UEFI_BIOS_Setup_Utility_e n.pdf this method not supported my laptop (Automatically restart after select bios file.), And i tried too EFI Shell mode bios update. But there is no Afuefix64.edi and FLASH.NSH files in New bios zip file. It has only E16F4IMS.715 file.
Now my question is How can i flash the bios to E16F4IMS.715?
Sorry for my bad English and i thanks for your corporation.

Hello and welcome to the forum!
Sadly there is only 1 person that is able to help you with flashing procedure, but also directing you to the right BIOS file, and it's Svet. You might have to wait a little bit, as you may already know, it's users to users forum, and we come up when we can and if we actually want to.
What way did you flash the BIOS?
I used EFI BIOS utility method. I chose BIOS file and when i click OK button ,  it starts normally after 20-30sec. it doesn't update bios. How ever it works on E16F4IMS.515 (Non-RAID) bios updated successfully. But not working E16F4IMS.715 (RAID0) bios.

  • MSI GT60 2PC Dominator-- Loads of problems trying to install Win8 onto SSD

    Hi guys,
I really, really hope someone can help me!
I recently purchased GT60 2PC Dominator-626 which is awesome. However, it doesn't come with an SSD so I've got a Crucial M500 which I've installed. I'm trying to move over my Win8 install to this drive so that I can have my OS and most used programs on the SSD, but I've been having sooo many problems in doing this. I've tried using cloning software but no luck, whenever I clone the drive and enter bios or boot menu, it will never boot from the SSD.
What I'd be really happy to do is have a fresh install of Win8 onto the SSD, but when I try to reset my PC using the MSI UEFI settings, i will never give me the option to re-install to the SSD, only the original HD.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you!

Well after trying LOADS of different cloning options, I finally found a way to get my SSD work with this laptop:
I opened Burn Recovery from the app page, used that to create 5 x DVD back up of the system.
Then I removed the old HD, leaving only the SSD in. Placed the first recovery disc in and booted from DVD/CD drive.
Followed that process and now I have an install of Win8 with the MSI stuff on my SSD. I then just got Win8 running, inserted the old HD and reformatted it!

In ASIA market, GT60 is really popular, especially the one with GTX880M and 3K panel.
I think right now onlt GTX880M could play most game smoothly at 2880x1620 resolution,
so if other brand come out GTX860M/GTX850M with 3K/4K panel, it's not able to play!!

  • How can i downgrade MSI GT60 2PC Dominator to win7

Hi everybody, i am new in this comunity and my english are bad but i understand things you are writting, i have a doubt:
i dont like the win 8.1 and i want to downgrade my msi to win7 ultimate. how can i downgrade it?
    thanks

    Hi,
You would have to buy Windows 7 DVD+License key and simply install it on your laptop. Make note that you are not supposed to flash BIOS your laptop came with, even if it says "Windows 8 compatible".
Also I can remember that most today's laptops made by MSI come with Windows X key embedded to the BIOS, so would be worth somehow recovering the key and use it on different computer if you wish.

  • Multiple MSI GT60 2PC Dominator Problems

This thing is a beast when it comes to running games and getting my work done, but there are so many problems that seem to sprout up every twenty seconds that I'm really starting to regret not getting another laptop.
Anyway, I have several problems that I had to make an account to get help for, since there is no help whatsoever in the manual or elsewhere online.
1.) When the computer is completely shut off, and I press the power button, it seems to start up for a moment (you can hear the fans start to whirl and whatnot), but then it turns back off. It then repeats this process for a random amount of time before it actually starts up (if it starts up at all).
2.) The special keys that came on the computer, such as "cooler boost", "Display off", and "Dragoon Gaming Center" haven't been working properly. While the cooler boost still functions well, the Gaming Center icon and the Display Off button no longer respond to me pressing them. I mostly used Dragon gaming center to see how hot my CPU and GPU were running, but now it refuses to work whatsoever.
3.) The "Fn key + F5" and other combinations no longer work. As in, I can no longer set my computer to eco mode or anything like that. The only function that seems to still work is when I want to turn off my keyboard backlight, but other than that, the Fn key seems broken somehow.
Please help, it's very frustrating trying to deal with all this and finding no help online whatsoever.

The information you give us is limited and symptom only, no other information such as OS, BIOS, EC, and app version which make it difficult to give advise. But for issue No. 1, maybe it is mechanical problem. when power button is hit, somehow the button get stuck or sink and then accidentally the power button is hit again which cause system shutdown.
For issue 2 and 3, make sure you have installed correct SCM version and EC firmware for your system.

  • MSI GT60 2PC Dominator (w/ GTX 870M) - FPS Drop/Fan Problem

    Hello all,
as the title explains, I am having a frustrating problem with FPS drops in demanding games only (until now in The Witcher 2/Bioshock Infinite) which I imagine is related to the fan speed. My notebook was bought on the end of September 2014, and this problem has always happened (I haven't played many demanding games during this year so that's why I am only really worried about it now).
I recorded a few in-game videos (during a The Witcher 2 session) so you can see with your own eyes how these drops happen.
Also, in the second clip, you can see how my fan speed oscillates all the time during heavy gaming (also during "The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition", in High Specs with minor tweaks). I would really appreciate if someone could tell me if this is normal or not, because it has been bugging me for a while! I haven't synchronized the clip of my fan oscillating with the actual gameplay during the time, but I can guarantee that in general these FPS Drops happen the most when the fan speed is oscillating the most.
If any more information is necessary, please ask me so I can provide them promptly!
I hope someone can help me!

    Thank you for you consideration!

hey, maybe you can use the tool to export your system config so we can try to give advice. However, fan speed raising is the effect of the heat not the cause of the fps issue.

  • GT60 2PC Dominator - Overheating problems

    Hey guys,
I am getting desperate here. My 6months old Dominator has been lately suffering from massive overheating problems - 90C+ which happens after in a short while after launching any Dx11 game (but many Dx9 suffers from the same). I have tried two different cooling pads Zalman and now Cooler Master N-1 that has positional fans which I have moved underneath the GPU+CPU, but computer behaves like they are not there, so it is virtually no good at all.
What happens when PC gets into overheated state is that game starts massively to stutters both audio and video in terms of freezing in and out in short intervals that even ensues in Wind when I close the application. I wanted to check out whether the thermal compound has not been reduced, but comp is still sealed and after 6months that seems rather suspicious.
What do you recommend ? Are there any other cooling solutions for laptops other than ineffective cooling pads ??
    Cheers
    Mars

    Hi,
What country do you live in? As in EU (at least as far as I am aware of) opening notebook for repasting (or adding RAM/HDD/SSD) is OK and doesn't void warranty. However if you prefer to hear an official statement, contact MSI. If you live else where, then opening very likely voids the warranty.
    >>How to contact MSI.<<
At last you can RMA the notebook.

  • GT60 2pc dominator pulsing power light

I have my 5 month old laptop and it just decided not to boot. When i press power the light lights up and the fan starts then 2 seconds laters it goes dead and this carries on in a loop. The funny thing was is when it first did this i left it and after 40 mins it came on but now its back too the loop.  Any clues guys

Since your laptop is GT60, I assume your power button may be stuck and cause it abnormally power up and down.
It may be stuck by the middle touch panel.
If you don't have concerns about the warranty, find a slot type of screwdriver to pull up the touch panel and re-install it gently.
There're five slots on the top edge of the keyboard to pull the touch panel.
Watch out for the scratches by the screwdriver.

  • First real problem with GT60 2PC Dominator

Since last week my games (mostly) both the video and sound stutters/lag/freeze for about 3-5 seconds every 2-5 minutes! I thought its only just one game (Assasin Creed Unity) since it really is demanding, but then I play the others such as BF4, Chivalry Medieval, DayZ, CS:GO, Far Cry 4 and Payday 2 with the same result. It didn't freeze on older/ less demanding games like Age of Empires and Minecraft though.
Opened up Dragon Gaming Center, monitored my temps, GPU usually 80+ and CPU 85-90 so its not that hot, updated all my drivers to the latest (Nvidia and Intel CPU) even turning my game into a $400 laptop quality with all minimum settings still the same, and then decided to get loud and turned my cooler boost 2 on temp dropped by 2-5c and it still stuttering so I'm kinda lost here.
Nothing to do with my network/internet, HD youtube works fine, pings great and downloadings ok. This laptop is only a month old so I really hope its not the hardware problems! Please suggest anything I should do, games were fine FPS great but the stuttering/freezing really annoys me, especially in multiplayer. I'd rather game on my old Toshiba with low settings to be honest.

    Hello mark.jana
Those demanding games you listed apparently required many graphic textures frequently accessed from the HDD, so of course it would be better to use a SSD instead. And personally I would also suggest you add another 8GB RAM stick to the laptop.
But you mentioned the temperature usually went 80+ and between 85~90. Is this happened during the game, not idling, right? Just want to make sure the thermal paste/pipe of the CPU/GPU are okay.
Recommend you google "AfterBurner" and install it. It can show you the GPU clock and its temperature. Make sure GPU clock is not stalling or overheating which may cause your games stutter/lag/freeze.
By the way, to know whether if the laptop is running NVIDIA graphics card, just see the LED color of the power button. When it glows orange, it's running NVIDIA graphics card. When it glows white (or blue for GE series), it's running Intel graphics card.
thanks for the reply, RAM usage usually between 30-50% so sticking another 8GB stick in probably won't help much but I will buy it anyway since I will be editing lots of video/photo and using AUTOcad in the future. Whats the difference between Dragon Gaming Center and AfterBurner?
also thanks for the last tip I really didn't know that!

  • GT60 2PC Dominator issues.

    Right... hello!
I bought this laptop about a month ago and I'm really confused regarding the performance/ fps etc.
Considering this is a laptop that cost 1k... I'd expect much better fps.
The nvidia experience centre sets the graphics high... but then I try to play games like BF4 and it's unplayable (stuttering around 15/20 fps).
Am I missing something???? Everything is updated, everything is right. I can play COD: Ghosts on max with constant 60 fps in 1080p.
    Any suggestions?

What nvidia driver are you using?
Are you running games under battery mode or AC mode?

  • Problem with SCM on gt60 2pc dominator

    Hello,
Suddenly I noticed that my upper shortcut buttons are not responding!
I use windows 8.1, tried to download and install again the SCM drivers but it didnt work out.
could it be related to frim update ?
what should I do? I use this keys a lot!

What is your EC firmware version?
SCM has to work with correct EC firmware version.
Some users installed Live Update (which is used for mainboard products) and caused the EC firmware altered to the wrong version.
And some just updated the wrong EC firmware to cause it failed.

  • MSI GT70 2PC Dominator Wifi Dropping

Hi there, new user here, first of all I have already read the existing post regarding wifi drops and fixes. To clarify, below are the steps that I have taken as per suggestions that i found on the net:
    1. Uninstalled the Killer Gaming Network manager program and only using the wifi/lan drivers.
    2. Re installed updated killer gaming network manager and drivers from both MSI and Killer websites.
    3. Change the maximize the power saving mode in the battery section for wireless adapter.
    4. Unable the power management settings in the network wireless via network and sharing centre.
    5. Use several different drivers via the update drivers window in network adapter (via device manager)
        - ive used the standard killer n1202 drivers.
        - ive used the qualcomm atheros wireless network adapter (both microsoft and qualcomm)
        - currently using the qualcomm atheros ar9462 802.11a/b/g/n wifi adapter
These are the steps that i've taken, one of the many that i can remember doing at the moment. Still to this day my wifi issue persist.
I refuse to believe that this is a hardware issue because the current GT70 that i am using is a brand new laptop that MSI has given me after I RMAed my earlier GT70. So you can say this is the 2nd laptop they've provided to me after making a hell lot of noise to them because my first GT70 had an unknown issue 1 week after light usage.
I've ran out of ideas on what to do, i've been sucking this up for the past 3-4 months as i cant find a fix. I've done everything i can except updating the bios, which i was advised not to since I do not know how to flash or update my bios (whichever term you call it).
My wifi drops so often and I keep having to flush my dns (using ipconfig /flushdns) every 30 mins or so just to able to use the net, much less play any games.
So i was wondering if there was any steps that I missed? Im really in desperate need for help as i no longer know what to do.
I appreciate any help that you guys can provide. Thank you very much!

Just a quick update on my wifi after installing two different 'realtek drivers' from the MSI website.
It's still too early to tell, I will update further once i start gaming.
Just incase you guys wanna install the drivers, proceed to this link:
    http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GT70-2PC-Dominator.html#down-driver&Win8.1 64
    Download this two files:
    Realtek Audio Drivers (222.21MB)
    Realtek Cardreader RTS5227-GR & RTS5249-GR (10.3MB)
PS: I downloaded the audio drivers just cause it had the name realtek in there lul!
    Keep me posted!
     UPDATE
After 2 hours of gaming and surfing the web, i didn't had to constantly flush my dns. Although my wifi bar alternates between 4 and 5 bars, im guessing this is normal (as the wireless modem isn't in my room but the room opposite mine).
So far so good, is it a coincidence? I am not too sure, give me a few more days of test run and it'll be more conclusive. I say you guys should update your drivers, no harm in trying right?

  • HELP: GT70 2PC Dominator: Lag/stutter watching online streams + StarCraftII prob

    Hi,
I would greatly appreciate if somebody could please help me out here.
I own an MSI GT70 2PC Dominator with this "awesome" GTX870M graphics card and all the other great features that are listed on MSI's website (here: msi.com/product/nb/GT70-2PC-Dominator.html#hero-overview).
    My problems are the following:
    1. Lag/stutter when watching videos / streams online.
This applies to all sorts of videos and streams online, no matter the video format or website, I can never escape this damn stutter. But to take a good example: I love to watch StarCraft II on twitch. However I can at best watch it with "High" quality, "Source" quality causes the video to reload constantly and sometimes even the "High" quality causes stutter and lag. HOWEVER, on my girlfriends shitty $200-Acer laptop I can watch the exact same streams on source quality with no problems. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE??? Both computers using firefox webbrowser. My NVIDIA (this is related to the graphics, right?) drivers are updated.
    2. StarCraft II graphics bug:
When playing SCII, it sometimes happends that some of the textures goes bananas. I have no picture of this, but it is like the smaller textures get somehow "extended" and "enlarged" while watching them from some angles. If anybody is familiar StarCraftII then I am for example talking about the mined vespene gas. They are usually small containers carried by the SCV's, but when this "bug" occurs, they start flickering and covering the entire screen, and when they "stabilize" for short periods of time (milliseconds) - they are about 10 times as big as they should be. Whaaaaat is going on?
I know I am completely useless at computers, but should I really be having these problems after buying a completely new product that should already be ready to perform at the highest levels? What could be causing this, are there any other drivers that I need to install or could I by mistake have messed up my settings somewhere? I am pretty sure it is not the internet connection, I can tell you that much.
Please excuse my English, it is my second language. I will be watching this thread on a daily basis so please help me and share your wisdom!
    Best regards,
    Dennis
