(Solved) new install on jfs filesystem fails with vi

I just tried to do a fresh install from the 201307 image and found out that the colon in the vi package will not download onto an jfs filesystem.
Sad since jfs has always been my choice since using mythtv package. It seems to work faster especially deleting large files.
I guess it's onto ext4 then.
Not sure if this should be reported as a bug. Just to inform
cheers

FWIW, I don't even install vi, as I don't use it.  I have never tried this with a package group before, but what if you do "pacman -S base --ignore vi" (or with pacstrap).
Not a bug. Pick a better filesystem. We've been through this before.

  • "BCP Commit Failed" New Install On Windows 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 R2

I am installing a new Netweaver install on a virtual machine loaded with Windows 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. The install gets to the "Import ABAP" phase and just hangs. SAPINST says it is still running, but there is no activity to suggest there is anything going on. There are no errors in the main logs, but after digging a little I did find these errors in the SAPSDIC.log file.

Anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on? I can't find anyone with this exact same error. And this is our first attempt at installing a system with Windows 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. All of our other Windows SAP systems are on Windows 2003 and SQL Server 2005 and we're in the process of upgrading - this being the first system.

  • [Solved] Questions about defragging JFS filesystem

    Hi all,
Just want to understand defrag JFS filesystem correctly before doing it on my computer.
I'm using the latest Arch Linux with KDE and have 4 partitions.
    sda1 = boot = ext2 = 500MB
    sda2 = root = jfs = 15GB
    sda3 = swap = 6GB
    sda4 = home = jfs = 50GB
How do I correctly and safely defrag root/home partitons?
Last edited by MrRoberts (2012-09-23 10:39:02)

I am pretty sure that since JFS is ported from OS/2, the defrag feature has not yet made it.  But with any filesystem of any kind, you can always use the backup/restore method.  Simply use your favorite tool to make a backup, recreate the filesystem, and then move everything back.  I personally use rsync to backup some of my stuff already, so it makes sense that I simply reverse it.
This will also allow switching filesystems.  I know you are not using btrfs, but here is an example of how to use rsync or tar to do this.  I think the jfs arch wiki page shows how you might do it with dd.  I like to do rsync or tar because with *nix everything is a file, so you can simply move all the files, and you have a restored working filesystem.
BTW, if your disk is an SSD, jfs is not the best option.  Only ext4 and btrfs support TRIM at this time.  Also, if you actually depend on that swap space for more than just hibernation, the further from the center (beginning) of the disc you go, the more degraded the poerformance becomes.  If you are only using swap for hibernation, it may be better to just use a swap file.

  • [SOLVED] New Install of Gnome 3.2 doesn't feel like loading

    Greetings,
Before making this post, I have spent the majority of the day trying to solve this issue. I have switched from nvidia drivers to nouvela (sp?) drivers, incase that was the issue. I have scoured google, arch-wiki, and the forums until my eyes have bled. I have dug through the xsession-errors log to search out any missing components that might be causing this... but to no avail. If anything, trying to run and try Gnome 3.2 has made me feel like a complete idiot, who has obviously learnt nothing after years of using linux. So, I come here hoping that some one can point me to the solution my brain cannot itself come up with.
    Here the situation:
I have been running KDE4 for quite some time happily. I have ran Gnome 3 back in its beginning days succesfully as well, but that was an older, now dead, pc. Having seen some neat little things about the new Gnome 3.2, I got an itch to give it a try. So, I go and follow the Gnome article on the excellent arch wiki- installing both gnome and gnome extras, letting it grab everything, change from kdm to gdm, and reboot.
Well, it gives me the old gdm I remember from the early gnome 3 days (wasn't this changed) despite it showing that it is GDM 3.2 via pacman. It shows my user name, lets me put my password, and shows the stripped background. One thing to note is that the cursor remains a clock face, never changing to a pointer.
I log in, choosing GNOME, all that remains is the wallpaper, with the clockface cursor, no pointer. I go take the kids to the bus stop, come back apx. 20 min. later, no change.
Ok, bug crushing time right? So I go through the steps. I make sure that gnome shell is indeed installed. I remove any config files (there weren't any), remove gnome shell, reinstall. No go. I rinse and repeat, but removing & reinstalling different things, such as GDM, and even gnome completely. No go.
Hopping into pekwm, I search. I make copies of the xsession-errors each time, and load them in pekwm after a reboot, looking through with pacman by myside to make sure I have any possible missing files. And finally after failure after failure I give up, and come here.
So, here's my xsession-errors log. Please, if anyone can help, or even offer any kind of suggestion that might spark something in my brain to get me going in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it. If this thread needs moved, merged, etc, please do so... I've searched the forums, but now my brain is numb, so yeah...

Ok, I guess all it took was for me to post this to wake up and be able to solve the issue.
It is simple really. I just needed to re-install libltdl.
So, for those searching, if you get this similar problem,
    pacman -S libltdl
is what solved it for me.

  • [SOLVED] new install hangs at fsck

    Hi all,
I am trying my first install on the new installation media 10-6.  Everything seemed to go smoothly until I rebooted.  Now boot hangs at Filesystem is clean. The full message I am stuck on is below.

I ran into something similar yesterday.. I'm not sure it's the same problem but here's what I tried and found.
*After an unsucessful boot, restart your computer and boot off the installation media
*Mount your paritions on /mnt as you would for a fresh install.
*Run arch-chroot /mnt to chroot into your installation.
*Now you can run journalctl to see all messages logged during boot. There will be a ton of them, so hit 'G' to scroll to the bottom.
*Look for messages in red or white.
Now, in my case I found some errors from nouveau and dri. After those errors, the logs went on to show that the system fully booted, although I never got past the fsck step on the screen. A bit of searching found posts about problems with nouveau and dual graphics cards (I have on-board GPU + a Nvidia card). Some posts mentioned adding the nomodeset option to your kernel line in grub. Doing this allowed me to boot up, and after installing the nvidia driver, I was able to remove this option and still boot.
    Hope this helps.
    Edit: grub config with nomodeset
echo 'Loading Linux core repo kernel ...'
    linux /vmlinuz-linux root=UUID=e7975760-f032-438a-b38d-93bc03246e96 ro nomodeset

  • SCCM 2012 - Task Seq - Install Lenovo AMT software - Failing with 2147500037 (80004005)

    Hi there
Wondering is anyone has had any issues installing Intel Management Engine 10.0 software via a SCCM 2012 task sequence?
We have a number of older laptops which we build via a Windows 7 task sequence from SCCM 2012. As part of the install each laptop gets the appropriate version of the Intel ME software. All well and good.
We now have a new model to build (Lenovo T440) and for some reason the latest available version of Intel ME 10.0 software keeps failing in the task sequence with a 2147500037 (80004005) error.
This can mean different things but often means a permissions issue. Not sure what the permissions issue could be.
This software is installed at the same stage as previous versions of the same software are installed for older laptop models. Same install command too, SetupME.exe -s as per the document which comes with the software (in previous versions it is Setup.exe
not SetupME.exe but don't imagine the different file name is the problem).
I will try an older version but really we want to keep up with the latest available versions.
Anyone had problems installing this Intel ME v10.0 software via a SCCM 2012 task sequence?
    Best regards
    John

Does the install provide any logging? Does execmgr.log show any other info?
Per the readme, it should be setup.exe.

  • New DP on winsrv2012r2 - TS failing with error 0x80091007

    Hi All,
I need your advice about a really weird issue. We replaced a 2008r2 file server which was also a DP in one of our remote sites it was working well. The new server is on 2012r2 and I reinstalled the DP on it. I need to precise that all of them are are
hosted on VMware 5.1 (esxi-vsphere). I distributed all the needed packages on this newly created dp and tried to setup a vm to test the task sequence and I noted that the win download was very very quick (3-4mins for a quite big wim
file 24gb). in my tests all attempts failed at the end of TS when applying system image with the error code 0x80091007.  I need to precise that I choose the E1000 Nic in VMware and 4gb of memory so normally there should not be any issue. I tried also
with a vmxnet3 nic but it wasn't detected at the beginning of TS even if my boot image contains the VMware drivers ..(that's one of the weird point) . But the weirdest point is that I asked one of my colleague to give it a try and at his first attempt he was
successful using exactly the same vm I tried to setup ... but all is other attempts failed afterwards.  Do you know what could be the cause ?  Could it be linked to the fact that the dp was setup on 2012r2 when the primary site and all others sccm
servers are on 2008r2. Also our forest functional level is still on 2003 so am wondering if that could be the explanation.
Here are all the logs (failed and success one ) which were all from the same dp on 2012r2:http://www27.zippyshare.com/v/83975219/file.html
So after trying all ideas (Redistributing the images on the dp.. validating them... even recreated the dp completely I decided to setup a dedicated server on 2008r2 and it worked at first imaging attempt but I would like to understand what was the cause
if possible that's why I would like to get your advice on that. thx in advance. best regards.

  • [SOLVED] New install does not see SSD drive

Ok, I have a DFI motherboard which at first did not recognize my new Intel SSD drive I have installed. After updating the BIOS, it now correctly recognizes it. However when I run the 2009.2 cd and try to prepare the drives, it does not show any drives listed?
    /sbin/fdisk -l
does not show any drives either so it looks like arch cant see any installed HD's which makes since, but the motherboard does show the new Intel SSD as a Sata drive right under my DVD player?
    Any help?
Edit: I hooked up my old Seagate drive and it shows up fine. Any idea on why this SSD is not playing nice?
Solved: I have come to the conclusion this has nothing to do with the Arch install, but is simply a hardware issue with my motherboard. I installed the SSD drive in my wifes pc, it seen the ssd as a sata drive while booting, it seen it when arch was initializing, it seen it when I did a fdisk, and when i finally tried to install, it was there too!!
So there must be some issue with my old DFI MB. I will work on that or upgrade..Thanks to everyone who helped out...

I assume the SSD has the same connector as the motherboard and the cable can be reversed end to end to test for performance.
I use a multimeter to verify the presence of power to the device.
Sata cables are known to be flaky.
Throttle devices use 5vdc power from USB connector and are connected to esata cables at the same time since sata ports do not supply power.  The connections for throttle are on opposite ends of the device.
I am not familiar with the SSD power setup but assume it is 5vdc as well.
    No other suggestions here..................
Yes, the cable should be able to be reversed as the ssd drives are identical compared to normal sata drives in respect to the cable connections: one sata data connection and one power. I will try some different cables and see if that helps. I did try a new port on the mb which did not work, and when i used the current cables on my older seagate drive it worked fine

    Hello Skip Grantham,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.

  • Installing Framework 3.5 fails with error code 0x800F081F - default solutions don't work

The installation of .NET framework 3.5 fails on Windows 10 Tech preview. I tried it using:
    1. = Programs and features - using Windows Update - results in error 0x800F081F
    2. = using the local media with DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:d:\sources\sxs - it reports in de dism log that the feature NetFx3 is an unknown feature (with an elevated account)
    3. = changing the group policy (it is an AD connected system) using the steps as described in the following technet: dn482065
    4. = using the installer dotnetfx35.exe - it also brings up the 'programs and features' window with the same results as 1.
    Any ideas? Regards,
     Mike

    Hi mv4neck,
Error code 0x800F081F means that we can’t find a source for the files we need to install the feature you’re requesting.
In you first way, you use Windows update to download related component files, so I suggest you run dism command to restore system health:
    Windows Update error 0x800F081F
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/windows-update-error-0x800f081f
Make sure you have good network condition.
    Here is my situation:
For your second way, based on my observation, there is no such component files in 9841 DVD\source\sxs folder.
    So this command wouldn’t work:
    DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:d:\sources\sxs
In the meantime, by default, the install.wim doesn’t include NetFx3:

  • New MBP 15", Windows installation fails with error 0x80070570 or 0x80070570D

    Hey guys!
I finally got a new MBP a few weeks ago, and I wanted to install a Windows partition for some games. I have tried this with several different windows copies (both legal and illegal, and both of windows 7 and windows 8), but to none avail. The exact error message I keep getting is:
    Windows 7:
"Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or mossing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the application. Error code: 0x80070570"
    Windows 8:
"Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the application. Error code: 0x80070570D"
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I've let the bootcamp utility put the disk images on the USB. As I mentioned before, I got the Windows installation images through various legal and illegal sources and made several attempts with each and evere disk image, so that should not be the cause.

It fails when I run it in the admin cmd window, with message 4 - Error: ROM file ROMID is not compatible with existing BIOS ROMID. Any idea why I'm getting this failure?
Has anyone successfully applied the lastest X700 downloads?

I am also having this same exact issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated Lenovo.

  • [SOLVED]new install flashplugin-prerelease not working

    Hi,
I installed arch on my new Acer aspire one last night, I couldn't get flash to start working.  I'm trying to stick to 64bit applications, so I decided to install the prerelease from AUR.  It's installed but for some reason Firefox, Chromium can't find it.  I've also installed gecko-media-player which is also not being recognized by firefox.  about:plugins just tells me no plugins are found.  I guess there's something missing but I can't find an answer anywhere.  Help!

Yes I did, I checked around a bit seems like /usr/lib/mozilla/  had permissions set to 700 setting it to 755 fixed the problem.  Hmm, looks like starting firefox as root first sets the permission to 700.
    It's a bug.
