A known issue with Linksys routers is the NAT Type 3 or anything related to dropping of Internet connectivity during play time. Network Address Translation (NAT) is the ability of a router or firewall to translate a public IP address to a private IP address and vice versa. It adds security to the network by keeping the private IP addresses hidden from the outside world. If you are experiencing Strict or Moderate NAT, here are a few things to help you open up your router’s NAT:
1. Determining NAT Capability of the Modem
2. Checking the IP configuration of the Gaming Console
3. Setting up Port Triggering or Port Forwarding
4. Checking the UPnP Feature on the Router
5. Checking the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) Setting of the Router
6. Upgrading the Router with the Latest Firmware

  • E1000 + PS3 =NAT Type 3 Help

I know this has been asked before but nothing seems to work for me. My story is:
I had a WRT150N with a modem in bridge mode and got NAT Type 2 while playing the PS3. The router crashed and I got an E1000 in its place it came with the basic setup CD so I ran that. Then I was getting NAT Type 3. So I called Linksys, and AT&T and neither could help me we opened the ports that Playstation gave me and made sure the UPnP was enabled and all the things they could think of to open my NAT type. But nothing has worked, so if anyone knows anything I could do please let me know. Its just hard to believe that its my playstaion when I had an NAT Type 2 before my old router crashed. I'll supply screen shots whatever you need, I just cant stand to have this NAT type cause it messes with my online gaming.
    Thanks for the Help,

  • Need help changing NAT type (3 -- 2)

    Dear,
I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this is misplaced
Before I bought my router the NAT type was 2 which was fine. Using this router it's NAT type 3 which makes online matchmaking difficult (PS3).
I would like to change it to NAT type 2 but I don't have any experience with ports and changing settings in a router. So if anyone of you could help me out that would be great!
    Router:
    Model number: WRT120N
    Version: 1.0

Try upgrading the firmware of the router first. for instructions, try this

  • Need help opening NAT type to OPEN on a model WRT54GS router for xbox 360

I have tried from other people's advice and when i test Xbox Live i always get a Moderate NAT type. I am becoming frustrated with how it is not working and I am hoping someone can help me. Please leave advice/suggestions and thank you for your time.

Open the setup page of the router using 192.168.1.1 by putting the password as admin with username as blank & click the Administration tab & on the same page you will see UPNP.You need to select it as disable in order to help opening NAT type to OPEN.

hey i have a iphone 4s 64gb but and using the internet share .. how can i change the nat type from strict to open please help me

You will have to configure that with your router. Type your router's IP address in the search/domain bar and allow port forwarding.
What is requiring you to have an open NAT? That issue is usually for gaming consoles, etc.

  • NAT Type 2 but still strict in MW3 - Help please!!

So here's my dilemma. I've been searching for 2 days now how to get an open NAT type in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
I've got a BT HomeHub 2. Simply connecting wirelessly to the network grants me a NAT Type 2, which I understand is supposed to be moderate, and therefore open to a certain extent ... But in-game is says that I have a Strict NAT type and won't let me connect to friends' parties.
I've forwarded all sorts of ports as instructed to do so by various online blogs, that didn't work, neither did portforwarding's website.
I've tried using a static ip and enabling DMZ on the hub, but that wouldn't even allow my PS3 to connect to the router
I've even tried using PPPoE, entering some random's email and password into the boxes as I saw on youtube.
BT's solution is a load of rubbish ... "Try resetting the modem and select static ip in the HH settings".
Has anyone else come across this problem of NAT type 2 being strict on MW3, and have you managed to overcome it??
I'm not a total gimp when it comes to fiddling with computer settings but I can't work this one out.
    Thanks

    Exact same problem here,
Was the above successful and has it remained open?
I was able to quick fix my Nat type by simply loading the multiplayer on cod4 which must open up the required ports but even that is more complicated with the game not loading now at all unless you disable your router (another kettle of fish).
The strict Nat doesn't seem to be as bad lag wise so that's something the developers have fixed with the last MW3 update, however the lack of ability to connect to your friends with a million dollar multiplayer such as MW3 is quite frankly unacceptable and completely defeats the object of such games.
I've tried forwarding ports and all the other methods to no avail, I've yet to try MW2 too see if that will quick fix the problem.
But please let us know if your forwarded ports are still working with an open nat, and if you can join / hear friends.
    Thanks in advance,
Otherwise I'm going to try some other routers as I have plenty of friends with different set ups playing fine with open Nat, that being said there are just as many with different providers and routers suffering the same dilemma, this is certainly not just a home hub issue although if I get another router to work I will certainly enjoy throwing the hh out the window...

  • Issue with Nat type 3 on PS3

I'm having issues trying to connect my PS3 properly to the internet, i keep getting a NAT type 3 which restricts certain chat features. To start off I have the WRT54G firmware version 2.00.8
So, I have been trying to follow multiple tutorials on getting a NAT2 on my Playstation3. I have opened the correct ports, enabled UPnP, DMZ'd it, and gave it a static IP and i STILL get NAT 2
    any suggestions?
Heres a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33H82_pMSOQ) of my connection settings and here is the Status page of my router:

yea I called my ISP yesterday and explained my problem they said that they do not block any ports at all so it cant be from them anyway because i used to have a nat 2 then i reset my router which made it back to nat 3 so i know that it is possible o get it its just the router's screwing something up. I contacted link sys via phone and i explained my problem to the lady, she said she doesn't have enough authority to go into my router's settings but she can transfer me to that department, i say SURE but then she interrupts and tell me theres a fine of like $25 just for talking to them im like "yea, ill go look and see if theres a solution anywhere else"
so im definately not getting any help from link sys at the moment unless one of you guys wanna give me 25 bucks.
please though, is there anything that may be incorrect? i know it has something to do with the router but even though i tried everything everyone has said it still wont work please help!!!

  • FLUCTUATING NAT TYPE

    Hi all,
New member here and very new to navigatng around this site
I have a XBOX ONE and 360. On my XBOX 1 MY Nat type always sets off as moderate and then i change this to open by pressing the LT, RT, LB AND RB on the controller. However when i load COD Ghosts it still shows as Moderate! So the NAT TYPE on my X1 settings is IPEN but in the game its moderate. Why is this?
I have also changed the port settings on my BT HUB 4 to what Microsoft have advised:
    PORT 88 UDP
    PORT 3074 UDP TCP
    PORT 53 UDP TCP
    PORT 80 TCP
    PORT 500 UDP
    PORT 3544 UDP
    PORT 4500 UDP
They have also asked me to change my IP address (Which is supposed to be Optimum)
No luck is finding an answer, any ideas please?
    Thanks

  • How to change the NAT type to Open on a Imac using bridged connections

Hey everyone I have a problem. I play xbox live with my friends and i just moved and dont have a wireless adapter anymore. so i have bridged connections with my imac and xbox via ethernet. It works perfectly, but the only problem is that when i connect it say that my NAT type is strict. To play with all my friends i need a open NAT type. Does anyone know how to make the NAT type on the Imac open. And i do have a D-link router model DIR-625. When i called D-link they said to port forward, i did and it still didnt work, they said it must be the fire wall on the mac, microsoft said the same thing, that it might be the fire wall. I checked the fire wall and it said "All Incoming connections are allowed".
I would really much appreciate it if someone helped me. Thank you!

Yes, most likely. Microsoft has provided a list of XBox LIVE!-compatible routers. Since the OS X Internet Sharing feature is limited, there is no way to configure port mapping or placing the XBox in a DMZ with it. Typically, you either use a compatible router or configure port mapping/DMZ for non-compatible routers.
