How can I mkinitcpio into my current initramfs? It doesn't seem to write into the actual one unless specified to it

  • My computer is now too fast!

im running into programs saying "sorry, your computer is to bad-a for us to run our program (requires 32 bit and cant run on 64 bit). in windows you can tell the program to run under a certain mode. can you do the same with mac os x?

It helps us to include your Mac and hardware profile. Some systems like Mid-2010 Mac Pro now default to 64-bit kernel mode, so drivers and plug-ins have to be "64-bit" clean if you will, or you might need to (temporarily until updated) change to booting by default in 32-bit mode.
Support for 48GB RAM, better use of memory in CS5, and faster in those cases, do help. But even 32-bit kernel mode runs fine and can run 64-bit applications.
Instead of "some programs" we benefit by knowing what or which, in case it is known issue, unless you just want generic help. But it might be plug-in related, in the past some plug-ins were also legacy and used PowerPC rather than Intel or Universal Binary.
At some point 64-bit may be enforced even more so. Seems like the same transition in ways as the move to Vista SP1 64-bit and later had been.
I can boot Windows 7 64-bit but I can't with my older Mac Pro boot into OS X's 64-bit kernel mode due to having EFI 1.1 which is 32-bit rather than full 64-bit ROM used in UEFI 2.x. But I don't have and my system doesn't support more than 32GB either.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
    How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • My battery life is running out really fast and my computer heats up too much what should I do?

I have a year old Mac Book Pro Retina 13' and the battery runs out way too fast and the life is not as much as it was a few days ago. As well it started 'breathing' heavily and heating up very fast and very heated. What should I do? What has happened to my computer?

  • IPod Shuffle has started playing audio books and podcasts too fast.

iPod Shuffle has started playing audio books and podcasts too fast.  What can be done?

Some other iPods (that are not shuffles) have an onboard setting to change the playback speed for some types of iTunes media, such as audiobooks.  But a shuffle has no screen, to change such settings.
First, do this to reset the shuffle, if you have not already

If that does not help, you may want to do a Restore on the shuffle.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.  The shuffle will be like it was when new, so this problem should be fixed.

  • [SOLVED] music too fast through maudio 24/96, but normal through HDMI

    Hi,
I have a weird issue on my media center. It's a headless system running kodi, nfs and subsonic.  Music plays too fast through the soundcard. It's gaining 4 seconds on every minute. Sound via HDMI is fine. It's happening with any soundsource (subsonic, kodi, mp3, flac)
I am running out of ideas where to look. Any input?

I did not, but now that you say it... And that's exactly what happened. Somehow it got reset to 48000.
Thanks a lot! Sometimes things are so easy :-)

  • How do I disable Lr from opening on computer start-up? It's too slow.

Upon installation of Lr 2 on my Mac Pro OS 10.5, I selected an option to open Lr upon computer start-up.
However, due to the lengthy time it takes Lr to start, I would like to disable this option, but can't find any means of doing it in Lr Preferences or in the top menu items.
    How can I do this?
    Thanks for your help.
    Cheers

If Light Room on your Systems Dock Click on its icon and do not release. a pop up menu should show if open at Login is checked uncheck it.
If its not checked then when open go to preferences and deselect Open at login.
If not there go to System preference Accounts > Login Items is something is there with Light room  in name either unckeck and try after restarting computer. Or remove it al together.

  • Start sudden failure: f1 respawning too fast

    Hi,
Till yesterday I had a fully working and updated  Arch_X86_64/KDE  system (inc. pacman 4.0.1-4).
This morning I've tried a full upgrade (pacman -Syu) and:
    1. Initially found dependency problems related to (as far as I remember) to one of the gcc libraries. (I removed that library and proceedeed upgrading)
    2. A lot of missing or unstrusted. I've run the init key, yet the problem continues.
I decided to reboot intending to rerun pacman -Syu afterwards.
However my system won't boot anymore. It complains as follows:
    1. can't open (no such file) libstdc++.so.6
    2. "INIT: Id "f1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes."
    That's it.
Please advise how to restore full functionality?
    Thanks

Please disable signature checking, at least for now. And you shouldn't face the problem. Read the news here:
    http://www.archlinux.org/news/pacman-4-moves-to-core/
In fact it's disabled in the default pacman.conf, so you must've enabled it yourself. Disable it and proceed to upgrade the system.

  • Audio books play back too fast on iPad

Audiobook play back too fast on iPad .Ok when played back computer have tried re setting iPad and adjusting speech speed

Have your rebooted/restarted your iPad? you do that by pressing the Home and power/sleep button at the same time until the slider to power off the iPad appears. Slide the slider and when screen activity stops depress the two buttons again until the Apple logo appears. When the iPad completes rebooting try again to see if that solved your problem.

  • IPod Touch battery draining too fast?

Recently, the battery life on my iPod touch has been draining too fast. Before I synced my iPod into my new laptop with a new iTunes, my battery life was very long, as I could go on for weeks before it was below 20%. Now, I can go from 100% down to 10% in under a minute.
Even if I charge overnight or have 100%, any time my iPod is unlocked, the battery drains fast. I've done several methods to try and solve the problem, such as deleting apps, lowering brightness, turn off background apps, and even bought the battery life app (which I've had before but it seems to do nothing now). Whether I use the camera, play a game, or surf the internet, the battery bar will go down really fast. Sometimes I'll have half of battery life left and all of a sudden, my iPod turns off because it instantly went frm 50% to 0%. Even harmless actions such as the clock or just staying on the home screen will drain more battery than it usually does. The music app seems to be the only one that can last longer than an hour, but even then, just leaving it in the background will deplete the battery faster than usual, as opposed to it being in the background for hours and not taking away any percentage.
My iPod still recharges normally (and quickly), and for some reason if I lock my iPod while it has a low percentage, when I unlock it again, a lot of battery is regained... and then lost almost immediately.
I'm not sure if this has to do anything with me syncing to a new iTunes. I'm still under the same username and whatnot, and all I did was use home sharing to import all of my music from the old computer to the new one, so I wouldn't have to constantly go to my old computer to sync with my iPod.
I currently use a 4th generation iPod touch with 8GB.
I'm just wondering, what can I do to solve this issue, to return it to how it was before? As of now, I can't afford to replace the iPod, and I'm willing to send my iPod for repair as a last resort.
    Thanks.

However, I suspect that your battery is just dying/wearingout. That happens with age and use.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

  • Capture problem HDV720p25 - picture too fast, sound o.k.

    Hi everyone,
I have the newest version of Final Cut Pro and Mac OSX. I want to cature HDV 720p25 material from a JVC HD101.
The software starts the camera and capture the material - no Problem.
But the captured film in final cut pro has 50 fps and runs too fast! The sound is correct.
    Any ideas? I Hope so...
Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi, I'm not sure what information to give you other than it's a G5 running 10.4.11. Drives I'm not sure about and it is connected using a firewire that is showing up fine in the "About this Mac" window. Here is what it says there:
Maximum Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec
    ELURA70:
    Manufacturer: Canon
    Model: 0xE
    GUID: 0x8500009F154D
Maximum Speed: Up to 100 Mb/sec
    Connection Speed: Unknown
    Sub-units:
    ELURA70 Unit:
    Unit Software Version: 0x10001
    Unit Spec ID: 0xA02D
When I select "Capture" the video on the camera, which is connected through a rear FireWire port, doesn't come on the computer screen. The picture reads, "Preview Disabled." The picture does appear on the camcorder itself and the run times on both the preview box and the camcorder are in sync with one another but there is no picture on the computer screen of the video I'm trying to import. When I put the camera in play and press now the the black screen pops up and reads, "THIS OPERATION COULD NOT BE COMPLETED THERE IS NO VIDEO." I can mark in and out points for clips but if I select clip FCE states that there is no video so it can't be completed.
After doing searches on the web it seems like this is a very common problem. I tried trashing the preferences, reinstalling the program, and upgrading Quicktime to 7.3. At this time I'm getting very frustrated and it seems like such a common problem and the people who have this it seems like they are never able to fully fix it because its an odd bug of some kind. Thanks for your assistance.

  • Battery too fast get low

just use 4 hour battery low battery

Some of the links below cover extending battery time.
Try this first -  Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
