[SOLVED]nm-applet fails to launch after update

Hi,
I've just updated NetworkManager and network-manager-applet:
[2012-10-31 20:16] upgraded networkmanager (0.9.6.0-2 -> 0.9.6.4-1)
[2012-10-31 20:16] upgraded network-manager-applet (0.9.6.2-1 -> 0.9.6.4-1)
After reboot nm-applet fails to launch with the following error:
** (nm-applet:6657): WARNING **: Could not initialize NMClient /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager: Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.48" (uid=1000 pid=6657 comm="nm-applet ") interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" member="GetAll" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination="org.freedesktop.NetworkManager" (uid=0 pid=267 comm="/usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon ")

When using sudo nm-applet:
** Message: applet now removed from the notification area

Any idea on what went wrong after the update?
Thank you in advance!
EDIT:
While migrating to systemd, I forgot to replace the ConsoleKit line in /etc/pam.d/slim with:
session required pam_systemd.so

    Mac OSX
After updating Bridge, the application fails to launch. The black dot appears below the Bridge icon in the dock as if it is opening, but then it disappears. The application will not open.

You can try just quitting the app as well, restart rhe iPad and launch it again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
iBooks crashed on me a couple of times when I first updated yesterday so I just quit the app and launched it again and it worked.
or .... If Quitting and resetting/rebooting work, fails, delete the app and download it again. Tap and hold down on the app icon until it wiggles and then tap the X on the icon to delete it. Tap the home button. Then download iBooks again.

  • [Solved] nm-applet panel icon disappeared after update

I know there are tons of topics here on the nm-applet icon in the panel, but I can't seem to find one that helps me.  I am running xfce4 and the NetworkManager icon was showing up perfectly fine in my notification area until I did an update.  The text of the update log is found here:
    http://pastebin.com/G1sSuw1H
I didn't see anything on the update list that I thought would mess with the nm-applet icon.
NetworkManager itself is working fine.  When I login, I get the little pop-up bubble in the top right corner telling me that I am connected with a button to not show again.  But the icon is just gone.  I believe that I have everything installed that is needed because it was working.  All I did was do the update mentioned, reboot, and it's gone.
    Any ideas???

  • [SOLVED] mount.cifs failing to mount after update to 3.8.x

When trying to mount a CIFS share in Arch with kernel 3.8.3-2-ARCH, I get this:
    mount error(22): Invalid argument
    dmesg shows this:
    FS-Cache: Loaded
FS-Cache: Netfs 'cifs' registered for caching
    Key type cifs.spnego registered
    Key type cifs.idmap registered
For clarity, I'm running this command (and have tried many others):
    sudo mount.cifs //desktop/mydata /mnt/mydata -o user=me
Also, I am able to browse this share properly with smbclient, and I'm also able to mount it in distributions using older kernels.
I tested this on Ubuntu 13.04 as well, and the same problem happens there (also has kernel 3.8.x, so it seems likely that this is a kernel issue). From what I understand, portions of the mount.cifs client code were moved into the kernel recently, and the argument parser was overhauled at the same time (I found similar bug reports for Fedora, Gentoo, etc). Any ideas?
    SOLVED:
The fix is to add "sec=ntlm" to the -o flag:
    sudo mount.cifs //desktop/mydata /mnt/mydata -o user=me,sec=ntlm
Last edited by willroberts (2013-03-22 03:32:46)

While the "Permission denied" error seems completely different from an "Invalid argument" error, adding sec=ntlm to my -o flag fixed my issue as well.
For the record, I did search for my error message via Google, and got this:
    https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A … today&tbm=
No results for my "invalid argument" problem, but maybe that thread hasn't been indexed by Google yet. I'll try the built-in search next time. Most sites have notoriously awful built-in search, so I didn't even try.

    Hi jmoser;
Adobe position on PS CS2 is that it is not compatible with Leopard. They say they have no plans to fix it either. According to them the only versions that are compatible with Leopard are CS3 and CS4.
I some people say they don't have any problems using PS CS2 with Leopard but it doesn't appear this is true for everyone.

  • Adobe apps fail to launch after copying via ARD 3

For several years we have beeen updating our Adobe apps by updating our master image and copying (via ARD v.1, then v.2, now v. 3) the applications and the associated Application Support files to the target machines. (300 Macs running Tiger) Since upgrading to version 3 of ARD. Adobe apps fail to launch after they are replaced, even with the old files.
I found a post alluding to a known issue with Acrobat from June. It stated it was a known bug that engineering was aware of. THAT was the only mention I could find. Does anyone know anything more about this? This is critical for our publishing workflow - Adobe has two updates that affect us in critical areas that we need to implement, but are reluctant to visit 300 individual desktops (even remotely) and run individual install patches.
The silent install works great for installation, but does not address updates.
    Anyone?

    - Restore from backup

  • HT1222 iLife apps fail to launch after running latest Software Update

    Hello,
I ran the Software Update (running Snow Leopard on a MBP) on Feb 6 which updated Remote Desktop (never use it) and also had a Security Update 2012-001 v1.1
Used Mail and Safari successfully after that but noticed Opera failing to launch. Thought it was an issue with Opera so didn't pay it much mind.
Tonight (Feb 7) I wanted to off load photos from my phone and discovered that iPhoto wouldn't launch and neither will iTunes. I haven't seen any other discussions related to this, but if there is one, please point me in that direction. Cheers.

    Miriam,
I read the selection in MacFixit and went through the steps that they suggested.
I even downloaded MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10PPC.dmg and when I went to re-install it the program Installer quit unexpectedly in the same manner that Safari, Mail, and Software Update did.
I also noted that when I tried to start either Safari or Mail using the terminal (I don't have much expertise in this area) they stated that there was a segmentation fault
Here is what was on the terminal screen:
Last login: Tue Jul 17 12:28:25 on ttyp1

    wilbur-purdues-imac-g5:~ wilbur$ /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer; exit
    Segmentation fault
    logout

It seems that I can install other programs using Installer, but I cannot do the upgrade. Maybe I have the wrong file.

I have been using ColdFusion on a Mac for years. Now CF fails to start after I updated Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4. I usually start by typing in the terminal window sudo /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin/ColdFusion start.
There is a crash report but I don't know how to read it. See attached.
Please help, I need this working for my job.
    Thanks...Colin

    Dear Craig,
Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB RAM
I'm sure that this is 64-bit
    CF 8.0.1 Enterprise Build 3080
I had moved the Java SE 6 to the top in both Plugin and Applications. The
correct version is showing in the terminal window. See below.
Last login: Thu Jun 18 11:27:09 on ttys001
    Beta-4:~ Colin$ java -version
    java version "1.6.0_13"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_13-b03-211)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.3-b02-83, mixed mode)
    Beta-4:~ Colin$
CF will not start. I have the activity monitor open, and when I start CF you
see it in the activity monitor for a few seconds as it starts up. When the
message process is completed in the terminal window CF disappears in the
    activity monitor.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi, Colin,
My apologies but I forgot to ask 2 questions: (1) What kind of Mac you have
(Intel or PowerPC)? (2) What version of CF are you running and what installer
    did you choose (8 or 8.0.1, 32-bit, 64-bit, etc.)?
    To start, try the following:
    1. Normally you'd shut CF down first ... but that's not necessary for you
    2. Open Java Preferences again
    3. Select Java SE 6 and move it (drag) to the top spot in both section (Applet
    Plugin and Applications)
    4. Open Terminal
    5. Type java -version (you should see 1.6.0_13 as the new version)
    6. Try to start CF again
This may not work (I've had issues with it) but it's technically how it's
supposed to work. With the Java Preferences utility, you're visually setting a
default JVM (you can do it with commands in Terminal but this is much faster
    and easier).
If CF still won't start, look for the jvm.config file in your CF application
    folder (try /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin or
    /Applications/ColdFusion8/runtime/bin -- the latter is where a jvm.config file
is on my machine for a particular version of CF that's installed similar to
yours). You can override the JVM in this file but, hopefully, that won't be
    necessary!
    Best,
    Craig

OT: A simpler way to check if some packages are installed:
    $ pacman -Q intel-dri libgl foobar
    intel-dri 9.0-1
    libgl 9.0-1
error: package 'foobar' was not found

  • Why does iPhoto not launch after update to version 9.3.2?

Double clicking the application icon causes it to bounce 3 or 4 times in the dock and then quits. Trying to open with command + option will not launch for a rebuild. Holding down the option key illicits the same behavior.
How can I downgrade to 9.3.1 or make 9.3.2 work? It was working perfectly before the upgrade.
My other computer (a recent MacBook Pro) shows 9.3.1 version and software update shows it's up to date. It works great.

Still will not launch in new user account.

  • [Solved] 'New' error messages during init after updating initscripts

After updating to the latest initscripts, I got some error messages during init that I hadn't seen before.  They occurred during one of the UDev steps, and were caused by an attempt to load an IDE module despite the controller being disabled.  The controller shows up in Windows devmgr too, so I guess it's a failing of the mobo or BIOS.
In any case, I downgraded and found that the errors were nothing new.  I'm just curious if the appearance of the errors during init was by design or a happy accident.
