[SOLVED] Network shares not shown in File Explorers

Hi.
I absolutely love Arch and I am big fan because it forces me to learn...
Time to start noob linux questions , I am sorry...
So....
In any GUI file manager I am not able to see most of my network shares... Till this point I was mainly using Mint, Ubuntu etc and obviously everything comes preconfigured, so I never had this problem.
I have installed Manjaro on same machine just to see if I will have same problem, but there I am able to browse network shares on Nautilus and Nemo out of the box. On Arch I can find only local host and one other share (as on the picture).
Initially I have thought that this is due to network configuration but I have checked with
smbtree -U
and I get:
WORKGROUP
\\WDMYCLOUD WD My Cloud
\\WDMYCLOUD\Public Public
\\WDMYCLOUD\BrightSide
\\WDMYCLOUD\Aneta
\\WDMYCLOUD\Piotr
\\WDMYCLOUD\IPC$ IPC Service (WD My Cloud)
\\ROUTER Router
\\MINTSERVER MintServer server (Samba, Linux Mint)
\\MINTSERVER\SamsungPrinter Samsung Printer on Mint Server
\\MINTSERVER\print$ Printer Drivers
\\MINTSERVER\DyskDomowy1
\\MINTSERVER\IPC$ IPC Service (MintServer server (Samba, Linux Mint))
\\KOMPUTER_MADZI
So Samba is discovering just fine...
I tried to research on it but no luck so far, maybe I am looking for wrong thing.
Can someone point me out what I am missing here? Should I enable some sort of service to be able to see and browse those shares in file explorers?
Thanks for any kind tip

  • Windows 8.1 Network Share 0x8007003b Error Copying Files

    Hi All,
I'm having an issue when copying files from a Windows network share. If the file is above 5MB it will start copying and then after a minute or two I will get an error such as:
    Interrupted Action
An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.
Error 0x8007003B: An unexpected network error occurred.
The network share is in a different office and is accessible over a point-to-point VPN, so the connection is not that fast.
But before everyone tells me to start diagnosing the router and or VPN please take note of the following:
My colleague who is running Windows 7 can copy files from the network share fine
If I run a Windows 7 VM on my Windows 8.1 laptop I can copy the files across fine
I also know it isn't an issue with this particular file share. I set up a little lab, where I had one VM which had a shared folder and 2 other client VMs one running Windows 7 and one running Windows 8.1. I limited the bandwidth to the two client
VMs to a similar speed we see across our VPN. The result was that the Windows 8.1 failed with the same error above, whereas the Windows 7 copied fine.
There is also a noticeable difference visually when copying using Windows 8.1 and Windows 7:
Windows 7 - The progress bar progresses smoothly giving the current speed and estimated time remaining
Windows 8.1 - The progress bar progresses in a jumpy fashion. E.g. it shows no progress, then after a minute it jumps and shows 16% progress, then shows no further progress, then jumps by another 18%. There is no estimated time remaining.
I ran Wireshark to investigate what was going on at the network layer. I see the following behaviour:
Windows 8.1 - The file is copying fine then all of a sudden there are a lot of TCP dupack packets. After which the Windows 8.1 client sends a RST packet and then the error pops up.
Windows 7 - The file is copying fine then you also see a load of TCP dupack packets, however no error is displayed and it continues copying fine.
I'd appreciate any help with this I'm hoping there are some settings I can change to make Windows 8.1 behave more like Windows 7!
FYI originally posed here (but was advised to ask on Technet) - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-files/windows-81-network-share-0x8007003b-error-copying/300bc9a4-597b-402a-b885-9dd6f6fb51a2

    Hi MeipoXu,
Sorry, it has taken me so long to reply. I thought I had subscribed to receive updates on this thread, but I didn't see anything!

    To answer your original questions.
Do you mean the file below 5 MB will copy fine ?
5MB is not a hard limit. If the file is small enough it will copy before it errors out. A file of around 5MB or so fails with an error.
Have you tried to copy the files from another Windows 8.1 machine (This will help us to verify whether the issue is casued by the specific machine)?Have you tried to copy another file from the network share to have a check ?
Yes I've tried from another Windows 8.1 machine and have the same behaviour. It is the same with different files from the network share. And the same with different network shares.
I am seeing nothing in the event viewer when the error occurs. I do not believe this to be a VPN issue because I can recreate this situation perfectly. As I mentioned in the original post- I
also know it isn't an issue with this particular file share. I set up a little lab, where I had one VM which had a shared folder and 2 other client VMs one running Windows 7 and one running Windows 8.1. I limited the bandwidth to the two client VMs to a similar
speed we see across our VPN. The result was that the Windows 8.1 failed with the same error above, whereas the Windows 7 copied fine.
Basically, I had virtual machines all on the same local network. One virtual machine was hosting a file share with files on it. I created one Windows 7 VM and one Windows 8.1 VM. Using VMWare Workstation you can limit the network bandwidth to the VMs. When
I did not limit the network bandwidth I could copy all files of all sizes fine. However, when I limit the network bandwidth to a speed of around 30-50KBps, the Windows 8.1 VM fails to copy files with the same error. But Windows 7 VM copies the files fine.
The point of limiting the bandwidth in this way is to create a similar scenario to that I see when connecting over the VPN.
This all leads me to believe there is some sort of issue with copying files from fileshares over slow connections using Windows 8.1.
    Cheers,
    Zak

  • Problem with NFS file adapter using a network share as source of files

    Hello,
I have set up a sender cc with NFS format file adapter, with at the source directory a network share (
server\sharename ). The share is on another system and not mapped to a local drivename, but it is open for everybody.
The problem is, the adapter seems to not pick up the files in the directory, so there must be something I'm overlooking.
    - Both servers run on Windows
    - Share is available normally and open for everybody for all actions (including the SAPServiceSID user)
    - Files themselves are okay. If I put a file on a local drive and make the source directory the local drive instead of the network path, the file gets processed correctly
    - Because of the need for a file completion check, FTP is not an option
Does anybody know what is going wrong, or what I could check for trace / logging info on possible cause of the problem?

    Hi,
While using NFS mode you are supposed to put the file on XI server directory NOT to a common share directory of any other machine. And this is the reason your adapter in not picking the file.
You can upload the file on XI server directory by using the tcode "SXDA_TOOLS", morevere you can check the file on the same directory with tcode "AL11". It is otherway-around, you can first select or chose the dir by AL11 and then put the file in the same dir by tcode SXDA_TOOLS.
If you need more info about SXDA_TOOLS, let me know.

  • In Nautilus, mounted network shares not showing up right away

I've noticed a strange problem recently (last couple of weeks) where my mounted network shares don't always show up right away in Nautilus (side bar or desktop- like they used to). For example, if I manually mount an NFS share in CL to /media/files it won't pop up in Nautilus right away like it used to. It will only show up after several minutes or if I plug in a thumb drive to trigger it to refresh. Also, when my computer is in suspend and I resume it, all predefined network share mounts in fstab that are indeed mounted won't be present in Nautilus upon resuming from suspend (they did before).
I'm not sure where the problem lies as Nautilus or dbus haven't been upgraded in the repositories recently. I tried looking at recently updated packages but I can't pin it on one that would be causing the problem. I'd like to get an idea of what packages are affected before submitting a bug report. If anyone has any idea on the package I can downgrade no problem and test this further.

Figured out the last filesystem upgrade from Decemeber is causing this. Bug posted- FS#27851.

  • Crawled files on network share is missing certain file properties

I added a network share as a content source to my SharePoint Server 2010 Search feature and successfully crawled the content of an image repository. All worked well except I specifically set some tags (keywords) on the files prior to the crawl but the tag
property of the file does not seem to get indexed.
I was looking at the possibility of mapping this property under the Search Administration but I am still not sure how to do this. Is it possible and how can it be accomplished?
    Thanks.
    Ken

    Hi Ken,
Are you talking about the tag property for JPEG image?
I searched in the Crawled Properties in SharePoint 2010 Search Metadata Properties, there are only eight OOB crawled properties relevant to Image without Tag property. So we can use OOB properties.
If you need to have this property, you might need to build your own IFilter for such property.

  • Network shares not showing up in finder osx Lion

The shares on my network are not showing after I tried this SMBup. I tried to follow this guide but things didn't turn up as I was expecting them to work.http://knowledgebase.hsti.com/re-installing-smb-on-mac-os-x-lion-10-7-x
This is the official website where in the middle of the page there is a note stating that "SMBUp installs Samba, which in turn replaces Apple’s OS X’s native netbios and SMB services. This means that while connecting to servers from the Finder remains functional, the Finder won’t be able to “browse” network services and servers from the network won’t show up in the Finder’s sidebar. Be advised."http://eduo.info/apps/smbup
So i uninstall the samba restart the machine and now my shares don't show in the left side pane of finder. How can I get them back. Is the netbios service disabled

Open Terminal and issue the following command
    ps aux | grep netbios[d]
if you get a line similar to this
    _netbios          45   0,0  0,0  2477156   2456   ??  SNs   9:14am   0:02.44 /usr/sbin/netbiosd
then the daemon is running, otherwise issue the following command to start netbiosd permanently
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.netbiosd.plist

  • Network shares not showing in the sidebar

Since ugrading our clients Macs to Lion, any network shares that are managed using workgroup manager are no longer showing up in the users sidebar, and if I try to drag the share to the sidebar it stays for a second then disappears ( the sidebar preferences are set to show the shares)
But if I eject the share and re-connect then it does appear in the sidebar as expected, and ideas how to make it show up on first connection without having to disconnect and reconnect?

Thanks, I did delete the file several times, restating after each attempt. I also tried from guest and other user account - exact same.
Curiously,... the 'shared" and connected devices have started to randomly reappear. I know there are devices connected all the time. So I dont know whats going on.
    Bring back SL.

  • Network shares Not giving the prompt.

We have a share created on a Domain environment but when users try to access over the network it do not ask for the credentials and give me an error message
You do not have permission to access \\lyncarchive.iyogi.net\Lync-Archive. Contact your network administrator to request access.
For more information about permissions, see Windows Help and Support
I have checked the credential manager and removed all stored usernames and passwords but still get the same error message.
    Any help is appreciated....

    Hi,
Did you access the network share from a domain member server or a non-domain workstation? If from a domain member server, it does not ask for the credentials when user does not have permissions to access the network share. If from a non-domain workstation,
please check if you can using the following settings on Windows server 2012 to achieve this.
Go to Control Panel > Network and sharing center > Change advanced sharing settings > Enable Turn Off password protect sharing option

  • When students save their work to the network share they become .tmp files and are unrecoverable.

    Hello,
The student in our photoshop class have run into an issue when trying to save files. They appear to save fine, however, when they go to open them the files read as .tmp and will not open with Photoshop. Please help.

This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Why is a network share not showing up in time machine settings when on the wifi?

    Hi all,
I am currently trying to set up time machine for my Macbook air. I have connected an external harddrive to the network router and made it available as a network share. I have both read and write access to the drive, when mounted as a an SMB volume and while connect to the network via Wifi. However, when opening time machine settings and trying to select the backup volume, the network drive doesn't show up.
    What's wrong?
    Kind regards,
    Martin

Time Machine cannot backup to a SMB network volume.
Time Machine may also have problems backing up to AFP volumes on some network attached storage devices (NAS).

  • Network shares not showing up in finder

This one has me stumped. I have a 3 computer set up, macbook 10.5.8, imac 10.6.6 and a macbook pro 10.5.8. From both the macbook and iMac I am able to see all other machines on the network and connect with no problem. On the pro I cannot see any of the other machines on the network. I can connect to them using command K and typing in that information, but under shared in the finder it doesn't list anything. I've poured through everything I can think of and every machine is identical in setup. Same workgroup, same firewall setup, same share set up, same everything. Can't figure this one out. I've also had issues with the pro disappearing from the other machine's shared section after time has gone by with no activity. The pro is not in a sleep state at these times and even if I go back to the machine and get it fully running again the connection is lost until I do a restart. FYI all of the machines are in the same vicinity and connecting to the same router so I don't think connectivity is an issue. I don't know if it's related because I haven't had this problem in about 2 weeks and I think I figured it out but the pro was having connection problems a few weeks ago every so often. When I would turn it on it would self assign an ip address. I tracked that problem down to a router security issue and believe I have fixed it but thought I would include that information. Before I figured out how to fix the problem a short term fix was to take the file from Library/Preferences/System Configuration and trash it and then do a restart. The system would rebuild the file and the issue would be taken care of temporarily. Don't think this has anything to do with my current problem either but thought I would include it just in case. What did I miss?

Open Terminal and issue the following command
    ps aux | grep netbios[d]
if you get a line similar to this
    _netbios          45   0,0  0,0  2477156   2456   ??  SNs   9:14am   0:02.44 /usr/sbin/netbiosd
then the daemon is running, otherwise issue the following command to start netbiosd permanently
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.netbiosd.plist

  • Leopard to Leopard Network Shares Not Working

I see numerous threads about Leopard shares and Windows. However, I do not see any threads about issues with Leopard to Leopard shares. I have three Macs in the house and one Windows XP box. The Windows XP box works perfectly fine seeing and sharing with all the Leopard machines. The issue is, my PPC Mac mini, C2D MacBook Pro, and C2D MacBook are not playing nice with each other.
    Here is the setup:
PPC Mac Mini running Leopard has a FW External Drive connected to it and is connected wired.
C2D MacBook and C2D MacBook Pro are connected via airport on a 2Wire Gateway/Router my ISP provides.
I setup to share specific folders on the internal Mac mini HD and the root FW drive connected to it. When trying to connect on either MacBook or MacBook Pro, I do not have permissions for the users setup on the PPC Mac mini. When I go back to check the settings on the Mac mini, Leopard is not keeping all of the shared folder settings and I have to continually re-add them only to have the same thing happen again.
Am I losing my mind or is this a major bug with Leopard? Is there any way to successfully share out drives to individual users on the network?

    Same issue; I share my Documents folder and everyone can see the folders below it but have NO access ot most of the sub folders (the minus symbol). The one exception is a folder "Civilization IV Demo";
    Permissions:
    Documents (MAIN FOLDER):
    tpfannes(ME) read and write
    everyone read and write
Sub folders (sub folders under Documents)
    Civilization IV Demo (works):
    tpfannes(ME) read and write
    everyone read only
    staff read only
    Data Folder (No workie)
    tpfannes(ME) read and write
    everyone no access
I did a erase and install with Leopard and restored the files from a backup using Apples Backup utility.
I could probably get to a terminal window and modify permissiosn these via. chmod but I'm not all that comfortable with that.
    Any ideas????

  • Network machines not shown properly in JFileChooser

Hi i am using JFileChooser for selecting user files.
The problem is when i open Network neighbourhood (windows os) in the chooser
It is showing all the NN machines as folders ,
with same name. i cannot distinguish which folder is from which machine.
It shows all the folders as 'Microsoft Network' 'Microsoft Network'...
Any idea how to display actual systemname for NN machines.

I have a similar problem, but the solution above does not work for me: in the time, the minutes are displayed as if it was a decimal number. For example, 18:00 is displayed as 18:0, with just one 0.
This is particularly bad if the time is say 18:01 because then it is displayed as 18:1, which clearly leads to confusion, as it could be 18:10.
I have checked the time settings under international, but it makes no difference. Further, the problem is in all the views, i.e. day, week or month.
Any help would be most appreciated.

  • Smb share not displaying all files in finder

When accessing a non-windows (IBM iseries) smb share, I will only see 30 objects. Windows PCs will see all of the available objects.
Is there a solution for this problem?

    Hi,
Me too, I am encountering the same problem, not with Windows XP but with a virtual Windows NT machine.
I am connecting to an SMB share on a Unix server running under Sun Solaris (vers. 8) on which the Windows NT machine is emulated by running PC Netlink (version 2.0 Rev=rr24).
Viewing share folders by clicking them via Finder, I see only a maximum of 30 entries (folders and/or files) in each sub folder, though many of them contain dozens or hundreds of objects.
When I view those folders via the command line in the Terminal, I see even less: only 14 objects appear. For each sorting mode the same 14 objects are visible.
When I copy a file from my local harddisk into such a folder, it disappears immediately after copying. When I copy the same file a second time into the same folder, a message pops up rejecting the copying because another file with that name already exists. Together with that message the "hidden" first copy now appears in the finder window, only to disappear again when the warning message is clicked away.
I do see all objects when I mount the shares on a PC or on my old PB G3, running Classic MacOS 9.2.2. And I did see all objects before I migrated from MacOS X 10.3.9 to MacOS X 10.4.10.
The names of the "hidden" objects are all OK (neither beginning nor ending with a dot, etc.).
I am curious if somebody found a solution for the prob, or what workaround you are using.
    Thank you
    Fred

  • [SOLVED] network is not detected r8169 module is not loaded

    Hey there,
I have problems to get my archlinux server running, it has no network.
It's a server at kimsufi so I only can chroot in the new installation.
It looks like the module 'r8169' isn't loaded at start, so it has no network.
After adding '/etc/modules-load.d/r8169.conf' with 'r8169' inside (w/o quotes) the journalctl says:
systemd-modules-load[92]: Failed to lookup alias 'r8169': Function not implemented
The installation is up-to-date, newest kernel.
I hope you have some ideas how to get that module loaded.
    Greetings
edit: I tried it just now again and it worked atm. If network will work completely, I will mark this thread as solved.

I'm sorry that I opened the thread.
I had built myself a kernel with kdump and had set debug and loglevel=7 parameters.
Either one of the parameter was bad or my buildprocess was bad.
Now (with the original kernel) I don't get that error and the module is loading fine.
I have (after about a month) the server up and running.
At least I got some new experience.
