hello everybodu
i have two monter connected to my gforce 8600GT gfx card.i am using seperate X screen option in           "nvida-settings"  with xinerama enabled.the problem is that when i open a application say a terminal it pops up in the secondary screen when i want it to start in the primary screen . i dont want this to happen . I want two independent screen on each monter.
Before i was using fluxbox ,i had disabled xinerama optinon,this gave me two seperate desktops that were independent fo each other, but when i disable xinerama while running openbox the secondary screen goes blank whit the mouse coursor changing to a X.
please help

@sandman
i used the following in my .xinitrc and everything seems to work fine
DISPLAY=:0.0
exec /usr/bin/openbox &
DISPLAY=:0.1
exec /usr/bin/openbox
but i remember reading someware that one is not supposed to have two exec in .xinitrc.

  • [SOLVED] Multiple Instances of Word 2010; Possible to Force Single Instance?

    Is it possible to either:
    Control Word instancing so that its a single instace application; OR
    Adjust the behavior so that if there's already an Word of word, new documents (no matter how they're launched) will open in the existing instance and NOT a new one?
    I have a user who tends to open documents en masse/in bulk, highlighting 2-8 at a time and opening them (alternate-click > open OR once selected hitting [Enter]).
    When they do this, multiple instances of Word are launched.
    Very rarely is there an instance for each document, but its usually close.  For example, if they opened 8 documents there might be 5-7 instances, with several instances showing 2 or more documents in View > Switch Windows.
    Multiple instances of Word are a problem for this user because they because a heavy user of Ctrl+F6 / Ctrl+Shift+F6.
    And when documents are spread out across multiple instances, this does not work: It does not allow them to cycle through all opened documents; It will only cycle through those that are within that particular instance of Word.
    Is this by design?
    Is this a change in the way earlier versions of Word behaved?
    Is this an 'undocumented feature' [or worse]?
    Can this behavior be controlled?

    No idea; I'd call it a bug.
    This behavior started with Word 2007 or 2010, earlier versions opened all documents within a single instance.
    See 1.
    No, unfortunately not.

  • Multiple instances of Mail.app must be possible

    I've seen many questions regarding the possibility of running multiple instances of Mail.app as separate processes. There seems to be much good reason to be able to do so, i.e. separating work and private mail, and very little bad reason to do so (maybe some problems when doing upgrades or backups, but I'm not yet sure of this). It also seems that it should not be so hard to do.
    So far, using some web acquired wisdom, I've done the following:
    1. Duplicate mail.app:
    sudo ditto Mail.app WorkMail.app
    2. Rename the executable:
    mv /Applications/WorkMail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail /Applications/WorkMail.app/Contents/MacOS/WorkMail
    3. Use Property List Editor to set the following values in/Applications/WorkMail.app/Contents/Info.plist (Apple-S to Save changes!):
    Root/CFBundleExecutable=WorkMail
    Root/CFBundleIdentifier=com.apple.workmail
    Root/CFBundleName=WorkMail
    Root/NSServices/0/NSPortName=WorkMail
    Root/NSServices/1/NSPortName=WorkMail
    Root/NSServices/2/NSPortName=WorkMail
    Root/UTExportedTypeDeclarations/0/UTTypeIdentifier=com.apple.workmail.emlx
    Root/UTExportedTypeDeclarations/1/UTTypeIdentifier=com.apple.workmail.emlx.part
    4. Create the following directories:
    mkdir ~/Library/WorkMail Downloads
    mkdir ~/Library/WorkMail
    4. Launch the 'new' application 'WorkMail'.
    5. Create mail accounts using the application's 'wizard'.
    Here is where the first problem is encountered. The new account directories and files are still created at ~/Library/Mail. Navigating to Mail->Preferences->Accounts->[account_name]->Advanced seems to offer the option to change the mail store account directory, but nothing can actually be changed here. So...
    6. Quit WorkMail.
    7. Move newly created account(s) directories (where [newaccountdirectory] is a directory named with the format: [mail_type]-[user]@[domain].[tld]@[pop].[domain].[tld]]) to the correct location:
    sudo mv ~/Library/Mail/[newaccountdirectory] ~/Library/WorkMail/
    8. Use Property List Editor to set the following values in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.workmail.plist (Apple-S to Save changes!):
    /Root/ActiveViewers/0/AttachedMailboxListExpandedItems/[0to_#_ofaccounts]/=~/Library/WorkMail/Mailboxes/...
    /Root/CurrentTransferMailboxPath=~/Library/WorkMail/Mailboxes/...
    /Root/MailAccounts/[0to_#_of_accounts]/AccountPath=~/Library/WorkMail/[new_accountdirectory]
    /Root/MailDownloadsPath=~/Library/WorkMail Downloads
    9. Relaunch WorkMail.
    Everything at this point seems to work okay, **BUT** when I launch Mail while WorkMail is launched, I find that I cannot navigate into any mail folders within Mail. I receive an error message indicating that a necessary directory is locked. It seems that the locking mechanism used by the application may be hard-coded to lock ~/Library/Mail, and both instances of the application continue to take this action when launched, making it impossible for both to work harmoniously at the same time. I will conduct more testing and experimentation, but I am not yet capable of editing the application itself. If anyone can take us this last step, I'm sure there are many who would also like to be able to take advantage of the potential functionality.
    Thanks for any input!

    Hopefully, there is someone with a programming background who
    can take me and other who have posted similar questions through
    the final mile on this...
    Well, I do have a programming background, and I must say that it amazes me that someone might want to do what you did to “solve” a problem that IMO doesn’t exist.
    What exactly is it that you expect to accomplish by running multiple instances of Mail, and for which neither (1) organizing your mail using multiple mail accounts, custom mailboxes, rules, and/or smart mailboxes, nor (2) setting up separate user accounts, are acceptable solutions? I just don’t get it.
    I've seen many questions regarding the possibility of running multiple
    instances of Mail.app as separate processes.
    I haven’t. Could you please provide a link for such a question, preferably one asked by someone who knew how Mail and Mac OS X work, i.e. a link for a case where there really was such a need?
    There seems to be much good reason to be able to do so
    I know of no such reasons, neither good nor bad.
    i.e. separating work and private mail
    I don’t see how that’s a reason to want to run multiple instances of Mail. Could you please elaborate?
    Maybe if you tell us what exactly is the problem that you’re trying to solve, instead of focusing on a convoluted “solution” that doesn’t work, we could propose a solution that does...
    and very little bad reason to do so
    Well, if the fact that it’s so convoluted and doesn’t even work aren’t bad enough reasons, I don’t know what it is...
    It also seems that it should not be so hard to do.
    I wonder what makes you think so. It does certainly seem hard to me, so hard that I don’t even think it can be done without breaking something, if at all...

  • Multiple instances of the same bean class in session?

    Im trying to think of a way to have multiple instances of the same bean class in session scope using JSF. For example, lets say that I have two <h:dataTable>s on the same page. They both use the backing bean called genericBean. Now, the content for genericBean will be different for each <h:dataTable>. In fact, the data source that backs genericBean is not known until runtime. It could be a database, web service, etc.
    What I would like is for when JSF needs access genericBean instead of looking for the value with key genericBean in the session map it looks for genericBean_[some runtime ID]. I could specify this id in EL on a custom component, as a request parameter or whatever.
    I think that I need the bean to be in session scope because the tables are complex and I want them to be editable.
    I have some ideas about how I can do this but I was wondering if someone has already solved this problem or if there is a standard way to do this using tools like Shale, etc.
    Thanks,
    Randy

    Well, I came up with an interesting solution to this so I thought that I would post it here.
    I have a page that looks like this.
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>My Page</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <f:view>
    <f:subview id="component1">
    <jsp:include page="component.jsp">
    <jsp:param name="id" value="a" />
    </jsp:include>
    </f:subview>
    <hr>
    <f:subview id="component2">
    <jsp:include page="component.jsp">
    <jsp:param name="id" value="b" />
    </jsp:include>
    </f:subview>
    </f:view>
    </body>
    </html>
    And component.jsp looke like this.
    <f:verbatim>
    <p>
    <h1>Component
    </f:verbatim>
    <h:outputText value=" #{param.id}" />
    <f:verbatim>
    </h1>
    </p>
    </f:verbatim>
    <h:form>
    <h:outputText value="#{component.id}" />
    <h:outputText value="#{component.value}" />
    <h:commandButton value="increment" action="#{component.increment}" />
    <h:commandButton value="decrement" action="#{component.decrement}" />
    <f:verbatim>
    <input type="hidden" name="id"
    value="</f:verbatim><h:outputText value="#{param.id}"/><f:verbatim>" />
    </f:verbatim>
    </h:form>
    The idea is that I want component.jsp to be initialized differently based on the id param. The component managed bean is configured to be in session scope but I want the component instance for id a and id b to be different instances in session scope. Therefore, I added a custom variable resolver to handle this.
    public Object resolveVariable(FacesContext context, String name) {
    // This id will be different for the different subviews.
    HttpServletRequest request = (HttpServletRequest) context.getExternalContext() .getRequest();
    String id = request.getParameter("id");
    // If there is an id in the request then check if this is a bean that can have multiple
    // instances in session scope.
    if ((id != null) && (id.length() > 0)) {
    ExternalContext ec = context.getExternalContext();
    // Build the new name for the key of this bean
    String newName = name + "_" + id;
    Object value = null;
    // See if the bean instance already esists.
    if ((null == (value = ec.getRequestMap().get(newName))) &&
    (null == (value = ec.getSessionMap().get(newName))) &&
    (null == (value = ec.getApplicationMap().get(newName)))) {
         // We could not find the bean instance in scope so create the bean
         // using the standard variable resolver.
    value = original.resolveVariable(context, name);
    // Now check if the bean implements that page component interface. If it is
    // a page component then we want to rename the key to access this bean so
    // that the instance is only used when the id is provided in the request.
    // For example, if there are two components (a and b) we will have in session scope
    // component_a and component_b. The will each point to a unique instance of the
    // Component bean class.
    if (value instanceof PageComponent) {
    // Try to get the value again
    if (null != (value = ec.getRequestMap().get(name))) {
         // Initialize the bean using the id
    ((PageComponent) value).initInstance(id);
    ec.getRequestMap().remove(name);
    ec.getRequestMap().put(newName, value);
    } else if (null != (value = ec.getSessionMap().get(name))) {
    ((PageComponent) value).initInstance(id);
    ec.getSessionMap().remove(name);
    ec.getSessionMap().put(newName, value);
    } else if (null != (value = ec.getApplicationMap().get(name))) {
    ((PageComponent) value).initInstance(id);
    ec.getApplicationMap().remove(name);
    ec.getApplicationMap().put(newName, value);
    return value;
    return original.resolveVariable(context, name);
    }

  • Stop opening multiple instances of the same application

    I am used to having graphic files on my desktop, when editing one I would simply right-click and pick "open with" > Photoshop (which is always open in its own desktop in my computer). Now out of the blue, if I do that, it loads another instance of Photoshop, which is certainly what I don't want. I can have 2, 3, 4 Photoshops running at the same time and editing the same image!
    Any idea how to solve this? I searched but all I could find is people wanting the opposite i.e. opening multiple instances of the same app.

    Your best bet to prevent this is to detach or unmount this drive; however, you can also try resetting your Mac's launch services, to have it re-scan only the Applications folders on your boot drive for programs to associate with documents and services you are using. Running the following command in the OS X Terminal will kill the current launch services database (its long, but copy and paste the entire line):
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill
    Following this, run the following command to seed the database with the apps you currently have installed:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -seed
    Note that these changes will only apply when opening documents that have not been specifically assigned to a program. If you find a specific document continues to open the program on the external drive, then you can get info on it and change the associated program in the "Open With" section of the info window. After doing this, you might need to re-run these commands above, as opening the program will register it with OS X's launch services and have it now be available for automatically handling other documents.

  • Multiple instances of VBAI

    I know that we can now acquire from multiple cameras in VBAI (thanks!).  However, I feel that doing so leads to very complex inspection sequences.  It does not look like VBAI has fully embraced parallelism for things other than FTP transfer.  What do I do if I have 5 GigE cameras that each must be triggered, and where it is possible that two could be triggered at the same time?  Can I run multiple instances of VBAI on a single PC (hey, it's multicore)?  I predict that the current answer is to just use LabVIEW, but VBAI is mostly LabVIEW.... right?
    I would like to maintain only the simple, single-camera, inspections on the PC.  Running multiple VBAI instances would allow me to dedicate an instance to each camera without worrying about what is going on wth the other 4 (or more).
    No, I haven't tried to do this yet.  Currently, I am out of town and away from my vision lab.  I figured that if this is possible, it is worth mentioning to the public, and if it is not then it is worth mentioning to R&D.  The system I am picturing would be a future version of a system we just completed where we had 4 NI Smart Cameras and one GigE camera.  The question came up about what to do if all 5 cameras were GigE.  Don't worry, we still love the SmartCams!

    FYI, feedback to Marketing / Product Development from an industrial user of several brands of vision systems...
    I agree that it would be very useful to be able to run multiple instances of the VBAI application!   Since each one would run in it's own process space, you could:
    - Shut down individual inspections for program adjustments without affecting others that may be in the same program on different cameras.
    - Make the programs simpler and easier to understand without as much branching logic.
    - Make the NI software a better value, by allowing people to use 1 piece of generic hardware instead of multiple dedicated processors. (PC, CVS, SmartCamera, etc)  This would make the NI software a more attractive choice for applications where we currently buy lower cost Banner, DVT, or Cognex units or if more power is needed-- an easier to maintain Keyence unit.
    Currently IMO, because of the difficulties and expense involved with licensing, software version dependencies, and working with the NI hardware in general, I only consider NI where the additional functionality/flexibility is required.  I have had good luck with PC-based applications of VBAI.  If I could use an off-the-shelf industrial PC and run inspections in parallel-- making it easier to maintain and lowering the average cost per inspection, I probably would reconsider.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Multiple instances of one app of the same name

    Hello,
    we have few FMS/AMS servers, versions 4, 4.5 and 5, running some kind of internet TV tubes on them.
    Each tube is supposed to run as unique instance of a Tube app, with unique settings for publishing to CDN (Akamai).
    Sometimes following scenario happens: We reload the stream via administration console or administration API with use of reloadApp command, instance starts closing sequence, even triggers onAppStop event. But as the new instance starts, the old process wakes up again and lives together with the new one - when I check then throught administration API with use of getActiveInstances command, it shows me more instance of the same name as result - for example:
    -<data>
    <_0>tv_app/tube25</_0>
    <_1>tv_app/tube2</_1>
    <_2>tv_app/tube21</_2>
    <_3>tv_app/tube2</_3>
    <_4>tv_app/tube2</_4>
    </data>
    From logs I can see that each of that instances runs under different process ID (x pid column).
    This is quite unpreffered behaviour, as with the same connection settings the multiple instances steals the connection to CDN entry point from each other which causes problems and unpredictable behaviour...
    I have following questions related to this:
    1. - Why the onAppStop is triggered when using reloadApp and unloadApp commands or buttons in admin console, when documentation says that this event should not be triggered on these ocassions (see http://help.adobe.com/en_US/adobemediaserver/ssaslr/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11a11afc95e-7 edfSSASLR.2.3.html#WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11a11afc95e-7fe2SSASLR.2.3)
    2. - How is it possible that system runs more instances of the same app with the same name? How to avoid such behaviour?
    I already noticed following aspects to have influence on the possibility to run multiple instance with the same name and got rid of them but problem still persists:
    - case sensivity of app name (one client connects to TV_app/tube2 and other connects to tv_app/tube2)
    - using false as return value in onAppStop event handler - when reloaded, new instance is started but the old one persists
    I am very eager to hear some explanation or clarification of such logic as it comes to me as some kind of internal bug as I have found everywhere that the instances names should be always unique....
    Thanks

    I just want to note that my recommendations led my clients to purchase more than 5 licences of FMIS/AMIS througt the time.
    As I see how low is the passion to react to any problem on Adobe side, I would have probably changed my mind.
    This is really pain in the *** as any call to adobe official contact (taken on mind that to find one is a big quest by itself) lead just to reply "pay nasty amount for our consultancy Sir!" and it does not look any better here....
    I am no novice on FMS/AMS platform, working with it more than 6 years throught many projects and I would not ask for some stupid questions which could be solved just by looking to documentation or could be solved by some performance eperience.
    I am really upset for this :/

  • Static member problem in multiple instance of  web application

    Problem
    I am working on a product which is java based. I have a war file. I have to deploy this war file in JBoss. Further, I need to run multiple instance of this war file in same JBoss instance.
    Issue
         In that war file there is servlet Start.java. That servlet calls an other class from its init method. Here is code
    public class Start extends HttpServlet
         public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException
              super.init(config);
              DB.loadProperties (db.properties);
         } // init
         public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
              throws ServletException, IOException
                   } // doGet
         public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
              throws ServletException, IOException
                   } // doPost
    } // Start
    public final class DB implements Serializable
         public static final String     P_UID = "ApplicationUserID";
         private static final String     DEFAULT_UID = "System";
         public static final String     P_PWD = "ApplicationPassword";
         private static final String     DEFAULT_PWD ="System";
         public static final String     P_STORE_PWD = "StorePassword";
         private static Properties           s_prop = new Properties();
    public static boolean loadProperties (String filename)
         {    // looks for properties file
    s_prop = new Properties();
              FileInputStream fis = null;
              try
                   fis = new FileInputStream(filename);
                   s_prop.load(fis);
                   fis.close();
              catch (FileNotFoundException e)
                   log.warning(filename + " not found");
                   loadOK = false;
         }
    As you can see if I deployed two instance of this war in JBoss and assume each instance point to its own properties file. The Static members are problem.
    Restriction
         I am not allowed change the code or logic of the product. I must be able to get some thing outside or apply a patch to solve this problem.
    Please Help
    Possible option that I have thought
    1 Using multiple JVM - Not an option in this project
    2 Using multiple JBoss Not the requirement (need to run only on single Instance of JBoss)
    3 Use own class loader for war/ear dont know how in JBoss need help.
    I am using JBoss 3.2.3
    Thanks,
    Kumaran

    Static members belong to the class. So, you needto
    think of multiple JVMs for your problem.Thanks for reply.
    dont know how in JBoss need helpJust guessing... clustered environment MAYBE
    RichThanks Rich,
    I dont know how Cluster environment solve my problem. I need more information on your thought. Cloud you explain it.

  • Multiple instances of a subVI - problem if running as executable

    Hello LabVIEW gurus,
    I have written an application, which uses a VI-template to create multiple instances of this subVI which are
    running independently. I use 'Open VI Referece' and the 'Call By Reference Node' VIs. My application works
    fine if it is executed in the LabVIEW development environment.
    But if I use the Application Builder to create a stand alone program, the 'Call By Reference' method seems
    not to work. The program works without any error message, but the subVIs created by call by reference
    deliveres no results. I suppose the subVIs are not created properly.
    Has anybody an idea or hint to solve that problem. Are there any known issues with 'Call By Reference Node'
    and 'executables'. Are there special points to pay attention for?
    I have that problem with LabVIEW 7.0 and 7.1 (Windows2000 and WindowsXP(SP2))
    Thanks for any hint that could be helpful.
    Steffen

    Sorry for the obvious question but did you include the templates as
    dynamic VIs when building the application? Since these VIs are not part
    of the Top Level hierachy, they have to be include explicitely as
    dynamic VIs.
    By the way, when VIs are included as dynamic VIs they are put in the
    internal LLB of the executable file. When opening the VI reference,
    that internal LLB is first looked into for a VI of that name and if it
    is found there the actual path is ignored. The internal VI is opened so
    you don't have to care about absolute paths when using inluded dynamic
    VIs e.g. you can leave paths used during development. The actual path
    is important only when the referenced VI is located outside the
    executable.

  • Problem running multiple instances of Creme JVM on Compaq IPaq

    I have Creme JVM installed on my Compaq iPaq, along with the JVM plugin for Pocket IE registered.
    I am running a socket server program on the Creme JVM on my PDA which listens on a particular port and outputs some response.
    The client to this server is an Applet which is being run from the Pocket IE browser.
    The problem is as the server program is already running on the Creme JVM, the applet is unable to start and says "Another instance of JVM is already running".
    If i stop the server program and then start the applet, it runs fine.
    I have tried running the server program with the option "-mi" which instructs the JVM to run in multiple instance mode, but to no avail.
    Any pointers ??
    TIA
    Harish

    Ok, maybe in 3.22 it was not yet solved, if you download the latest CrEme, this should work. If not, contact NSIcom support: [email protected]

  • Running multiple instances of same servlet

    I am trying to run multiple webapps off of the same weblogic5.1 instance.
              I have setup the webapps and they work individually, but I need one servlet

              Is there a way to move the AppInitservlet to inside the webApp and maybe use
              the web.xml to start each one individually?
              Thank you for any insight

    Replying to myself to try and clarify.
              We are trying to run 2 or more webapps, each webapp tryes to call the
              servlet AppInitServlet.
              The servlet will not allow more than one instance to be in a context.
              In tomcat the servlet works to give a separate instance for each app.

  • AddOn Exe running multiple instance in client machine

    Hello Experts,
    I have created a addon which i have installed in the server .While connecting the addon from the client machine addon runs
    well . But at the end of day when i see the task manager their it shows two to three instance of that addon exe running
    .I have written the application event in my addon for its termination when the sap is closed or addon is stopped.
    Even though system shows two to three instance of that addon exe running on that client machine.
    Suggest how to solve this multiple instance problem of AddOn Exe.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Amit

    Hello Amit,
    this comes because SAP B1 Dumps, and your addon is not terminated. You can check the
    C:\Program Files\SAP\SAP Business One\Log folder for SAP B1 logs. If you see more than 1 file per day, you can make sure, that the application has been restarted.
    When B1 dumps,. the addons are not getting disconnected, so you can build a monitoring procedure into the addon, to look SAP B1 is alive or not.
    In forum, last year I have sent at least 2 solutions for handling this issue, but it is very hard to  handle in terminal servers because there you running several SAP Business One.exe applications.
    If you not using terminal server, it is not an problem. follow up this threads

  • "Open With" drop-down menu has multiple instances of apps

    When I right-click on a file and select "Open With", the resulting drop-down menu contains many, many multiple instances of the same app - five Firefox's, five Quicktime Player's, at least three instances of every relevant app. Why is that happening, and how can I clean that menu up?

    I happen to have the same problem. However I cannot find the two files in step two:
    2.
    Trash the following two files in the Macintosh HD > Library > Caches folder:
    * com.apple.LaunchServices-0140.csstore
    * com.apple.LaunchServices-014nnn.csstore
    I did input my UID number as you are told to do so in the instructions. The only I can find is the one in step six a:
    6.
    Verify that the problem is solved. If not:
    1. Trash the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file in the Home > Library > Preferences folder of the affected account. See Note [3].
    Is there a reason as to why I cannot find those files? Oh and I did delete it; all it did was reset the file associations.
    Thank you for taking the time to read this post. May your loins be blessed with fertility.

  • Indesign Server CS5 Multiple instance - Urgent, Please help!

    Hi,
    I am using a windows service to access the indesign server. The instance is created like below.
            Dim oType As Type = Type.GetTypeFromProgID("InDesignServer.Application")
            If oType IsNot Nothing Then
                     Return Activator.CreateInstance(oType)
            End If
    If already an instance is created by some other application, then my service is not able to create an instance. I get the following error from the COM
    "Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {96D10A00-63E3-423E-A223-DFC4BEA21206} failed due to the following error: 80080005."
    In some article i read that instance can be created by different port numbers and different configuration.
    Is there anyway in VB.net to create an instance like that and will it solve the multiple instance problem ?
    Regards,
    Karthik B

    The solution on that site looks pretty good in theory.
    What did you do to implement it?
    Did you return a forward page from your executeSynchro method which you overrode to implement it?
