[Solved] New Kernel Update, 3.15.2-1 not booting

After an update to the kernel, which is 3.15.2-1, I'm now not able to boot.  It hangs on Realtime IRQ line which I believe is from the rtirq script in AUR.  After disabling the rtirq via `systemctl disable rtirq` it now hangs at a `Has reached Graphics`.
Anyone else having issues booting with the new kernel?

You will need to provide more information. Your machine is booting, but X is not starting or your login manager isn't working.
Provide details about your setup; DM, DE etc, what else was included in that upgrade, etc...
Not a Kernel issue, moving to NC...

Same laptop here, I get this error, but when I run:

    With:
    DRI_PRIME=0 glxspheres64
    I get ~60 fps.
So the issue just disappears?? If so I will try this..

The bug report seems to be active, so we will have to wait for a while for the patch... Although there is a proposed patch that seems to remove the UVD error, have you tried it??
I quote a comment "Nopes. It makes the UVD errors go away, but the boot still gets stuck at the same point. Everything hangs up, requiring me to do a hard reboot."
The patch did not fix the bug. Honestly, the bug has been there since kernel 3.11.

I find that changing some settings in your syncing options will get syncing working again, like enabling Manually manage music and videos.

I certainly hope that you have warranty leftover, otherwise you're likely looking at out-of-pocket system board replacement.

  • New PlayBook update 2.0.0.7971 not working properly

The new update on blackberry PlayBook is not working properly.  The video store and podcasts are erroneously restricted to Puerto Rico, a US territory.  Please do something ASAP.

    Hi,
This is defenitely strange - if you click on the "Login" link, you should be prompted for the plain vanilla SSO Username & Password. I have faced this problem infrequently only in Netscape 7.1.
Did you try clearing the Browser Cache ? Which is the browser you are using ?

  • After updating Airport software, Macbook will not boot

I see others have updated with the new Airport software without incident, but not me.
I just ran software update to install the Airport update (hoping it would cure the problem I've had -- and other users as well -- with the connection dropping every 5 minutes with Linksys routers [check the Airport discussion board for much discussion of this]).
After installing, upon restart my Macbook will not boot fully. I get the Apple symbol, then the spinning gear symbol, then a light blue screen and that's it. After a while the fan comes on.
Call it the light blue screen of death.
All was working fine until the update.
I have boot camp and I can boot into Windows.
I have tried removing the battery and resetting the PRAM. No help.
Sigh... Applecare is closed so I cannot call until Friday morning. Anyone have any suggestions of what I can try?
I have my Mac hard disk backed up from a few days ago using Super Duper on a USB drive but I am reluctant to try booting from it as I fear corrupting the drive. Unfortunately I don't have my Mac system CDs with me as I am away from home at the moment.
I just switched to the Mac 6 weeks ago after 3.5 years with a Dell laptop. Never had a single problem like this in all that time. But I still like my Mac.
    PD

Well, I spoke too soon. Last night I was able to start up as described above, but this morning when I tried to start it did not even get to the Mac symbol. It just hung at a dark blue screen for several minutes.
Tried restarting with the shift key held down but it would not go into safe mode. Just the dark blue screen.
    Resetting PRAM made it startup.
But I'm pretty nervous about this.
So, is there a way in Mac OS X to roll back to the system before the update? In Windows XP this is very simple under System Restore. I have the impression OS X doesn't have this feature and won't until next year with Time Machine.
And I see now I'm not the only user with this problem.
    PD

  • After latest Mavericks update my MacBook Pro will not boot up

After using software update, I believe it said it was a security update. My laptop will not progress past a screen that says " Setting up your Mac...".  I have tried holding down the power to restart but it always stops at the same place. I am using a MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2009) running mavericks.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • I did new itunes update and now it will not sync my phone

I updated my itunes yesterday and now it will not sync our iphone  any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hello xtremejoe
I find that changing some settings in your syncing options will get syncing working again, like enabling Manually manage music and videos.

  • IPhone4s is stuck on screen with itunes imblum and plug into icon to download new itunes update from computer but will not do anything else...totally froze up....

at wits end..  don't know what else to do...  I already tried to reset phone and still goes back to same screen

Hello crawford1968, your efforts are appreciated! Was there any physical or water damage on the phone? The factory reset is the last resort option. Have you tried letting the phone's battery drain and then charge the device to see if the power on will respond? We can definitely look into replacement options since the device is not responding. • New MAC Mini w/OSX Lion - will not boot from USB or external optical drive when attempting to use BootCamp to install Windows 7?

The University recently purchased 6 brand new MAC minis for deployment in classrooms I support.  I am attempting to create a dualk--boot environment comparable to our existing computer systems, only these machines wil be running MAC OS X Lion and Windows 7.  After following the procedures outlined in the BootCamp on-screen prompts, and attempting a few techniques I found in the tech support user-base, I am still unable to get the MAC mini to boot up from the USB flash drive, or from an external optical drive, so that I can complete the installation of Windows 7.  When using the Boot option key at start-up, all devices are displayed suggesting that they are being properly recognized, however the computer boots to a black screen with an error message indicating that "No bootable devices are  found - press any key to continue." I am able to boot into the computer's internal drive, but not from any external devices.  I fully expected that the semi-automated BootCamp procedure properly prepares the USB device for booting, and for installing the Windows 7 OS.

Meh, with the price they take for a drive in Denmark, I don't think it's worth it... They take around 160 $ for the drive (that's the cheapest MacBook drive I could find), and I am not even sure that's the one I need.
