[Solved]Nautilus from root

Hello guys
i am a new user
i am italian
my english is not good
i have this problem/no problem
How come when I make to depart nautilus as consumer root and I go on Resources > computer I get as answered "it is not possible to show computer" nautilus cannot manage the positions computer?
screens here then her following:
as I do to get her as root
In ubuntu (the only distro with which I can make comparisons) t was enough for me to give
sudo nautilus
I would want to understand as I can always get here also a similar thing on arch if the thing is possible

This should work:
sudo dbus-launch nautilus
I'm investigating if there is a way to make this work naturally (without adding the dbus-launch).
Thanks for this jleach.  It has also been driving me crazy.  I guess us ex-Ubuntuers have a funny way of doing things.  Quick question for you (or anyone that knows), what does the 'dbus-launch' part do exactly?

  • [SOLVED] - Nautilus with Megasync invisible start

    Hi to all!
i've a strange problem with Nautilus.
I've just upgraded my distro, and after it often when i try to start Nautilus, it starts but it's invisbile! I attach an image to explain better the problem
Nautilus seems to start, indeed if the cursor is on the window i can see the borders of it!
If i select it, the "invisible" window seems to go on the foreground because the others windows are in background and i can't select these.
I've tried to start nautilus from terminal, but is the same thing, without any messages. But if i try to start nautilus with root privileges, it starts without problem.
    My actual configuration is:
    - Arch Linux - kernel 4.0.4-2-ARCH standard
    - Gnome 3.16.2
    Tnx to all!

Sometimes it crashes on my laptop or on my desktop and the only solution is to kill megasync (you can do it with quit in the extension menu) and restart nautilus. I believe the problem is produced when the other computer hasn't synchronized all files or something like that because megasync works again some hours after.
Yeah. If i kill megasync everything work.
So we have to wait the fixes.
    Thanks a lot!!

    Thanks ,
    Kranthi Kumar M.

    Hi Kranthi,
For your requirement you need only two nodes. Root Node and Result node. Use the same structure for both.
    To create Instance while search.
Create Query method with input type which has the required fields for selection criteria.
Fetch the data and create instance in the root node.
Pass the new instance key as exporting parameter form Query Method.
To Move data from ROOT to Result.
Create a action at root node.
Write a code to create new entries in Result node.
Then configure the Search UIBB and display result in List UIBB. Add button and assign the action MOVE_MAT_2_RESULT.
Create another List uibb to display data from Result node.
Connect the UIBBs using wire schema. SEARCH -> LIST(ROOT) ---> LIST(RESULT).
Give src node association for ROOT to RESULT Configuration.
    Regards,
    Sunil

  • Can't open nautilus from applications menu

I find that I can't open nautilus from applications menu any more.
In the terminal, it won't open nautilus when running 'nautilus' without specifying a location or --new-window option.
I've checked and tried to modify /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop and /usr/share/applications/nautilus-classic.desktop, but it didn't work.
The values of Exec option in the two files are as follows:
    /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop: Exec=nautilus --new-window %U
    /usr/share/applications/nautilus-classic.desktop:  Exec=nautilus --no-default-window --force-desktop
Also, I have tried to reinstall nautilus. I didn't work, either.
    Any one can help?

    ooo wrote:
Are you using gnome classic session? Or have you enabled desktop icons?
Sounds like the nautilus-classic.desktop could be getting launched  during gnome-session startup, which should happen in both of the cases above.
According to my testing, starting nautilus with 'nautilus --no-default-window --force-desktop' causes the exact behavior you're describing.
I'm using standard gnome without desktop icons, and I don't have any issues with nautilus, so disabling them would probably help, although that could be a drag if you really want desktop icons.
I still don't understand why the org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop wouldn't work though, since it has the --new-window flag. Apparently you can't even launch a new window via the right click menu item.
This could happen if gnome-shell recognizes the nautilus-classic.desktop as nautilus, and starts using it's .desktop file instead when you try to launch a new window.
If so you could probably fix this from the .desktop file somehow. I might be able to look into it later..
I'm also using standard gnome, and I have enabled desktop icons.
Disabling desktop icons makes it work.
    Thanks!
I once tried to modify nautilus-classic.desktop to Exec=natilus --new-window, but it didn't help.

  • Able to su from root to ldap accounts but account passwords come back as incorrect otherwise?

    Hi,
I've installed DSEE 11.1.1.7.2 and I set up a few test ldap clients, Solaris 10, Solaris 11, and Oracle Linux. From root on any of these boxes I can su to the ldap accounts but if I try to ssh or su - from one test account to another I get a incorrect password.
I also have a test Sun 7.0 Directory Server running and using the same Solaris 10 client I can do a ldapinit to it and authenticate fine with the test accounts. I'm using the same scripts to create accounts and passwords on both versions. I looked through the default password policies between the two and don't see any differences and I'm not getting anything showing up in the logs. Has anyone seen this type of issue before?
    Thanks

  • Redirect from ROOT

I am trying to redirect to the welcome page from ROOT. When www.mydomain.com is called from a browser, the servlet inside ROOT should redirect to another web page in webapps/welcome/index.jsp
    What I did:
    com.index.Redirect
    public class Redirect extends HttpServlet
         private final String url = "welcome/index.jsp";
public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException, ServletException
              response.sendRedirect(url);
    }web.xml:
    <servlet>
        <servlet-name>Index</servlet-name>
        <servlet-class>com.index.Redirect</servlet-class>
      </servlet>
      <servlet-mapping>
        <servlet-name>Index</servlet-name>
        <url-pattern>/index</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>What I got: The requested resource (/) is not available
    What am I missing? Thanks

"/" is not the same as "/index". The mapping from / to /index is done on the server side, not the client, so you can't assume that every hit will start with at least /index. Also if I recall correctly / has a special meaning in servlet environment configurations and may not behave as expected.
Generally (or always?) web servers and I believe servlet containers have a special configuration option to identify a home page, so be careful that you're not reinventing the wheel here.

Can any body help me finding the log for checking any trace for datafiles that are deleted from root user in hp-ux server ( and the sys log has alredy been modified by root user ).
So is there is any way to check through database or server level to check the trace of deleted datafiles files log.

Thanks, In our project we are using finace 7 application and as it does't support hot backup so we are doing cold backup of database. Through HP RSM software. And we do not have RMAN backup also. Actually i am not geeting proof to show that file has been deleted from ROOT user.I don't know what a "finace 7" application is, but your assertion that it doesn't support a hot backup makes no sense. A backup of the database, and how it is accomplished, should be of no concern to the app.
As for your statement "we don not have RMAN backup also" ... well, it looks like now you are seeing the cost of that decision. One would hope that once you get through this crisis you would take it upon yourself to institute proper database backups, because - as the dBA - your first and most important job is to insure the security of the database. I never depend on any backup scheme anyone else claims to have in place. If they want to do something they claim will backup the database, fine. But I know that when the excrement hits the ventilation system, it's MY butt on the line to recover the database, so I am d*** well going to be taking rman backups.

  • Any restriction on Mac that binaries running from root dirs like /usr/libexec/ cannot load dylib's at run-time?

    Hi all,
Is there any restriction on Mac OS X 10.6/10.7 that binaries running from root directories like /usr/libexec/ cannot load dylib's at run-time using dlopen() or NSAddImage()?
I am trying to run a binary like "sample" from a directory inside /usr/libexec/ which tries to load a dylib like "sample.dylib" which is present in the same directory as "sample".
It resulted in a segmentation fault with the following error and stack-trace.
Program received signal EXC_BAD_ACCESS, Could not access memory.
    Reason: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at address: 0x0000000000003430
    0x0000000000003430 in ?? ()
Using gdb, I could find out that the program crashed inside dlopen() (the path passed to dlopen() being a simple filename like "sample.dylib").
The dlopen() at the top of the stack-trace pasted below gets called around 10 times; it does not crash during this 2nd level dlopen() any-time.

    To summarise:
For some reason, a user wants to install a product and its binaries under /usr/libexec/.
This binary tries to dynamically load a dylib using dlopen("sample.dylib", RTLD_LAZY | RTLD_LOCAL).
It looks like, the dynamic linker then opens dependent dylibs and runs module initialisers. Then crashes when returning (which sounds like a trashed stack).
Can anyone please tell me whether there is some OS-imposed restriction or OS bug which can explain this type of behaviour?
(Note: The crash does not occur if the binary and dylib are installed under a normal user's home directory and run from there.)
    Many thanks,
    Vinay

The otool output for the binary and dylib are pasted below.

    Property Changed:
        flex/sdk/trunk/

Still struggling to understand why copying the entire root dir to a disk image and then restoring from that image did not, as expected, yield an identical system, and why I even had to reinstall after doing this.
Because there is a lot more going on under the hood than merely copying files.
The only way to do what you want is to use cloning software like Carbon Copy Cloner.
My  advice is to rescue your personal files to a regular non-TimeMachine  external drive, Zero erase the ENTIRE drive and install OS X fresh and  update, then your programs from original sources and files from backup.
Then, make a bootable clone and you can copy that as many times as you want and each one is bootable.

  • Spanning tree, forwarding from from root, how?

    Hello!
I have very simple, and  I guess, stupid question.
I understand how switches choose forwarding ports by calculation cost to root.
But how path from root to other switches is calculated?
Let's say we have just two switches, connected by two  1G links.
One of switches is root, how it will find which por use as designated?
As I see on my hardware root uses both.
But if one of links is 1G and another 10G? How root will choose which port to use?
    Thank you!

Yes, I think that link with less cost will be choosed.
But how? Is there any explanation how it works?
All manuals/examples I can find are about calculation path to root, to down from root.
Could you point me to manual with explanation how forwarding path is calculated down from root?
    Thank you!

  • Crontab won't run from root

    Hi,
    I'm on 10.3.9 with a crontab issue.
It seems crontab won't run from root. The crontab is set to run a test script every hour, 00 * * * * /Users/station3/bashscripts/cronscript1
but it won't. I can run the script from the terminal while logged in as root just fine so i dont think it's a path to the script or permission. I get no errors either, it just doesnt run.
I can run the script from the crontab of an admin user just fine.
    Any ideas?

I can see that yes, when i run cron it's in a
    different environment, but which one?
It uses the root environment. When you use sudo -s, you're getting root privileges, but keeping your regular login environment. If you want to truly become "root" with all the , you'll need to use sudo su -. That'll give you root's environment.
The simplest way to add an environment variable to a crontab is to just stick it at the top of the crontab. I always add my email address to my crontabs:
MAILTO='[email protected]'That makes it easier to control where I get the email sent if there's output of some kind. You can also add the usual ".bashrc" and ".bash_profile" files to root's home directory at /var/root, but I'm not certain how to make cron see those without rebooting the computer. Read the bash man pages, particularly the invocation section for more information.
When I run it from the crontab, several, but not all
subfolders have had thier USER permissions changed to
"system" and I cannot access them.
How do I get around that?
Try using the -p switch with cp. That's alleged by the cp man page to preserve user ID, permissions, mod time, etc.

  • [SOLVED] Nautilus restarting when I access places such as computer

Alright, so all of a sudden (it MAY have been an update, I didn't keep track) nautilus has been acting u). Whenever I access special folders, such as FTP fileshares, Computer, Trash, etc. Nautilus closes and restarts. I have tried to debug this from a terminal, but nautilus just forks into the background. I have checked the man page and found no debug switch or the like. I have tried compiling nautilus from source along with the essentials (rebooting and such) but nothing has worked so far. I have also tried deleting ~/.nautilus.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Something similar happened to me (well, using Nautilus-elementary) after messing around with themes and other stuff like source code modding. Someone from the IRC channel suggested I run pacman -Rns nautilus (using sudo, obviously) to uninstall it completely and delete these folders:
    ~/.nautilus   (empty for me)
    ~/.config/nautilus   (empty for me)
    ~/.gconf/apps/nautilus
Then I reinstalled Nautilus and everything was back to normal again. I did, however, had to go to Preferences - Tweaks and check the breadcrumbs back and a few other settings. So next time you could go to the IRC channel and ask if there are other configuration files for the package if reinstalling it doesn't do the trick.

  • [Solved] ping requires root privilages but only if OS run from RAM

I have an odd situation where I can use ping as a regular user from openbox's autostart if I run the OS from storage disks but not if I load the OS into RAM. It only works for a regular user with the OS loaded to RAM when I set the sticky bit.
Can this be a timing problem with systemd not activating a required service in time?

Yep! That's it exactly. I create a root file system archive to speed the loading into RAM. See the exact code below:
    sudo tar -vzcf /rootfs.tar.gz / --exclude={/rootfs.tar.gz,/boot/*,/var/cache/pacman/pkg/*,/dev/*,/proc/*,/sys/*,/tmp/*,/run/*,/mnt/*,/media/*,/lost+found}
Adding the --xattrs option to tar solved it.

  • [Solved]Boot from USB HDD - Root device doesn't exist. Major/minor

My problem is that the kernel seems (or starts) to load, but then I get an error:
    Root device 'UUID=1234 . . .' doesn't exist.
    Attempting to create it.
ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device "UUID=1234 . . .'
You are being dropped into recovery shell
I found a few links on the web and in the forums, but nothing that really solved it for me. The solved ones usually downgraded the kernel.  I haven't done that yet.  I thought I'd try here first.
I have a 320GB USB HDD that I have been using to experiment with different linux distros.  I have a few working successfully (OpenSUSE,Mint,Ubuntu,Debian,Fedora, etc).  I'm very new at this but have been reading a lot and putting a lot of time into it.  I have legacy grub loaded on the MBR and use the menu.lst on my openSUSE partition to boot everything.  Because the partitions for some of the distros are so far into the disk I needed to create directories on openSUSE's /boot directory to contain the kernel and initrramfs files (like /boot/fedora).  This seems to work for the other distros.  I did the same thing for Arch.
So when I installed Arch I haven't used the bootloader section of the installation.
I'm using the 2011.08.09-netinstall-i686.iso Live CD.
I tried a few things including:
    1.    changing the HOOKS in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
        a.    adding usb to the "HOOKS"
        b.    removing and adding autodetect
        c.    adding and removing "sata_sil" (although I'm not even sure if my device uses it)
    2.    changing the kernel line:
        a.    from using "UUID=" to (hd0,1) to sdb1.
        b.    added rootdelay=8
    3.    repartition all of my arch partitions using cfdisk from my Live CD and reinstall. I used gparted on OpenSUSE to do it the first time.
This may be connected. When I fdisk -l from the Arch Live CD I get extra data and an error for each of my arch partitions (and only my arch partitions):
Disk does't contain a valid partition table
When I fdisk -l from OpenSUSE I don't get the data paragraphs or errors about the arch partitions?
    Here is my /etc/fstab:
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0

    And my menu.lst:

I'm IN!  Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
The arch system didn't like the identifier I was using for the root partition. By looking at the /dev/disk/by-id while the arch system was running, I could see what the system wanted me to call the partition.  So after the system error'd-out and I was in the recovery shell at the [ramfs /] prompt:
    # ls -lF /dev/disk/by-id > by-id.txt
    # vi by-id.txt
I could have used any of the identifiers listed in the by-id (there were 3), by-uuid(1), by-label(1) or by path(1). I tried them all. I had to write these down by hand because it is a ram filesystem.
The article that finally got me there is:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pe … ice_naming
Anyway my openSUSE grub menu.lst ended up like this:
    ####arch on sda10 - legacy grub
    title ARCH
    root (hd0,1)
    kernel /boot/arch/vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/510bb601-13c1-46ec-87c0-a800dd2efb8b ro rootdelay=8 rootfstype=ext4
    initrd /boot/arch/initramfs-linux.img
    savedefault
    boot
It's easy once you: 1. beat your head against the wall
                        2. read further
                3. repeat 1 and 2
    Back to the "Beginner's Guide",4 Post-Installation.  Yikes!
